7 deities, one girl, 1 prophecy, and a ton of chaos!

I read some other things by this artist and when I learned this one was bundled together in a book I decided to read this one on WebToon and get it on my Goodreads! Funnily, at points there were recognisable parts and I was wondering if I had read it or not, then came the end and I was like OH YES, I did read this. Probably back when it first came out on WebToon so around 2018. No wonder that I had forgotten, haha, and WebToon of course didn’t show it as read anymore. But I don’t mind! I am happy I can re-read this one and see how far I did get before apparently forgetting about it.

In this one we meet a girl named Joanna. She has a good (not really fun) job at a magazine but her love life just plain sucks. Yes, she is writing stuff about dating but dating things are just not going well for her. A typical thing in many books, but I didn’t mind. I was curious what she would do next, and well that is swiping left and right on a dating app. And that is how she meets not just one potential match, but 7. Say hello to Daeriel (my fav for most of the story), Traïr (not sure about him), Alvos (not a fan of him), Xatys (still haven’t got a read on them but the flan obsession made me laugh), Zidabe (still not entirely trusting him, but he is one of my favs despite me not really being into guys with long hair), Avusavia (love love her, she is my fav), and one that Joanna couldn’t read and is now dubbed as Alex, which made me laugh because that is how I am with fantasy names, oh your name is BLEJ)(JG)(AS well great you are now Bert. Congrats. And if you think life is pretty fun with 7 deities vying for you? Think again! These 7 deities need to fulfil a prophecy which means one of them needs to have sex with Joanna to get a baby who will rule the world. Yes, that sounds iffy, I know right, but I was also like, OH OK, let’s go! Dating time! Who will she pick?

She is bound to contract and is now stuck with 7 deities who don’t get the concept of personal space. These 7 deities will wreck havoc and will make Joanna have a notebook with rules. Like not showing up in the bedroom like that. No showing up at work. I really laughed my butt of at the antics of these deities and how little they seemed to understand human life.

And the dates? Well, some go like a normal date would go, and some go completely of the rails. I am glad that the rules were set and that if you fucked around say bye to your date. Everybody got a chance to be with Joanna and you better just not screw this up.

As the story continues we see that Joanna isn’t always doing the best (the deities though do try to make things up with her) and that we also learn some new deets about the deities but also about the prophecy. Because is the prophecy really that simple? What happens when you do try to break the contract? Is every deity so kind and friendly or are they leaning more to antagonist sides (especially again given some things we learn…).

Bonus points to the fun art + also to Joanna’s roommate, Maira! I loved the friendship between them and was very happy that we even get a backstory later on how these two got to be roommates.

Since I read this one on WebToon I have to also mention that I loved the Q&As we got that answered some questions on both the story as well as the artist.

All in all, I need to know what happens next because this one ends on a CLIFFHANGER! Yes, be warned! If you need a fun WebToon with a bit more layers than you expect at first be sure to check it out! Who are you going to root for? Or are you hoping for a harem ending?

Joanna writes for a dating magazine but has no luck herself. She downloads a dating app and swipes right on everyone without checking who she has swiped on. She ends up swiping on 7 Gods who believe her to be part of a prophecy; she needs to choose one of them to date and be impregnanted by to save the universe.

I had no idea where this was going as the idea sounds quite light initially, but it ends up on quite a dark turn and I'm interested to see how the story progresses.

This is some of my favourite graphic novel art of all time. Truly stunning, please let me have Jo's hair. I enjoyed the little author notes at the back, super funny.
