When people looked at Austin King, they thought he had everything. And he did…once. Shelby was his everything, his world. Sure they were young, but it didn’t matter. He knew in his gut, he knew it with everything they were meant to be. People told him all the time he was out of his mind, no one married their first girlfriend, but they were wrong– or so he thought.

As soon as Austin got the chance of a lifetime, Shelby was gone. Sure he was living it up in the hottest band out there, but all the fame and money meant nothing without her. It felt more like a tragedy.

When a tornado rips their hometown apart, Austin runs home to help out. It doesn’t matter that he’s been avoiding the place like the plague. His family needs him. The moment he sees Shelby, all the reasons he’s stayed away suddenly don’t matter. One look in her haunted eyes, and he knows he’s made a big mistake. He thought that by staying gone, he was making her happy, but he had been wrong. He didn’t care how many times she told him they didn’t work, he knew they were perfect for each other. She might be stubborn, but he was determined to win her back. That’s why he wasn’t leaving until they got their encore.

There is a saying “If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don't, they never were.”? That’s exactly what Shelby did with Austin. They were only 16 years old and Shelby was the one that encouraged Austin to try out for the singing talent show Supernova. When Austin ended up in second place a band approached him to join them. Shelby could see how the long distance relationship wasn’t working out and she knew she couldn’t hold Austin back from the chance of a lifetime.

Of course with the frame comes the downside and that’s with the tabloid headlines making Austin the bad boy of the group. He was trying to live up to that label with heavy drinking and different women regularly in his bed. Now five years later they find themselves back in the same town again. Austin was brought back home after a tornado went through destroying everything. Austin’s sister was hurt and his mother was severely injured. Austin wasn’t the only one who lost something that day, Shelby lost her brother-in-law and the only family she had left being her sister, Anna, was now in a coma fighting for her life. Just being in the presence of each other again brought back the same feelings that had never actually left either of them. But what was the different this time and how would it work with Austin being on the road and living in LA with Shelby still living in their hometown? How does the small town librarian fit into the life of a famous rock star living in LA?

This was a great rock romance, second chance read. I couldn’t put this book down because it took me in and kept me hooked until the very end. I’d love to see a story on Dani and Nate!

Sorry, but I just couldn't finish this book. After 38% I decided to stop. Neither the writing nor the characters did it for me. I'm truly sorry, but the way it was written is just not for me 😢

It was a good read. I did have trouble connecting with the characters. I liked Austin but I just couldn’t like Shelby. She did a good thing by breaking up with Austin so he can pursue his dream but other than that, I found her annoying. I do enjoy second chance romances and that was what redeemed it for me.

~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Five years ago Austin started a new life away from his hometown and the only woman he has ever loved and followed his dreams. Now when a disaster strikes his family he returns home and keeps running into Shelby the only woman who had the power to hurt him. Shelby's life has been nothing of loss and pain, now her family is facing more. When she comes face to face with Austin she knows she needs to stay away but something about him keeps pulling her in. I loved Austin and Shelby's story, so much loss has been suffered and I love a second chance at love story. In their story I think it is more of their love was put on hold. The other bandmates are great too; Nate, Wil and KT. This is an emotional journey of second chances and I can't wait to read the next story in this series. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
*I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review*.
Austin is a rocker who lives in LA but returns home after a five year absence. While he’s home he runs into Shelby, the girl who got away. Lots happens along the way but they do get their happy ending!
It does seem a little long and there is a lot going on and some things never really get addressed. For example, I feel it just gets glazed over that Shelby lost her brother-in-law and also, her accident where she hurt her hip never really gets explained. All the conflicts are short and wrapped up within a few pages which doesn’t make me really invested in the plot.
Overall, this book was sweet and gave me all the butterflies in my stomach. All in all a satisfying read.
Encore by Emily Robertson a five-star read that deserves multiple encores. This is the first book in the Love and Harmony series and I can’t wait for the next book!! The characters are amazing the main pair Austin King from heart-throbbing band Innominate and small town local library girl Shelby Peterson couldn’t have been more opposite, he lives in the lime light and she broke his heart five years ago knowing that she didn’t want to be in the light. When tragedy strikes and a tornado breaks lives apart they are pulled back together, but they won be able to follow the yellow brick road, the lime light was too bright once upon a time, will it be any less bright now?
The thing with this book is that it’s not just the main pair, there are other characters like Anna Shelby’s sister and Dani Austin’s sister they have great qualities and give you some great background info and make you care about the characters when you see the story develop your heart will break alongside the people who are in the town of Horace. But will a storm blow over and leave behind a clean slate that will put you back together? Thank you Emily Robertson for such amazing writing, now hurry up and write the next story!!
Austin and Shelby rekindle their relationship after 5 years apart when a tornado brings Austin back home to Nebraska from his rock star life in LA.
Austin was a genuine, lovable character who, despite his glamorous new lifestyle, stays true to his roots. He loves his family and for the most part doesn't let the life of a rock star get to him.
Shelby pushed Austin to compete in a music competition that he wasn't really invested in only to later resent him for his success.
Overall I liked this book, however, there were a few hangups for me. Number one being that Shelby is just too down on herself. A little extra weight being the parting gift from an accident, she never lets you forget it. I found this to be annoying and detracting from the story. A little self-consciousness gives a character depth in her flaws, too much though and I found myself rolling my eyes at her weakness. I loved Austin, but I think he tried so hard to make her believe she was beautiful when she so clearly didn't and in the end it detracted from his appeal.
Yes, I am critical, but I can also recognize that this is a love story and like many women looking to fall in love with the man of her dreams, I fell in love with Austin. Hence the four star review. When a book can make me waste a few precious minutes of my morning routine before work, well, it's probably going to get a decent review. ;)
There were a few minor mistakes that another look from a good proofreader would help fix and would definitely clean things up nicely to remove that distraction. Nothing distracts me more and ruins the mood than a missing word or wrong word usage.
3.5 stars.
My rating and review won’t be all that great for the fact that this story didn’t connect with me other then the weight issue and the self esteem problems Shelby and I have on a daily basis.
Starts out when Shelby and Austin is 16 (Austin ‘s POV). Then years later, Austin is living the rock star life (singing and the perfect women). Tornado levels their home town and he’s involved with Bren but it’s not love it’s basically all about sex with the two and to tee off his father. Shelby is also in a relationship with Colby and it’s not even what I would call a good pairing, they are not perfect for each other and he’s controlling jerk. I’d wish that the accident was more described with how it happened instead of just being mentioned as a after thought like how it happen or what caused it. I liked how the band accepted Shelby as part of the group and as Austin’s girl without being but heads like some band are. I’m a bit shocked when Shelby faced her fear when Bren showing up out of the blue, she went from hurt to anger then resolved until Austin explained his feelings then Shelby and Bren got to talking and became instant friends, with no animosity between them. Shelby became the bigger women and felt with her insecurities until her first trip to L.A. and meeting a mean girl in the guy’s apartment and her strength weakened when she read the tabloids that caused a rift between the lovers. I liked the book but I still felt like I’m missing more then I realized. If I would to read more it might be Dani’s and Nate story to find out who the father of her daughter is and her once a month trips with her daughter, but others I probably won’t I didn’t get the connection with the other band mates
Rarely do I begin a book and quit because I'm frustrated in the H. I made it through chapter 4 before I couldn't take it anymore. Austin King is a clueless rockstar who starts out on top of the world but finds himself existing with either bad luck or a total loss of memory. In high school, his one and only girlfriend, Shelby, encouraged him to go after his dream instead of staying behind with her. He did what she encouraged him to do and now he's famous, but he's a real jerk. The minute he made it big, it was all about living it up with other women and he never gave Shelby another thought. He's accused of being a father, but he doesn't remember sleeping with the woman. When he finds out he's not the father and the mother knew he wasn't the entire time, he's not really mad. It gets worse. He doesn't want to be involved with a second woman, but his body hasn't gotten the message. Oh, and he hates his old man so much that he decides to sleep with her, even though she's barely out of high school, because it will piss him off! Living it up as a rockstar? Having a good time? Still hasn't thought about the woman he left behind and gave him his push toward stardom. Enough of this "romance". I cannot recommend.
This is not your typical rockstar romance! This book is raw, real and gritty and gives you all the feels. From the very beginning there was just something so appealing about Austin. Yes, he didn't do relationships with women but he was still a really good guy and you could tell he was genuine and heartfelt. Shelby is not your typical character you see in books and I really appreciated that. I found her to be really relatable. She faced a number of insecurities throughout the novel and had a curvy body that she was sometimes uncomfortable with but Austin loved her all the same! Honestly, this whole book was really refreshing. The whole band was not just band mates, but they were family and looked out for one another throughout the novel. Austin jumped through hoops to prove to his high school love that he could be the man for her and Austin and Shelby faced really challenging moments together and came out on the other side stronger. The novel has a lot of hard hitting moments in it and the storyline is captivating and engaging. I didn't want to put this book down. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!
This is book one in The Love and Harmony Series and it is Austin and Shelby's story and it is a must read. Austin and Shelby were high school sweethearts and really in love but when Austin made it big in the music industry that is when everything came to a head between them and they separated as they would be in different directions in there life. Five years later and a hurricane rips through Austin's hometown having devastating consequences so he decides to go and help even though he has avoided going back because of all that he had lost there but when he sees Shelby again he knows that he is not giving up on a second chance with her as there connection and chemistry between them is still as strong as ever but how will it all turn out for them as there situation is still the same with where they live. Wow this was a really great second chance romance and I can't wait to read the next book. Emily Robertson certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and I have enjoyed every single book that I have read by her as they are so well written and definitely worth reading.
A passionate second chance romance!
Encore is the first book in the new Love and Harmony series. This story tells the love story of Austin and Shelby. Even though life happens, things change, sometimes love is giving another chance. Even though they fight their attraction and feelings, love has the potential to win. It is a story that will break your heart and make you smile while going through the journey of hardships and love.
Encore is a well-written story; a perfect to story in the Love and Harmony series. The author did a great job of adding plenty of action and passion to keep my interest throughout the whole book. The characters are well developed and engaging. Emily’s writing is top-notch and the storyline is entertaining and full of passion.
This is one of several books that I have read by Emily Robertson and will certainly not be my last. I have yet to be disappointed! I recommend Encore to anyone that enjoys reading romance that will keep you entertained and pull at your heartstrings repeatedly.
This is the first book in the series and what a start it is! I was sucked straight into the story and was taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions and spat out at the end. This is a second chance love story but the road to true love is never straight, Austin and Shelby both have moments of highs and lows in this story, some bring a tear to your eye but all the way through this book you can feel the love between them. I was fully invested in them as a couple and was rooting for them to get their happy ever after from the start, I loved Austin’s band mates, they enhanced the story and I can’t wait to read their stories. The story flows well and keeps you on the edge of your seat, I loved that we get a glimpse of the past and that we got to see Austin and Shelby fall in love all over again.
This is another great read from this author, I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Emily Robertson has totally got me hooked on her brand new rocker series, Love and Harmony. the little chapter intros were just so cool, and I thought it added a special touch to the manuscript.
I connected with Austin immediately. And even though he had his up and down moments, I still loved him. When he had to return home unexpectedly, my heart was ripped from my chest. There was so much heart and soul put into those scenes, I just wanted to scoop him up and love him.
When he's reunited with his childhood sweetheart, I pulled for them so hard because he and Shelby deserved that second chance to fall in love again.
Robertson is a brilliant story teller and I'm so excited for this series. it's going to be hard to wait for each book to come out. She knows how to suck you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat til the very end. I love Austin and Shelby!!
Encore is the first in the Love and Harmony new adult series by Emily Robertson. Austin and Shelby's story may seem like your run of the mill Rock Star story but it is so much more. Shelby was Austin's first love, his rock and the reason why he pursued music in the first place. But once things started heating up for Austin's career, Shelby didn't think she could deal with the "in your face" attention that was being received and broke things off. Fast forward a few years and a tragic event throws them into each other's paths again but despite past feelings, they have a tough time letting each other in again. This story is more than second chance. It delves into body image, self respect, domestic abuse both physical and mental, tremendous loss and above all, coming together to achieve a common goal. I enjoyed the story and NEED to know more about what is going on in Dani's life!
Shelby and Austin were high school sweethearts but they had different dreams for the future so when Austin had the opportunity to become a professional musician she ended their relationship and she is the town librarian.
Five years later Austin is part of the band Innominate and has the bad boy reputation to go along with it. He has returned home to help his family after a tornado ripped through town and the feelings between them are stronger than ever. Will this be their second chance at love or are their lifestyles too different and are they destined for heartbreak once again?
I enjoyed the first story that I have read by this author. I liked how supportive Austin was towards Shelby and the secondary characters added another level to the story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I typically don’t like third person point of view in books, but the way that Shelby & Austin’s story was written; I couldn’t help be drawn in. Right from the beginning, it was an emotional roller coaster. I liked that I wasn’t even 30% in and I was overwhelmed by emotions. It surprised me. It has been a while since a book that made me feel so much in a short amount of time.
I loved Austin! Yes he made some mistakes, but he did what was right for his family. Austin wouldn’t give up Shelby no matter what it cost him. Totally swoon worthy!
Oh Shelby! Shelby has been through a lot in her 21 years. And I felt for her. I’m glad that she was able to feel more confident as the story progressed.
Austin & Shelby together is everything! I loved their banter & their chemistry.
I would definitely read more by Emily Robertson in the future.
Don’t we all want someone to fight FOR us instead of WITH us?
When up and coming rockstar Austin King comes second in a reality song contest, little does he know just how much his world is about to change. Always by his side has been Shelby. But when she realises she would only be holding him back, she lets him go, and breaks both their hearts.
Years later, tragedy will bring these two back together. Can Austin prove to Shelby that she is his ONE? Can Shelby trust her heart and give her all to Austin?
A lovely written story that will have you turning the pages late into the night.
Although some questions still remain after reading, mainly about Shelby’s past, I’m glad I took a chance on an author I’ve never read or heard of before. I will definitely read another novel by Emily Robertson
The characters are brilliant and sweet Austin King is in the band Innominate and got there by winning a local singing contest that went on to a talent show and local librarian Shelby Peterson couldn’t live more opposite lives. He is famous and constantly in the lime light where as she is the one who broke his heart five years ago, she wanted him to be successful and knew he would be but little did he know she broke her own heart by letting him go. When a tornado goes through his home town lives are torn apart but they are pulled back together but will they be able to follow their hearts a second time or will the fears override everything ?????????
This book has so many other great characters that they give you the background history and make you want to care about the characters. You can actually see all their pride and strength whilst rebuilding, such a great read.
High intensity reading, not just of the romance, but of situations and some events that are completely out of anyone's control. A heartfelt tale that wrings your heart out for every drop of blood and then pumps your heart back up again to overflowing. The title of this novel is "Encore" but it also could have been titled "Endure". Wow! Just so emotional of a journey when undertaking to read this novel. So worth it to take the time to read, for everyone. This is much, much more than a romance, a rock star rising, family - albeit by blood or by heart, it is about raw life moments that can occur to anyone.
Great must read! Highly recommended!!
Oh I loved this, second chance romance for childhood sweethearts. Austin was encouraged by his girlfriend Shelby to enter a talent competition and he did it for her, she had so much faith in him. When he didnt win, life actually took a turn for the better, and he was given the opportunity to join an existing band.
Austin's music career took off, but Shelby wasn't prepared to move states and start a new life in LA, so she let him go. It really hurt both of them.
Fast forward 5 years and a disaster takes Austin back home, somewhere he had avoided until now so that he wouldn't be reminded of what he'd lost. That's when he bumps into Shelby. Life had changed for them both, and in turn, they had both changed. One thing hadn't though, their feeling for each other!
Lovely story, with some dramas along the way.
Overall, Encore by Emily Robertson was an enjoyable read. I liked the premise of second chance love. I was not immediately enamored with the characters, though. I had a hard time feeling connected to both the hero and heroine. He was not very likeable. She obviously had huge self-esteem issues which allowed to settle in an abusive relationship. It was hard for me to relate to him or feel his connection to her.
However at some point in the story, a switch flipped and I was rooting for Austin and Shelby to work things out. They needed to be together. I wanted them to get to a place where they could appreciate each other and enjoy the love which was obviously present between them.
I always appreciated the relationships of Austin with his bandmates. These young men had each other's backs and were true fiends through thick and thin. I also loved the family dynamics between Austin, his mom, and siblings.
Even though I struggled with the disjointed beginning chapters of this story, Emily Robertson pulled the story together and had a strong finish. I will read the rest if the books in this series, because there seemed to be some interesting stories brewing with the boys in this band.
This was my first read from this Author (Thank you Blind-date with a book) and I really liked it. I was hooked from beginning to end. I will admit I was slightly unsure going into it as rockstar romances are not one of my favourite tropes but I honestly did enjoy this one and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
Shelby and Austin were high school sweethearts until he got his big break in the music industry and joined a boy band. To allow him to follow his dream Shelby set him free and he barely looked back. Years later when a tornado rips his hometown apart and his family are hurt he flies back to see what he can do to help and finds himself again.
After spending time together the old feelings resurface and are even stronger then before but this time Austin will not let her get away, he will fight for what he wants. Maybe this time he can have both worlds.
Can't wait to read book 2 in this series
I love the way this author writes a story and how she uses her characters so well to bring it to life. This story has so much depth and so many different things to keep you invested in not only the characters but all of the action as well. These two needed skills they had only used to help others and never used to voice for themselves. They learn and use those skills to make their second chance work. Their friends and family help out along the way and are a great addition to the story. Family, support, guidance, compromise, angst, and sorrow all pour out of the pages as this author does so well. My heart broke over and over in different ways for different reasons all that from this wonderful emotional read.
This book was so down to earth. I love rock star books and second chances. It was the best of both worlds for me. Austin and Shelby have had a rough past. When tragedy strikes Austins life, Shelby’s life is set into turmoil too. Meeting your past again is always hard but seeing your past love is the hardest when you still love them. Austin is such a great boy. He loves his family to pieces. His mom, brother, sister and niece are so important to him. Its just one thing he has in common Shelby. She fits right into his family well, too well she always thought. The things that tore them apart, can they be fixed after all these years? I can see so many possible storylines coming from this book! I can’t wait to read and find out what the next installment has in store for us. Enjoy!
This book was AMAZING! I’m going to say this book gave me major Forever my girl vibes but I liked the way this one was done more! I didn’t put it down, I read the whole book in one sitting and I’m happy to say that that is because I was ADDICTED to the story! I am SO glad there’s more to this series. I’m disappointed that I didn’t know about it until I received it as a blind date with a book from “the romance fix” Facebook page. I loved that it also had a bigger girl in it so that it would show the insecurity’s they face. The fact that she ended up with a rockstar was awesome as well!
This story is the before explanation for “If you love something let it go, if it comes back it’s yours!”
What a beautiful story! I can’t want to read the rest of the series!
I absolutely loved this book by Emily. The characters in this story are fantastic! I truly can’t say enough positive thing about them. They have so much depth to them, you literally can feel their empathy for Austin as he returns home to help his mother and sister rebuild their homes from the storm. As the same time you most definitely can see his love for Shelby when they come face to face again after five years.
Austin is totally shocked to see Shelby again, but also realizes that this is his second chance to get it right. He isn’t simply going to walk away again. This time he’s going to fight for Shelby, he’s not losing this time...This time Shelby will be his for keeps. Ready or not...Austin’s coming for you Shelby...
Austin entered a singing contest because his girlfriend, Shelby, persuaded him, he was only sixteen and didn't win but it changed his life. Then there was a tornado in his home town, so he goes back.
His mother and sister are injured and in hospital, so is Shelby's sister, they bump into each other at the hospital. Shelby has a boyfriend but he's not at all nice. He's not supportive and as she has low self esteem she thinks that's all she's worth.
Austin has never forgotten Shelby, although he's been with lots of girls, hes never had a relationship. He thinks as he's back he wants her back too.
But will Shelby fit into his LA life? Can he move back home?
A great read from Emily. Whose story is next?
