Passion, that’s what Dom had, passion for pole dancing, and nothing would stop him following his dream.
But a call in the middle of the night, had him running home, running from his former life. His brother needed him and to Dom, family was always important.
So here he was, back where it all began and where it had ended.
A chance meeting, a reconnection with the one he thought he’d lost forever.
Fleeting moments, a night of bliss. That was all he had to remind him of the boy he’d never stopped loving. But he knew he couldn’t let him go again.
How it all ended though, he knew that he had to make amends, prove that this time, it was going to be their time.
Poles Apart is the second in the Nava Dance Studios series. It’s a story of second chances, lost loves and reconnection. A story that will warm your heart and guaranteed to leave you smiling.
Alex is an MM author from the NW of England. She's married with three grown-up sons and two Tamaskan dogs, her night time companions when she's writing into the early hours!
She writes gritty, realistic, mainly contemporary romance but always with a happy ever after.
Her tagline? Finding Forever - One Chapter at a Time.
An avid reader, she started writing one lunch break, writing her first book in no time at all. From there, her passion grew and The Nava Dance Studios series was born. Her writing style has changed, a darker feel creeping into her work and while she doesn't profess to be a dark author, she covers some socially dark subjects.
She'd love to move somewhere sunny with a beach view, continuing to write about her perfectly, imperfect men.
Mediocre, but less Manufactured Angst than we've come to expect. It's sweet without quite reaching Saccharine Levels, which is welcome.
Cute second chance elements.
Adequate secondary characters.
It's nice that both MCs are care takers.
The more outlandish elements detract from the narrative.
But the leads aren't as compelling as the first installment. As messy as that story is, both men are somewhat interesting. These two are more milquetoast.
Wow! Alex J Adams is a new author that lovers of MM contemporary romance are not going to want to miss! Her second release, Poles Apart: Nava Dance Studios Book 2, is a sexy, steamy, second chance romance will all the feels. The chemistry between young Dom & Jacob leapt right off the pages. Eight years later, that attraction is still combustible but Dom has put his dancing career on hold to care for his brother. Add in his anger at Jacob disappearing from his life years earlier and his fear of being hurt again, and these two have a lot to work through. However, Jacob, now a teacher raising his little sister, is determined to win Dom back with some helpful tips from his friends. Alex’s writing really brought me into the hearts and souls of these characters with a great balance between the fantastic story, emotions, and heat. Dom and Jacob won my heart and had me cheering when they got their happily ever after. I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author.
This was a good book. Dom and Jacob’s story is a sweet tale of second chances and learning to forgive someone for something that was beyond their control. Dom intrigued me from Seb and Joe’s story. The events of these two books actually run concurrently which was an interesting twist. Dom and Jacob were both naive young adults when the actions of Jacob’s parents forced them suddenly apart. With no chance to explain, Jacob finds himself separated from Dom right when they were ready to commit to each other. Dom is unaware of what happened and is left thinking Jacob just ghosted him leaving him heartbroken and alone. When the two of them reconnect, he isn’t willing at first to listen. As they slowly start talking and getting to know each other as older, wiser people, they both realize that the old feelings never really left. It really is a sweet story and I enjoyed watching the two of them heal and rekindle their love for each other. It was also nice to know that the situation with Seb and Joe would end well.
I love second chance romances so I was really looking forward to reading this, the second book in the Nava Dance Studios series. I am more than happy to say that I love this book just as much as the first book, which really must be read before this one,as they are so closely intertwined. Both main characters are lovely and I was rooting for them all the way through this beautifully written delight. I received an ARC copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
Poles Apart was everything I expected it to be from this author… and so much more. The friends to lover’s genre are not my first go-to, but Alex J. Adams just became my go-to author for this one. Dom and Jacob melted me. They have the best start only to have it come crashing down. When they come back to each other 8 years later, it’s absolutely stunning. The story moves flawlessly and we get to see the POV of both characters. They’ve been through some ups and downs, especially Jacob. The twists and turns have brought them back to where they are today and I think because of these life adventures it’s made the story what it is. There’s no doubt Alex J. Adams can write a fantastic story. I love her character development, her storylines, and I especially love how much you can feel the emotions of her characters you read. I got lost in this story for hours and had it finished in two days. The characters she writes you to love, you absolutely adore. The characters she writes you to hate, good God they were sleazy until your skin crawled. You can just imagine that club and those two standing right there and you wanted to run out of there yourself. And the one, you’ll know when you read it. You’ll hate him. But then you’ll feel like Jacob does in the end too. That is excellent writing. You’ll get lost in the kids and love them dearly. And you’ll get lost in that dance on the stage and wish it was you. And you’ll never just hear that song again. You’ll know it and it will always remind you of Dom and Jacob. And the epilogue, those last lines. Nothing like ending an epic book with a laugh-out-loud moment. My favorite kind.
This is the second book by Alex J.Adams & part of the Nava Dance Studios series & is a tale of young love, heartache, loss, separation, growth, family, forgiving, trust …………. all consuming love rediscovered & happiness. So many emotions evoked from page one, drawing you in impatiently as you need to know what happens between Dom & Jacob now they’ve found each other again. I was so looking forward to this story & oh my did it deliver! A beautiful love story, with plenty of ‘spice’ to keep you impatiently turning the pages 🔥 & once again the supporting characters are wonderful; we need a story about Hayden….. please 🙃 Alex if you read this I adore the humour liberally sprinkled throughout; if I didn’t know better you would never know this was only your 2nd book! You’re a gifted writer & it is a pleasure reading your books.
Poles Apart was an excellent book! The characters that Alex came up with, and their situations, could have been any person, not just some far fetched made up idea. The highs and lows, the doubts that we often have running through our own minds, and the love of family, and the disfunction of it. At first I read so quickly, I was afraid I’d finish the book too fast, but Jacob and his quest to win Dom back, was just so sweet that I had to slow down, had to take my time to absorb the story. Well written story that I’d recommend any time.
I first read this book early, before it was finished. I completely fell in love with these characters. I have to say this first, before I finish my review. Alex has a way of writing her characters so that they feel completely real and relatable. You are invested in this relationship. That is a rare gift. That being said, here's my review. I was so disappointed in Jacob's parents. The way the handled everything was the catalyst to heartbreak. Dom, I had a soft spot in my heart for him from the beginning, he is such a gifted dancer. You know what? I can tell you that this book is amazing, well crafted, brilliantly written and its all true. The only thing you really need to know is that this book will touch your heart, make you laugh, and you will thank yourself for reading it.
Dom and Jacob are former friends with benefits, who’s meeting again after 8 years apart! This book start with a bang! The hot way 🔥 and then something happens that’ll change everything for them. Dom and Jacob are both caretakers, and this is a story about finding back together, but also about finding your own happiness. There’s some assholes in this story, but together and with each others support they get through everything. I have a sweet spot for kissing scenes, and there’s many, beautiful, hot ones in this book. I really appreciated that there’s not only hot moments in this one, but tender ones too. The sex scenes are hot! Erotic and with emotions! They can’t get enough of each other, and the chemistry is sizzling! And there’s mention of food and tea, I’m definitely here for that! Great side characters, and a lovely hea! Highly recommended it!
I absolutely fell in love with Dom and Jacob the two main characters in Poles Apart. This story of a second chance at romance, is one that will make the reader feel multiple emotions. I found myself tearing up at certain parts of the book as Alex J. Adams’ writing makes her characters feel like they are real people. I also enjoy how even the supporting characters have depth and are such an integral part of the story. To me, Alex’s writing can make the reader feel like they are in the story along with all her great characters. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the rest of this series.
Poles Apart is book 2 of the “Nava Studio Dance” series by author Alex J. Adams; and what a book it is!!! This is the story of second chance love. The characters of Dom and Jacob have been through so much together; and also as individuals. This is a story of so many emotions, and you actually FEEL them. That’s due to the brilliant writing style of the author. You feel the heartbreak, you feel the love, and ultimately, the forgiveness. The sex scenes in this book: scorching HOT!! That’s all I have to say about them, end of. Alex did a fantastic job with this book, and I cannot wait to read her future work.
Poles Apart is the second installment in the Nava Dance Studios series by Alex J. Adams and it did not disappoint. I don't necessarily know that I liked it better than Seb's story in Dance with Me, but it had its own unique flair to it. It's that lost lovers coming back together story that gives you the feels from the beginning and keeps you cheering them until the end.
Dom and Jacob knew each other and were together in secret at 18. When they get caught one night by Jacob's parents, Dom runs away and never sees or hears from Jacob again until 8 years later. A lot has happened in their lives. Dom had a career as a pole dancer, traveling all over the world, while Jacob lost his parents and began raising his kid sister at the age of 20. He's done everything he can to make sure she's provided for and even though becoming a teacher was not his initial dream, it feels so right now. When Jacob decides to start Abby, his sister, in dance lessons, he can't believe his eyes when he walks in and sees Dom for the first time. Dom isn't so welcoming though. He isn't happy to see him and doesn't want to give Jacob a chance to explain the last 8 years. He tells Jacob that he will take Abby on, but that's it. Of course, Dom doesn't think that'll be it and the more he sees Jacob, the more he wants to know what happened. When they meet and Jacob explains, Dom is not the nicest to him and Jacob walks out.
When they see each other again, they apologize to each other and begin to spend time together. The more time they spend together, the more they fall for each other again. There are always those outside forces threatening to take over, such as Mr. Wilkins, the homophobic man that tries to make trouble for Jacob at work. The threats Mr. Wilkins makes last for quite a while until Jacob discovers something about him. That's when the threats end and Jacob can get his life back on track. He and Dom are in love and they know that no matter what outside forces try to invade their lives, with the support of their friends and family, they will always make it through.
This book had everything you could want in a romance: the push and pull of old lovers coming back together; the outside forces trying to push them apart again; the family and friends that try to step in to help them come together; and the love and romance between the two MCs to give the reader the happy ending we know we all deserve. The character development was great and the story arc was on point with the series. I would highly recommend this series and this book to any romance reader that likes the old lovers coming back together trope.
I received this ARC for my honest review from Gay Romance Reviews.
MM, Second chance, Contemporary Romance. Second book in the series but reads as a stand-alone with no loss of enjoyment or understanding. Easy to read page-turner with great characters, a great story with some angst amongst the sweet romance and drama and heat. A great read. Guaranteed HEA.
This book is a solid 4,5* for me. This is the second book in the series and also the second published book by the author. She did not disappoint. This is a second chance story for Dom, which we met in ' Dance with me', is a (pole) dancer and instructor and Jacob , a teacher. The story is told from both their POV, which is great in the way that you see the same scene from both characters , however it also gives me as a reader a bit of distance. I could folliow the story development very well; there where references to characters/situations from book one and this gave me another insight into that story as well. The character development was well done and believable, no sudden shake ups in character but slow and steady with an all to human tendency to fall back in old habits.
The MC's each get one major hurdle on their path and have to deal with that as an individual and as a couple while finding their way as such. There will be a third book in the series and I hope it will be about Hayden, even though he is not adancer, but their neighbour.i
This book has a hfn/hea. Be aware of potential trriggers, please read the blurb provided by the author.
I was given an arc/ copy of the book by the writer to leave an honest review.
Eight years apart from when Jacob was sent away by his parents to be able meet again and realise that the flame is still flickering. This is book 2 in the Nava Dance Studio series. The author has started her career with amazing books and I feel that she will be taking the MM world by storm. I was a bit thrown in the beginning by how short Dom is as I had pictured him taller in book 1, being the friend Seb found comfort and protection in. The cover art by Garrett Leigh @ Black Jazz Designs is mesmerising and well worth praise. I received a copy from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
Well I didn't see that coming!!! The story for this book runs concurrently with the story from book one; you really do need to have read 'Dance With Me' so that the whole of this book makes sense to you.
For a second book it definitely works for me though. It is very cleverly written, weaved into the storyline of book one perfectly. We see the return of the same cast plus and minus a few, including one of the main characters; we see the development of one of the original characters into a main character and then obviously see their progression through the book and progress they do!!
This book is absolutely chocoblock full of bone deep love for friends, family and lovers which brings a sense of emotional warmth and plenty of heat throughout the pages. As per the first book the story is paced like a well choreographed dance with beautiful dips into the characters and light foot steps through their lives. But don't be fooled this book also tackles homophobia and attempted s3exual assault; both being dealt with very carefully and sensitively.
You won't be disappointed reading this book, but ensure you read 'Dance With Me' first, I don't feel that this one would work as a standalone. I'm totally recommending this book to you for your kindle today xx
I received a copy of this book from the author and provide my honest review voluntarily
I really enjoyed this book by Alex J Adams. It runs concurrently with Dance with Me, the first book in the Nava Dance Studios series. Dom had committed himself to caring for his brother after a fall and wasn't sure where his life was going. Jacob was committed to raising his sister after the death of this parents. They had history but could they have a future. The concept of the book is realistic and believable. The supporting characters are really good and well written. Fabulous book and great new writer for me
If you met Dom in book one of this series, you'll know he is quite a complicated man. Here, we find out why. The story of his relationship with Jacob is alternately hot and heartbreaking. I wondered who the guy would be for Dom, and Jacob is perfect. Both of them have faced tough times, family issues, homophobia, self doubt - things that for a time, broke them apart. Watching them find their way back to each other and to that perfect ending will leave you with a huge smile and a sense that these two are exactly where they are supposed to be.
This was a great follow up to the first book. I loved Dom and Jacob. They were awesome. Like every second chance love story that had their trials and tribulations to get through. This was a wonderful story that I loved and couldn't put down. I cant wait to see what comes next.
When I was reading Dance with Me I really hoped this author would write a story for Dom. I got my wish and it’s wonderful!! I adore Dom and Jacob, their chemistry is fantastic and the road to HEA is full of drama, laughter and heartwarming moments. This story left me with a huge smile on my face and giving my kindle a hug! It’s one of my favourite reads of 2021 and I’m looking forward to more from this author. Five stars.
This is the second book by Alex J. James and the second book in this series! Alex has knocked it out of the park again. This book has "all the feels"! I am so excited to see read more books by this author! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review!
I loved Dom in the first book in this series but wow. I just want to hug him and Jacob. The both the story and the characters pulled at my heart. I can’t wait to see what Alex writes next
Phenomenal second chance love story! Dom and Jacob sure know how to heat up the pages. Talk about hot and steamy from the first page. Wow! These two were meant to be together. Even after years of being apart the connection between them is undeniable. I love how they both believe in family coming first. The love and support they give each other is amazing. I knew this was going to be another amazing book from Alex. She did not disappoint. I couldn't put this book down. This is a must read!
I was gifted my copy of this book, that I write a review was not required.
I read the first book in this series, and while I liked it, something about that book didn't quite work for ME.
This one, I found, was a much better read!
8 years ago, Dom and Jacob got caught, and they didn't see each other again. Neither forgot about their time together, and when Jacob's sister books Dom to teach her dance, the pair come in contact again. But both men are wary of each other and it takes time for them to fully trust again. Dom cares for his injured brother, and Jacob his little sister,so neither man is baggage free. Can they make it work?
I liked how this story unfolded. It wasn't immediately clear what happened back then, and I liked being made to wait a bit.
I liked that both are wary of the other, but once they decide they want to make this work, they are all in. And so much with the smexy times once they do! They really do try to make up for lost time.
I did not see the issue with the parent at school resolving itself THAT way, so well played there! And with the guys in the club, that didn't go where I thought it would!
It sort of runs along side Dance With Me, and for some reason that took me a little while to work that out!
Because the guys already did their break up, there isn't a great deal of angst between them, it's all external. I liked that too!
It's still a little bit 'talky', lots of dialogue and a couple of text message conversations are repeated from both points of view, not too many. Just me, is all. Some people will love that.
Like I said, I enjoyed this much more than Dance With Me, and I can comment on the fact that the author's skill is growing. It takes time to hone any skill, as long as Ms Adams keeps at it, she will continue to grow.
4 stars
Thank you, to Ms Adams for my copy. Keep at it, please!
This is the second in the Nava Dance Studios series, you could read it as a standalone but I would recommend the first book, not only as you'll get an introduction to the world and characters but because it's really good.
This is Dom and Jacob's story. We meet Dom in book 1 as he's Seb's best friend. Initially in the first book I wasn't sure about Dom but here we get to know him so much better and I really warmed to him. I loved getting to know Dom and finding out more about him and why he'd come back after so long away doing what he loved. I do love the second chance story, especially when the characters have been through a lot and find each other again, and that's exactly what this is.
What I really liked about the first book was the element of suspense in the story that kept me intrigued enough that I really wanted to know what was going to happen and how it would all turn out. That's here too, to a somewhat smaller extent and both characters have things going on in their lives that causes a little drama. It all serves to tell a good story and it's enough to keep me turning the pages and rooting for the characters in the end.
I'm here for the duration, and I'm hoping Hayden gets his story too.
I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.
Heartwarming, enjoyable second-chance-at-love romance. Dom and Jacob reconnect unexpectedly a couple of years after being torn apart by meddling parents and tragedy, and Dom especially is hesitant to risk being hurt again. I’m not exactly a big fan of the second-chance-at-love trope but the author wrote it well. Family is very important to both MCs’ lives, and I just loved how close Jacob and Dom both are to their siblings and even more so how Dom interacts with Jacob’s younger sister. Like with the first book, there’s an element of danger and suspense to add tension to the overall storyline. I liked the natural flow of the dialogue and how well-written and interesting the secondary characters were. We get to see Seb again and even Joe some too, the MCs from the first book in the series, which helps link the stories and is a nice bonus in and of itself.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review. This is the second book in the serie, it can be read as standalone but it's better if you read also the first one. The stories take place in the same time period. I apprecciated the writing, the flow, the build up of the relationship, the hero-time, everything about Jacob's work issue, how very good friends are Colin and Lindsay. I understand the reasons why Dom omitted to Seb his relationship but I'd have liked to see his reaction when Dom would have told him. My special mention goes to Abby, she's an amazing person and a wonderful sister.
