A spine-tingling mystery set in a creepily atmospheric boarding school. Ivy must uncover the secrets behind her twin sister Scarlet’s disappearance before it’s too late.
When troublesome Scarlet mysteriously disappears from Rookwood School, terrifying Miss Fox invites her quiet twin sister Ivy to ‘take her place’.
Ivy reluctantly agrees in the hopes of finding out what happened to her missing sister. For only at Rookwood will Ivy be able to unlock the secrets of Scarlet’s disappearance, through a scattered trail of diary pages carefully hidden all over the school.
Can Ivy solve the mystery before Miss Fox suspects? Or before an even greater danger presents itself?
Sophie Cleverly was born in Bath in 1989. She studied for a BA in Creative Writing and an MA in Writing For Young People. She is the author of the SCARLET AND IVY series and THE VIOLET VEIL MYSTERIES, which are published in English by HarperCollins worldwide and are being translated into many different languages.
Aside from writing, she can often be found blogging about symphonic metal, watching fantastical TV and struggling to find her way out of her ever-increasing pile of books.
I'm nearly 30 so I'm WAY out of the demographic for this book... HOWEVER... 10-13 year old me would have been just as excited for it because it had SO MUCH AWESOME, aka stuff I was and still am RIGHT INTO reading. Ballet! Secret diaries! Old timey boarding schools with midnight feasts! Mysteries! A horrible old teacher who was like a combination of Miss Havisham and Mrs Medlock! Creepy skeletons! And the most awesomely random, exciteable adorably nerdy and enthusiastic friend ever!
No matter how old you are, this is a fucking cool book and you should read it :D
BRAVO! Truly, a around of applause is owed to Sophie Cleverly and The Lost Twin. I'm well out of the age range that this book is aimed at, but I absolutely adored every bit of it! I can only imagine how much excitement younger Jessica would have had, upon discovering this story. So many things I love are expertly wrapped up in here. Forbidding boarding schools, terrible headmistresses, brave girls, and tons of secrets. What more could a reader ask for?
If you've been following me for any length of time, you'll know that one of the biggest points in any book for me is character development. In MG fiction, that's even more important. A character needs to grow, to change, and to find themselves in situations that cause them to step outside the box. Cleverly has that down pat. Ivy's character was brilliant. Quiet, meek Ivy learned so much about herself while posing as her much more outgoing sister, Scarlet. I loved watching her come out of her shell, and face down the danger. All for the love of her sibling.
Oh, and the mystery! Pardon my overuse of the word brilliant, but it truly was brilliant! The highest compliment I can extend to this story, was that it made me think of my love of Nancy Drew, as a young reader. The clues. The chase. I was head over heels for all of it. The fact that Cleverly gave Ivy the perfect little sidekick, and best friend, was just the icing on the cake. I couldn't love this story more if I tried.
As you can tell, I am a big fan of this story. The ending was just pure perfection, and I am so eager for more! I'm smitten with Ivy, and so excited to meet her sister. This series and I are going to get along just fine.
Being told that her twin sister Scarlet has died while away at school was without doubt the most horrible thing to ever happen to Ivy. Now the school invites her to take her sister's place - quite literally, as she only finds out once she has arrived at Rookwood. She is supposed to pretend to be Scarlet, imitate her down to the last detail and never ever let on that the real Scarlet is gone. What really happened to Scarlet seems more and more mysterious with this bizarre task, but some clues might lie in Scarlet's diary. The downside: Its pages are hidden all over the school, with only vague hints to guide Ivy through the scavenger hunt required to lay hands on them all - and each new page she finds only seems to add more questions to Ivy's search for answers.
Who doesn't like a good oldfashioned boarding school meets mystery story? While I'm definitely far out of the target group age-wise, that certainly didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the book and looking forward to its sequel.
Ivy's twin, Scarlet, died tragically at her boarding school - and now Ivy has been brought to the same school, Rookwood, to impersonate her sister. But there's a mystery here, and Ivy and her new friend have to solve the clues that Scarlet has left behind to discover what happened to her, and what's wrong at Rookwood. This is a fun, exciting, puzzling story that's perfect for fans of my books! (8+)

WAS HAT MIR GUT GEFALLEN?
WAS HAT MICH GESTÖRT?
Well, I wish there was a six-star option because this book was simply incredible. Everything about it was perfect. The setting, the characters, the story, the style. What a strong lead Ivy was, with Ariadne in toe. It made for a truly exciting, mysterious, and emotional journey. Will be buying and then reading the next one ASAP.
omg!!!!! what a book ! i am totally in love with it , what an experience ; and what a plot ! i wished there were no end , i definitely recommend this one , you will not stop reading it till you reach the last page
Wow! I've heard amazing reviews from my friends, but now I can understand why! A so-called "dead" twin, hated classmates, hunting for diary pages?! It's all GENIUS.
After her twin's death (Scarlet's death), Ivy is sent to Rookwood (I think that's the name) to replace her twin... like, LITERALLY replace her. As soon as she sets foot in the school, she's now known as "Scarlet Grey", no matter how many attempts that Ivy had tried to deny it. She got Scarlet's room, uniform and even enemies! After finding her sister's diary, the hunt for the pages had begun...
Strict teachers, enemies, punishments, friends... will Ivy manage survive Rookwood or will she end up dead like her twin?
That was a really quick read! I just read the whole thing in one sitting.
I really wanted to love this book, but it just wasn't happening for me. It was good, and I did like it, but it wasn't great, and I didn't LOVE it. I don't think I'll be buying the rest of the books in this series, and I might not even read them, although with that cliffhanger I might have to read the next one.
Overall, it was a fun little story that I'd probably recommend to older elementary/ middle school-aged kids.
Ahhhh! This was such a BRILLANT book💕 The story was gripping and there were many twists throughout the book❤️ It is a mystery middle grade and I relished reading it!!!❤️ It was super fast paced!!!
This book is about two twins -Scary and Ivy💕 In other words, it is about how Ivy, finds her lost twin sister. It started up sooo good and the ending was shocking. This book takes place in a boarding school (yay!) and there were many twists and turns. In this particular book, none of my predictions were true😂
I loved Ivy (the main charcater) and timid Ariadne very muchhhh❤️. I even loved the evil Mrs.Fox . She was a teacher but was a headmistress in this book because the headmaster was on a vacation😂There was an amazing plot twist too which shook me❤️❤️ This book was so GRIPPING!!!!!! I think that this series is going to impress me😂 The ending was a bit loose but I liked it😂
I RELISHED this adventure sooo much. Ariadne was really very timid at first but got bold by the end of the book❤️ I loved this book❤️ Go for it….
Ivy loved her twin sister Scarlet dearly. She was Ivy’s opposite. Where Scarlet was brave and confident and mischevious, Ivy was shy, did as she was told and didn’t like to cause any upset. The last time Ivy saw her twin was just before she left for an exclusive boarding school. Unfortunately Ivy hadn’t passed the entrance exams. Ivy is sad she’ll never see Scarlet again, after receiving news that she had become ill and passed away. A letter arrives for Ivy telling her she can take Scarlet’s place at the school. Little does Ivy know she will be not only taking Scarlet’s place, but becoming Scarlet herself! She has to pretend to be her sister. Pushy, loud, feisty and even rude! Confused and scared of the imposing Miss Fox who has demanded this of her, Ivy settles in to Scarlet’s old room at the school, and discovers part of a diary from Scarlet. Something’s not right about all this, and Scarlet’s words prove it. Ivy, while pretending to be Scarlet, navigates her way through classes, Miss Fox’s beady stare, a new personality and daily life at the school, whilst she follows the clues Scarlet has left behind for her. Missing girls, angry rivals, secrets, ballet, and the constant fear of Miss Fox’s cane drive Ivy through this 1st story in this series. Set in a boarding school, far from home in the early 1930’s where past rivalries lurk under the surface, Ivy has no idea why some of the girls dislike her so much. What did Scarlet do or say to make them so angry? Why has she scattered her diary pages all over the school? What secrets is it hiding? The Lost Twin is perfect for lovers of mystery, secrets and sisters. A boarding school, feuding girls, terrible teachers, midnight feasts and night time escapades, this series is definitely one to devour.
Rookwood Okulu hapishane gibiydi. Ivy, Scarlet’in odasını keşfetmeye başladığında yatağında bir sertlik hisseder.
Sevgiler: ADA SEVEN 🧐

This book... wasn't what I expected. I was a little disappointed.
What I missed most in this book was atmosphere. I feel like the school setting had a lot of potential that wasn't used. I never really felt like I was in the school, and it feels like it was hardly described at all. I wanted a bit more of the boarding school atmosphere I had hoped for when starting this series.
I also felt like the mystery was a bit weak. I know it's a middle grade book, so I can't be too hard on it. But I wasn't surprised by any of the revelations in this book. I think it could have done a lot more with the premise it had.
I'm going to give this series a go, because I really wanted to like this. But I didn't like this as much as I thought I would.
The fact that my 12 year old daughter listened to this with us is worth 5 stars alone. (Although I may have done a bit of begging.)
My 16 year old son's rating: 4 stars My 12 year old daughter's rating: 5 stars My 10 year old son's rating: 5 stars
I guess I'll give it 5 stars as well, since I can't complain... although I will say I was surprised at how mean and nasty some girls were, threatening to kill people, etc. But I suppose that's how it could be in real life! :-/
Stop omg Rookwood Boarding School will always live in my heart rent free. This was the best mystery book, or actual book, I’ve ever read- period. It has twin sisters, fake identities, letters, clues, betrayal and evil teachers lmao. What else could you want in a book- This whole series is literally so memorable and amazing. Read it rn.
This is a book that will definitely be enjoyed by young readers aged 10 and above. Includes a mystery about a missing twin, a boarding house life, school friends and foes and some adventure. Recommended if you have a 10+ years old reader at home who enjoyes such tales.
My October book which was one of the 12 books of different genres which I got for Christmas from my daughter. This was a great mystery, exciting and full of tension. The theme of finding yourself and becoming the person you were meant to be also fluttered through the pages.
i keep thinking about this book series. I want to read something that is as entrancing as this book was. It’s been a long time, but I still love this book 😭😭
