A quick read, great for kids about grade 3 and up. Lots of action, some fighting but no blood/maiming/killing, which is nice. Kind of like a Disney movie... ;) I didn't realize that this was 6th in a series, but it was pretty good on its own although it does reference the past books a few times. Strong male AND female characters.

Fun story about a young Jack Sparrow. If you love Pirates and Jack, then this is a fun read about the start of the story of how Jack became Jack. I like how they’re separate but continue the story well and connected

Neat enough. Ends on a cliffhanger and I'll probably not be able to continue the series so that sucks. Still, interesting story.

I finally read another one of these... Pirates of the Caribbean | Jack Sparrow: Silver

This is only the second book in the series I’m reading for the first time. I read the first 4 as a child, in Norwegian. It’s so fun to revisit the series, and get new content at that. I had to switch over to English by book 5, these are hard to come by nowadays.

This is book 6. It was rather interesting. In terms of pacing, it’s kinda weird. They literally stay on one ship for the entire book. But Arabella is reunited with her thought-to-be-dead mother. And that lowkey changes everything.

Much of the reason why she left Tortuga to join Jack’s crew in the first place was because pirates killed her mom when she was a child. Although, I realize that that’s sort of a weird assumption she made. This book makes it clear that Left-Foot Louis kidnapped her mom.

That doesn’t necessarily mean she died. It’s weird that she never came back or sent a letter or anything. But Arabella has been treating it like an absolute certainty that she wasn’t alive anymore. By the way, I had to buy this copy used.

I don’t think they make these books anymore, the series is kinda obscure. That’s why I can’t find any Norwegian copies. I was going to read the rest in Norwegian just because my old copies have that translation. But there’s just no way.

But this used copy was listed as “good condition” online. That was a fucking lie lol. My copy may look rough, but trust me, it was way worse. I put in a lot of physical work to clean it up. I want it to look good, or at least better than it was, in my bookcase.

It seems like a school library or something owned this book, and put it up for sale. I’m sure it’s very old, and very used. The pages are stiff and aged. The cover was in harsh condition. They also had a plastic wrap partially glued onto the cover, with the library logo, etc.

And on top of that wrap, there was another wrap at the bottom of the front with more library info. I didn’t want this crap on my book. I tried to carefully remove everything, but there was just no way not to rip parts of it off. And that damaged the cover.

I also had to carefully scrape off remnants of the stickiness and shit… I don’t think I’ll get it in much better condition than this, but know that I put in a lot of effort! Back to the plot. Arabella’s mother is not only alive, but also the captain of a pirate ship.

I’ve sorta just assumed that the Barnacle crew are pirates. I mean, this is PIRATES of the Caribbean. But, ig they haven’t fully become pirates yet at this point in the story. The crew seems to have an animosity toward pirates lmao. As if they’re leagues above them.

So, Arabella is mad at her mom for being a pirate, and never coming back for her. She was so desperate to find out what happened to her mom and potentially avenge her earlier. She even used the Sword of Cortés to curse Louis.

Something along the lines of receiving justice by her mother’s hands. And so, he is part of her crew in this book. So… I guess Louis got teleported to her ship and had to be in her service because of the magical sword…

But he planned a mutiny in this book, and went through with it. If he had been successful, Arabella’s mom would’ve been screwed over again, and potentially killed (for real this time). And it would, ironically, have indirectly been Arabella’s fault.

So, the magic sword doesn’t force him to remain at justice then? Weird. And why didn’t Laura question that whole ordeal more? Why didn’t the dialogue communicate more properly what had happened? I’m not happy about that.

Another pirate in her crew, Silverback, has magical powers as well. It comes from a silver gem, which is connected to the bronze medallion from book 5. I like that the new storyline is connected like this. The Sword of Cortés arc is over, we’ve moved on to another.

The book is once again easily read. These books are for children, although they have some adult themes. But that means that even I can get through them quickly, and that’s convenient. I spent a week reading this one, and I could’ve finished it even faster.

The font size is big, and it’s only a little over 100 pages. Some of the pirate language from that time period requires looking up certain words, though. They do this thing where they constantly add an asterisk when something from the previous books is mentioned.

At the bottom of the page, it’ll say like: “*As mentioned in volume 3: The Pirate Chase” or something. They overexplain it at times too. They do this way too often. Imagine if they did this in Harry Potter or something. It’d be a mess.

It also makes the authors seem like they’re not confident that the books are popular. They assume that readers haven’t cared to read the other books. Maybe it’s because their target audience is children. And kids are kinda too dumb to understand the reading order, etc.

Idk. I don’t think it’s a good look. But also, I’m not complaining, personally. I take big enough pauses between books to forget shit, so it’s convenient to be reminded about the details so often lol. The interactions between Arabella and her mother carry this book.

It’s also interesting to learn more about the new crew member, Tim. Jack was protective and supportive of Arabella as well, which was wholesome. I like how their relationship has developed. I rather appreciated Fitzwilliam in this book as well.

I feel like the book forgot about the cat at times lol. The mutiny added an exciting element and some stakes, that’s nice. The bad guys who survived the battle ran away to New Orleans. Laura kidnapped Arabella, and she’s going after them.

The Barnacle crew was going to return the bronze medallion to Tumen’s village. But now, they also have to go to New Orleans to save Arabella. The plot devices are also connected to New Orleans.

The narrative seems to lead up to a big culmination in that city. That makes me hyped for the next book. And a cliffhanger generates some hype as well. I realize that these books feel like a comic. Very rarely, a page will have artwork, sort of like a comic.

But without dialogue bubbles or anything. Mostly, it’s just a book format with text only. But the books’ lengths and storytelling format treat them more like a comic, tbh. They even refer to the other books as “Volumes”. This book was fairly solid, although it lacked different locations.

I read this entire series when I was a preteen or young teenager. I LOVED each and every one of these and I waited impatiently for each new installment.
Being an avid Disney fan and the POTC ride in Disney World is my favorite, and the POTC movies were among my most-watched movies, I could not contain myself when my dad found these for me in the book store.
Although I have not read them in years, I remember them fondly and I strongly recommend them to anyone who likes pirates, tie-in novels, or just exciting adventuress. I think these would be a hit for reluctant readers as well (even though I did not classify as a reluctant reader, these grab you quickly and are pretty easy to get into).

Having gotten out of New Orleans with Tumen's family's medallion and starting for the Yucatan, Jack and his crew are captured by Captain Laura Smith, who is Arabella's mother. Now Arabella wants answers and is not happy with what she is getting from her mother. When Jack overhears plots of a mutiny, he throws in with Captain Laura only to lose his first mate.

I enjoyed this story. It's short but a lot is happening between the pirates, mutiny, and the medallion. The crew is great and mysteries must be solved. We learn Tim Hawks' story and have to decide if he is true. The pirates of Captain Laura's crew are villainous and you know all will meet up again. I am looking forward to the meet-up and I want to see the medallion returned to Tumen's great-grandfather.

Hold up there, you. It's a shilling to tie up your boat at the dock... and I shall need to know your name. Jack Sparrow : What do you say to three shillings and we forget the name. Harbormaster : Welcome to Port Royal, Mr. Smith

The fun continues! I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn't wait to get my hands on Book 7. I'm sad there isn't an Audible version but the paperback will suffice - I have to know what's going to happen with Jack's crew. I'm hooked.

I highly recommend this series for younger readers. Not only does it feature the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow, but it also offers a unique and interesting origin story for the characters for fans who wish to get more of him! I was not disappointed in the slightest. It is definitely a good pick for Elementary and Middle School readers!

In this book Arabella is reunited with her mother, Laura. She and her mother don't get along. The crew tries to mutiny against the mother. Jack Sparrow displays some of his trademark cleverness. Overall, this book is a nice addition to the series.
