A lot of texts concerning the second coming tend to have a preachy approach as if chiding society while laying out the prophecies of the second coming. Some books have an arrogance to them as though the author is bragging about how much he has read the scriptures and how much more about the subject he know than the reader.
This one doesn't do either. Richard Skousen, in fact, seems to avoid any kind of preachy arrogance by letting the prophets of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the early days of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do all of the talking. In this text, Skousen has a multitude of block quotes allowing Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball and others make all of the major points. Skousen simply "connects the dots."
