When Remus can't sleep and heads to the familiar laundrette down the road at 3AM for the noise and comfortable sofas, he's certainly not expecting to have to comfort a beautiful black haired boy having a breakdown over a red glove in his white washing - but he does.
He's not expecting to fall into sickening, life-ruining love with him, either, but that happens as well.
[Highlights: FOUND FAMILY GALORE, lesbian and gay and bisexual rep!!!, some minor childhood trauma mentions, like one or two chapters and they have CWs, friendgroup merge/joint bestfriend custody, they all live, sweeter peter than canon, muggle uni AU, lang, lit, psych, computer sci, and art students, strangers to friends to lovers, not-so-secret relationship, lots of pop culture references]

This fic was really cute, ugh. I definitely did prefer the written parts to the texts but it was all really funny, and emotional when it needed to be. I love the mentions of Regulus and Sirius' sibling relationship and the rekindling of it. The Reggie/Sirius phone call had me fighting tears.
The only reason I'm not giving this a perfect 5-star review is that I felt that it dragged on a bit after they got together. But 4-stars is excellent and definitely nothing to fret over. The writing was funny and cute and witty, and the banter was fresh and just like realistic young-adult language. In other words, it didn't sound like a 54 year old dad trying to fit in and be hip with the youngsters.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually really liked the pop-culture references! There may have been an overwhelming amount of them but when you get 'em it's funny as hell.
By the way, this is pretty much closed-door, if you need to know that kind of thing. There's no actual spice just some heavy makeouts that you could skip easily and not miss much.
I actually am in love with this version of Sirius and Remus, and I wish canon had them be this happy :'')
i thought this fandom was fundamentally unable to write comfort fics,, IM SO GLAD TO BE WRONG THIS HEALED ME I WAS GIGGLING SINGING ROOTING KICKIN G MY FEET SMELLING DETERGENT i love them so muchh

mary was grinning so wide the whites of her teeth could blind someone; sirius was stood up, whooping and cheering obnoxiously, bringing all the attention to their table; james was clapping, except he was hitting his palms together so hard it sounded like thunder, and thus peter’s ridiculously stale exclamations of “oh my god really?” were near-drowned out, his jaw practically glued to the floor in such a satirical image it looked like something from a cartoon. remus was, himself, so focused on getting rid of his resting bitch face that he possibly, maybe overdid it a little bit too.
lily’s head was in her hands.
[…]
“it was all lily’s idea!” sirius blurted out, pointing at her, and her head snapped up.
“no it was not! it was yours!”
“okay, yes, but it would’ve worked if someone wasn’t trying to summon fucking thor here next to me!” sirius said, and james turned his head sharply.
“you prick - at least i didn’t scream at the top of my of my fucking lungs-“
“lily said to make a scene!”
“yeah, make a scene, not disrupt every sleeping child within a hundred mile radius-“
“okay, well peter didn’t even try, so-“
“you told me to pretend i had no clue!”
“that was the most sarcastic ‘i had no idea’ i’ve ever heard-!”
“mary’s smile was faker-“
“excuse you?! remus looked like we was in pain!”
“hey, why the fuck am i involved now-?!”
the table fell into, more or less, chaos; a series of voices overlapping with each other, fingers being pointed and voices unable to be depicted over the general buzz of accusations and defenses. marlene, dorcas, alice and frank sat quietly, witnessing the carnage.
Cute, cute, cute - fluffy, but kinda boring? (Pls dont hate me)
“Are you making a habit of doing laundry at 3am, then?” Remus asked, and Sirius bristled a little, blushing slightly. “Something like that, yeah,” he said, quietly. “I also, uh--I was trying to find you.”
“My bedtime is never. I don’t sleep.” Sirius paused. Remus saw him frown, and then slump a little and look back at him. “Is that why you come here? Because you don’t sleep?” Remus shrugged. “It was.” If Remus had thought Sirius’ cheeks had pinked earlier, he blushed full-on now, turning away and beginning to unload his clothes at a much more rapid speed.
(18: 43) sirius: just saw the cutest fucking dog otw home i need someone to share my joy (18: 46) remus: im a cat person (18: 50) sirius: ok fuck you then (18: 51) remus: NO COMW BACK I WANT TO SEE THE DOG
“Sirius?” Remus breathed after a moment. “Are you still tipsy?” Sirius’ smile widened, and he opened his eyes and stilled his hand, laying it to rest splayed over the back of Remus’ head. “No,” he said, mouth shaping the vowel and resting on it provocatively, and Remus bit his lip. That was that. It was hard to tell whether Sirius had pulled his head forward, or Remus had leaned in himself, but the distance that wasn’t really distance at all closed in a moment and their lips met, fervently, passionately.
“About fucking time, Moony,” he whispered through jagged breaths, rolling his hips and making Remus shudder. He pulled back, bringing his face nose-to-nose with Sirius’, his lips trailing painfully over the other’s. “What?” he whispered, reaching his free hand up Sirius’ hoodie and pressing his hands across his stomach, up, around, everywhere. Sirius moaned, and it was possibly the best sound Remus had ever heard. “Been waiting… so long…” he whispered, trailing his fingernails down the side of Remus’ neck and onto his chest, “for you to fucking kiss me already.”
(10: 07) lils: WOW I THOUGHT YOU HAD BEEN KIDNAPPED OR SOMETHIGN TURNS OUT YOU’RE JUST A WHORE (10: 07) remus: IM SORRYRRRIFHGFJ
“Well, you can have me now,” he murmured softly, “If you want me.” Remus smiled, and Sirius took a deep breath and rubbed a thumb over Remus’ forefinger. “Which… well you actually haven’t specified if you do want me--absolutely no rush, I just--” “The whole time,” Remus interjected, pushing a piece of Sirius’ hair behind his ears, and he smiled. “Even January?” he said mockingly, and Remus grinned. “Especially January.”
“Why are you texting me?” Sirius grinned and took a sip of his coke. “I wanted your attention.” Remus rolled his eyes and placed his phone face-down on the table. “You have my full attention. All the time. Like to a point where it’s kinda irritating.”
Remus would possibly never sleep in complete comfort, he had grown to accept that. What he could do, however, was lessen the load.
“He’s not like that with you,” he said, eventually, and Remus felt like his entire insides were spilled out for presentation onto the table. “He’s always thought if he showed people the whole him it would… scare them off, but never you. If anything it was the opposite.”
Remus had already established that Sirius was everything he wasn’t; he was a big ball of fire, and Remus had been basking in the flames without even contemplating the fact that he might have been taming them-no, not that-befriending them, the whole time. Learning to dance along to their rhythm; the fear of being scalded the absolute last thing on his mind.
He finished with a goofy smile, looking explicitly proud of himself, before turning to Lily to inevitably garner her approval. Her jaw had dropped slightly. Remus’ eyes flitted between them. There was a terse moment of silence. “How did I ever find this annoying?” Lily said, eyes locked on James. He flushed slightly and looked to the ground, and Remus felt the heaves of silent laughter from behind him. “Oi, say that fancy phono--thingy word again,” Sirius said. “Really get her going.” “Phonological loop?” James said innocently, gaze flicking to Sirius and back. Lily’s eyes practically darkened. “I am so attracted to you right now,” Lily said; the one drink she’d had had apparently emboldened her completely. “I--” James spluttered, eyes comically wide. Remus had never seen him quite so flustered; he could practically feel the panic. “I--er… I don’t really know what to do with that.”
His word was cut off as Lily took one plunged leap forwards and kissed him full on the mouth, hands gripping the sides of his head like they were the last thing anchoring her to earth. The sheer force was so much that James staggered back a step and slammed against the fridge.
“Relationships are fun, aren’t they? Say, Remus--” he turned to look at Remus, who gave him a warning glare that he wholeheartedly ignored, “--don’t you think relationships are fun? Got any going yourself?” “I--um, well--”
Even the brightest stars run out of energy to burn.
It clicked. A voice, hummed through the phone. His name. Sirius. “Hi,” Sirius said, slightly disbelieving, and the word was said in return. His name again. Sirius smiled; laughed; cried. “Hi, Reggie…”
“All you think about is the fact that it’s raining, and that it will continue to rain. You don’t think about when it’ll stop. You make yourself miserable because you don’t see the full picture.”
(16: 44) sirius (wachine boy( friend:’))): remus baby sweetheart angel (16: 44) romulus: yes? (16: 44) sirius (wachine boy( friend:’))): my love my treasure apple of my eye tide pod of my heart take the fucking hint (16: 45) romulus: LMFAOOOSKJERSKHDFNSE
“Hey,” he said, raising a shot glass. “Less alcohol consumed, less money spent. Think fast, talk smart.” “Says the richest one here. Ooh, wait,” she stopped, a glint in her eyes. “Let him get drunk fast and then we can spend his money on pizza.” “Jokes on you; I was already gonna buy it, bitch,” Sirius drawled, cocky smile on his face. “You can’t out-scheme the schemer, Marley.”
“But,” Remus said, pulling back. “You all have costumes. I don’t have one. Who am I supposed to be?” Sirius paused for a second, rubbing his hands over Remus’ shoulders. “You,” he said, “are Remus Lupin. All of the losers in there are fictional characters, but you’re the realest thing that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. You’re the protagonist of your own story.”
“There are no romantic moments,” he said, loudly, over the downpour. “Romanticism is a lie. There’s no rhyme or reason to how I love you. It wouldn’t be any different on the top of the Eiffel Tower as it was in the laundrette, or as it is here.” He smiled, licking the raindrops off his lips. “It’s just you, and me, and what we make of the world.”

super cute feelgood muggle uni AU. i have absolutely nothing negative to say about it but at the same time i have nothing exceptional to say about it either. it was just a light easy read between books and i greatly appreciate it for what it is: 100% fluff. generally i don't love modern AUs or any book with a bunch of pop culture references but i didn't feel that with this fic, it was actually really fun to imagine my favourite characters as gen z kids LOL. the only criticism i guess is some of the characters felt a bit flat? but i can't even fault the author for that considering they still managed to create a lovely slice of life story about characters with actually no canon personality so you know what KUDOS. overall i would give it like 3.8/5 stars we love a found family trope with a happy ending <3
Such a fun read with great characterization and flow. It’s an express ticket to a semester at uni with the Marauders extended gang, with how relatable and realistic the “newly-adults-and-in-college-figuring-shit-out” dynamics were.
The concept of Remus and Sirius’ meet-cute had me sold hook, line and sinker, and the author of this story truly delivered.
I wholeheartedly recommend, since it felt to me this fic had the perfect balance of college fun and hard life truths. Such a well developed story that will leave you with a feeling of growing warmth every time you’re reminded of this beautiful found family.
I LOVED THISSS. Its like the only wolfstar fic ever where they dont get in a fight and mess everything up. And it was so so so funny. I like couldnt read it in public because I was constantly smiling or laughing out loud. It was just so perfect 😭😭 And very much Jude too. Poetic passages and sometimes a little too much inner dialogue, but it's okay it was still very very good. It makes me want to have a friend group like theirs. So perfect. So fun. Just aaaaa. Yes. I love it.
Writing is BEAUTIFUL and soo so so easy to read through. I love the friendship formation and being able to romanticize college like this. The only thing is- I think they got together too fast. I had a hard time trying to get through the rest of the book the rest of the time because it was pure fluff.
