As bedtime approaches, the construction vehicles settle down for a good night's sleep. The cement mixers, diggers, tow trucks, forklifts, dump trucks, steamrollers, garbage trucks, cranes, and bulldozers all say good night and cuddle up with their parent.
This story is told in rhyme, and I'm always very picky about rhyming text in children's books. I really enjoyed the lovely rhymes in this book! They are easy to read aloud, and the rhythm is good. The story tells about all the things each vehicle did through the day, and how they need their sleep to stay strong and work again tomorrow. These rhymes are a delight to read aloud!
I loved the cute illustrations! All the little trucks and their parents are so adorable, and every scene has a calming atmosphere as the vehicles settled down peacefully for the night.
The touch-and-feel portions of the pages are really interesting, using plastic, glitter, soft fabrics, cardboard, and leathery fabrics. I especially liked the glittering stars on the last page! It's so clever the way these things are integrated into the wheels, forklifts, and other parts of the vehicles.
What a fun book!

It's been a long, hard day for Little Mixer, Little Digger, Little Mixer, Little Forklift, Little Dump Truck, Little Steamroller, Little Garbage Truck, Little Crane, and Little Bulldozer, but now it's time for some rest. Each of these hard workers gets is celebrated with two pages of text and images, and youngsters will delight in seeing the little trucks working alongside an adult and getting ready to shut down for the evening. Perfect for those who love big trucks, this board book makes a good read aloud because of the lulling quality of the words. Its appeal is heightened by the various textures listeners and readers can explore; for instance, there are bricks to be touched, a forklift to stroke, and even stiff, accordion-folded paper to test out. And yes, this one will require multiple readings due to requests from listeners. Many of them will wonder--outloud!--what all those snoring vehicles might sound like as they snooze.
Say goodnight to all the construction vehicles---mixer, digger, tow truck, forklift, and more---as they finish a busy day and prepare to rest for the night. Told in lulling verse and featuring a single construction vehicle on each double-spread of pages, this is a lovely way to put a kid who has been busy all day to bed.
A perfect bedtime story for fans of construction trucks.
Nine "parent" construction trucks (mixer, digger, tow, forklift, dump, steamroller, garbage, crane, and bulldozer) are featured on two-page spreads, each with a 4 line AABB rhyming verse recited to tuck their young one in for the night. The rhymes are calm and well-constructed, reading aloud well.
Digital artwork(?) features darker backgrounds with brightly colored trucks (yellow, red, green) contrasting, with the only exception the garbage truck with a golden-yellow/orange night sky with stars and the moon showing (are they in an Arctic region???). Each spread also includes a textured element for young hands to feel (shiny and textured paper, textured fabric, and glitter).
For those not quite ready for Good Night Construction Site.
