The stance on rape in this book is... interesting. Sex is a main theme of the story (though no sex is actually had). The main character's ONLY reason for not raping women is that it is illegal for him to do so.

In this book, the law IS morality. Following a code or set of rules is what makes someone noble, regardless of what those rules are. Criminals are portrayed as worthless scum and the rule-following orc characters (all of whom, except for our main character have raped women) are portrayed as noble.

There is a theme of tolerance in the book. The humans and orcs, after literally centuries of war, have to learn to understand one another. This would be sweet except one of these cultural differences the orcs have to learn to respect is not raping women. When women calmly explain to the orcs that rape is degrading to them, the orcs go along with it and are portrayed as open-minded--but of course, when a woman is dragged away by an orc, kicking and screaming, he never stops to think about whether or not it's degrading to her. I'd almost call that a plot hole.

The book has shallow characters and shallow world building (the latter based entirely off of hentai tropes) which is sad because I thought the art for our hero, Bash, was appealing and I was actually interested in watching a closed-off, scary warrior fall for someone. It's a quick and easy read.

From the title, one might be led to believe that this series is some very niche type of pornography. In reality, it’s a fairly typical fantasy adventure story. It's written by the author of the legendary Mushoku Tensei series, which without too much exaggeration could be called Japan’s Lord of the Rings. Orc Erotica (I feel a bit silly writing out the name) so far lacks the epic scope of Mushoku Tensei but it is well written and has a lot of potential.

⭐1 - hated it with the passion of a thousand suns.

This was dumb. And not like 'The Scorpion King' dumb, which is still enjoyable. Just dumb. I can't see how anyone could enjoy this. Normally I don't like yukking on someone's yum but in this case... I don't even feel bad about it.

There are way better stories out there that handle humor and taboo things so much better.

So dumb. I just wanted a dumb Himbo Orc.

The only other thing I sorta see as a positive point is that all orcs love babies. At least I assume they do because I can tell you, you shouldn't leave your babies in the hands of the people you forced to have them.

@page 25
I thought this would be some silly story about a thirsty orc trying to get rid of his virginity. A bit like the Scorpion King 2. Not very plausible or good but still a good time.

It's not.

By page 20 I've read so much euphemisms for what is essentially just raping women (and only them) that I was almost impressed.

By page 25 I feel like DNFing because of this lovely sentence: "Or a female warrior of such skill and prowess that she had overcome the limitations of her sex and risen to the highest rank in the army."

Listen that makes zero sense. And I can't believe that I got so heated over this. Your whole culture is based on procreating with other species. You get these women by conquest. But everything I got to know about this world is that they mostly took female soldiers because the orcs spend their time mostly on the battlefield. So female warriors are normal in this world. So why the whole 'despite the limitations of her sex'? That's just dumb. That's shitty worldbuilding. Orcs shouldn't have this view on women. Not when they fight against them all the time. Plus the men also fall like flies before them so no sexism there. Get out with your shitty worldbuilding

And the way we learn about stuff... It's one info dump after another. That can be a translation error but I suspect some really shitty writing.

The thing is I've read about rapey orcs before! And although I didn't enjoyed that story at least things made sense and I could see why other people would enjoy that story.

Oh and the whole 'we aren't allowed to have sex with women anymore if we don't have their consent, but the other species will sent over their female prisoners so it's fine.' is just...

*Sigh* this story is a mess.

I get having rape fantasies and how fiction can be a safe outlet for that. What I don't get is having a blurb that mentions an orc seeking a wife but not because he's secretly a romantic but just didn't find the time to rape a woman. I just wanted to read about a socially awkward orc who is badass on the battle field but a dumbass with women. A himbo orc. Or at least shenanigans.

I will finish it because it was too expensive not to and also I want to be fully justified in giving it 1 star. And I do think it will be 1 star. Nothing can safe this.

***Before reading***
I got sucked in* by the title.

I want to say I'm shameless but alas some shame is had...

*EDIT: After thinking about what I wrote I realized I sounded creepy. What I meant is the title sounded hilarious especially after I realized that I read it wrong. Most of the time these kinds of novels have noncon/dubcon situations but based on what other people said it seems that this one is the opposite of that.
Still feel vaguely embarrassed putting this on my wishlist though.

This is better than I thought, as expected of Rifujin. The world-building was interesting; every race had their own culture and beliefs. Even when it was written to have a comedy effect, there were still some inspirational aspects in it. Not every attempt ended in success, but that's not a reason to give up either, such is life.

This is a new light novel series from the same controversial author of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.(I have a review, here on goodreads, of that series if you are interested in it.)
This is the first volume and has 160+ pages with 9 chapters. This series is based on a basic premise, a decorated war hero, Bash, half-orc half human, at 28 years of age is still a virgin. Orcs are extremely physiological in the satisfaction of their basic needs (animal instincts) (eat, go to the bathroom, reproduce.) Because the Orcs are a highly fertile species, they have very high population growth (like goblins and Kobolds).
So the main character is a denatured hero Orc. An Orc that opposes his animal desires (instincts). Even though he is not an educated Orc, he considers that the Peace (only 3 years old) that this alternate reality world lives currently has reduced the chances he has had to find a woman to have kids with. Orc hero is not saving himself. He just feels ashamed that he is still a virgin at 28 years of age. So for 25 years he stayed a virgin because he was fighting a war with the Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Beast-folk.
Author fills this new series with contradictions. The first encounter the Orc hero has is with two women being attacked by bug-bears (illustration is of a regular bear not a bug-bear, A bugbear is a legendary creature or type of hobgoblin comparable to the boogeyman). Illustration shows how Orc hero cuts bears open and leaves pieces of the bug-bears and yet, a rookie female knight, Judith, stops Orc hero, Bash, at the inn, and takes him to jail for trying to "rape" the two women who he saved. The two women were transporting "illegally" Zell the fairy. It is illegal to take sentient beings against their will and yet, with all of this, the female knight still took Orc hero to jail.
More than a woman, to have sexual relations with, I think the author and the Orc hero need a psychiatrist. Almost every comment, every idea is a contradiction. It could be irony, but if it is everywhere, and this series is not a comedy, it just seems sad and irrational. Maybe author should teach the main character to masturbate, at least then this whole light novel would lose it's anxiety and pressure.
Zell advises Bash that to be able to entice a human woman he needs to “Keep clean, smell good, act dignified, speak wisely...". The Orc hero, has never been with any woman, no Orc woman, no other species woman. Not even prostitutes or the women that were sent to the Orcs with the Peace treaty.
The Orc hero likes the rookie Knight Judith, but Judith had a sister that was victim to the Orcs. As a prisoner of war she was forced to give birth to over six Orc children and when she returned home, she was broken. So this "love" or "lust" that the author created is impossible or irrational as well. It would be easier to pay someone and have them help the Orc hero lose his virginity. If it were really important for the author and the main character to lose his virginity, he would have lost it at 10 years old just like any other Orcs.

This is such a strange pivot from Mushoku Tensei. The sexual assault is quite excessive and the fact that the author already stated in the afterward that this isn't a story with character development is concerning.

I may pick up the second volume but I think I'll have to space these out just to give myself a palette cleanser.

If you're coming from Mushoku Tensei and picked this up because you want to read more of this author's work, I would just caution you to not go into this expecting the same level of world building. So far, this is a comedy with some Berserk Parody sprinkled in and sexual assault on the forefront of the story.

Yes, Bash (not Guts) is looking for a wife he can have consensual relations with, but he is constantly talking about how he just wants to pin these women down and force them to have their children. Luckily he is joined by Zell (not Puck) his little non-binary fairy friend who gives him advice on how to court his potential mate.

The parody isn't that serious, and the juxtaposition of comedy and graphic sexual assault make the flow of this novel a bit awkward.

The jokes are alright and I did blow air out of my nose at least one time that I remember.

3.5 out of 4, but still good.

Overall, this was a fun premise. An orc wants to get laid and gets mixed up in some human affairs. It’s definitely not high literature, but it was entertaining.

I came across this light novel because I’ve read another work by him. Mushoku Tensei. This book has the same kind of feel, which is to say that the point is to entertain.

The simplistically of the story also hinders it slightly. The stakes are very low, so it could make one lose their attention from time to time. Also, the descriptions are both good and lacking. Most characters are really well defined. Bash, Houston, Judith, etc., they’re fleshed out well. But characters such as the Orc King and a few others are kind of glossed over in descriptions. Though, this being a light novel, the accompanying images help fill in a lot of the blanks.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I’ll grab the next one when it comes out to see what happens to Bash and company. Also, I’ve been a fan of the illustrator for years, and seeing their “normal” work was quite nice.

Illustrationen / Cover)

I really enjoyed it but not for what you'd expect. It's got a great artist behind it (and if you recognize the name you know). But what I didn't expect were the numerous times I'd laugh out loud at the ridiculous scenarios it puts forth. That being said, this book won't be for everyone. It's a literal content warning from the first ten pages on. Even veterans of dark fantasy might get put off. That being said (again), the premise is absurd and the misunderstandings are what's keeping me around.

So...

I thought this would be nonsense, like many light novels are. I didn't read the author's name, had I known it was Mushoku Tensei's author I would have expected more at the onset.

But, I really enjoyed it. It is well written and well illustrated and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Deeply enjoyed reading about this hardcore looking Orc trying his best in his own way to find a bride. I can tell by the ending that he's going to be meeting a ton of new characters and I can't wait till the next book to see what happens.

Decent writing but not a massive fan of works relying on the trope of misunderstandings. 3/5

Quite enjoyed reading about Bash and his journey. His total confusion and everyone not being on the same page was pretty funny.
