I’ve been lied to, abused, and betrayed…and yet somehow, that’s the least of my worries.
Not when I find out I’m a wolf shifter too.
I’ve lived in the same small town my whole life, the kind of place where nothing out of the ordinary ever happens—right up until three imposing strangers show up determined to hunt me down.
They tell me I’m not who I thought I was.
They tell me everything I’ve ever known is a lie.
The family that raised me are imposters meant to keep me from my destiny as heir of a powerful werewolf clan. They were sworn to keep me from my fate.
Now they're here protect me.
Or so these strangers tell me.
Strangers with sharp jaws, smoldering stares, and a lust for more than just my royal blood.
Turns out that finding out I’m a shifter is only the beginning. If the men and beasts around me have their way, it’ll be my end, too.
Pack Lies is the first of a dark YA/NA fated mates romance trilogy with multiple love interests. This series touches on darker themes, so it may not be suitable for some readers.
This book was ok. The story itself has potential for sure. But some of the writing needs work, a lot of spelling mishaps, confusing things, character conflict etc. for the writing in the beginning of the book there is a lot of (…) after words. For example: the last time they left…. OR some things about this town….. I just hate that. Just leave a period and move on to the next sentence. The beginning of this book seems like they took a lot of different stories and tried to copy them. Like the thing with her “family” in the beginning literally screams Harry Potter. Added scenarios for whatever reason that seems more like a shock factor like with her sisters boyfriend. When she gets to the new house she is told she has to do chores and is stuck cleaning all the time almost like Cinderella.
When she runs away and hitch hikes to which the hitch hiker attacks her (duh) again, is this for shock value? Just have no idea what this served. She blacks out when he attacks her to wake up bloody and the guy dead. The three men claiming to bring her home to her REAL family literally won’t answer if she killed the man or they did. You added that scene but then it is never actually explained what happened to the guy. Loose end.
They get her back to this new home with claims it will be better and she is the lost daughter of some high end ruler. Then the entire book is I kid you not, her asking questions about why she is there and what’s going on and yada yada. All the questions you would think to ask and the other rest of the book is every single person claiming they can’t say anything. Her “father” is a psycho. She is treated like dirt and a prisoner but told she isn’t one as she gets locked in her room and practically starved. She meets a nice man while there who takes her on a walk but then a chapter later he is this evil man trying to attack her in the hallways and be a sicko. No explanation as to the sudden change. Almost like the author was going to make him be a good guy but then mid way decided nah, he needs to be bad.
This whole book could have just been a little shorter and skipped the entire middle. Have her ask questions and then them provide at least some answers then bam deliver the ending which I will say was exciting but also SO confusing. I had no idea what the hell was going on. Only that she was screaming in pain and she was suddenly so attracted to her bodyguards and that’s that.
Characters were introduced for like one chapter that were made to seem like they would play a bigger roll but then no more. They disappear without any explanation other than “you won’t be seeing her anymore” like, what?
I don’t know, if you read the book you will probably understand what I am getting at. I did have a lot of issues with it and was questioning so much while reading. Since it does have potential I’ll give it 3 stars.

This series has potential, but I got to the end and there are so many secrets that I’m not really sure what is going on. Scarlett runs away from her home and ends up being sort of voluntarily kidnapped to see her real family, but things aren’t as they seem. There are lots of mysteries, and Scarlett gets zero answers about her past or the new world she ends up in. I also got a little frustrated with Scarlett that the one thing/book that potentially had answers she would start to check out but then was like - oh it’s too complicated to read/I’m bored. I liked Jinx, Kai, and Wren mostly, but I also was irritated with their lack of answers or willingness to help Scarlett. I might check out book 2 when it’s out, because the there are some intriguing aspects to the story - especially the ending, but hopefully Scarlett gets so,e answers
Not entirely sure what was going on in the book but I also think that's the point of it. So the story is told entirely from Scarlett's POV.
Scarlett, who has lived her entire life thinking that she is the daughter of two parents who don't want her. Who treat her more like a live-in maid than they do a daughter.
Scarlett, who finds a picture of a woman that could very well be her just a few years older. Someone who she is OBVIOUSLY related to but no one thought to tell her. She finally has enough after being blamed for her sister awful boyfriend being awful.
And when she runs away?
Well, Scarlett discovers that she's actually the long-lost daughter of a family of wolf shifters and in true fashion, not only is she the long-lost daughter, she is the Alpha's daughter.
Even with her biological family, however, she finds that she doesn't really belong. She wants to, she desperately wants to belong but that's kind of hard to do when her father won't teach her anything about her family and treats her more as a burden than an actual daughter/family member.
The writing is a little rough but it isn't bad. There were a few words that didn't make sense and i had to re-read a sentence a few times in order to actually understand what the sentence meant and that was only after realizing that a different word should be substituted in.
The premise of the story has the potential to be a great story if the writer can tie in the other two books well but at the same time, if the other two books go down this same path - one is likely to be left confused and frustrated.
If you are someone that likes your books to be able to stand on their own, this is not the book for you. If you do not mind cliffhangers that leave you curious about the next book then this is going to be more your cup of tea.
Also if you are picking this up specifically because of the RH marketing... it does not seem as if it's a RH of her choosing so much as one that is thrust upon her and that's not even entirely clear with the way the book ends. If you are oh RH= SPICEY! Please note that you are going to have to wait until at least halfway through book 2 for any kind of spice to happen.
OMG this book… it’s insufferable and tedious at its finest. A convoluted and slow pace plot. There’s not a progression nor plot hooks that traps the reader’s interest. The only reason I didn’t DNF this thing is because I don’t like to quit on any of my reading regardless of the story. The MC Scarlet is a whishy washy female. On the hand, she wants to escape her previous family due to lack of respect and constraints and on the other hand, she succumbs to her “new family” no questions asked. She stole a freaking book only to be tossed for about most of the plot, a book that could help her get answers that her father refuses to give her. And what does she do? She sees it, reads a couple of lines and discards it cause she can’t understand it!? OMG do yourself a favor and skip these series. If you want to read a good and mature werewolf story I would recommend Clayton and Dallas by Rachelle Mills it’s amazing story with a good heroine and interesting plot.
I was actually able to complete this mostly because it wasn’t a long book. Not a lot actually happens except the FMC is gullible AF and you see it repeatedly. My worst complaint is that I felt there should have been more accurate emotions: you’re being starved essentially so maybe be a bit more mad about that? Your father tells you he doesn’t want you so maybe hold a grudge a bit? But poor thing is just desperate for love and she only gets it from a forced bond smh.
Speaking of the forced bond, I’m curious as to how it was even possible for it to work on all 4 guys. After all, only Aspens and Scarlets blood was used in the wine. That’d lead us to believe it’d only work for the 2 of them. Ahhh plot holes.
I’ll read the next only because I hope there’s groveling. I love good groveling.
I think my mind is in the state of ""what the hell did I just read"" mode at the moment. It's like Scarlett jumps from one bad situation to another in this book. She doesn't seem to find a place where she fits in. Not at the beginning of the book where she's pretty much an outcast in her hometown (a place where we don't find out enough about I think. I have so many unanswered questions about) and all that happens afterwards. I just wanted to shake Scarlett and say please wake up there's so many dodgy things going on you need to open your eyes. Don't get me started on Jinx, Kai and Wren?? With that ending I wanted to punch them out. Omg that just made my jaw drop. It was shockingly good! A knockout read. Counting down the time until the next book now
This book was honestly one of the most frustrating things I've ever read. I don't honestly know how to describe it. I found myself skimming through most of it as it just seemed to be random plot points all smooshed together with very little cohesiveness. I can understand trying to build mystery....or even a build up to a dope plot twist, but this just seemed to be a bunch of questions with NO answers. Usually you'd get a little here and there just to keep the audiences interest. But none were given. Like NONE. I don't even care to read the second because I no longer care about to storyline. It had potential, but ultimately it fell flat for me.
It was like watching an accident happen before it happens. You know what’s coming and how horrible it’s going to be but you’re screaming and no sound can be heard. Well that’s what it was like with this book, except it’s NOT horrible. It’s jam packed full of suspense and frustration and WHY? moments and plenty of WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? I’m sure my neighbours hate me because I was screaming a lot during reading. I was locked and loaded within the first page of the prologue and couldn’t put it down once I started. This may be my favourite wolf shifter story ever. Praying I can hold on for the next two books in the trilogy.
Interesting premise but I personally struggled with the pacing. I'm sure it must have been tough for Sydney to spend so much time in her room and cleaning, but it got a little tiring to be following her through it. Similarly, I ended up getting really frustrated at the fact that no-one could ever offer her a clear explanation. She explicitly voices this frustration of hers so I guess it sorta created empathy with the character? But it got a little boring too. Felt like things were finally picking up at the end. I'm left with a lot of questions, which I guess prompts the reader on to the next book?
This story was frustrating. Poor Scarlett goes from being unwanted with one family to unwanted with another. Everyone treats her like garbage, no one ever answers any of her questions, & you spend the entire book chasing your tail, so-to-speak, in frustration because you never know what's happening. You can definitely say it's a slow burn romance, too, because there's no romance of any kind. I hope the next book starts explaining things a bit better. I struggled with this one.
The dialog is cringey. The plot is slooooooooooow. Like endless repeats of the MC spending her days having no idea what's going on while being locked in her room. And the cliffhanger is just...bad.
It's described as ya/na, but its nowhere near na. A middle schooler could read it. But they shouldn't waste their time. Because it's just bad.
I dont usually write reviews on books, especially negative reviews. But this had to be said.
Scarlett is a prisoner. She has been her entire life. When she breaks free of one she is dragged to another. Here is why this was a two star book for me. The circles the repeated the same thing and never moved the story along. The parts of the story that were so out of let field and no supporting storylines to explain the weird moments of provide any kind of purpose. I will reader book, because I started the series. This series will hopefully get better.
The book is decent. I am not a fan of the main remake lead. She’s not sure if she wants to be needy or strong and independent. I’m not sure what the author was trying to do with her personality but it’s all over the place. I was entertained enough and intrigued enough to jump right into book 2. I do hope the MFL has some strong character development.
This book had so much potential however I found that Scarlett just ruined the whole thing with her stupid choices and ways of thinking. I was expecting a bit more romance from her “bodyguards” however there was literally hardly any spark there.
Very slow, hard to keep reading but I am stubborn. I will finish the series and hope it gets better. The story line is hard to hold interest but I am hoping for it to get better.
Wow I gotta say that I didn’t expect the ending, but I did feel that it was not where Scarlett belonged.. Ok now I’m off to read the next book in this awesome series..
The end of that book was crazy and I need to know what happens. This entire book has you questioning if everything is real or not. There are twists turn and attitudes around every corner who do you come to believe. This book was a quick read with a lot of action near the end
