The amount of nights I’ve read this book curled up in a ball crying is beyond me. Although I love my beaten up beauty, Amy (my very own amsco book), I find that my back and brain are happy to set her down and say goodbye. This book has taught me many things, but I still say when in doubt mention enlightenment. Prior to this time period, I knew not of multinational corporations and Mansa Musa— I was a simple girl, with no historical smartness.
Amy, thank you. Thank you for the tears and your broken spine. Thank you for your fallen pages and ripped covers.
the wretched read is over! rate + updated review to come out when i take the ap test/receive my score also heimler>this book so im using that to study instead
This book is a work of art. The perfect 8 month read. This book took all my free time away and had an astronomically beautiful amount of vocab. Amsco I will cherish you forever. You were the root of all my problems.

this book sucks. it’s ugly, it tears bc it’s paperback, and it’s heavy. wayyy too much information, I didn’t need half of that for the actual exam. thanks for the back pain, should’ve just watch Heimler’s History instead tbh 🥲
I would like to meet the writers of this book and personally kick them where the sun don’t shine and then wack them over the head with this book. If that doesn’t tell you what the book is like, I don’t know what will.
I love a good slowburn romance enemies to lovers. WAR IS OVER!!!!!! Is it possible to give this book negative stars. Worst class I’ve ever taken in my life this class took YEARS off my life and I’ll be leaving this class with less sanity than I entered with
enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, miscommunication between the USSR and the US was very enjoyable. very sad most of the spice was a fade to black except for when the ottoman and safavid empire did fuck during the Battle of Chaldiran. Overall very underwhelming.
This book is very special for me. Once I ordered this book and started reading it, my grade in AP World History improved tremendously. I even took this book once on a vacation during the winter to study for AP World History. The content is explained in a straightforward manner and the practice questions help to reinforce the concepts. I can say with certainty that this book helped me earn an A in the class and a 5 on the AP exam. Keep in mind that this was also my first AP class.
Just finished never again. This has been the best worst semester ever and I will never forget the pain but will definitely forget the material. Good luck to future me during the exam I don't think I'll make it. To my teacher, sorry for annoying the crap out of you. To my trusty book, sorry for beating you up. To my brain, you weren't there in the first place. Although there are many people and things to thank, the real champion of this course was... CHAMPA RICE. May you forever grow. 🕊️
SPECIAL MENTION:
Thank you to Heimler for the all the information needed to cram into my nonexistent brain folds before tests. Thank you for also being there for me when I was having mental breakdowns about DBQs. May the champa be with you.
Thank you to my smarter friends who carried me through this course and spent time with my craziness yapping about the weirdest stuff, singing made up songs, and holding a teachers conference in a Davannis party room.
EDIT:
The exam is this Thursday... I'm so nervous omg 🤦♀️ I am not excited to sit in a cafeteria for 4 1/2 hours in complete silence, only hearing clicking keyboards and silent tears. Personally I will be crying...
EDIT AGAIN:
I did in fact get a 5!! Subtle flex but I have no idea how that magically happened... Me and my friends are ALL academic ottoman empires before their decline (iykyk wink wink)! Praying for APUSH to go well...
I want to read fanfiction about Akbar the Great x reader
This book was pretty educational I guess and I did in fact read all of it and get a five on the exam so thanks AMSCO pookie. Five star book but if I start seeing this john up there next to evelyn hugo and T3 (both of them) I might have an aneurysm so that's why I gave it 3
honestly awful. repeats itself so many times and is just so bland. also it’s like super western / colonial oriented which is funny bc this course was created to diversify AP history classes. the class was fun tho!
This book made me cry so many times. The writing surrounding the early settlements was so beautiful an- I HATE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. APWH IS SO HARD AND IVE LOST SO MUCH SLEEP TO THIS BOOK 😭
This book is difficult to summarize without basically writing a whole other book, so I'll try to keep this down to the bare essentials. The author relies heavily on the shifting perspectives from character to character in order to first establish each character and their motivations and then show how that motivation changes throughout the interactions between each character. I personally think that this is a great choice, as it allows the author to explore each character in greater detail. However, it does mean that the book is more of a slow burn, without much interesting happening until the later acts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it means that a lot of ideas are set early in the story and pay off well later, however, it does make that first part of the book really tough to get through if you aren't accustomed to longer and slower stories. Later in the book, the numerous Chekhov's Guns set in the first act are paid off, but it takes a very long time for that to happen. Again, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it allows for more buildup, but it does contribute more to a very slow read. The one major criticism I have is the pedantic nature of the storytelling. Unimportant details, such as the names of characters that are never brought up again, or a setting where a single inconsequential battle occured, are mentioned so unbelievably often. This wouldn't usually bother me if it weren't for the fact that the book already progresses at a slow pace. I'm all for detailed worldbuilding, especially in a setting so complex as this, but at a certain point, it stops becoming worldbuilding and starts to become exessive information for the sake of it, which I can't stand. It's a great book, and you can tell there's some real passion put behind it, but the author definitely got a bit too carried away with the level of detail included, leading to a slow pace that feels almost impossible to get through at times.
