I never in a million years thought I would want a guy who smells like a tree and probably hugs them on the daily, but alas, you've somehow snuck your sexy, khaki-covered ass into my life. It doesn't help that we're stuck living in this apartment together for God knows how long, but I can't stop thinking about that kiss. I know I said it was one and done, and maybe that's the smart thing to do since I'm not convinced of your emotional availability. Maybe I'm a masochist. Or, maybe I might kind of like you. I said what I said.
No regrets,
Marcos~
***
Marcos,
Your ability to simultaneously compliment and insult me is probably one of my favorite things about you. I think it's part of your charm. Does that make me a masochist as well? I definitely like to torture myself. The night I kissed you, I knew it had the potential to push you away, but I couldn't stop myself from wanting you. I still can't. You can flirt and bully me all you like. I'm not going anywhere. I've finally found my home, and it's here. And just in case you need me to be more specific, I like you too.
Forever, con amor…
Chance~
Forever, Con Amor is an interconnected, stand alone, slow burn, contemporary, MM opposites attract romance that is heavy on humor, light on angst, and features an age gap, a sexy yoga session, heels, and a few passive aggressive quips about cargo pants, hugging trees, and kale.
A.M. Johnson lives in Utah with her family where she works as a full-time nurse. If she’s not at the hockey rink with her kiddos, you’ll find her buried in a book or behind the keyboard. She loves romance and all things passionate. Amanda enjoys exploring all genres and bringing life to the human experience.
*** I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book***
Forever, Con Amor is the Final entry in the For Him Series, which is a great culmination of all the previous stories. This story focuses on the love story between Marcos and Chance who are complete opposites, but have an immediate connection that begins as a sincere friendship and blossoms into a beautiful romance.
I loved how surprised Marcos was and afraid at the same time of his deepening feelings for Chance. He did not want anything to jeopardize their relationship and due to this fear he had to take a leap of faith.
The slow burn romance was necessary due to all of Marcos protective walls and watching learn and believe in Chance's feelings was so wholesomely sweet. Overall this was the perfect send off for all of these wonderful characters.
I’m sad to realise this was the last book in this series. I loved every single book, and it was such a delight to meet up with previous characters while reading this story. Like visiting old friends.
In the previous books we met Chance, the man who broke Ethan’s heart, and Marcos, Parker’s flamboyant best friend and former roommate, and I believe this book can be best enjoyed after reading the first three in this series. Chance does get his redemption story and I really loved how A.M. Johnson wrote it. Chance is a different man from when he and Ethan broke up. He has travelled and saw the world, but found himself finally ready to settle down. Moving to Atlanta, where he took on a job managing Pride House, and trying to be there for his sister and mother as much as he can. I loved Chance. His patience and devotion to the LGBTQA+ teens staying at the house and how he tried to live his life not just for himself but also for the people he cares about. He never thought he would fall for a guy like Marcos, with his snarky mouth and sharp remarks. Marcos seems like a real piece of work - he’s absolutely one of the funniest characters in this series. But underneath that bitchy behaviour hides someone who’s been hurt a time too many, a man who’s afraid of commitment and scared to put his heart on the line. But this thing that’s developing between him and Chance is good while it lasts, isn’t it? Their unexpected friendship slowly develops into something more, and they both realise there are feelings involved instead of just having a great time in bed. And how terrifying that might be, it’s something worth fighting for. There was no big misunderstanding, just a healthy fear of commitment, because being vulnerable is scary. But Chance and Marcos communicated and I really loved how they took things slowly, taking their time to connect and to really get to know each other.
I also liked how things finally were solved between Ethan and Chance, how they cleared the air, which allowed them to be friends again, even with Anders watching sceptically from the sidelines.
I would highly like to recommend this series. Amanda Johnson has a way with writing lovely, multi layered and interesting characters. Her writing is extraordinary, poetic and the way she tells her story’s is guaranteed to pull you in from the first page. It’s clear she’s very compassionate about standing up for vulnerable LGBTQA+ youth, which shows in the way she writes about Pride House and its young inhabitants.
Since this series has come to an end, I really look forward to see what she comes up with next. No matter what, I will read it, because she’s one of those authors in this mm romance genre who can do no wrong.
I kindly received an arc from the author and this is my honest, unbiased review
Sooo good, sooo sweet 🥰 💕 I'm gonna miss all of them...
**** 4,25/5
J'adore la série "For Him" de A.M.
A.M. Johnson ne laisse pas la porte fermée à tout son univers, et il me tarde de découvrir la série "Bookish Boys", spin-off de "For Him" dont nous avons eu l'introduction dans le court roman "To Whom It May Concern".
!Delicioso! This was just so gooood. A.M., per usual, has crafted yet another beautifully written story. Forever, Con Amor gives you a little bit of everything - opposites attract, age-gap, close proximity, slow burn, with humor, sex, snark, and feelings to boot.
This story follows 35 yr. old Chance (Ethan from Not So Sincerely Yours ex-boyfriend) who after being a long time wanderer has now laid down roots as the director of Pride House. He is kind, unassuming, and a lover of outdoors and cargo shorts. Chance meets 24 yr. old Marcos (Parker’s bff from Dear Mr. Brody) through Pride House and the two have a tenuous relationship. Marcos is loud, boisterous, and unapologetic. He shields himself through his bravado, opinions, outward fashionable appearance, and endless criticisms. He mercilessly picks at Chance, while Chance remains mostly amused and curious as to why he’s the target. I’m not going to lie, I could NOT stand Marcos in the previous book. I found him to be mean and judgmental, and when I initially heard he was getting a book I was instantly sure it was going to be a hard pass 🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️ BUT I’m me and curiosity once again got my ass, and I’ve never been happier. I loved Marcos in this story. We still get the same person we met in book #3, but with his added POV we see the layers peel back to who this man really is.
I loved Chance and Marcos together. The build up of their friendship into more felt well paced. The UST had me on edge dying for them to get together. The openness and vulnerability Marcos exhibits throughout pulled at the heartstrings. The intimacy between them had my cold, dead heart grow 3 times. I laughed, I hurt, I did some of this —> 🥹, I all around had a great time.
A fantastic conclusion to a wonderfully entertaining series. A.M. my girl, I can’t wait to pick up your next one ❤️
I was lucky enough to receive an arc of Forever, Con Amor from the amazing Amanda Johnson!
So, the whole “For Him” gang is here and can I tell you how incredibly happy I am?! And they even had burgers from Sal’s, and anyone that lives in this world, knows Sal’s has the best burgers! 😜
The chemistry between these 2 is dynamite!! 💥💥💥
Marcos is hilarious, one of my favorite characters, he is a true BLAST to read! He’s wrapped in DRAMATIC sarcasm but underneath it all, he is a beautiful “out and very proud” soul, and his funny factor is OFF THE CHARTS!
“That’s okay, I’d rather you not speak anyway, it ruins the whole lumberjack fantasy I have going on in my head right now.”
“I never in a million years thought I would want a guy who smells like a tree and probably hugs them on the daily, but alas, you’ve somehow snuck your sexy, khaki-covered ass into my life.”
Chance, our beautiful save the world, hippy, “tree hugger.” I just want to hug him for all his goodness. It’s hard not to fall in love with this beautiful ZEN being.
I laughed so hard at this next comment…once you get to know Marcos and Chance, you’ll do the same.
This is Chance below!⬇️
“I almost spit my beer all over the fucking counter. He (Marcos) had on the smallest pair of sleep shorts I’d ever seen in my entire life.”
And that letter Chance wrote to Anders (from book #2!) I nearly died waiting on the outcome of everything! So bueno! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
“I’m having a very ‘It’s a small world after all’ moment,” Marcos said.
Some tough but brief stuff toward the end with “Pride House,” a shelter for LGTBQ youth, and the mc’s place of work. These issues must be addressed and as always, Amanda does it with perfection.🌈
This book is a sexy, romantic, very funny slow burn read, with my favorite things….age gap, forced proximity & total opposites!
All the books are seamlessly interconnected as Amanda is a gifted author with beautiful word flow. Forever, Con Amor can be read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend the entire series! Trust me, you’ll be so happy you did!! I am so completely lost in this world. I never want to leave it, haha. One (or 5) more, please. 😊
The last book in the series and what a fantastic end! I love Marcos and his sassy mouth and strong presence. Chance redeemed himself (from book 2 as Ethan's ex) into a person worthy of his second shot at love. He and Marcos fit each other like a glove, their chemistry so undeniable. This book was like coming home and it made me feel all light and sweet. Another great read from AM Johnson!💕
Unfortunately, this did nothing for me. While I could see on the objective side that Marcos is snarky in a cute way and Chance just a loveable mountain of epic proportions, I simply wasn’t captivated– neither with the characters, nor the plot. My heart didn’t skip, my pulse didn’t race, however hard I tried. It was, I have to admit, mainly a case of soldiering on. By 80% I kind of gave up and started skimming.
Bottom line: Too many platitudes. Too many characters, names and relationships which felt overwhelming as I hadn’t read the previous books. Too full of ‘motivational’ comments (you can do it, you are so talented, etc etc) to the point of cheesy overload
Nope. Not for me. And that is possibly down to my current mood rather than the book. Sorry book. I might have liked you better another time.
3.5 - 3.75⭐ and most definitely rounding it down. I expected much more for Marcos and Chance's book.
I've already met Chance in previous installments and I loved the idea of a big, burly guy travelling the world and coming back to Atlanta to fuck Ethan by the sink with his dirty pants on; I also loved Marcos in the previous installment, but his character completely lost its edge here.
🟡 Ethan's ex boyfriend/Parker's best friend 🟢 Both gay 🔵 Age gap 24/36 🟣 Forced proximity (could've been hotter) 🌶️ More sex in the second half of the book; 2 penetrative scenes on page; rimming, mostly kissing, oral and frotting; sex is good, Chance is fantastic; t/b
Chance was amazing. A big guy with a golden heart, a serial monogamist who's finally ready to settle down in one place at 36 years old. He's a philanthropist, he's overseeing LGBT shelters for kids, has a husky and is overall a hot chunk of meat.
“You like him. He’s got the whole quiet, introverted, more than meets the eye, big lumberjack vibe. It’s hot. I get it.” “Lumberjack? You mean tree-hugging hippy vibe.” “I don’t think hippies have muscles like that, Basulto.”
Marcos was pretty flamboyant in the previous installment, he intrigued me, but I couldn't find his vivaciousness here. He was quite subdued most of the time compared to that and even though this story begged for a very raunchy, spicy, passionate fairytale, that didn't happen.
They become roommates because Marcos becomes homeless in a way and that should've been much better than it turned out to be. Became boring soon enough. It felt like the author was holding back both characters all the time. When they finally hooked up, they spent a month just cuddling and having blowjobs, while they both wanted to have sex, so it was kind of unrealistic that they didn't. Both alone in one apartment, wanted to fuck each other's brains out and then waited because ... Why? I'm really not sure why. Made no sense.
Marcos was a very talented designer, so for him to get "a boutique" for undeserved communities was a bit of a blow. Yeah, so sue me, it's what I think. This guy was set to make it big and he should've, but the story was about Chance helping and then consequently apparently Marcos helping too. It didn't fit him. Marcos should've gotten a high-end boutique.
I don't know, I really didn't see it. I wanted more for Marcos. And the part where all the famous designers came to his boutique? Come on. Never happened. Completely not believable.
The side characters were again crucial to the story, without them this wouldn't be as readable. Ethan and Anders are still the best couple in the series. With Parker and Van right behind them. Then it's Wild and Jax. At the very end it's these two. Even though I simply adored Chance.
I liked the pairing here, but they didn't get a good (enough) story.
Overall, a great fourth installment in this series.
It was at times a little slow, and Marcos took some time for me to warm up to. He is Parker's BFF, the MC from the third book. Mostly just because he was pretty mean and judgy of Chance for no reason and I honestly wouldn't have found him endearing at all the way Chance does.
But we spend enough time with Marcos and learn more about him to see just why he acts mean a lot of time. How it's his defense mechanism, his wall to keep people out. And the most he let down his walls with Chance, the more believable it was for me that Chance was falling for him. It was shaky at first, because I just wouldn't be falling for someone who makes fun of me all the time and insults me.
But Marcos calmed down as the book went on, and starts to show his vulnerable side to Chance, his real self, and I started to fall for Marcos' character instead.
Marcos is a man who has been through a lot of horrible shit, and come out the other side with defense mechanisms to survive it.
Chance is Ethan's ex, who wouldn't give up trekking across the globe to help others for him. As noble as that is, Ethan deserved his own life too, he deserved more than someone half in and half out of the relationship.
But Chance, after he came back from that year in Africa, is finally ready to stop moving, to settle down into one place.
He accepts a job as the director at Pride House, a safe place for queer kids to come to when they've been kicked out of their homes by the hateful homophobes that are supposed to be their family who are supposed to love them.
Marcos sometimes volunteers at Pride House, alongside Parker who has a job there now. That's how the two meet.
And after there's a fire in the apartment building where they live, and a lot of the apartment and their stuff gets destroyed, Parker of course moves in with Van, his boyfriend, who was already wanting him to move in, but Marcos doesn't want to impose. He wants to be independent.
When Chance offers to let him move in with him, Marcos takes him up on his offer, and they become roommates, and really start to fall for each other then.
I enjoyed these two together, and they were so sweet together. It was definitely nice to see after Marcos' initial prickly-ness
I also appreciated the lack of manufactured drama. It felt natural when potential dramatic things came up, but it was never the end of the world when they did. Like, for example, Chance hadn't seen Ethan since he got back from Africa, hadn't contact him or anything.
When he e-mails Anders - who he doesn't know is now married to Ethan - to thank him because he's a donor to Pride House, and to apologize for the time he walked in on him and Ethan fucking in his bathroom so long ago now, Ethan is made aware that he's back, and comes to Pride House to see and talk to him
Marcos is there, and he does get ideas, but it isn't played out in an overdramatic way. He pulls away, but it isn't very long - like the next day - before he and Chance really talk and he gives back into their blossoming romance. It isn't like a trail of miscommunication and drama is laid in it's wake. I appreciated that.
Dramatic things happen, but it's never over dramatic. And I loved how these two never have that manufactured fight near the end that a lot of romance books have have, or a break-up too that some books have, just to get them back together within the next like 10% or so of the book. None of that ridiculousness here. So definite points for that.
Overall, this was a strong (last?) installment in this series, and I adored it. Definitely recommend if you want to see Marcos, Parker's BFF and Chance, Ethan's ex, get their HEA.
Overall: 5/5 Spice level: 3/5 Tropes: age gap, opposites attract, found family, forced proximity, roommates to lovers
TW: homophobia, bigotry
I absolutely loved Marcos and Chance together! A perfect example of opposites attract.
I loved Marcos's portrayal. He wasn't afraid of his femininity and being himself. He was only afraid to love. And Chance brought that out of him. Also, he's hilarious and has a huge heart!
Chance was sweet and immediately accommodating when Marcos was displaced from his home. The forced proximity made both characters confront their feelings and their attraction.
Found family was a major theme, which is pretty common among LGBTQ literature. It mirrors real life in that many youths and even adults are pushed away by their families for just loving and being who they want. They form communities among each other for support. In this series there's Pride House, a shelter of sorts for displaced youths. Chance is a director and Marco's is a volunteer, both great with the residents.
They had so much chemistry and the way they allowed space for each other emotionally was really beautiful. I do wish we would've gotten more about their pasts, but overall I really loved this story. And it's always great to see the other people from the series.
A. M. Johnson writes stories that are full of heart, heat, and a touch of angst. She writes representation with sensitivity and care and weaves beautiful connections.
Marcos Basulto, 24, Parker's best friend has been on his own since his parents did not deem him worthy because he is gay. But Marcos has managed to turn into a fabulous fashion designer. Marcos has flair, he is flamboyant, but underneath all his snarky awesomeness he hides an amazing person, with a big heart. arcos was strong and beautiful, and though he’d never admit it, tender hearted. He cared deeply about the people in his life, about being present.
Parker and Marcos volunteer at Pride House, the youth shelter for kids who have been disowned.
Chance Davenport, 35, new director at Pride House, and the one who left Ethan after a relationship of two years. Chance is still shook up over the breakup with Ethan and he knows it was all his doing. He is now ready to stay in one place, starting with Pride House. Quickly, the young vibrant fashion designer is under his skin and when tragedy strikes and Marcos is in need of a place to stay, Chance offers his guest room. But being in close quarters things heat up, and they both need to come to terms with their intense attraction.
The last book in the series, is again a great read. Chance's down-to-earth attitude was the perfect fit to Marcos's flamboyant ways. It was great having the couples from the other books in series join in too. The long overdue conversation with Ethan was good for both of them, but it was the conversation between Chance and Anders that was the ice-breaker. Great end to a great series!
Part of the For Him Series, that is best enjoyed when read in order:
I can honestly say that this book is probably my favorite of the series, even more so than the first. I appreciated that a.) there is a femme character that’s just femme without it being a stereotype or the other MC being macho and problematic about it. B.) the MC’s act like mature adults (Marcos has a little bit of childishness in the beginning but it’s not drawn out) and actually communicate with each other. It’s possible to have an interesting plot without unnecessary relationship drama. C.) I tend to not like the kind of Big Conflicts last minute like this one had, but in this case it fit with the story and the progression of the end of it’s telling. D.) it was sweet, and still sexy, and uncomplicated.
Who knew Chance would be such an endearing character after our previous intro to him? I simply adored him, and I loved how different he was from Marcos, but that they ended up complimenting each other so well. I really enjoyed reading their story.
I won’t lie, when the book started I figured I was in for a heavy one. But it surprised my by being pretty light hearted. I mostly listened to this, with bouts of reading here and there. Greg Salinas and Kirk Graves were a perfect pair, and I was surprised that they paired their narrations together when there were text conversations, regardless of who was narrating that chapter. That never happens in dual narration so it was a fun change.
While this series has been hot and cold for me, this one was out of the park.
I have to say that I was so happy with Marcos’ story! I was curious how Chance would be portrayed, given his history with Ethan, but he was such a wonderful man! I truly loved the connection between Marco and Chance!
Before we dive in, I do highly recommend you read the other books in this series so you can really understand the dynamic between all of the characters and interwoven storylines.
Marcos was so clearly affected by his past that he didn’t believe he was worthy of goodness. He used sarcasm as his defense mechanism. And while it was funny, often times I could tell he was hurting. Unlike his typical type, Chance was someone Marcos couldn’t anticipate. Marcos fought the attraction but Chance wasn’t going to let him go that easily.
Chance was such a kind, understanding and giving man. He had dedicated his life to serving others but wanted to plant roots. Even though Marcos teased him all the time, he knew it was covering up something. Marcos wasn’t his type either but they were drawn to each other in ways neither could ignore.
The heat between these two was amazing and actually quite romantic. Chance basically courted Marcos and it was the sweetest!! They took the time to learn each other and build a relationship. It wasn’t always easy and times were messy at points but these two gave each other what they longed for - a home.
I’m having a hard time writing a review for this one because i’m not sure how I can put words on what I experienced while I was reading the book. I signed up to read a sweet romance book and what I ended up reading was a masterclass on how to write a romance novel thats so full of feelings and emotions that it makes your readers hearts shatter but swoon at the same time.
I just really adored this book and it was such an experience to read but one i’m really glad I had.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Anders and Ethan's book was all kinds of awesome but I'm afraid the rest of the series didn't do much for me.
This started off really great but all of a sudden (and pretty early on) any kind of conflict disappeared. After that there wasn't much to hold my interest.
In the ultimate opposites attract, Forever, Con Amor shines so bright. Marcos and Chance’s romance is smart, witty, sexy as hell, and ultimately thoughtful.
Marcos might be my favorite character from this series, I was worried I wasn’t going to like Chance from his previous history with Ethan but I am here to report this couple was meant to be. I rarely like opposites attract tropes, but here I am, very sad that this is over. Marcos wit and sass had me LOLing, Chance speaking in Spanish had me swooning!! Muy sexy y muy caliente! 🔥 I would have loved to learn more about Marcos and Chance but overall this was very easy, light on angst, no drama and I’m in need of just uncomplicated stories with HEAs The glimpses we see of the rest of the friend group are always so enjoyable. I really wish there were more of these
Possibly my favourite in this series.... I also LOVE the cover for this book so much.
The snark and sass was soooo good between Chance and Marcos - I loved the cargo shorts hate but I didn't agree, because pockets are such an impressive thing in a piece of clothing when you're a woman and the only pockets you get are fucking tiny (or worse, fake!!) and fit fuck all in them! I would live in cargo trousers if I could 😂😂😂 I'm getting off track but if any pyjama designers are reading this - women want pockets too!!!!!
Anyway, I really liked how Chance encouraged Marcos at every step, how he made sure he had what he needed... loved it. The tension with the Ethan and Anders situation was so good - I've been waiting for Chance to pop back up again for ages so I was happy when they finally came face to face and got that closure they needed.
All in all, this was just a really cute way to end the series, and I really hope the spin-offs will be coming because I want to know what happens to Shi and Gary, and I want to see more of Syrus and Clay.
This was perfect. This book had the best opposites attract, slow burn. Marcos is the best. It did feel like It was a bit slow at times. I loved all the drama and the side characters.
I absolutely loved Forever, Con Amor. It's my second favorite in the series, almost tied for the first spot with Not So Sincerely, Yours. While you can get away with reading it as a standalone, I really suggest reading the series in order for maximum enjoyment. Trust me, you'll be missing out otherwise.
Marcos is Parker's (from Dear Mr. Brody) roommate and BFF, he's snarky and unapologetically himself, but has a tender heart beneath the prickly exterior. And Chance is Ethan's (from Not So Sincerely, Yours) ex, he's a tree-hugging, yoga-lover, who wants to save the world, but is finally ready to settle down in one place. They were complete opposites who in theory shouldn't work, but totally did. I loved that this was a bit of a slow burn, that Chance had the patience to get Marcos to open up to him and share his past with him. They were perfect for one another, and damn, if they weren't hot, hot, HOT together!
I loved that Chance and Ethan had their moment of closure, and that Chance and Anders cleared the air between them as well. I adored Parker and Marcos's friendship, too. And their interactions with the kids and Chance's dog.
This was a low-angst, slow-burn, steamy, romantic, and overall, amazing read. Ms. Johnson's writing and the fantastic characters in the For Him universe are ones that I'll keep in my heart forever. I'm already looking forward to the spin-off series! Highly recommendable!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
Forever, Con Amor has easily become my favorite of this series. And I definitely adored Marcos, with his snark and his undoubtedly self confident toward the boss, Chance, who happened to be Ethan's ex (Not So Sincerely, Yours). I used to hate Chance for Ethan's sake, but yeah, knowing his reasons and his future with Marcos, I was kinda forgave him and loved him. I needed A.M. Johnson to write stories like this more, it's kinda addictive to read about snarky confident MCs. Forever, Con Amor is a beautiful heartwarming story that will stay with me for a long time. And definitely moved to my re-reading list. Well done!
