After saving the world not once, but three separate times, Lazarus is more than ready to settle into retirement. But fate has other plans.
When warring gods decide to hold a peace summit, Lazarus is roped into serving as their negotiator. Without his Horseman powers, he’ll need a little help from his friends. Unfortunately, his bestie and new Pale Horseman, Nate Frieder, has disappeared.
Laz’s search for the missing Horseman leads him into werewolf territory deep in the bayou. There he must navigate the difficult social hierarchy of the isolated Delacroix Island pack while balancing his duty as a negotiator and searching for Nate. One misstep and he could become werewolf chow, and that’s the good news. If he fails to broker an agreement between the underworld gods, catastrophe waits. The fate of the world is once again on Laz’s shoulders, and this time he doesn’t have his Horseman powers to help.
If you are a fan of Shayne Silvers, M.D. Massey, Kevin Hearne or Jim Butcher, you won't want to miss the exciting and long-awaited continuation of The Lazarus Codex!
Lazarus Kerrigan is back, in EA Copen's 13th Lazarus Codex supernatural masterpiece, Lone Wolf and from the start problems arise, both domestic and supernatural, such as his pregnant wife Emma's increasing number of cravings. Nate Frieder, (aka the Pale Horseman/Death) Laz's close friend, has been allegedly been kidnapped by one of the crafty Val Baptiste's werewolves and Baron Samedi is most unhappy. So he sends Kit Nakamata, (think Uma Thurman in Kill Bill), to order Laz to find Nate asap - or else. Luckily the hunt is a short one, but Laz learns of Charlie, a rogue werewolf - the eponymous Wolf - who's gone rogue and is causing death and destruction all over. What will Laz do? Whom does he meet at Baptiste's mansion? What does the Baron reveal about Nate? Where does Laz go to save both his friend - and later his family?
A riveting 11th supernatural masterpiece from EA Copen, Lone Wolf will make you look at werewolves, vampires and other creatures that go bump in the night in a whole new light. Welcome to the shadowy world, where once again, Laz is 'riding the trail' between life and death as a Horseman. Will things end happily ever after, as Emma prepares to welcome their child into its new heritage? Get your copy to find out!
I loved this book. I had thought that the previous L.C. book was the last of the series until this one was listed as a preorder eons ago & was really surprised. I didn't read it right away, hoping it would come out on audio, but the author said that's unlikely at this time. Once I knew that, I headed straight into it and, when I finally had the time to do so, binged the heck out of the last half. It's very suspenseful, a very don't trust anyone kind of feeling goes through it, (yet Lazarus is so ridiculously bad at that sometimes), and for the most part, it's not totally predictable - not that this series is generally predictable, other than at some point, Laz will save the day, (or at least save the world for now). There are really interesting side characters. Some are familiar and become even more intriguing, and some new ones. (I definitely recommend reading the Hellbent Halo series in the proper order with this series too, b/c there are a few references to circumstances that occurred in that series in this book, a sort of fallout of sorts. It's not ESSENTIAL, but definitely recommended). I'm so glad that the author wrote in a note at the end that she's planning on a few more books in this series & possibly some additional spin-offs. I can never get enough, it seems.
Loved this book. Another great installment in the series. I thought I was caught up but I'd actually missed a couple. This series is best read in order. It was a little bit spoiler-ish for me because I was out of the loop, but it actually ended up being kind of exciting because now I get to go back and watch the action take place with a different perspective. I'm looking forward to it!
I'm really enjoying this series, and, to be honest, everything I've read by this author. E.A. is not a one-trick pony - there are several genres to choose from in her library. The genre for this series is hard to pin down. It's a little Noir, a little urban fantasy, and a lot gritty. I love the action, the dialog, the world building. One of the things that really drew me to Lazarus, is how authentically male he is written. Sometimes you can tell when a woman author is writing in a man's POV. Not so with these books.
If you haven't started this series, do it. If you have, and haven't gotten this book, do it. You'll be happy you did.
Lone Wolf by E.A. Copen is Book 13 in The Lazarus Codex series. Another adventure with Laz. Emma, Laz's wife, is about to have a baby. Their friend Nate asks Laz for help, Laz says no as he's retired, but Emma makes him change his mind. When he goes booking for Nate, he discovers Nate has disappeared. Now the fun begins with gods, vampires, demons all wanting the power of a horseman & namer. If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed adventure with great world building, exceptional characters with great dialog, then this book and series is a must read and one I highly recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
I don't know if the author goes fishing, but she casts a mean hook. To quote, "I came through my front door after a long date at work to find Death waiting. He adjusted his glasses and said, "We need to talk."" Glub, glub - hook firmly dug in and dragging my attention into dysfunctional family dynamics times two, pregnancy cravings (scary!), and a less-than-harmonious convocation of supernatural beings near the Big Easy. What a rush! I definitely have to go back to the beginning and binge.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lazarus is back from retirement to find Ned his replacement horseman who has disappeared mysteriously after asking Lazarus for help, meeting old, new friends, family and adversaries only having his necromancer magic to help him out of some pretty tight situations. I couldn't put this book down, captured from the first chapter, no way can Laz stay in retirement loads more to come here lucky book 13. I got this as an arc from EA Copen great to see Laz back didn't know I had missed his character so much.
Excellent read. Lazarus is asked to return and act as mediator for gods in order to pick a new Namer. But he feels that he has been out too long to be effective but his friend and Horseman explains that he would be neutral and ideal for the job. At first he refuses but then changes his mind. But after going after his friend who turns up missing, he decides to proceed and takes the job but things turn up that were not expected and that mean danger for him. Even a person claiming to be his grandfather shows up and then it open season with action after action taking place. Well worth reading.
A whole lot of fun and a great story of how Lazarus can be a retired Horseman , an upcoming father, pretending to be a normal guy and still manage to have his world turned further inside out, sideways, and completely screwed over. A continuation of previous books that answers done questions, ask a whole lot more, and brings gods and magic and other supernatural to the bayou. Just remember, family is everything.
For a person who retired, Lazarus is going to have a big come back! Nate comes to see Lazarus to ask him the host / arbitrator at a big meeting to decide who would become the namers to decide who fills the last two positions as Horsemen. Well he says no but Emma changes his mind. Emma his wife is expecting his baby soon. When Lazarus goes to find Nate , he has disappeared and the fun begins. There is a saying to keep your friends close but your enemies close. Well Lazarus will change it a bit as he is about to deal with someone in his family and what a wake-up call. We have gods, vampires and demons all wanting the power of a namer and horseman. Many secrets will be revealed but the outcome of all the action is the good guys win and Lazarus wins to live another day and do some good in the future. Excellent book which I highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this Laz story. It was a hoot to read and watch the many hats he must wear in the story. A lot was going on must it all kind of connected is a fun way. Loved the action and found it to be a riot to read. And here Laz thought he was retired. Entertaining and fun. Cannot go wrong with gods, horseman and wolves
A good story. I am not sure what the Horsemen really have to do with the story. It could have been about anyone or thing to do with the paranormal. It is different with an ex Horseman. I did enjoy the story. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wonderful addition to the series. In jt Laz is pulled out of retirement (with great protest) and has to yet again deal with gods, demons, Fae, and monsters to save the world (or at least a large part of it). We also get to meet a new faction of magicals right near his hometown.
Ever book gets better and better, I have laughed, cried ,gotten so pissed I had to take a walk as well as hoping all will. Work out with Emma and Lazarus can hardly wait for book 14 can go wrong with these books.
Lazarus is back with even more adventure than last time. Wherever he goes, a mystery happens to keep him busy. There’s no stopping until you get to the end.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
It was so good to see Lazarus back! One of my favourite characters from one of my favourite series. I love how E.A. Copen writes her characters. Lazarus really stands out to me because he's so entertaining. He has the dry humour that just cracks me up.
Lazarus thought he had retired until Nate showed up on his doorstep asking for help. Lazarus said no, Emma convinced him to do it. When Lazarus went looking for Nate, he had disappeared and the story goes from there. Gods, wolves, demons, vampires, Fae all looking for a chance at power.
I'm so glad that this series is continuing. I thought the last book was the last one in the series and I was disappointed. I'm glad that there will be more!
