Omega Sanctuary #1

Omega Sanctuary

Rate this book
The Omega Sanctuary had one job, find and protect omegas.

They failed.

I expected to spend my life as a simple baker and overlooked beta. After failing every test to see if I was a fabled alpha or omega, I embraced the quiet beta life.

Unfortunately, my body had other plans. Flung into a pre-heat state only omegas experience, my dreams go up in flames. Along with my sex drive.

Rushed off to the Omega Sanctuary, I have to bond an alpha before my first heat comes, and with it, uncontrollable magic. Except my scent is so subtle, the only men who will give me a second glance are forbidden.

A guardian oath-bound to the Order of the Silver Lion. A flirtatious omega, and his older and oh so much wiser alpha. A disdainful prince who is more worried more about politics than pack.

With shadowy forces kidnapping omegas straight from their temples, it’s never been a more dangerous time to be an omega.

If I have any hope of protecting those I love, I’ll have to become the omega I never wanted to be to do the impossible.

Unite these men into a pack.

Omega Sanctuary is a fantasy non-shifter sweet omegaverse romance with magic. It’s the first of two planned novels. If you ever wished there was more knotting in Kushiel’s Dart this is the series for you.

♥Burn: medium to spicy

♥Warning: contains MM, HEA guaranteed in Book 2, but pack is not complete in Book 1

2.5/5, rounded down.

Look, I get that I’m in the minority here. I feel very torn about this book. The premise was interesting, and I liked that there was a magical element to this story, but the world building and character development just weren’t enough.

Let’s talk about characters first, because that was my biggest problem.

This story is told through multiple POV. This is perhaps the easiest way to develop your characters because we literally get to switch into seeing the story from their perspective every now and then, getting to know them. But I don’t think that Mira Kane utilized this format to its potential. The chapters we get from the guys (one for each of them except for Valens, who gets 2-3) are short, and don’t offer much insight to their characters, at all. If anything, they detract from their character. Take Nikolaidis (who Zara insists on calling “Nikki”) for example: his character is supposed to be this blasé prince who eventually, randomly, seems to attach himself to Zara, despite believing that it can’t go anywhere. That’s what we get of him from Zara’s perspective. In his POV chapter? We get a very brief conversation with his father after his first meeting with Zara, where he feels like he betrayed her by telling his father of her existence. I know what you’re thinking. That wasn’t a wasted chapter. It introduces the villain/central conflict. Nope! Doesn’t come up again. Maybe would’ve been a good opportunity to understand why Zara becoming his omega would “never happen” though.

It’s the same for the others, except Valens who I feel like we know because we spent so much time with him for the first half of this book (and then didn’t see or hear from him really until the final orgy). Based on the character descriptions, these men should feel distinct and different from each other, but they’re not. They are just a sequence of sex scenes that are also very similar until they all come together at the end, some of them meeting for the first time, and they just go for it with each other.

There was a fun little interlude with Rayth and Zara where they have a bet going at one of these gala dinner dances and it’s so endearing. But then we get these character revelations like Rayth is traumatized by storms, and that’s all the info we get. There’s no attempt to elaborate and give him any real depth. We’re just told he has it, and are expected to move on.

Ultimately, it just felt like an idea half-formed. Like this was not a first installment in a series, but rather the first half of a book. The characters, world, plot, and relationships are all underdeveloped- even for a first installment. We’re told of the high stakes, but I don’t feel them.

It’s clearly just me alone here on this island, but I am okay with that. Read what you like, and people seem to like this one. I didn’t hate it, at all. I just wish it had more meat to it.

If you’re in the mood for a sweet omegaverse set in a fantasy world, then this book is perfect for you.

My favorite part was Zara, the main protagonist. She felt mature, with a well defined personality, which was so nice after so many immature and juvenil fmc. And she was also very funny and charming. And my favorite part, she was unapologetically horny and knew how to ask for what she wanted. I loved how desperate she’d get with her guys and how they reacted to that. I’m not usually into that kinda thing but in this book, it worked really well.

Sadly, the men in her harem weren’t that well developed. Granted there were 5 of them, which I’m sure complicates things up. But some of them just showed up to fulfill her fantasies and then melt into the background to make way for the new guy to swipe in.

We were introduced to Valens, who was a Delta. It’s the first time I see this in an omegaverse and I was very intrigued. Sadly, Valens was barely developed and he went away for the majority of the book, to only come back right at the end and act like an alive sex toy who barely said two lines.

Unsurprisingly, my favorite man from the harem was Asano, the male omega. I have a thing for male omegas ok? He was so hot and his chemistry with Zara was amazing. His daddy alpha was okay, not as developed but he had some interesting aspects.

Then we got Nikki, prince heir to some islands, with an apparently evil father. But that plot is quickly forgotten and nothing comes out of it. He resists his attraction to Zara because he needs to mate a future queen. But then he gives in pretty quickly once she hits on him. His slow burn with Zara at least left us with a really hot sex scene so no complains here.

Overall, I thought the plot was interesting and unique, I loved Zara, and the smut was smoking hot. But the last 20% of the story were kind of a mess. And the pace of the story suffered tremendously. I feel like the author tried to do too many things and there wasn’t enough space for it all.

There’s some good ideas here, but unfortunately nothing is well executed. I think this author is worth following, but this book needed more work before publication.

There’s 5 guys, and all of them spend more than half the book “away” because the authors couldn’t juggle all of them. The heroine is likable in general, but it’s hard to get a sense that she truly cares for any of these guys when she’s so busy jumping from one bed to the next.

I honestly wasn’t sure if her childhood crush was going to come back and redeem himself after the beginning, and it made me very confused about how I was supposed to feel about him. Because he was awful, but why did we spend so much time with him if he wasn’t important?

Her spirit guy is sweet and kind, but we never learn WHY he’s drawn to her. I guess the “We have a magic connection” was enough for some people? I wanted more about why they’re comparable and what he’s actually getting from that the relationship with her.

The relationship with her sentinel moves really fast. Within 3 days, we’re already at “I’ll never leave you and will upend my entire life for you.” I get it’s a romance novel, but it’s been three days. Totally broke my suspension of disbelief. Slow down. You’ve got time to develop this. They exchange magic mirrors—presumably to eliminate the problem of him being gone for most of the book. But then they use it ONCE. What was the point then?

Asano is the best developed — as evidence by the fact I remember his name. But I never felt a connection between her and Asano’s alpha. So these two together are the best and worst of her relationships.

Moody prince also happened way too fast. I wasn’t feeling the sexual tension enough between them for him jumping on her impatiently to work. And then he tries to break up with her at the end? Like seriously people — communication please!

So I’m short, I was too frustrated by the fact that the relationships were so shallow for this to work for me, even though a lot of the magic was fun and interesting.

It wasn't particularly good or bad but I started it a little while back - put it down because other things caught my eye - and have not been all that inclined to pick it up again. And in a world where the number of books far outdoes the amount I will ever be able to read I take that as a sign to walk away.

From what I did read the girl was a touch too naive. Obviously, I don't expect her to know how to handle being an omega as it is new to her. No the part that bothered me is her fixation on her childhood crush. I will never understand a young woman hopelessly in love with a boy/man who never gives her the time of day. I could perhaps forgive it if he at least treated me kindly, even if only as a friend/acquaintance. But what's his face is a literal ass who has legit never seen her. They grew up in the same village all their lives and he can't even be bothered to remember her name. That's a red flag.

The next love interest isn't much to write home about either. I mean he is good to the FL but he was given all the depth of white bread before she fell into bed with him. Honestly, I cared more for the two side characters that appeared than I did their romance. So alas, I did this one adieu.

Luckily it was on Kindle Unlimited so I don't free too bad walking away. I tend to be inclined to finish anything I purchase. As always I leave the star rating portion blank because I did not make it past 50% - my own personal benchmark for making a rating.

While I really like the premise - there’s a serious lack of world building. I don’t feel I understand the magic or how exactly the various designations interact (other than vague A/B/O/D descriptions) very well and the individual characters are flat. Weirdly, Jaiyen was the most dynamic and well developed even if he was an asshole.

There’s some vague-ing that I guess is supposed to keep me interested, unfortunately it’s not that compelling. I want to really care about these characters and instead I have to keep reminding myself to pick this back up.

This isn’t terrible, it just isn’t holding my attention like I want a story to.

Loved this fantasy Omegaverse so much! Loved the set up of Zara as an Omega who was unaware of her nature, and then the slow unveiling of all that meant for her and how it sends her on her epic journey... I'm super into OV with magic, so this was perfect for me. Can't wait for the next book!

I enjoyed the characters and how the FMC Zara met each of the men she was interested in and developed their bonds. However, the overall story and villain intrigue in the plot was not well paced, and her spirit magic seemed to be very awkwardly integrated into the plot and not well fleshed out. Many parts of the world were introduced in detail and then skimmed over by the end. Additionally, Zara's final heat scene wasn't very believable to me, especially with my usual experience with omegaverse books.

If I rated the book only on the characters, I would have given it a 4-star rating, but unfortunately, all the writing issues made a dent in my enjoyment as the book went on. I still look forward to the release of the next book and seeing the harem and story developed further.

This book! This book gets my very rare five stars. I LOVED IT!

What did I love about it?

- Strong FMC who is determined to be herself and to make choices that are right for herself. Okay, so I was a bit worried when I read the parts about Jaiyen (a guy from Zara's village, whom she'd had a crush on forever). But even then, you could see she doesn't just want to be wanted because she's an omega. She knows she's more than that, and she wants to be valued for more than that.

- Absolutely wonderful men in the harem.

There's Valen, a guardian from the Order of the Silver Lion. As a guardian, he's protective, and I love that. He would protect Zara even from himself. He's a delta, not an alpha, but Zara doesn't care because she chooses who is right for her, no matter what the designation.

There's Prince Nikolaidis (I really hate that Zara calls him 'Nikki', I don't think it fits at all!!), son of the King of Ember Island. He's an alpha with antimagical abilities, which help to neutralise or soak up Zara's magic when she can't control hers. They work together to help her master her magic, and I love that their abilities complement each other in this way. I wished we had more of his POV, because I think there's a lot going on with him that he's not letting on. Initially, he's sullen and rude to Zara, but once he realises she's not the pampered and attention-seeking omega that he expects, his walls slowly begin to lower. So gruff but so thoughtful and protective, almost like he can't help himself. I love me a tortured alpha.

There's Rayth, another alpha, who is older. How much older, we're not told, but he probably can be a sort of sugar daddy to Zara 😏 He sees something in her which pulls him to her, and is incredulous that other alphas are so blind and oblivious. He's got a mischievous side to him and doesn't take himself too seriously. He'll balance out Nikolai perfectly, I think.

There's Asano, an omega bonded to Rayth, who seems to sense a kindred spirit in Zara, and befriends her. He and Rayth get to know Zara separately, each not realising that the other has her in his sights. Asano is kind and caring, and nurtures something inside Zara that the other men don't. He's also outgoing and enthusiastic, reminding me a bit of Rake/Rakim from Kathryn Moon's Lola and the Millionaires, except he's not as OTT as Rake.

There's Kivai, who watches over Zara from the spirit realm and is there to help her when those in the mortal realm cannot. I really cannot wait to see how this will play out in the next book, but I have a soft spot for Kirai because I love those fated mate books where they meet their mates in dreams and fall in love through the dream interactions.

If I had to quibble, I'd only complain about two things: Firstly, there is not enough of the men's POV. I really wanted to know what drew Rayth to Zara, what he saw in her. He seemed to expect her to be a typical Omega, and then was intrigued when she turned out not to be. I also wanted to know more about Nikolai and Asano -- what made Asano decide so early on that he was in it for the long haul with Zara? What persuaded Nikolai to change his mind about bonding Zara, when he was so adamant that he could not? Was it just that he couldn't resist her due to her heat?

Secondly, the world-building. We do not have enough information about this world to know how many countries there are and how they are interconnected. Like, we know that Nikolai is from Ember Island, and Zara is from Andaria, but we don't know if the two countries are neighbours. We know that the Omega Sanctuary is in the southern region of Andaria, but I expected the Sanctuary to be neutral and welcome omegas from various countries; I'm not sure if they are, or if they do. I assume that the shrines are all over the world, and not just in Andaria, but it is never specified; "across the land" can mean just across Andaria, and there's no mention of collaboration with people across the globe.

I also did not fully understand the whole 'magic being redirected by the shrines' thing. Sure, the shrines help to draw energy away, control the magic and make it flow in towards them, rather than leaving it chaotic and free. But once the magic arrives at the god's heart in the centre of the shrine, then what? Is it stored in the god's heart, or neutralised by it? If it is stored, will the god's heart ever get too full and overflow?

The world-building thing was not a big issue for me because it didn't materially affect the story, but not being able to fully understand or picture these things in my mind bugged me a bit.

The mystery or danger of what is happening at the shrines and who is kidnapping omegas is a background plot that keeps the story interesting, because it's not just a story about Zara meeting her men and forming her pack. I loved the way book 1 ended; although the story is obviously incomplete, the book has a very clear conclusion and stops in a logical place. Some pressing issues are already settled, so we don't get left dangling over a crazy cliff. I'm very excited about book 2!

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

I really liked the concept and set up for Omega Sanctuary, but in the end this turned out to be a bit of a mixed read for me. There were lots of little things that didn't quite work for me, which added up in the end. And it just left me feeling very mixed about this book.

Omega Sanctuary is an omegaverse book set in a fantasy world instead of a contemporary setting. I admittedly am pretty new to the omegaverse genre, but I liked the twist of this one being set in a fantasy setting. I wish we saw more of the world to fully make it come alive. I thought it was neat that it followed a main character who was a baker, although I would've liked a bit more from the baking scenes, but maybe that's because I am used to the more detailed baking scenes you often find in cozy mysteries. The set-up was interesting with an omega who didn't know she was an omega until it was almost too late. And how she has some special magic too.

I thought the start of this one was a bit slow. There's also a whole set-up with a romance that doesn't feel quite right and seeing how that panned out before it feels like the story really starts and I am still not quite sure why that part was relevant as it doesn't have as much impact later. Then the book feels quite story focused for a bit, but then once she starts finding romantic partners it mostly turns to only romance and steam with very little plot. There also were way too much steamy scenes for my taste in the later half of the book. It felt like she didn't do much else with her guys then land in bed.

I felt like a lot of the plot lines or plot points are set up and don't really go anywhere or progress much. Things like the kidnapped omegas which seemed an important plot point stayed to the background and didn't progress much despite it being mentioned often. I also would've liked some more character related plot lines or conflict or seeing characters develop a bit more. Some of the things just seemed a bit too easy. There are also some things that can't happen or are a problem and then suddenly they aren't.

I thought Zara was an okay main character, but I never fully warmed up to her. I liked how she was a baker and how she figured out she wanted someone who cared about more than just her omega status. At other times I liked her a bit less, the way she sometimes acted or behaved just didn't quite work for me. I liked her friendship with her fellow female omega she met early in the book and wish we saw more of her later in the series. I thought there was a nice set up for a romance for her friend, but that didn't go anywhere yet. I also wish sometimes we got a bit deeper into Zara's head as at times I didn't really get what she was feeling. There is some trauma she goes through, but then later in the book it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. I just wanted a bit of a deeper idea of what she was going through. She goes through some though stuff, but then most of the time I didn't really felt the impact of that.

I have a bit mixed feelings about the romance. I liked the set-ups for most of them and I appreciate how she got to know most of them before falling in bed with them, but it still felt quite fast. All the romances progressed quite quickly and while they spend time together I didn't quite feel her connection with them. There are 5 guys she gets in her pack by the end of the book and that's a lot of romances to build in one book. I kinda liked that there were parts where not everyone was there so the focus could shift a bit from guy to guy. I did feel that once she got in bed with a guy the focus shifted and most of their time going forward was steam, a lot of it and not much else. It got kinda tiring after a while how she was always in the mood and could come lots of times. I think I liked her romance with Asano the most as they actually went on dates and got to know each other a bit more before their romance turned physical. I did like how Zara has a variety of guys and doesn't go only for the expected and accepted ones.

I didn't really care for the way the group came together as a pack. It felt like Zara mostly had individual relationships with every guy, except for two who were already bonded and it seemed fine that way to me. They don't interact much and each of their romances is pretty separate. Then by the end it suddenly turns into one big group thing with everyone together and it just didn't seem to fit with what was previously established. It felt too much too soon and too easy to suddenly have them be all one big groups and some MM that came out of nowhere. I am all for MM in polyamory romances and it felt fitting with the two who were already a couple, but in the scene at the end it just felt done for the hotness effect and not organically and that didn't work for me.

This book had an interesting idea for the world with a fantasy world, with magic and alpha, omegas, betas and deltas. Unfortunately I felt that the world didn't really come alive as much. There wasn't much explanation for a lot of things, like why a omega needs to bond with a alpha or even how the magic works. I liked the unique feel it gave to the book, but I wanted more detail. The world was a bit of a weird mix of a more typical medieval fantasy setting and there being magic combined with more modern things like ovens, running water etc. There are some interesting pieces like the way the magic runs and the shrines govern the magic. I wanted to see more of the world and udnerstand why the world was the way it is. It just felt like there wasn't enough to really make the world feel real and alive.

To summarize: I liked the set-up for Omega Sanctuary with the way it blends the omegaverse genre with a fantasy setting. It had an unique feel and I liked the set-up. It was an easy read and I wanted to keep reading, but the further I got the more little things started bothered that added up and made this a mixed read for me. There was a lot of set-up that didn't really go anywhere and build-up that then didn't seem as relevant. I liked how Zara was a baker and she seemed a nice enough person, but I wish we could get deeper into her head and really understand what she was feeling and going through. I liked how the romances all had a bit of build-up before things turned steamy, but to me it still felt like the relationships all progressed really quickly and most of the focus was on the steam. While the first half of the book has quite a bit of plot the later half seemed more focused on the romances and especially the steamy content. There was a bit too much steam for my taste in this book. I didn't really care how the pack came together as a group, the romances mostly felt just Zara and the guy and the guys didn't really interact much together except for the two who were already bonded before they got to know Zara. Then at the end there's suddenly this big group thing and it just felt off to me. The world seemed interesting, but there wasn't enough detail to make it really come alive. There were so many things I wanted to know more of.

A why choose that builds a pack over one full book without using any sort of fated mates trope, impressive! World building was well done, a combo of a fantasy world and Omegaverse.

Valens was my favorite and I missed him when he was away.

This book has potential for me with an interesting plot set in a fantasy Omegaverse and yet it suffered from poor writing. This is perhaps one of the few book I’ve ever read that could use a few extra hundred pages if only the author ‘showed’ instead of ‘told.’ It was almost like reading a historical timeline of things happening with little character motivation or world building going on.
I unfortunately won’t be continuing with this duology.

This was different. I think maybe it had too much going on. There was a strange dichotomy between the h feeling extraordinarily special but completely lacking at the same time.

I really enjoy omegaverse. The sweet kind and the darker variety. It just seems so hard to find something that ticks all the boxes. Everyone wants to be unique with their stories but they all move away from the heart of omegaverse. Omegas and alphas need each other. I don’t need packs filled with betas, male omegas, deltas etc. give me one omega and a handful of alphas. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

This poor super special omega who’s barely got gives any indication she’s an omega has a pack consisting of a delta who’s absent from the majority of the book, a spirit that no one can see for 99.9% of the book and then he’s only seen briefly by others, a male omega who’s already bonded to an alpha, the aforementioned alpha who can’t bond her properly because he’s already bonded to the male omega, and the prince who is an unbonded alpha but he’s an asshole to her because he likes her and can’t actually have her b/c he’s supposed to marry an omega who can be a queen and this omega is supposedly super special and can’t do that.

Do you see how needlessly complicated that is? I’m probably going to try to read the next book but I’m braced for the disappointment.

I keep on reading weird books that are hard to breakdown for my reviews but I’ll try to sun it up.

So obviously this is a why choose situation. She attempts to create a bond with an alpha early-ish in the book. She’s crushed on him forever. He didn’t notice her at all. It doesn’t go well, she’s not wet enough for his knot and he’s an immature, impatient ass.

Then she bangs the delta maybe around halfway. Tgen the spirit guy. Then comes the male omega, followed quite a bit later by his alpha. Finally the only unbonded alpha so far who supposedly can’t bond with her. Or maybe he’s decided to do it anyway. The end made it a bit unclear to me. She claims all of them as hers. Not sure if the unbonded alpha ageees exactly.

No cheating that I’m aware of. There is a cliffhanger.

i’m really disappointed

i’ve been super excited to read this series for months now and have been waiting for the second book to come out so I didn’t have to deal with the cliffhanger but after reading this book i’m kinda disappointed.
Reasons Why…
~ It starts off with no background and just throws you into it I had no idea it wasn’t set in the time period till it mentioned horses and carriages
~ we get maybe a good 5-6 chapters with what is supposed to be the like first main guy in the pack and then he basically just disappears till the very end chapter
~ now i’m all for smut but this book was basically all smut which again i’m totally okay with but it just got really repetitive and I felt as though there was no good plot line and no character development

These are excellent. Truly. It's a duet, but the story needed to be told that way, book one is the RH-pack formation, and book two is how the mystery is solved. So I can't hate on that split, because it WORKS.

So. Much. Worldbuilding.

The mixture of high fantasy and omegaverse is really, really interesting. While some of the details remain foggy, you can tell it's just because the information hasn't become necessary to story and come up yet. It's NOT because the rules or information don't exist--and that's some talented writing. That's Tolkien level shit guys, and it's real awesome seeing it in an omegaverse world.

Highly recommend.
Highly highly.

This was hot. But also a little abrupt.

The sex and the magical mystery of it all is what has pushed me to read the next book.

The relationships are what I found to be a tiny bit abrupt.
They don’t have much buildup. Even when they’re set up to have that, they don’t, really.
Which makes it a bit confusing, too.
There’s just not much preamble.
Which is fine.
Like I said. I think the sex made up for it in some ways.

I don’t know.
I’m enjoying it.
It’s just not my favorite.

interesting

This is an interesting take on the Sweet Omegaverse sub genre. I’m this world, Omegas have magic and the bond with an Alpha helps control it. I liked that.

The story itself is fairly well plotted and interesting enough to keep the pages moving. It’s far faster in heat than it actually feels, which was a unique feature and somehow doesn’t feel rushed at all. Curious about Nikki though, I have a feeling things won’t be a smooth as she thinks in book 2.

A nice read. What took away stars?
- plot started off strong but slowly tapered off.
- reader is with the MC when it comes to ignorance
- there’s trouble but we’re with the MC, who’s not in a position to do anything about it at this time
- characters 100% moved fast. There wasn’t enough time to get to know them

Uhm... This book was... Well... ugh, where do I start.

I have a lot of mixed feelings here. I simultaneously feel like two stars was too much and too little for this book. I read it because it claims to be a sweet omegaverse, and while it's not dark and fucked up like most of the omegaverse books I've read in the past (I'm so done with the non-con and the constant assault and the total abusers alphas are in those books, those factors were certainly not missed), I still suffered through a lot of it? I don't know if I'm sensitive today or what, but I cried... like a lot. Everything made me sad, the fact that she kept getting rejected in subtle ways, and yet was still forced to look for an alpha when none of them wanted her, and then every love interest she found and fell for were deemed unfit by the sanctuary and the only one they approved of wasn't available because of his crown and *deep sigh* It was just a lot, a lot, a lot. And it made me sad like... all the time. Besides, they looked down on her for baking? You kidding me? Just let the poor girl bake, for fuck's sake.

The pacing was all over the place, but I loved the general idea. I liked the general plot, and the magic, and this omega wrecking havoc and everything... but the execution felt so poor. The pacing goes from perfect to fast to non-existing to fast again. I asked myself, more than once, what the fuck was going on. A lot of things were never explained, this version of the omegaverse it's not one I'm used to (it's different from the others I've read on fanfiction and published books), so explanations would've been appreciated (especially since we get an explanation at the beginning detailing what the omegaverse actually is, leading me to believe we would get more explanations about everything else then... but I guess not). The world-building is lacking, the plot is convoluted and weird, and I don't know, it was just a mess. Some of the characters were great, especially Zara—whom I loved—, and there was so much potential in every aspect of the story and yet it all built up to nothing. Or that's how it felt like.

I don't know. I just got into this book very excited and I reached the end just feeling disappointed. I still had moments of enjoyment so it's not like it's a horrible book, far from it, but I expected more. Oh well, it is what it is. Onto the next one, I guess. Hopefully the conclusion will be more satisfying.

Loved the strong fmc. Didn't love the guys, I felt like for getting multi-pov we never got that deep insight into who they are/why they make the choices they do. Conflicted. Will read book 2 & go from there.
Want to see more strong fmc in omegaverse, so bravo on that. 👏

4,5/5. It was way better than I expected to be. And tbh, I don't know why I had those assumptions, maybe the title? Either way, I read it in one sitting.

I loved the world, a fantasy world that had ACOTAR or FBAA vibes: magical.

The spice is great and I'm sure we'll have some great scenes in the next one.

The only thing is, sometimes some characters of her harem felt absent like Valens or Kivai. I understand why but I wished we had more scenes with them.

However if you like sweet omegaverse, RH, magical world, historical setting, repressed omega, not too based on instincts, power discovery, sword crossing, praise... Go for it!

Surprisingly good. I kind of wish it wasn’t an omega verse because in some ways it takes away from the story, but in others it’s obviously necessary.

All the surprise moments were predictable but most are nowadays. I knew her first crush was bad during his first appearance, I saw what all her guys were about in their first appearances, the side characters acted predictably. But whatever, I enjoyed the world building and that it was something different.

The types of sub-species/magical factions would have been nice to be expanded on since mages and other magical entities were mentioned. Along with some basics on the political climate and formation seeing as royal titles were getting thrown around and military was ambling about and I had no idea what kingdom things were occurring in and how that fit with The priestesses.

I didn’t really care about the steamy scenes since I was more interested in the story and I felt like they took precedence at times when they didn’t need to. And after all her erratic moods and symptoms her “heat” at the end seemed kinda flat in terms of importance. Like it was very FYI you’re in heat *insert sexy times* back to the story, end of book one. It was very rushed after all the buildup. Side note: Valens was like a statue the whole time while all of a sudden all the guys were bi/comfortable with mm action without any prior dialogue besides “does this do it for you Zara”. Nothing wrong with it but it seemed porno fake in that all of a sudden there were no limits when they all barely know each other.

It was more than I expected but it still needed some work. If anything it should have been written more as a Fantasy Romance that used omegaverse themes instead of an omegaverse trying to be a fantasy book. I appreciated how it was structured to reduce the misogyny usually seen in omegaverse though.

I hope the sequel doesn’t try to cram too much in in an attempt to cater to the omegaverse part of the story. Otherwise it’s going to overwhelmed the actual plot. It was okay in this book as the plot needed to build and she needed to do the omega/alpha thing, but if the balance remains what it is the book will either be excessively long or the story will be unsatisfactorily resolved.

2.5 stars

It was a 4 star read for me, until about 40% then it slowly started going down hill from there. I absolutely loved the relationship with our first love interest. it was believable and sweet and I loved the time we got to spend with just their building relationship as the focus, with a bit of danger thrown in to keep things interesting and high stakes. But after she gets to the sanctuary it just stalls.

We meet the next love interest one after the other, and split our time going back and forth between them, and we don’t really get to know them very well. The attraction is always instant, and all she thinks about when she’s with them is her “pulsing pussy”.

A huge issue to me came at the end of the book, where two of the love interests meet for the first time for a group orgy, and before hand it was never mentioned at any point if they were into men as well, but they all just jump into this big group sex scene and start going at each other.(I want to mention I am a HUGE fan of MM, the sword crossing was not the issue here) It just made it so apparent that these are not living characters, they just do what the author wants because that’s what she wants to have happen, not because that’s what those characters would do. And that’s sadly a theme I felt pop up all through out the book. We didn’t really get too much time to know the characters before it just devolves into them just banging anytime they see each other.

Points for originality, but not much else...

I missed true affection and some sort of mental or emotional connection in all of the relationships. It seemed like purely physical attraction that the fmc couldn't deny.

Also, they all seemed to be constantly licking each other. Seriously, I think the word "licked" was mentioned 32 times in the book!

But I guess if you wanna be hot and bothered, this might be the book for you. There is definitely plenty of bed-action - and most of it isn't in a bed ;)
