Lily and Maisie, ladies of a certain age, and lifelong friends, happily sail through life, blissfully unaware of their many social blunders and faux pas. After discovering a liking for gin, they embark on a few little adventures together.
Even though I was reading letters between two friends, this story made me feel as if I was listening to Lily and Maisie gab at a kitchen table.
These two older ladies amused me greatly. I especially enjoyed the cruise ship sections. I laughed out loud when Maisie misplaced \ lost her teeth. My nana's friend lost hers once under a bleacher and I was tasked with the job to find and retrieve them.
There were editing issues but those centered around style and formatting.
All in all, I enjoyed this story very much. It reminded me of my nana and her silver haired friends.
Hilarious and very enjoyable. Two widowed ladies who don't have an inkling about email or the Internet, nevertheless remain firm friends via snail mail and occasional visits. That is until they discover gin. Now their lives will never be the same...
A charming and funny story. I love the letters that Lily and Maisie send to each other thoughout the book, with many characters, including, Mr Gupta, Boring Barry, and Whiffy Wendy, Not forgetting Lily's portaloo phobia. 😂 Kelvin.
The Gin Queens is a light, humorous novel about two older women, Lily and Maisie, who decide to shake up their quiet lives. Told through letters, the story follows their friendship, funny adventures, and love for gin.
The book is lighthearted and easy to read, with strong female friendship at its heart. However, the plot is slow at times and lacks emotional depth. It's more about small moments than big events.
A pleasant, feel-good read. Best for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with humor and heart.
An entertaining and amusing read. Two lifelong friends of a certain age, they have found a liking for gin and enjoyment. Weekends away and a cruise are just the beginning. I highly recommend this book. I guarantee you will want to more about these two ladies. I know l do. Hopefully a second book will follow..
