BOOK 1: MURDER ON THE MARSH When waitress Emma Dawson disappears, it looks like the police might have a serial killer on their hands. Emma seems to have been part of cultish group obsessed with contacting the dead via a medieval mystic. Then another child disappears. DI Sam Clayton faces a race against time to catch the killer.
BOOK 2: THE BAD SISTER DI Sam Clayton is called to a murder scene in Holt, not expecting to find his estranged sister at the scene. Her husband, Henry Lambton, has been murdered. Meanwhile, vicious arson attacks in Norwich are sparking fear among the locals. The two crimes stretch the team to their limits. But they must pull together and race against time to prevent more attacks and get justice for their loved and not so loved ones.
BOOK 3: PLAY DEAD Musician Kristina Manning is impaled by her cello spike. The disgraced conductor is found with his head stuffed in a piano. And a trumpeter dies, poisoned by his mouthpiece. Is there a serial killer with a musical edge on the loose? And what does the disappearance of former orchestra member Lauren Garner have to do with it?
I would say this is a 4.5 star for the three titles because 1 and these get the 4 whilst book 2 most definitely a 5🌟. This is an interesting series which I have enjoyed. Accurate settings, key characters of developing interest and backgrounds plus very different themes in each title. I did find the third title a little busy with names which sometimes meant I lost track of the who/what/why's, hence the 4🌟. Certainly worth any readers money, especially if you prefer a cosier style of murder, without bad language and gore, but retaining the red herrings and complexities of police procedures. I have little interest in whether the details of procedure are accurate, I read for pleasure and entertainment and this volume achieved both.
Three compelling books about Detective Inspector Sam Clayton and his team . Clayton is a complex man with problems, including anger issues. In each book there is murder and violence, but he is tenacious and committed to his career. His character developed over the three books and was believable. I will be reading more of these books.
I liked the second story the best It's the reason I gave three stars. The first story was somewhat boring and the third story was ok, but it dragged at times.
