J.R. Finn's mission to assassinate a troublesome militia leader becomes a quest for revenge.
His target in his sights, Finn is squeezing the trigger when his intended victim collapses. An unknown sniper has shot the target. Finn and his partner, Mary O'Brien, go looking for the other sniper.
During their search, Mary learns that a former associate wants to hire her. Until Mary verifies the man's identity, she believes he died years before in a drug war in the Bahamas. Once she's in touch with him, he tries to recruit her to join an assassination squad.
Suspicious of the timing, Finn and Mary seek a connection between the two events. What they learn has dire implications for the survival of democracy in the U.S.
Perfect for fans of tropical thrillers, Sin and Redemption will keep you turning pages until the end.

Sin and Redemption is another hit in Finn and Mary’s adventures! This is one of my favorites as we see the characters develop and Finn’s daughter makes an appearance. Bravo Charles and David to this fabulous book!
What’s this book about? Finn and Mary, both assassins and lovers, are on a mission when things don’t go as planned. Things really take a turn when Mary’s past resurfaces close to Finn’s daughter, Abby. I loved this story as we get part of the puzzle that is Mary’s past, Finn’s daughter comes around, and it’s an all around a entertaining story. Some might complain that the majority took place on land and not enough sailing (yes, there is some), but I enjoyed it and honestly it might be my favorite one in the series to date.
And another favorite of mine is the narrator, David Bosco. He gives the characters all a voice and style of their, flow is perfect, and adds to the overall enhancement of the story. If you haven’t listened to one of his books, I highly recommend you give one a try even if it’s not your typical listen.
Overall, I highly recommend this series. Make sure to start from the beginning or you’ll miss important details. I assure you once you start, it will be difficult to put down.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Finn and Mary are assassins, I shouldn’t need to say this but...expect things like death/talk about hits, weapons or talk of, bad people doing bad things, and so on. Language used: Sx21
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
Finn & Mary have a personal relationship whilst being a team of Assassins who “take out” those who just need killing. In this “ episode” they remove three serious scumbags while encountering a few speed bumps in their personal relationship. We also begin to get to know Finn’s daughter, Abby and her college roommate, Judy It is a lively and sometimes convoluted stand alone story, but for the very best appreciation of this series, I strongly recommend that other readers start at the beginning and thoroughly enjoy the ever growing relationship between Finn and Mary.
Seems strange to be anxious for the next adventure of a couple of assassins, but, like all Dougherty books, they’re a great read and hate that they end all too soon. Soooo good!
Another good read !!! Looking forward to the next book. Every time I read Dougherty there is another place for me to sail to in my near future. The story line keeps the reader entertained with two characters that seem normal until its time for business then...
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are mine.
This is the ninth book in the series - technically it is a standalone story but so much has happened in the eight previous books (even though the author does provide some quick summaries of previous events) that to do this series justice, you need to start with the very first one.
Here, Finn is starting to develop a relationship with his daughter Abby, while he and Mary are on a job in Florida. Usually when the MCs are assassins, spies, etc., usually they are loners but having Finn and Mary deal with some family dynamics really makes their characters more interesting and not so black and white. Additionally, Mary is going through a bit of a personal crisis, causing her to turn to therapy for some help, which I found to be really unique in this genre.
As to the job Finn and Mary are tasked with accomplishing, while I found it to be interesting and very much out of current events, to me, it seemed like there was less action and twists but more conversation about event. This did not detract from my enjoyment of this story and I look forward to the next book in the series.
David Bosco, the narrator for all of the books in this series, is just terrific. I cannot imagine the voice of Finn being anyone else.
This ninth installment of the Finn sailing mystery series is a bit unusual from previous. That is not to say it's bad, or inferior, just a bit different.
For starters, compared to other books, there's really not much sailing in this one. A few episodes both heartwarming, and even"down and dirty". But again, it's all good.
Next, the main protagonist is Finn's partner and girlfriend, Mary. She is the main driver of the story, and that gives us a chance to know her much better. A welcome change of pace, I would say. Even more so because we see a softer, gentler side of her. She is the "redemption" part of the title.
The "sin" part is more complicated. There are assassinations, at just the right time and circumstances. But then those people "needed killing". You can decide whose bears the "sin".
The other really good thing about this book is the relevant timing of the story. The fall of Afganistan and the Taliban take over of August 2021 is part of the plot. Now THAT is relevant timing!
I really liked this book and would heartily recommend it Top notch al the way!
Been a little while since reading the last book. This one just went round and round too much, too much conversation and not enough action. My opinion might be skewed due to the fact I just had a total hip replacement and on drugs!!!
Another great book that keeps your interest and all that ends with the ocean receiving another body that Finn and Mary keep the fish happy and fed..ciao fro. Costa Rica..
