Band 1 damals konnte mich offensichtlich mehr überzeugen...
Die Reihe lässt sich auf jeden Fall schnell und flüssig lesen, ich mag den Schreibstil und bin auch Fan der kurzen Kapitel sowie der verschiedenen POVs. Die haben mich hier allerdings ehrlich gesagt manchmal fast etwas überfordert, da die Wechsel sehr abrupt waren z.T.
Dadurch wurde von Ethan Cross auch irgendwie vollkommen versäumt das Potenzial der Geschichte auszuschöpfen, da es größtenteils in meinen Augen sehr oberflächlich bleibt. Vor allem bezogen auf die Beziehungen der Charaktere untereinander hätte man hier mehr rausholen können, da auch irgendwie jeder eine auf seine Art schwere Vergangenheit zu bewältigen hat...
Das größte Manko für mich war allerdings, dass das Buch zu viel wollte. Es war einfach so typisch amerikanisch für mich 🙈🤷🏼♀️😅
Man hat nun nicht bloß Marcus und Ackermann (wie noch in Band 1), sondern auch noch einen Fall um einen ziemlich kranken Serienmörder.
Alles in allem hat die Reihe für mich durchaus Potenzial, vor allem was die weitere Entwicklung der Beziehung zwischen Marcus und Ackermann angeht, dennoch konnte mich dieser Teil nur wenig von sich überzeugen.

Since I’ve loved the first book in this series, I just had to read the second one as well.
I really liked the plot of this book and the plot twist at the end was just bloody amazing!
I just love Ethan Cross’ writing style. This man definitely knows what he’s doing. It never gets boring because the chapters are written from different character’s perspectives. The chapters I enjoyed the most were probably Francis Ackerman Jr.’s. He’s just a great character and I can’t wait to pick up the next book in this series.
It was definitely a good book and I enjoyed reading it but it wasn’t as good as the first book.

Ich mag es wirklich! Aber ich finde es unheimlich schade, dass es so wenig in die Tiefe geht. Soviele dramatische Vergangenheiten werden angeschnitten, aber man erfährt so gut wie nichts. Die Charaktere bleiben farblos und oberflächlich, obwohl soviel Potenzial da ist. Allein die Freundschaft zwischen Marcus und Andrew gibt soviel mehr her.
Nach dem ersten Teil hatte ich noch Hoffnung, dass man etwas mehr erfährt, leider passierte das nicht.
Spannend ist es aber allemal.

"Ich bin die Angst" ist der 2. Band der "Shepherd Organization" Reihe von Ethan Cross. Im Grunde handelt es sich um einen soliden Thriller. Leider hat mich dieser Band aber nicht so mitgerissen, wie das beim ersten Teil noch der Fall war.
Es gibt kaum Überraschungsmomente, alles ist ziemlich vorhersehbar. Zudem ist die Geschichte teilweise auch ein wenig an den Haaren herbeigezogen. Alleine das diese Organisation überhaupt existiert ist ja schon ein wenig unglaubwürdig. Dazu kommt noch, dass z.B. ein Charakter aus 4 Metern Höhe auf Beton kracht und so gut wie unverletzt weiterzieht. ...
Schlecht ist das Buch aber jetzt auch nicht unbedingt. Der Schreibstil gefällt mir eigentlich sehr gut. Von mir gibt es daher knappe 3 Sterne. Ich hoffe, dass der nächste Teil wieder etwas besser wird.

Ich liebe diese Reihe und ein Reread war längst mal überfällig. Toll geschrieben, die Mischung an Charakteren ist wahnsinnig gut und der Schreibstil, in Verbindung mit den kurzen Kapiteln, sorgt dafür, dass man nur so durch das Buch fliegt! Thriller-Fans, die die Reihe noch nicht kennen, sollten hier mal reinschnuppern. Es lohnt sich.

Band 2 hat mir sogar fast noch ein bisschen besser gefallen, als "Ich bin die Nacht" 🤔.
Nachdem die Charaktere im ersten Band eingeführt wurden, kann es in diesem Buch richtig losgehen.
Mehr möchte ich gar nicht sagen, weil vermutlich alles ein Spoiler für Band 1 wäre 🙈😅.
Trotzdem hatte "Ich bin die Angst" einige Längen und es wurde erst zum Ende hin richtig spannend 🤔.

I did not know that this book was part of a series when I requested it. The characters are an interesting mix of good and bad. In this book we get two different types of killer. There is some graphic violence detailed in the storyline. Marcus Willaims sole aim is to take down these killers any way he can. I quite liked the authors writing style. It's action packed but I was a little at the beginning.

Σαφώς καλύτερος από τον Ποιμένα σε επίπεδο γραφής και πλοκής,ο Προφήτης είναι πιο καλοδουλεμένος και πιο ώριμος.Παρόλα αυτά μου έλειψε μια πιο στιβαρή προσέγγιση στο υπόβαθρο του Προφήτη,που υποτίθεται ότι τον καθοδηγούσαν δυνάμεις του Σκότους.Υπήρχε μια αφέλεια σεναριακού τύπου,μιας και η τοποθέτηση ήταν:έκανε φριχτά εγκλήματα,δήλωνε σατανιστής,πάρτε την πληροφορία και πορευτείτε κατά βούληση!Το διάβασα πολύ ευχάριστα,αλλά μέχρι εκεί.3⭐

My opinion: I was kind of shocked by this novel. Most serial killer novels are more graphic than this novel was and I felt this novel had more of a psychological component to it. Although I missed the graphic aspects the crimes, I must admit that this novel was refreshing. It was much more of a "thinker" and "solver" book than what I was prepared for. I was also impressed by the writing, as well, as the author laid out the mystery superbly. I will definitely seek out more from this author.
I must admit that I had the same enthusiasm as I had for the early James Patterson ALEX CROSS novels. It has been a very long time since I have had that type of excitement for a novel or that I would even compare two novelists.
Note: This is a second book in the series. I didn't read the first book prior to reading this one, but I would recommend that readers read the first book, The Shepherd, prior to reading this one. My belief is that it probably gives an introduction as to The Shepherd Organization and the relationship between the two main characters, Frances Ackerman, Jr and Marcus Williams, in the first novel, which I believe would have bumped this up to 5 stars for me.

Second book in the series and a worthy successor. The story is similar to the first one in regard to its cruelty and excitement. If you happen to dislike those aspects in the first installment, I am pretty sure this series is just not your cup of tea. But I guess those people stopped reading after book 1.
The quest to find out more about the Anarchist and the Prophet was interesting (to say at least) and the ending surprised me. I am looking forward to book 3 - but I learned that there is a book 0.5 which I’ll read first. Hope it’s as good as the rest.

BAM! WHAM! KAPOW! Ethan Cross has thrown a knockout punch with The Prophet. I stayed up late in the night to finish this one and then had nightmares. Wow!!
Riveting, thrilling, gritty, gripping, enthralling, chilling, edgy, okay you get the idea. Cross's books tend to make me get a little carried away. The detail of the descriptions will make you shiver and shake. Cross is a very compelling writer. He PULLS you right into the drama and the mind of a serial killer. Scary!! and not for the squeamish! The way the characters connect is spellbinding on many levels.
Special Agent Marcus Williams worked for a covert agency overseen by the Department of Justice, The Shepherd. Agents don't come to the group through normal channels. Each is fighting their own demons and is specially selected to become part of the group. Williams story continues to build slowly and soon you will be on the edge of your seat and the tempo reaches breakneck speed.
In a previous review for the The Shepherd I told James Patterson he had competition. This story surpasses Patterson. Ethan Cross is the new author to watch in thrilling suspense fiction! If you haven't read The Shepherd I recommend reading that first. I also wish I would have read the novella The Cage before reading this as I am a stickler for reading series in order. But the author has brought forth the necessary facts to allow this to be read as a stand alone.
Ethan, give me a little tine to recover and I will be ready for your next installment. The rest of you need to get reading!!!

Disclaimer: I suggest reading The Shepard, Cross' debut novel featuring Marcus Williams, the Shepard. I won't go into detail or spoil any surprises for The Shepard, but I gaurantee the reader will appreciate this book more after having read it. There is background to the organization that the reader may want to get a handle on because it doesn't expound in any way really in this second book. So go get it! And then read the review...
My initial thoughts on this book is that I am so happy it started where it left off from the last book. The time span is only about a year and Marcus has been working with The Shepard Organization for that whole time. His life has gone is a dramtically different way than is expected from The Shepard novel. The reader gets to take this journey with Marcus and see how he evolves for better or worse. He is constantly hankered down with his internal struggle with good and evil. He is as much psychologically scarred as the deranged serial killers he chases for a living.
I have seen many reviews that compare Ethan Cross to James Patterson, but I honestly have only read one book by Mr. Patterson so I can't make that comparison. It's not that I haven't heard great things, it's because I can't scan books into my brain and must read my books one day at a time. Sorry, I digress. I will say that I think that Ethan Cross is a great addition to the psychological suspense, thriller genre that I love so much. He keeps the chapters short and to the point, pacing is fantastic, and the deranged madmen in his books are pretty interesting by themselves.
The constant struggle with right and wrong, good and bad, light and dark, nature vs. nurture is always a good storyline because everyone on a daily basis deals with these things. Of course we're not teetering the line between ridding the world of killers who set their captives aflame while they are still alive or becoming one ourselves. But we are always interested in good triumphing over bad. The journey of the hero is always just as captivating. I look forward to the next book in this series I have thoroughly enjoyed it

Leider nicht so gut wir Band 1. Es sind einige Ungereimtheiten vorhanden. Nichts desto trotz lässt es sich super lesen und man ist gespannt wie es weiter geht.

"Ich bin die Nacht" konnte mich als Auftaktband leider nicht so ganz überzeugen, aber ich hatte große Hoffnungen, dass sich die Reihe sich weiter steigern wird. Nun habe ich "Ich bin die Angst" gelesen und bin eigentlich an der gleich Stelle wie nach dem ersten Buch.
Die Reihe hat Potential und ist auch durchaus unterhaltsam zu lesen, aber so richtig mitreißen kann sie mich leider nicht. Wie auch im ersten Teil will das Buch für meinen Geschmack einfach zu viel. Da ist zum einen die Geschichte um Ackermann, die meiner Meinung unnötig in die Länge gezogen wird und zum anderen die aktuellen Fälle. Diese sind durchaus spannend und interessant, aber können mich leider nicht komplett überzeugen.
Vieles an der Geschichte ist mir zu aufgebauscht, zu übertrieben und einfach zu viel des Guten. Durch den flüssigen Schreibstil lässt sich das Buch dennoch gut lesen, aber weniger Seiten hätten dem Buch nicht geschadet.

Aber es gab auch ein paar Szenen die für mich nicht ganz nachvollziehbar waren - zum Beispiel der Angriff von Ackerman auf Marcus und sein Team - aber vielleicht gibt es dazu in einem späteren Teil noch eine Erklärung
Leider hat mich auch Maggie und ihr extrem unprofessionelles Verhalten zunehmend genervt …
Auf jeden Fall hat der Thriller alles was ich mag - brutale Morde - überraschende Wendungen - interessante Ermittler - Einblick in die Denkweise und (zumindest teilweise) in die Motive des Täters
Deshalb gibt’s von mir auch eine klare Leseempfehlung und ich freue mich schon auf die weiteren Teile vor allem da das Buch auch mit einem ziemlichen Cliffhänger endet

Auf jeden Fall hat der Thriller alles was ich mag - brutale Morde - überraschende Wendungen - interessante Ermittler - Einblick in die Denkweise und (zumindest teilweise) in die Motive des Täters
Deshalb gibt’s von mir auch eine klare Leseempfehlung und ich freue mich schon auf die weiteren Teile vor allem da das Buch auch mit einem ziemlichen Cliffhänger endet

This was another quick, thrilling read. Jumping in right after finishing book one, the time gap threw me off for a second, but I was quickly ’rewarded’ with a new case and yet another psychopath with a seriously disturbing trauma. I loved checking in with most of the familiar cast, but I’m definitely craving a deeper dive into characters beyond Marcus and Frank. Still, the plot kept me hooked, and I really enjoy the overarching Ackerman storyline running through the series.

Die erste Hälfte des Buches war sehr zäh, dann wurde es aber sehr spannend. Ich hoffe, dass im nächsten Teil noch eine kritische Ebene dazu kommt, denn ich werde auf jeden Fall weiter lesen.

My Thoughts and Opinion:
WOW! Chilling and fast paced!! A couple of caveats. This is the 2nd in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. The author did an amazing job of inserting information from the previous novel, The Shepherd, where needed with no interruption of the story. This author is now on my "authors to read" list, this book was that good!! I would also like to give credit to the publisher, The Story Plant. For the past three (3) years, I have been reading and reviewing books from The Story Plant's catalogue and have put every author under this imprint, on the same list.
The book, The Prophet, pulls you in within the first few pages. The reader gets introduced to the cast of characters, all believable but unsure of how they are connected. This story has so many twists and turns that the pages just kept turning. The settings vivid. The author's writing style is extraordinary at how he weaves and interweaves the plot and characters together. The story tense and intense.
A white knuckle read!! About 3/4 into the book, the author ramps up the suspense to warp speed pulling everything together. I found myself wishing I could read faster to keep up with the heart pounding thrill ride. I could not put this book down until I read the very last word. The ending, a huge cliff hanger, which I hope means there will be a subsequent novel. I highly recommend this book to everyone that enjoys a thrilling, accelerating plot with a surprising intricate puzzle to try and piece together, you will not be disappointed. An electrifying read!!!!

Ich bin grad so geflasht, ich kann gar nicht anders, als 5 Sterne zu geben! Höchstens ein halber Stern Abzug, weil ich doch minimale Kritiken habe. Aber das ist Meckern auf hohem Niveau.
Ich wusste nicht mehr sooooo viel vom ersten Teil, genug zwar, um mich nicht verunsichert zu fühlen, aber es war nicht mehr alles präsent. Dennoch viel mir der Einstieg in Teil 2 unglaublich leicht, der Autor hat ein wunderbares Gespür dafür, den Leser abzuholen.
Aber er hat noch für viel mehr ein Gespür. Mehrere sogar. Ethan Cross schafft es wunderbar, seinen Leser mitleiden zu lassen. Es ist faszinierend: man weiß, der Killer sucht sein nächstes Opfer. Es kommt die Beschreibung zu einem bisher nicht da gewesenen Menschen. Man weiß sofort, dass dieser Mensch das nächste Opfer ist und trotzdem schafft der Autor es, innerhalb weniger Sätze diesen Menschen zu lieben und sich wehren zu wollen gegen das Schicksal.
Außerdem schafft er es schon wieder, dass man Mitleid mit dem Killer bekommt. Wie nur? Man hasst ihn von Anfang an und dann kommen nach und nach Details ans Licht und die sind so fein gestrickt, dass man irgendwann gegen seinen Willen für ihn ist. Dass er sich daraus befreien kann. Etwas, was ich an den Büchern definitiv liebe!
Kleine Abzüge könnte ich höchstens an Vasquez leicht unrealistischer Entwicklung, sowie an einem übertriebenen Kampf vor dem Finale, welches etwas kurz war, festmachen. Aber dafür war das Gesamtwerk zu gut und dieses Ende!

'Wir alle sind Sünder und Heilige, nur in unterschiedlichem Ausmaß.'
Während der Killer im ersten Band keine ersichtlichen Gründe und Vorlieben für die Auswahl seiner Opfer hatte, ist dieser hier sehr spezifisch. Mit dem Mord erwartet er sich eine vollständige Seele zu erkaufen. Dabei geht er zwar einerseits grausam, aber immerhin schnell vor. Sekten und die Frage nach dem Glauben spielen hierbei eine große Rolle.
Auch Ackerman treibt wieder sein Unwesen und ist nicht weniger grausam geworden (spannend, wenn man für mich unbekannte Folterinstrumente der spanischen Inquisition entdeckt). Er ist zu Marcus' Schatten mutiert, während Marcus gerade diese Tatsache schwer zu schaffen macht. Man merkt wie ihm die Situation auf die Psyche geht und wie schwer es ihm fällt klar bei Verstand zu bleiben.
Marcus als Hauptcharaktere finde ich top, gerade weil er solche Probleme hat. Er hinterfragt viel und gerade die Überlegung was ihn von den Killern unterscheidet, macht ihm zu schaffen. Richtung Ende wird das ganze sogar noch schlimmer da ein paar Geheimnisse aufgedeckt werden, die komplett drohen, Marcus aus der Bahn zu werfen. Bin seht gespannt wie es mit dem Gespann aus Agent und Serienkiller weiter geht.

Man ließt das Buch aus sehr vielen Perspektiven, unter anderem aus der Sicht des Mörders und es gibt dementsprechend nicht viele überraschende Twists. Für die Überraschungen hat der Autor Ackerman, der sehr zu meiner Unterhaltung beigetragen hat. Ich mag den schwarzen Humor von ihm sehr. Marcus ging mir stellenweise sehr oft auf den Keks und das Drum herum mit Maggie genauso.
Der eigentliche Fall war aber sehr spannend, wobei ich oft dachte "Junge Junge, ganz schön viele gestörte Personen auf einem Haufen", aber so wurde es nie langweilig. Das Buch ist sehr rasant und hat mich von Anfang bis Ende gefesselt. Die große Enthüllung am Schluss war für mich nichts Neues. Die zweite große Enthüllung wiederrum schon und lässt einen nicht um den 3. Band herum kommen.
