Alien Abduction #13

Mary and the Minotaur

Rate this book
A grumpy, secretive alien. A sweet, not-as-naive-as-she-seems human. A nefarious plot.

Although Mary has never had an easy life, she has always tried her best to maintain an optimistic outlook. But when she is abducted by aliens, it is difficult to find anything positive in the experience.

When she is temporarily abandoned by her kidnappers, she hopes to escape their clutches forever. Instead, she soon finds herself in even more trouble. Her only hope is a huge bull-like alien who should terrify her. Instead, her heart says to trust him.

Sendat has been working as an undercover agent for far too long. Although he believes in his mission, he fears he is becoming as heartless as those he seeks to bring to justice. And then he encounters a small, curvy female who awakens long-hidden feelings.

In order to protect her, he is forced to play a role he despises - and yet, she does not pull away from him. On the run and not sure who to trust, all Sendat knows is that he has to protect Mary. But even if he succeeds, will he have any choice except to give her up?

Each book in the Alien Abduction series can be read as a standalone romance. This sweet and steamy romance is intended for a mature audience only.

It's about Sendat and I honestly didn't think I'd see this alien male again. I knew he was an honorable soldier, so at first I was surprised to find him working for a criminal enterprise. For slavers no less! But then I realized that he was still a good man when he tried to make the newest slave's life a little easier. He even went as far as to purchase her, at least temporarily, for himself. He was undercover and he wasn't going to let Mary suffer a moment more. She was his and sweet Mary recognized that he was every bit as much hers.

I really liked how this one, like the last one, linked the three friends together. Watching these human females interact together along with their alien mates was a sweet treat and I'm only hungry for more of what this author gives. If sweet connections, lively imaginings, and hot sex are to your liking, you're gonna love these books!

Mary was sweet but a little too naive and trusting for me.  She automatically liked and trusted Sendat - thinking he purchased her for just sex for 3 days??  Thinking he was a slaver??  Wth?

Also, living in Chinit's house after killing him was unwise.  Eventually his family and their enemies were going to come looking.

I did loooove Sendat.  He was such a sweetheart. I also loved seeing appearances from previous characters and can't wait for the next book. The story was fast-paced and very entertaining

1.75*

Mary and the Minotaur was the first book I’ve read in the Alien Abduction series. I was assured that this novel could be read as a standalone and, in large part, I think that that assertion is correct. However, I also feel like certain aspects may have a more well-rounded feel to them (especially regarding the world-building) or it would’ve helped to have already know some of the other characters’ stories (like Kate and Lily) had I started with their novels first. At the same time, I don’t think I have anyone to blame but myself for jumping to book 13 instead of starting at the very beginning.

Now, if I had started with book #1 instead, would I have made it to this novel (or to the end of the series in general)? No. Sorry. I’m sure I would’ve abandoned ship after the first novel alone if this story is any indication of how the rest of the books have gone.

Mary was not a believable heroine. While I love that she tried to maintain a positive attitude and look for the best in others, she was put into an impossible situation and was being sold into slavery (which I can only imagine would be a pretty terrifying circumstance). Yet, she smiles and simpers and clings to anyone that shows her…not even “kindness” really, but half a thought? Sendat was harsh and gruff upon their meeting, for example, and although we know the reasons why, Mary doesn’t. Yet this tall, beefed-out (pun intended), furry, alien creature makes her feel “safe?” Uh, okay. Throughout it all, Mary was a shining beacon of positivity, no matter what, you simply couldn’t bring her down – and I kind of wanted to slap some sense into her. It was such an unrealistic take on how anybody would react and it was hard to take her seriously.

Sendat wasn’t exactly a convincing hero either. Maybe it was simply the lack of growth or development he had throughout the story, but he felt very 2-dimentional and bland. His backstory felt contrived as well and I was never convinced of his “warrior” skills.

I also hated that Sendat calls her ‘Miri’ from the very beginning (without any explanation to Mary about why). When Mary tries to correct him, his response is “I don’t care, I’m calling you Miri.” Excuse me? Coming up with a cute nickname is great, or having Mary reveal that that’s actually her real name (because sure it is – what a coincidence!!) - and him calling her that going forward would both have been fine. But to brush off her actual name with an “I’m going to call you whatever I want whether you like it or not” attitude really rubbed me the wrong way.

The love story was a bit underwhelming as well. It was insta-lust for both of them and, basically before they’d exchanged more than a few sentences between the two of them, they were “mated” and in love. It was all very nauseating. There was little to back their story up and their “love” didn’t have more than an ounce of foundation built to hold up their relationship. It felt very flimsy and idealistic.

The smut was okay, but I feel like I was told this couple was having sexy-times instead of shown it more often that not. There were a couple of more detailed scenes, but overall, it was rather unimpressive and I think it could’ve been a lot better.

I really disliked the ending of this novel as well. Sendat is a warrior and so far, his life has had purpose. He felt driven to help the Empire and stop the sale of illegal slaves. Despite being disillusioned with aspects of his life, feeling worn down by his most recent job exploits, and even desiring to do something different, I really don’t think sitting back on his bum “playing house” is the answer. I was never convinced that this would really make him happy (even if he wanted to stay fairly close to his mate).

But even still, other aspects of Sendat and Mary/Miri’s living situation were unconvincing as well. For example, Miri makes a comment about the “crooked” table Sendat built for her (after they’ve lived there for 2 months). Yet, they’re also “restoring” the house room by room. The author made it seem like this was a slow and arduous process and that there was a lot of work involved. Yet, for a man who can’t even build a decent table, I’m not sure how good of a job he’s doing on the rest of the house. Sendat also refuses the (probably more professional) offer of help from Leo for any more than 2 rooms. If I was Leo (or anyone else who steps foot inside), I’d be a bit concerned about his quality of work.

This entire book is only 178 pages long, so it’s no surprise that the book felt rushed and hurried the entire time. The author didn’t allow for any time to stop, build her world, develop her characters, show any character growth, or even create a believable plot. Everything felt flat and we zoomed through the storyline so quickly you could practically get whiplash, it was over and done with so quickly.

For such a short novel there were also WAY too many villains in this story (the big ones including: Yakshi, Chinit, and Arulo). The villains were thrown at us one after another as a plot device to move the story along. I think it would’ve been better had the author focused on one villain instead. It would’ve been less repetitive and she could’ve concentrated more on her other characters/world-building.

I don’t think I’ve seen a rating for this book lower than 3* and I honestly don’t know what I’m missing. My best guess is that the individuals who’ve really loved this series started at the beginning (like a normal person), fell in love with it, and have continued to read each novel to get to this one. For me, it was a disappointing and unbelievable novel. I didn’t hate this book and there were still aspects of it that I found overly enjoyable, but it’s not a series I’d want to continue (or backtrack on).

This book has:
--Minotaur man (Monster romance elements)
--Sweet human in distress
--Undercover alien military
--Great side characters!
--Adventure
--Wraps the trilogy with Kate & the Kraken and Lily and the Lion, but can be read alone.

Sendat has all of the protective alpha male goodness that you have come to expect from Phillips! There was some great adventure in this story and I especially enjoyed Jubbwa's hideout. (We get introduced to a character that will be in the next book that I loved, too!) This tale is perfectly steamy and the epilogue is funny and cute. I love visiting with Kate and Lily from the previous two books. For all of you monster lovers, I would call this monster romance lite! You'll definitely enjoy it! 4 stars!

Love these books !!

As Always , I enjoy a foray into these exotic worlds of the Alien Abduction series !!
In this story we find out what happened to Lilly and Kate's friend from the abduction ship , Mary.
Mary finds herself thrust into a escape pod, and landing in a junk heap . Soon after, she finds herself sold and this time to a sort of minotaur looking alien, Sendat.
Sendat is not who he seems. He seems to be a slaver.
But he takes one look at Mary, and he just knows that he had to help her......
This was a light hearted, easy read, and I expect many more stories to come .

I stumbled across Honey when I had finished another authors books. I have been on a bit of a sci fi romance blitz. Just something to get lost in other than the norm. Where you can do what you want because it is sci fi.

Trust me you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed this one so much that I am now working my way through all her books. Gotta love Kindle Unlimited.

Mary is an optimist, some may call her naive or innocent but the fact is she just chooses to see the best in people. This is tested like never before when she is abducted by aliens, temporarily abandoned and then ends up being given to a slaver. Things start to look up however when she meets a bull-like alien, who she shouldn’t feel safe with but her heart says to trust. Sendat has been an undercover agent for too long. While he still believes in his mission he has started to feel just as heatless and unfeeling as those he wants to stop. This all changes when he meets Mary. She is sweet, innocent and no matter how badly he acts in order to keep his cover they continue to become closer.

Readers of Honey Phillips Alien Abduction series will recognize Sendat as a Bukharan guard from Ella and the Emperor, the fifth book in the Alien Abduction series, if they are paying close attention. Knowing who he is beforehand is not a necessity for enjoying this book though, it just adds a richness to the character. As usual each book is a standalone but reading in order adds to the overall story.
The way in which Mary and Sendat work together throughout was a main reason I enjoyed this story. From the beginning Sendat is willing to do anything to protect Mary, and Mary is willing to trust him with her life. While the speed in which they grow close, and especially Mary growing to trust him, was undoubtedly fast this is explained away by Mary’s confidence in her intuition and ability to read people. Fans of Intsta-love troupes will enjoy this relationship. I also particularly appreciated the interactions between Sendat and Jabbwa De Hutera. While there is still a cautiousness, the respect they have for each other is apparent.

This was such an adventure! I really enjoyed these two together. Miri is definitely a "sunshine" heroine. Most of the time I enjoyed this aspect of her, but there were times when her reactions to everything were a bit unbelievable or unrealistic given the situation she was in. But it helped that it was explained to her "gut feeling" about Sendat, before she really knew him, essentially, and it helped me overlook this aspect. Otherwise I truly loved Miri, and Sendat is the perfect kind of gruff and soft. This was such a cute and funny read, and of course steamy! Which I love!

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was vivid, the the squalor and corruption of the undercity coming to life. The characterization was great, with the hero being strong and deeply honorable and the heroine being determined to focus on the positive in any situation, which I deeply admired. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet and sizzling, with great chemistry between these two protagonists. The heat level of this book was three chili peppers. The plot was action packed and exciting, so the pacing raced by. This novel was low angst and high stakes throughout, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. This novel used the Partner in Trouble trope and the Man in Uniform trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys honorable alpha males in uniform and high stakes in their sci-fi romances. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases! I will buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.

I received a free copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh how I love this series!💖💖🔥🔥

It's Mary's turn to find love, acceptance and true belonging among the stars. When mary, mate and Lily where separated each were tossed into an escape pod that their kidnappers were going to retrieve at a later date. Mary tires to find the best in every person and situation even when it truly doesn't work out. She was nice to one of her captors and he treated her kindly but it ment nothing in the end for her was going to buy her and treat her as a pet. So when she landed she tried to escape and save herself but was caught and traded.it's here that she meets Sendat. It took me a minute to remember him but he was a great character from Ella and the emperor. He left the emperor's service to join the fleet. He is on an undercover mission to find out who is heading the slave trade especially the trade of human women. The emperor wants it stopped. When he sees the beautiful b!once blue eyed Mary he says had to rescue her . Mary is completely intrigued and attracted to the minotaur like Sendat even though he's gruff and says scary things he treats her kind!y and protects her. She senses their is more to him than she can fully see. Together they begin an adventure to find out who is behind the trafficking of humans and along the way find love, acceptance and !it's of passion. Loved every second and I'm looking forward to the Naga's story has a very intriguing character. Highly recommend 🔥💖💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥

I loved reading this! This is Mary and Sendat’s story and it is definitely a whopper. Lily and Kate’s friend Mary finally finds the one male for her, well technically he buys her. It all works out in the end though and they get a happily ever after. There’s lots of action, steamy scenes, betrayal and more too. When one of the slavers sticks Mary in an escape pod and tells her don’t worry he will find her and keep her, to say she was terrified is an understatement. She manages to escape the pod but then traded in an underground slave ring. There Sendat, an undercover officer of the imperial fleet, tells his boss he wants to buy her. Mary feels as though she is safe with him and her instincts are right. What follows is them hiding from the police with an alien that reminds me of Jabba the Hutt, then she is kidnapped by a pompous feline, saved by her mate, held hostage and saved again by her mate. Despite going through an awful time Mary, who is now known as Miri, still has an upbeat attitude, a male who loves her and she couldn’t be any happier unless she were to find Lily and Kate, the females she was abducted with and held hostage by.

I know that a lot of people would say that Mary is stupid or insipid. She is neither of those things she is a quiet person who likes to see the good in others. The only way is not always a feisty heroine and Mary is a heroine none the less for her gentler approach to life. Sometimes there is more to be gained by being kind than by being harsh. She doesn't loose her head and she doesn't really make rash decisions but she does try to find her own way out of her predicament. Sendat is somewhere between a rock and a hard place. He is in the fleet and was put undercover to infiltrate and work against the slave trade. He is an honourable male but he feels that he has been tainted by the work he was sent to do. Another rotten day of no real leads when all of sudden a vision is brought into his work place. He cannot let her go to anyone and he desperately wants to keep her for himself. His views on his worthiness, his current position will not allow him to think that he has any chance with her. It seems however that there is a trap closing in around him of which he is totally unaware of. Will this pull him and Mary together or send them far apart?

It's Mary's turn to find her special someone and he's...well, Sendat doesn't seem like such an upstanding guy on the surface. It turns out, though, that he's a real marshmallow when it comes to Mary. He's sweet, strong, and willing to go whatever he needs to do to keep his human safe.

Playing the part of a heartless slaver, however, means Sendat's not able to show all that sweetness at first. Not that his gruffness stops Mary from trusting him. She feels safe with Sendat from the moment she lays eyes on him and she runs with that.

And when things go sideways, she goes on the run WITH him. Which works nicely because Sendat isn't about to leave his sweet, soft ladyfriend on her own.

More than a few questionable characters, a little case of betrayal, a few steamy encounters before our couple seals the deal, and an intriguing cleaner who's getting his own story. These aliens, man. Love 'em!

👽 “I love you, Miri. I want to be with you always. To protect you. To care for you.”
~~~
I loved Mary (Miri)! She’s such a good person - kind, sweet, caring. Some might call her naive, but I loved that she chose to see the best in people. In addition, she’s such a brave woman despite everything happening in her life.
And Sendat is just wonderful! He’s strong, honorable, possessive and fiercely protective. I loved everything about him!
The development of their relationship was so sweet! They were so great together and absolutely perfect for each other. And the connection and passion they shared was scorching hot!
In addition, I’m quite fascinated with Kaiyo. I definitely need more of him!
Also - “Jabbwa de Hutera”! Oh, I see what you did there, Ms. Phillips!
Overall, the story is another wonderful addition to the series! It’s filled with danger, suspense, twists, betrayal, fast-paced action, steamy romance and amazing characters.
I couldn’t put it down and loved every page of it!
Can’t wait to see what happens next!
4/5
Told in 3rd person.
Minotaur-look-alike alien male + petite curvy human woman
Size kink (man is larger than the lady) my fav
High sexual tension
Initial attraction.
Heroine(Mary) is a virgin and hero(Sendat) is not.
Steamy smex scenes 🌶🌶
Trigger warning
-Some scenes insinuates potential sexual assault
-colossal-alien-sock thrust into vagina in one go
Mild self induced angst (for the guy.)
(He doesn’t feel he’s worthy because of the shit he’s done during his u deceiver days. Also he kinda “broke the law” by purchasing Mary even tho it was to save her. 🤷🏻‍♀️ )
No cheating. No other woman/man.
-1 ⭐️ (for me)
one thrust colossal-size-alien-cock into virgin human female.
🤦♀️ NO NO NO! No matter how aroused the female is, a cock of that size into untried vaginal open would tear the opening.
This has been the issue for me for many of books of this genre.
Would I re-read? No.
Do I recommend?
If you enjoy size kink.
Also the interaction between the hero and heroine is cute.
Human Mary hadn't had a particularly easy life but has always been optimistic but when she is abducted by aliens she finds it hard to find anything positive about it. Then she is loaded into an escape pod and abandoned by the kidnappers only to find herself in even more trouble. Her only hope left is in the shape of a large bull-like alien who is brooding, surly but her heart tells her to trust him. Sandat is working undercover and fears he is just as heartless as those he is trying to bring to justice until he meets a small and curvy female who awakens hidden feelings in him. To protect her he has to play the role of a slave owner (which is very wrong) but she is still very trusting of him. He is determined to protect her but in the end, will he have to give her up?
I enjoyed this story which had a nice twist with the undercover officer, the betrayals, the slavers and the feelings that were definitely there quickly between Mari and Sandat. This was an easy story to read, feel and understand which definitely helped to transport me to another world. Contains some mature content.
I loved this book! It had a lot of intrigue and mystery and had an adventurous feel to it. I loved Sendat. I found it so interesting he was undercover to expose an illegal slave operation and had to balance the person he had to present himself as with his own honor and the actions he himself would want to make. Miri (Mary) was so sweet and innocent and despite knowing the darker side of people, always tried to see the best in someone and the positive side of situations. She took to Sendat immediately and I liked them as a couple right away. I really liked the supporting characters, and familiar faces from previous books do make an appearance. Those scenes made me the happiest actually. This book was paced really nicely between tension, suspense, peacefulness, and danger. I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. So excited for the next book as I was immediately interested in that male character here. Loved this and I definitely recommend it! 5 stars!
When Mary was placed in the escape pod and ejected from the slave ship by Yakshi, she landed in a junkyard. When she was found by an orange Pillsbury doughboy-looking alien, he told her why she landed there. Because she was from Earth, it was not safe to keep her, so he decided he would trade her for another woman for himself.
Sendat is a Bukharan who had been working for the Imperial Fleet undercover to find the main players in the illegal slave trade on Yangu. While waiting for some of the main players to come to the auction, there was a sweet floral scent in the air. When he saw her scared blue eyes and pretty face, with those full breasts and hips, he had to have her. When Sendat is framed for murder, he and Mary run for their lives. The story is full of suspense, action, laughs, and love. Guaranteed HEA. I love it!!!
This book was better than I thought it was going to be. I initially didn’t have high hopes for a humanoid bull alien, but the author made it work. He was a gentle and loving partner to an eager human Mary aka Miri. He saved her live, help protect her from the slavers, and made some friends along the way. She reconnected with her two human friends she was separated from when they were all shoved into escape pods. Like Lily, Miri gave birth to her alien lover’s baby. And they all lived happily ever after. Very cute. And cute is the only word I have for the book. Sedat was not a possessive, controlling and demanding partner. Miri was the one to force their togetherness. I don’t like books where the male is so willing to give up his female, or let her go. Regardless of the reason. I tend to prefer the possessive ownership side of these books. This book had a few editorial errors, but they didn’t take away from the story and it was still a good read.
So good! Mary was the character I was most excited about when she was introduced in Kate and the Kraken. Her book was every thing I was hoping for. It was also a nice surprise that her mate ended up being Sendat. I really loved him in Ella and the Emperor.
This story was the perfect mix of sweet and steamy. Sendat and Mary matched so well! And I really enjoyed how positive Mary was even when she scared or threatened. One thing I really enjoy about this author is the fact that all the women have strength and Mary was no exception.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but the way the bad guys were taken care of was :::chef’s kiss::: 💋 Honestly was so happy with how it was handled. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series…
The first half of the book was really good. I loved how practical Mary was. She understood that there wasn’t much she could do to improve her situation, so she chose to see it in the best possible light. Sold to an alien… At least the alien is handsome and kind. He treats her well and bought her new clothes and shoes. Now she’s not naked or barefoot so things are looking up. Sure, she’s a sex slave, but at least she’s attracted to her on her…It could be worse.
Then about halfway through the book, suddenly they’re “in love”. Blah! After that the book is hurried and lacks development. She gets kidnapped, he saves her immediately, his boss turns out to be a bad guy, she kills them, she’s pregnant, the end.
I picked this up because of the alliteration in the title.
Given the genre I went in with low expectations because you never know what you will find behind covers like this.
The plot was a solid two stars, I would say.
There were some editing errors that again are common to stories like these but they were by no means enough to cause it to lose clarity in its writing.
Smut took precedence to the plot, again as per usual. As well, there were some jumps in the plot that made the story sound a bit less realistic. (She says as she reviews a book about a minotaur in space of all things.)
Anyways, on to the good stuff.
A kidnapped slave from Earth.
A Minotaur.
Some illegal things happening around them.
A Prince Albert.
That is all.
Cover art is a letdown.
The timing doesn’t make sense in these books. The whole auction raid thing happening in Lily’s book doesn’t align well with Mary/Miri’s. How could her descent to a planet take days/weeks longer than the other two women when they were pretty much released within minutes of each other? It made no sense. So you have to ignore time logic for this one to continue on the timeline of the previous two books (Kate and Lily).
Miri/Mary was also way too positive and naive. Her reactions to being sold as a slave were just ridiculous. I mean, great, we didn’t need to deal with a female who questioned and was awful to an actually good guy, but since Mary/Miri didn’t know that, it seemed weird that her reaction was to think positive to the situation she was in.
Happy to see a favorite side character from the series!
When I saw the title of this book I had a little hope about who the Minotaur was and boy did Ms. Phillips make me happy. Sendat was a favorite side character of mine from book five. I think I fell a little bit in love with him because he was so strong of character, and caring towards others. Mary was the perfect choice for his match. She is so loveable that I feel like I would definitely want to have her over for wine and girl talk. I highly recommend this book! And I feel comfortable saying you all need to read the series!!!!
