You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

The phrase on the side of Embry’s shot glass sounds like a sign from the universe. And when her friend, Hadley, forwards her a video of the latest internet craze – The Shoot Your Shot Challenge – she can no longer ignore the cosmic push. If the women on the FlipFlop app can grab life by the lady balls and kiss their best friends, so can Embry. But what’s a girl to do when her shot gets Knox-blocked?

Knox Jacobs thought nothing would be more awkward than shooting down his best friend. Then, the Coronach-20 pandemic hits, trapping him thousands of miles from home – with the woman whose heart he just broke. But as the hustle and bustle of everyday life slips away, he finds himself wondering if maybe he’s the one who blew his shot.

Shelter-in-place is one thing. Sheltering at her place is not exactly what he had in mind.

4.1 ⭐️

So, of course, with COVID happening, I was totally expecting books like this to come out--and I expected it would happen first for self-published books, since I had read a Publishers Weekly article by some agents and editors explicitly saying, okay, no, please no COVID stories, it's too soon and we're trying to escape here.

And, well, I can see why they said that.

Here's what works. The cover, title, and description all do a pretty good job of showing the reader what the book is about and what it will be like. And this is very much a happy romp through a COVID situation some might find ideal. It's also short, breezy, and relatively easy to speed through. I liked the regular inclusion of Emy's three best girlfriends, too, who are exactly the kind of squad you need to get through a horrific time like Emy has here, as well as Emy and Knox's family, albeit from a distance.

Where this just wasn't the book for me: I'm already not a big fan of romance where sex seems to be the driving factor or the key to forming love, and as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about personal and relational health, I just didn't find a lot of patterns and plot points in here healthy, much less the main characters and their relationship. Let's be real--if one of my best friends were Emy and she were telling me about her episodes over the years with Knox, I'd say: either grow up and really give it a genuine shot (not just going to try and then turning around when you feel rejected), or let it go. I'm glad Knox seeks advice from his dad and Emy's dad and eventually even his brother, but also, they could probably have afforded to be even more point-blank with him, because he was just clueless.

Also, I could not with "coronach-20." We all know you're talking about COVID-19; just call it what it is, pretty sure that's not an officially licensed trademark. Similar eyeroll re: FlipFlop, but I guess I understand wanting to play it on the safe side re: TikTok.

The ending is cute I guess, but felt very lukewarm about the book overall.

This is my first read for both authors.

Let's start of that when I saw the title and read the blurb I knew I had to read this. I think more than ever we can relate to this story. All of us stuck in Lockdown.

The story goes like this - Emy and Knox has been bffs since they were little but when the Lockdown happens and they are stuck together for 2 weeks with each other. The thing they didn't count on is that they both are grown up and super hot and being this closes 24/7 spark up some deep down feelings.

I really loved Emy and her group of girlfriends. This made me wish I had friends like that. I think most women can relate to Emy and the frustration we sometimes feel. We can see and feel Emy internal struggles.

Knox is that typical boy next door jealous type of guy we all have known some point in our life. the only thing is Emy still knows him.

Quarantine Crush is a sweet fun romance and perfect for the heavy times we are in currently.

I give it

Did I have nothing to do on a Saturday and did I listen to the (almost) complete book in one day? Yes, yes I did. I need to step up my game if I'm going to get this reading challenge finished in time, so I decided it was time for a cute and easy story. Quarantine Crush seemed like exactly that! It's also very short, which helps me out with the reading challenge.

Anyway, I quite liked this book. It's very predictable and definitely follows a well-known pattern (we like each other, miscommunication, we date for a day, we get in a fight, we make up, some miscommunication again, you know the drill), but I still enjoyed listening to it.

The characters aren't that special or unique, but they are pretty okay. Also the quarantine aspect was something I quite liked. It's of course something we all went through last year (or even this year!), but now that we're out of it I also feel like it has something of a romantic setting. I don't know. It was just a nice book, nothing too special, but I enjoyed it!

Kinda of silly. Like i never saw what was the big issue. The dialogue was...lacking. Couldn't stand anyone. I'm honestly surprised i didn't DNF it.

The only reason I started this book is because of Teddy Hamilton (narrator) ,and finished this book because I was working on cutting and prepping for my school project. And listening to it, helped the story be a little bit interesting. 🤔

I don't have enough words to adequately express how much I loved this book!! But here goes! My heart became heavily invested from the moment that Emy answered the door and Knox was on the other side. The emotional depth and history made this one compelling and utterly unputdownable read! I loved reading each word because I was just so hopeful that in the end these two beings would realize that their kind of love was worth it all! This is an iconic book! It's written during the pandemic and the characters are quarantined together. This very lightly touches upon the issues of the time, but instead of dwelling upon the frightening bits, it fully embraces the best moments of humanity! It's been a depressing time for so many, myself included and this was exactly what I needed!!! The romance was so heartwarming and really very touching! I absolutely love Hildenbrand and Shepherd! They create magic wherever they collaborate that gives you the perfect blend of humor drama and all the feels!

I’ll be straight forward:

the plot is obvious. Didn’t bother me tho. With these kind of books you know what you get: back and forth, back and forth until in the end they happily get back together

The main characters act like 14 year olds. None of them seems mature in any way. Talking about what bothers you to secure the relationship? No! Why care. Reflecting on yourself to know your true filling? Pffff.

The story is illogical: why should he even want to be with someone else if he had a crush on her this whole time. And then the only thing he thinks about is: I didn’t want her to see it. Like what the f*** dude. Grow up. It doesn’t matter if she sees it or not: you are doing it.
She never talked about her feelings in any way. He tried to talk to her sometimes and most of the time she goes: no not now. I don’t feel like it. Or completely shutting him out. I understand she is heartbroken but how did she want this relationship to work anyway if she never spoke about what bothers her. And now I’m supposed to be on her side??
MMC knows he loves her, appreciates her, thinks she’s hot, etc. but wants to save a platonic relationship which is already ruined (partly due to him for sleeping with her and saying THIS IS MORE THAN A HOOK UP. I mean make it make sense?!)

Friends and family gave lame advice. The only character I didn’t find annoying was the short-time love interest (Italian boy). He was nice, reasonable and spoke about is feelings without getting a heart attack doing so.

Conclusion: I don’t hate the book, it’s nothing new I just wish authors would prefer giving their characters maturity than moving the plot along.

I wanted to try something different, this is my first read on the backdrop of the pandemic. I loved the concept, Knoxx and Emery have been friends for all of their life and she has been in love with him for half the time. Knoxx visits Em in Newyork and she makes a move on him disguised as the kiss your best friend challenge but he turns her down which actually gets streamed live, but the vibe between them became different.

As the pandemic broke out they are stuck together in her apartment, they tried to pretend the kiss never happened but soon they realise its fruitless.14 days they go through a plethora of emotions feelings, fights, hatching up etc I loved the friend group omg i would read this book all over again just to read the girl gang parts. Knox realised he was also in love with Em but he never knew the extent or the kind of love.

the dads are hilarious I loved this one, the grand gesture, the ellen part the quarantine part it was a really jolly read. Em is a writer and she uses many of the incidents that happened in their lives in her story (which is a crucial part of the book)the best part was that he read some of the romantic stuff she wrote (which never happened) and recreated them & she didn't suspect a thing, huh.

I LOVED this book!

I'm usually more of a fantasy and paranormal reader, but I enjoyed every second of this book. It has everything you need to keep the quarantine blues away, amazing girlfriends, hot love interest, snark and sass, humor, and sizzling love story! I loved all of the backstory with Embry and Knox. I loved their intertwined families. The pace was great and the characters were well developed. I never felt like the story was rushed and it was all just very organic. Loved the ending and I'm really hoping for the other girls' stories!! And please read the dedication, it made me laugh out loud! This was a fantastic debut into Contemporary RomCom by these two very talented authors! You wont regret picking this up, and you wont be able to put it down!

"You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take." Boy no truer words have ever been spoken!!

The characters were incredible. I enjoyed this wild, funny and delightful bunch of characters. Embry is the type of character that the real world girls only dream about, while Knox is every girl's wet dream. And Embry's friends were total riots and kept me entertained throughout the entire story.

The story-line was so enjoyable to read. With embarrassing scenes, to laugh out loud moments, to a pandemic that brings two amazing people closer together just made it that much harder to put down and I just couldn't help but read the story through in one sitting!! It's so fun and so fast paced, and it so made our real life pandemic disappear if only for a couple of hours and I highly recommend this read!!

Meh.
It was quick and available on Scribd.

She literally doesn’t understand how conversations work with people you’re friends with in the phone. She accused him of having a girlfriend in London because she heard a phone call where some woman said “I’m the best. You can tell me you love me” (Or something like that) And he replied “you know it”……. HOW. How do you misunderstand THAT as him having a girlfriend he’s “cheating on” when he kisses you…

It was frustrating at times. Many parts of it were cute and we got to have his jealous POV when her hot Italian chef neighbor brings her food and asks her out but their relationship wasn’t very believable for me because I didn’t vibe with her.

Fun and romantic!

Ah, so good! Embry and Knox are both funny and enjoyable characters who really make you care about them. Emy's girl hang is the absolute best, and the dads are awesome too.
I went from laughing to crying to laughing again, over and over. Got me all in the feels like nothing had in a while. Great book!!

Crush is right

This book had me as soon as Emy opened the door to Knox. If you are wanting book that will suck you in and just make you laugh out loud and feel good? Then you need to read this book.
I could not stop reading it once I started. When these two decide to write together... all bets are off and we the readers get all the benefits of their special brand of madness. And I for one feel lucky...
Go get start reading already

Haven't finished chapter 1 yet, but I already have a bad feeling about this book.
The situation where her nips got hard for no good reason happened too soon for my liking. I have a feeling if I continue reading I will find out that this is a sex driven romance. I like lots of sex in erotica but not in romance.

I liked the idea but I really wish I could get they few hours back I've just wasted.

Let's start with the 'best friends' ... they spend the entire book trying to convince us what amazing best friends they are, their friendship is so bad. They never tell eachother anything, they lie to eachother about their feelings, get embarrassed about absolutely everything, there's not one single honest moment between the two. They may be friends, but the way the author tries to portray how deep and life long their friendship is supposed to be, doesn't really match up with their actions, they come across as people who knew eachother in the past and talk now and then, not best friends.

I didn't feel like they had any chemistry at all, the scenes that were supposed to be intimate, felt forced and desperate. Emy (not sure of the spelling as I listened to the audio book) straight from the start made me cringe with how she spoke about him. It sort of came across as a cheap p*rno (not sure if I'm allowed to say that on here but oh well). I love the friends to Lovers Trope but since these 2 were never actually good friends and all she ever thought about was his d**k, it felt more like 2 horny teens than 2 adult friends falling in love.

Emys reaction to his conversation on the phone with his assistant, wearing all her sexy clothes, and going on a date with another guy just to get a reaction out of him, again all scream teenager, not an adult and certainly not a best friend.

I finally had some hope when they ended things and emys friends were there to support her through it, but 5 mins later they were back together and engaged.

The whole story felt so forced and I've lost count of the amount of times they said the words best friends, almost felt like the author had to keep reminding us because from their actions and the story, it really wasn't that obvious that they were even friends, until of course they told us again that they're best friends ... every few paragraphs. We should have been able to get that from the story without the need for the author to say it over and over again.

If it wasn't an audiobook I definitely wouldn't have finished it, but it was a quick read that distracted me while doing the housework so for that it gets 2 stars. I don't like to DNF books but sometimes I regret continuing. This was one of they times.

Oh .. one last thing .. flip flop? Really 😂 I get that the author couldn't say tiktok but flip flop seems a little lazy

When I see a collaboration between these two authors, I expect something that will be off-the-wall entertaining, will play with my heartstrings, and will have me laughing and crying, sometimes in the same scene. And that's what I found in this story. Knox is the clueless male we all know and can't help but love. And Embry is the woman who's ready to risk it all to find out if there could be more. A dare changes a relationship that could break when a virus has these two sheltering at home together for the foreseeable future.

As expected, there were tons of laughs and even more heartfelt moments in this story that centers around a couple who is stuck in quarantine together. Their relationship could take a fantastic turn or cause irreparable damage, and I am glad I tagged along for the ride. Stories like this are what will keep us positive through the difficulties we face in a world where the pandemic is all too real.

Wow, I could not put this book down & read it straight thru in one sitting. This book has all the "feels" that make for a good reading experience. I laughed, I cried, and all the other emotions in-between. I definitely recommend having some Kleenex on hand while reading, you won't need a lot, but there are some places that induce tears & cause some sniffles. It was definitely not ugly crying though. I hesitated to grab this book, as I was a bit "pandemic-ed" out- with it being so fresh in everyone's' mind. But I should have known better, the authors were able to pull this off, without dragging out more of the mind-numbing craziness of the pandemic- currently going down in the world. I loved Embrey & her crazy best girlfriends. And Knox, well he drove me nuts with his obliviousness. I think once he sorted himself out & realized he loved Embrey as more than just a best friend, he was great. I definitely enjoyed this book & recommend it.

I cannot remember the last time I have been so invested in a book. The shrieks, tears, outbursts, laughs, and more tears that came from me while listening to this....OH ❤️ MY ❤️ HEART!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take ❤️

@moxierosebooks Let me begin by saying I am not worthy of this amazing piece of literature. 🤣 Where do I even begin with my compliments?!
▪️The 90s/00s references
▪️The song choices
▪️The relatability of Embry's character
▪️THE PIE SCENE!
And the ending....I can't even attempt to express how much my heart exploded without spoiling it for others. Please just know...I jumped like crazy and cried like a baby, and am unbelievably jealous of Embry in that scene 😅❤️

This quite possibly is my favorite read of the summer this far! BRAVA LADIES!

Emy and Knox are both adorable and hot!! I laughed so much with Emy and her girlfriends!! I absolutely love them and need more.
I wasn't sure if I would have enjoyed going down memory lane with the pandemic, but gosh-it was such a fun read to get lost into.
I was laughing multiple times while listening to the audiobook, which I highly recommend. Dual narration really brought both Emy and Knox to life. I absolutely loved listening to both Virginia Rose, and Teddy Hamilton. I felt the emotions that Emy was feeling. Teddy truly breathed life into Knox's character.
This is a perfect romcom beach read, or if you're in a rut and need a break from your usual genre's. Grab this baby. The angst, tension, and a few spicy scenes are just fire!! Loved it!!

“Quarantine Crush” is a fun, heartwarming, story of besties stuck together in quarantine after an awkward moment. Authors Bam Shepherd and Heather Hildenbrand out did themselves with these characters. Emy and Knox have that great chemistry as main characters. Emy’s girl besties are the best and hilarious. Definitely girlfriends you want to have your back. Knox’s younger brother is one of the best supporting characters of the book. Christian had me laughing out loud at four in the morning. Overall this is a great story and as we are all going through the quarantine it brings it closer to reality. I highly recommend this book.
