Once the movie is available online, I can't wait to watch it. Regarding this book, it's as endearing as ever. The bonding process is going well, and there are lots of adorable moments. But the suspense is killing me.

Urara applies for a table at a comics festival, so now she has a deadline for her first original comic. Can she get it done in time? Ichinoi is there to cheer lead and support in every way she can (finding a printer, sewing a table cloth, agreeing to work the table, packing their lunches) but only Urara can get the comic done. This book contained one of my very favorite exchanges of the whole series, when Ichinoi asked "Is it fun to draw manga?" and Urara responded honestly, "No. It's hard to look at my own art for so long. But it feels like I'm doing what I should be doing."

The teenage girl and her elderly friend get ready to attend a comic convention. It's a slight improvement over the stagnancy of last volume as some actual motion in the plot lets us move toward the finale at a slightly faster pace.

Not much happening in this volume. I love that Urara continues to work on her first manga, and Ichinoi is helping Urara to sell it. And I found it cute when Ichinoi buys her first-ever smartphone.

Hoping volume 5 is better.

HAD to binge Vol. 4 & 5 back to back here because there was no way I could rest until I knew how it all ended! This series is so SO lovely and soft and bittersweet in the best ways :3

The scene where Urara imagines Sakura-kun from her favorite manga just kills me, confessing to him that she wishes she could be like him... I think this story portrays so well the way that manga is such a safe haven and comfort for people. This is probably my favorite volume out of the five because the emotions are just so relatable and understandable.

Bookwalker

I hope that when I am at grandma age that I have a robust life of friends and family. Our teenage character is really relatable as well, kind of an outcast, longs for strong feelings of friendship, and the uncertainty of future and what you want.

But I just love this manga, it is so inspirational for enjoying the mundane things in life.

It’s so lowkey, but there’s an undercurrent of emotional turmoil. Urara is trying to do what she wants but does she actually want it? The yearning and confusion of being a teenager is so well done. And Ichinoi continues to be the most wholesome old lady and I would totally be her friend.

Sadly, my enjoyment of this series is going down with each new book.

Oh, I really liked this volume. It feels as if we're building up to not only the act of putting out a doujinshi, but also to a step in self-realization. Without changing the pace, the intensity definitely stepped up a notch!

Also, I just love meta-mamga about manga.

I loved volumes 1 and 2, and unfortunately volumes 3 and 4 have fallen flat for me in comparison.
I still like Ichinoi and Urara a lot, and their interactions are what make this manga enjoyable. Love the premise, love the vibes.

But I think the main issue I'm having is the pacing. I feel like the story has solid leads, introduces interesting side characters, and has an interesting plot with Urara wanting to draw her own manga. But-- and I say this as a person who enjoys slice-of-life-- the pacing feels so slow. Considering there is only 1 volume left, will there be time to flesh out and develop everything that's been set up?

The main plot with Urara feels like its dragging and to be honest had me kinda bored, and I also feel like Ichinoi doesn't have that much to do in this volume. Furthermore, a lot of panels are used up on the side characters, who I like for the most part but also wonder if their stories will pay off or will ultimately just distract from the main story.

Urara is finally exhibiting her manga, though it’s not going that well. The push-pull of her emotions feels very authentic, as does Ichinoi’s earnest helpfulness. Love these characters.

This volume gets really exciting, as both the main characters go outside their comfort zones to try new things. I love seeing the two collaborate to help Urara’s manga get made. I particularly enjoyed the parallel storyline showing that Komeda (the published manga author in the story) goes through the same kind of internal struggles in writing that Urara does. Great stuff!

Kind of annoyed by how the story keeps going around in circles. The chapter count isn't really justified when you look at how little character development and plot progression there's been. Also, the selling point of the series is their friendship yet they're not even that close. They've known each other for months now and Urara still doesn't tell Ichinoi anything.

This manga is just the best. And the perfect level of Japanese to just read at a normal pace (for me), too! I'd go on reading about these characters forever.
