Quite slow on the start, this is the kind of book that will leave a small scratch in your heart. Mu Su Li truly is a great writer. She knows how to hook people in and leave them wanting more. We are still at the start of the story and have not gotten to even the romance, but you can feel the build-up for it.

With the book being adapted into a TV show, I wanted to give it another try as I remember having fond memories of it and boy I was not disappointed. Although it took me over a week to get into the very first chapters, now I am hooked and literally blew through the first book. One thing I still wish is for someone to pick up this book for an official English translation so I can get my hands on my own physical copy of it.

(read this in chi but review is in eng for convenience!)

WOWOWOWOWOW this is my first time reading any of 木蘇里's BLs and oh my god. the writing is absolute perfection. i am so glad i decided to pick up this series bc the first book alr has me in a chokehold 😭🫶🏻.

木蘇里's writing encapsulates the high school experience in a perfect blend of humour, camaraderie, and heartfelt moments - whether it'd be through gorgeous prose or internet memes - and all of the characters (yes, i mean all of them 🙂‍↕️) are fleshed out in their own ways.

盛望 is one of the sweetest and down-to-earth boys ever, and his unwavering dedication towards his studies adds depth to his already adorable self. 江添 starts off cold and indifferent, but slowly warms up to 盛望 (despite not wanting to admit that) and is the ultimate tsundere LOL. both of these male leads are super capable and intelligent (which makes the whole reading experience SO 😍😍 bc AHHHHH NERDS NERDING OUT), but also retain this softness to them that makes them extremely likeable and realistic.

A 班's students are also extremely well written and have unique personalities that defy the stereotypical characteristics of nerds (keep in mind that they're all in the TOP !!! class even tho they don't emphasise their intelligence 24/7 and are super humble), and their relationships with each other are so precious 🥺. their teachers are also super fun and quirky (esp 菁姐 and 何進 MY GOATS 😚) and the playful banter they share w/ their students is just too cute 😭.

i also have to continue praising 木蘇里's beautiful writing bc it flows so well and has SO MUCH emotion w/o using flowery language, and the interactions/inner monologues are so natural and teenager-esque LOL. her expert use of language really just ties the entire reading experience together and i found myself binging most of this book in one night HAHAHA.

this book is also HELLA SLOW BURN (YESSSSSS! MY FAV.) so there's no romance yet but i am SO excited to see how this progresses 😛

i will say that the first few chapters are a tad bit slow and kinda throws you into the story w/o knowing much, but PLEASE CONTINUE READING it is SO worth it in the end 😭🙏🏻. there are also LOADS of charas (and their respective goofy nicknames) so it was a bit troublesome to jot down who's who but over time, it'll make sense 🙂‍↕️.

gonna start the second book asap (matter of fact, i have alr started it as i'm writing this review LMAO) and i can't wait to see the romance blossom between my stubborn and oblivious babies 😌✌🏻.

So far so sweet. I love the slow development of their friendship. While both personalities are not yet fleshed out, you can already see them as who they are. The teachers and classmates are funny and add dynamics to the story.
