First Cassie Mint book and it was great! I’ll definitely be continuing on with her ‘Big Boys’ novella series. This one has an age gap and was sweet, steamy, and a lot of fun. I loved that there was some build up between Jacob and Daphne before they got together.

It’s a little bit weird because I feel like this novella did everything right, but I didn’t really connect to the story as much as I would've liked, if that makes sense. I was interested by the beginning, the premise, the age gap but, something was missing in the end. It was still enjoyable, just not what I was expecting.
Daphne was meek, innocent and gentle. Truthfully, she was a little bit forgettable. I usually love sweet personalities like that but she came off a little bit boring to me. The only thing that I somewhat liked was the fact that she was able to initiate some of the interactions that she had with Jacob. She was supposedly a music student who played piano, but it was kind of just mentioned. I personally think that this information should’ve been exploited a little bit more. It was interesting that Daphne admitted her crush to her bestfriend, Jacob’s daughter. It avoided some awkwardness, even if there was slight drama near the end, understandably.
Jacob was okay. He was slightly obsessed with Daphne, but I didn’t understand where that obsession came from. The guy barely ever talked to her in the three years that they’ve known each other. He even said that when Daphne would eat lunch with his daughter and him, he would just avoid looking at her. I just didn’t understand where the passion came from. I liked that he was insecure about his appearance and his age, it gave him a sort of vulnerability.
Overall, it wasn’t bad at all, especially for a quick read. It did the job. I think the story could’ve used maybe two more chapters to wrap up nicely; I felt that this ending was a little bit too rushed for my liking. There wasn’t much in the steam department even though the scenes were well done.

Cassie Mint is like Jesse Kane if JK took her meds. This book was a short steamy snack but I prefer my taboo reads to be slightly more unhinged. I needed more crazy.

And I liked the way things were written.
The couple other ‘burly’ men type books I’ve read had a weird fetish kind of undertone that gave me the ick.

Daphne goes home with her best friend for Christmas. She’s always had a crush on her besties dad to the point that they make jokes about it. He’s huge and hot and she has had a crush on his since she met him. While they might joke, Daphne’s crush is real and when she gets the opportunity to finally act on it she does. Will her friend be ok with it?
Honestly this was a bit of a mess. I picked this up because I wanted another bigger hero and I heard it recommended along with the other one I read. I went into this confused thinking it was a dads best friend but it was best friends dad which threw me for a loop for a second. Though I’m not really sure I’m a fan of either of those tropes 😂 This was an age gap romance but I didn’t mind it as much since she was in her 20s and graduating college. I also liked that this wasn’t a childhood best friend bc that would have been creepy and grooming. I get that novellas will be instalovey to an extent but this was to the max. I honestly would have preferred it if he wouldn’t have claimed to have been in love with her seeing as they hadn’t really spoken the three years they knew each other. I plan on continuing with the Big Boys series bc this was still quick and entertaining.

Big Boss by Cassie Mint is an age gap instalove novella that I listened to on audio narrated by Bryant Walker and Cecily Foster.
I really enjoyed the fast-paced romance between Jacob and Daphne. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.
Bryant and Cecily did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this novella if you like forbidden romances, age gap romances, or instalove romances.
