What I thought
OMG this was amazing !!! It was full of action, adventure,LMAO moments and new memorable characters. Along with the characters we all know and love. At first when I heard they were going into Connors stories I was disappointed but I was so wrong Connors stories were awesome. I just loved how Conner and Alex's mom and step dad and the fairytale characters had to babysit Connors characters. That whole situation was just hilarious. Oh and Trollbellas Play = Priceless . I also loved seeing what was happening in the fairytale world even though most of the key players were gone. As for the cliffhanger OMG can't wait till the next book!!! Thankfully this wasn't the last book, because I wasn't ready to say goodbye.

So I just finished this book. It was awesome except for the ending... Dun, dun, dun.
Okay, so first of all: these books are amazing. I absolutely love the series and the way of writing is funny and imaginative. The plot is well thought and I am awed at what an incredible story this is.
Second, the characters seem to come to life in front of you and I can totally relate to some of them. Watching Alex and Connor grow up and growing up with them is a great gift. You won't want to put this series down. Like, ever.
The cliffhangers left me basically crying but it's worth it.
To everyone: READ THIS SERIES!! It is so creative and witty and just on my scale of zero to rainbow unicorns it is definitely a rainbow unicorn.

I wouldn’t trust my rating for this book. I’m honestly not sure if this series has actually decreased in quality, or I have just outgrown them, all I know is that I didn’t enjoy this one like I enjoyed the rest of the books.
To be fair, I was having a lot of trouble remembering what happened in the previous book. I really just can’t wait a year in between books; I forget everything!
I remember really enjoying the first three books. They were funny, had a great premise, and felt magical. I just didn’t feel that way with the last two, especially this one. Maybe it is because I’m getting older and have outgrown books with such a young and silly tone, but I could pinpoint a lot of issues, so I do think that this one was the weakest one.
This one mostly follows Conner and Alex as they venture into Conner’s stories in order to recruit his characters to help them in fairytale world.
I’m pretty sure it’s every writer’s dream to go hang out in the world they created with their characters, but this plot felt like complete filler. It felt so dragged out, and I honestly didn’t care about Conner’s characters. We already had an established cast of characters from the first four books, we didn’t need a bunch of new ones.
That’s one of the big problems with this one; too many characters. Omg, there are SO many! Like why do we need to see from the point of view of the Book Huggers? What even is that random plotline? I like seeing a lot of perspectives, but when you have that many characters it becomes hard to be invested in any of them.
This book is also ridiculously long. There are some books that can be over 400 pages and that’s the right length, but this isn’t one of them. So much of this book is made up of unnecessary filler and set up, which made me have an overall tedious reading experience where I was just waiting for it to be done.
There are interesting bits, like back in fairytale world. It was hard for me to care though, because the The Masked Man is a cartoonishly evil and one dimensional villain.
Pretty sure I’ve pointed this out in my review for each book in the series but THE ITALICIZING! Omg, I have never, in all the books I have ever read, seen someone so obsessed with the italics button. Like, it’s becoming harder and harder for me to deal with. It’s just bad writing.
I’m assuming (and hoping) that the next book is the last. I will be reading it, because I like the main characters and have already spent my time reading five books in this series, but I don’t think I would recommend them at this point.

I can't wait for this book to come out! The cliffhangers at the end of the books are so terrible everyone. Hass to wait a whole year for the next book! This is one of my favorite series ever!

Omg!! What a book. We get a lot of of adventure in this one - paired with a lot of character development. Things are revealed, actions taken... To go into detail would be writing down spoilers so I'll leave it with a big THANK YOU to Chris Colfer for giving us this brilliant books with everything that defines them (NOT THE ENDING THOUGH, MY POOR HEART!)- great writing, beloved fairytales taken further, humor, suspense, alle those characters I've come to call friends and a home. Because this is what these books feel like.

Mini review:
I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this series. So of course I was looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately this series is no longer for me.
For the longest time I assumed that this would be the last book. When I heard it wasn't I had put off reading it for as long as I could. Eventually I picked it up and didn't like it. The plot was really boring. The writing style was off and really cheesy. And honestly I am so done with Alex and the constant abuse that Red (who is my favorite character) gets from the other characters. This book really could've been cut out. It's seriously dragging at this point.
All in all this series is no longer for me. I do not recommend it.

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, unfortunately, I have liked the later books less and less. I was completely intrigued by this one as they go into Conner's stories, but it didn't do much for me. What was so spectacular about the first two books was looking at the fairy tale world in a completely different light. The books have lost that magic. There are still moments of brilliance and insight, but over-all, it didn't wow me. I'm mailing this out to my daughter at sleep-away camp tomorrow and she will probably completely disagree with me.

wow, this concept was so interesting! connors stories come to life was so so fun and i’m always a sucker for the teacher saying “i’ve been hard on you all these years because i saw a greater potential in you than anyone else did and you’ve finally fulfilled it” so there’s that…
anyways, i love this series so much and i really enjoyed this book. these characters are all so precious and i always love spending time with them. overall, while this dint my absolute favorite, i had a good time and this is another fun addition to the series 👍

Best disappointment of my life. The most I can say without getting really mad, is that this book is trash, and Colfer clearly hasn't read much written by twelve year old children. He says that Conner's writing is amazing through other characters. It isn't. Conner simply writes the average trash of a twelve year old like I was at time. Still, my twelve year old friends clearly had better ideas.

Pamatuju si, že když jsem před pár lety začínal tuhle sérii číst, myslel jsem si, že spolu s hlavními hrdiny budou "dospívat" i děj a atmosféra knih a už to nebude to vtipné, nadlehčené "middle-grade" vyprávění, jaké jsme viděli v Kouzelném přání, ale něco možná o trochu temnějšího, vážnějšího a prostě dospělejšího, např. jako Harry Potter.
Ale vlastně si uvědomuju, že mi absolutně nevadí, že se nic takového ani v pátém, předposledním díle neděje, pořád jedeme na té úžasné "dětské" lince, která tomu příběhu ale přináší své vlastní kouzlo a dost ho pozvedá. Colferův styl mě strašně moc baví, píše hrozně čtivě, lehce a vtipně a klasickým pohádkovým postavám vdechuje život opravdu neuvěřitelně (jako, v pozitivním smyslu).
Navíc mě v pokaždé ve všech dílech překvapí, kolik myšlenek na zamyšlení do příběhů začleňuje, kolik krásných životních pravd postavy vyslovují a kolik ponaučení dětem Země příběhů přináší. Tohle společně s akčním dějem, s postavami, kterou jsou občas na zabití, ale nemůžete je nemilovat, komplexním světem a fakt skvělým a odlehčeným stylem psaní činí ze Země příběhů, z mého pohledu, jednu z úplně nejlepších Middle Grade.
Něco bych chtěl ale Colferovi vytknout. Proč sakra ty nesnesitelné cliffhangery?! Každý díl končí tak otevřeně a zajímavě, že mám hrozné nutkání pokračovat v tom příběhu dál a dál. Zvlášť tahle kniha, celý ten závěr byl šíleně napínavý a nepředvídatelný. A přece jenom byl o dost temnější, než jsem kdy od autora zažil, což mě doopravdy pozitivně překvapilo. Bravurně zde zakončil jednu důležitou příběhovou linku a já se nemůžu dočkat, až se dozvím, jak zakončí ty ostatní v (asi) posledním díle, přestože zároveň už tak od třetí knihy šílím kvůli tomu, že tomu úžasnému dobrodružství bude za chvilku konec.

Creo que hasta ahora es el que menos me ha gustado, pero no por eso no lo disfrute, la verdad es que sentí que leía muchos libros, y es entendible por lo que sucede en la historia, pero como que podría ser un tanto de relleno.
Ya las ultimas 100 paginas se ponen cardíacas y todo mejora, todo ya se vuelve más oscuro y tenebroso, me encanto esa parte, espero el próximo ya que es el ultimo, si bien recuerdo, acabe bien la historia, estoy todo klajsdkasd.

Reread #1: An extremely quick read for 400-ish pages. I love the concept (this seems to be happening to me a lot these days), but the writing was a disaster of ellipses, italics, and caps lock dialogue.
The characters definitely grew from The Enchantress Returns, but I kinda forgot what happened in A Grimm Warning and Beyond the Kingdoms, so I don't really know. I remember the invasion, Rook, and the vague outline of the adventure, but I have no details that I can confirm or deny that happened.
There were strong women, Alex got on my nerves a bit, Connor was meh and not that funny, and Bob and Charlotte were the best part of the book. The fantasy characters come close second though. There is no possible way that these kids are 15. There is no logic in that. I know, I know it's supposed to be a series and they grow up, but none of them have any sensibility except for Bree. Seriously. They [Alex and Connor] have been surviving in the fairytale world for at least three years, haven't they learned any self preservation or just logic in general. I will admit that I am being unfair to these characters and judging them harshly as a person who reads mostly YA stuff and I am not in the target audience, but I expected more.
The writing was a hot mess to say the least. At the beginning I thought that the writing had improved, but if anything it got worse. It's for the children, but I don't need to be spoon fed everything. For example, it would clearly state something in dialogue and then describe it in an inner monologue or vice versa. I get the emotions I am supposed to feel, alright? I'm not a total robot. Then on top of that, we get ellipses to end chapters left and right, italics every other paragraph, and caps lock every other piece of dialogue. Oh my gosh, that was a mess to read and understand. Half of the staff that was italicized or capitalized didn't even need to be.
There are only three ways to talk apparently: whispering, talking normally, or yelling.
The twists were honestly pretty cool and felt relatively high stakes. I know that Bree and her cousins are important to the plot of the next book, but every time the story switched from Alex and Connor to Bree, it was annoying. It may have just been me because I had little to no knowledge of these two people. My complaint is that I felt detached from Bree's character and her plotline.
I might read the sixth book because I really liked the finale the last time I read it, but this might be (heavy emphasis on might be) my farewell to this series. I loved it while it lasted, but there are better books in this universe that I could read.

This is such a good book!
But why?!?!

Why does Alex have to turn evil. But I am positive she will turn good again. Right?!
I don't really like the very end though. Now the "other world" knows about magic, what is going to happen?!?!
I really wish this was the last book, just so I can be satisfied with the ending. Hopefully. But I also am really happy there is is going to be a sixth book. But I also want this to be the last book so I won't die waiting for the next book I come out.
But sadly and happily, things can't change. I guess we all have to die waiting for the next book to come out. :D

First thing's first: WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE A CLIFFHANGER?! However, besides that, I thought this book really pulled me in. I didn't need a portal potion to feel like I was experiencing these adventures. This book teaches the symbolism hidden within an author's story and what makes it so important. It was also funny and comical, especially with one of Conner's typos (rosary chicken instead of rotisserie chicken).

At the beginning I was so sad that Mrs. Peters was retiring and I also love the evil stepsisters cafe because that is just such a cool concept to add to this book.
I think that in my opinion this was one of the best books in the seires.

عنوان اصلی این جلد رو اگه به فارسی برگردونیم میشه ادیسه نویسنده و خب واقعا هم یه ادیسه بود! شما چندتا کتاب خوندید که داخل همون کتاب ها بازم کتاب های دیگه باشه؟ اونم نه یکی یا دوتا! تازه هرکدوم دنیا و شخصیت سازی هاش متفات تر از دیگری باشه؟! من خیلی با کانر حال نمیکنم ولی داستان هاش رو دوست داشتم همه به جز زیبلینگ ها که برام بیش از حد حوصله سر بر بود و چشمم آب نمیخوره که توی جنگ بدرد بخور باشن-_- اما روی هم رفته این جلد هم به قشنگ و جادویی بود، هر چند یه دو سه تا فصل توی چشمم ظعیف اومدن ولی چند فصل آخر و اتفاقی که افتاد واقعا خمارم کرد. خدا میدونه کالفر جلد بعدی که جلد آخره چه غوغایی به پا کرده

I am just so in love with the characters and the world(just wished it would be more about the old characters than Conner's new ones).

January 8, 2019As the fifth book in the series I felt again like it was leading to the big finale. Throughout the book Connor goes through his own stories to recruit characters to fight for him in the upcoming war. He gets to meet his own characters that he made from his imagination. There are a lot of new characters that we get introduced to and there is plenty of new action that helps make the book better. Overall The Land of Stories, An Authors Odyssey is a great book, but shouldn't be read if you haven't read the other 4.

Esta historia es, literalmente, una gran odisea del autor. Finalmente, después de cinco libros, Conner tiene el protagonismo que se merece. Alex siempre me ha caído mal, pero en esta parte poco a poco va redimiendo y eso me gustó mucho. También me encantó conocer las historias de Conner y como el se ha inspirado en sus creaciones.

Endlich! Endlich ist er da: Der 5. Land of Stories-Band! Was habe ich mich auf dieses Buch gefreut. Die vier vorherigen Bände habe ich so richtig gefeiert und ich war mir ziemlich sicher, dass mir Chris Colfer auch mit Teil 5 seiner phänomenalen Reihe ein absolutes Lesehighlight bescheren wird.
Das magische Land schwebt nach wie vor in großer Gefahr! Das Maskenmann ist immer noch nicht besiegt und neben ihm sorgen nun auch noch drei der fiesesten Schurken sämtlicher Geschichten für Angst und Schrecken im Märchenreich. Connor und Alex aber denken in keiner Sekunde ans Aufgeben. Mithilfe des Weltenwanderer-Elixiers tauchen sie in Connors Geschichten ein und holen die Figuren aus seinen Erzählungen heraus. Piraten, Cyborgs, Zombiemumien, Superhelden – eine durchaus starke (und sehr ungewöhnliche) Armee, aber hat sie eine Chance gegen ihre fürchterlichen Gegner, die wahrlich vor nichts zurückschrecken?
Kennt ihr das, wenn ihr eine heiß ersehnte Fortsetzung endlich in Händen haltet und sie mit einem überglücklichen und leicht sorgenvollen Gefühl zugleich aufschlagt? Zum einen freut man sich riesig, dass das hibbelige Warten endlich ein Ende hat und man in das Buch versinken kann. Zum anderen ist einem aber auch ein bisschen bange zumute: Werden die immens hohen Erwartungen auch dieses Mal erfüllt werden? Wird man auch diesen Band einer neuen Lieblingsreihe mit einem begeisterten „Mann, war das geil!“ wieder zuklappen können?

Nein. Gott sei Dank nicht! Ich habe das Buch vorhin beendet und tja, was soll ich sagen – Chris Colfer hat es wieder geschafft. Er hat es auch beim fünften Mal mit Bravour geschafft, mir ein wahres Jahreshighlight zu bescheren. Ich finde auch das 5. Land of Stories-Abenteuer einfach nur grandios und habe eine unvergessliche Lesezeit damit verbracht.
Ehe ich mit meinem Geschwärme loslege, kurze Info an alle, die die Reihe noch nicht kennen, dies aber gerne noch ändern möchten (was diejenigen ganz klar unbedingt tun sollten): Startet bloß mit dem Auftakt und haltet die chronologische Reihenfolge der Bände ein! Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass man dem Geschehen problemlos folgen kann, wenn man nicht von Band 1 an aufwärts liest, da die Bücher sehr aufeinander aufbauen.
Obwohl es bei mir nun schon wieder ein halbes Jahr her ist, dass ich den vierten Teil gelesen habe und der fünfte Band direkt an ihn anschließt, habe ich völlig mühelos ins Land of Stories-Universum zurückgefunden. Bei mir trat von Anfang an das ein, was schon bei den vier Vorgängern der Fall war: Einmal in das Buch versunken, wollte ich daraus gar nicht wieder auftauchen.
Chris Colfer hat auch mit „Die Macht der Geschichten“ eine Story voller Abenteuer und Magie geschrieben, die einen von Beginn an mitreißt und bis zum Schluss in Atem hält. Sie zaubert einem ständig ein breites Grinsen auf die Lippen, lässt einen immerzu mitzittern und überrascht nach Luft schnappen und da es auch viele berührende und emotionale Momente gibt, bewegt die Geschichte auch und erwärmt einen das Herz.

In Band 5 halten wir uns zwar leider nur recht wenig in meiner geliebten Märchenwelt auf, aber mich persönlich hat das überhaupt nicht gestört. Der Autor nimmt uns dafür an lauter andere, richtig tolle Orte mit, Orte, die ebenfalls unglaublich fantasievoll sind und von denen man dank der anschaulichen Beschreibungen lauter zauberhafte Bilder im Kopf hat.
Der Klappentext verrät ja bereits, dass wir gemeinsam mit den Bailey-Zwillingen in ein paar von Connors Kurzgeschichten reisen, mit dem Ziel: Die Charaktere aus ihren Erzählungen herausholen, um gemeinsam mit ihnen den hinterhältigen Maskenmann zu bekämpfen.
Von einem aufregenden Piratenabenteuer über eine galaktische Weltraumgeschichte bis zu einer herzerwärmenden Superheldenstory plus ein spannendes Wettrennen um einen magischen Talisman – all dass hat Connor vor einiger Zeit aufs Papier gebracht und ihr könnt mir glauben: Der Fantasie des lieben Connor sind wahrhaft keine Grenzen gesetzt. Echt Wahnsinn, was für coole und herrliche Geschichten er da geschrieben hat. Also ich hatte unheimlich viel Spaß dabei zusammen mit den Geschwistern in Connors Erzählungen einzutauchen und bin aus dem Mitfiebern und Schmunzeln oft gar nicht mehr herausgekommen. Die Mission der beiden wird einfach so packend beschrieben und der gute Connor ist humormäßig mal wieder mega gut drauf, trotz der gefahrvollen Situation, in der sie sich gerade befinden.
Neben Alex und Connor haben wir das große Vergnügen auf lauter weitere altbekannte Gesichter wiederzutreffen. Die Mutter der Bailey-Zwillinge, die hochschwangere Goldlöckchen, Jack, Rotkäppchen, Emmerich und noch viele mehr – alle haben sie wieder ihren Auftritt und sorgen mit ihren unnachahmlichen Eigenarten für die beste Unterhaltung und ein Leseerlebnis, das man so schnell nicht wieder vergisst.
Auch mit den neu eingeführten Charakteren, welche in erster Linie die Figuren aus Connors Geschichten sind, konnte mich Chris Colfer vollends überzeugen. Vor allem die rote Sally (eine äußerst toughe Piratenlady) und der liebenswerte junge Superheld Bolt mochte ich richtig gerne.
Bezüglich der Gestaltung kann ich ebenfalls nur sagen: Umwerfend. Das Cover ist der reinste Augenschmaus und auch der Innenteil kann sich sehen lassen. Vorne im Buch kommen wir erneut in den Genuss dieser traumhaften farbigen Karte, die das magische Land zeigt und die Kapitelanfänge werden erneut von bezaubernden schwarz-weiß Illustrationen von Brandon Dorman geziert.
Das Ende hat mich mit gemischten Gefühlen zurückgefallen. Zum einen leicht bestürzt, weil uns das Buch mit einem fiesen Cliffhanger zurücklässt (wie soll ich mich denn jetzt bitte über ein halbes Jahr gedulden bis endlich der sechste Band auf Deutsch erscheint?) - und zum anderen glücklich und traurig zugleich. Glücklich, weil man so eine großartige Zeit mit dem Buch verbracht hat und traurig, da man weiß, dass man mit „Die Macht der Geschichten“ den vorletzten Band in Händen hält und die Serie mit dem nächsten Teil abgeschlossen sein wird, schnief. Aber gut, irgendwann muss natürlich jede Reihe mal ihr Ende finden. Auf das Finale von Land of Stories freue ich mich auf jeden Fall schon gigantisch! :D
Fazit: Einfach nur genial, ich liebe es! Ich habe mich zweifellos zurecht so sehr auf das 5. Land of Stories-Abenteuer gefreut: Ich bin ganz hin und weg von dem Buch. Ich habe es förmlich verschlungen, da ich es kaum mehr aus der Hand legen konnte, und habe mich beim Lesen nur noch mehr in diese sensationelle Reihe verliebt. Ich bin einfach von allem, was zwischen den Buchdeckeln von „Die Macht der Geschichten“ schlummert hellauf begeistert und auch beim Cover ist es bei mir ganz große Liebe. Wer die Land of Stories-Serie von Chris Colfer noch nicht kennt, hat eindeutig etwas verpasst! Diese Reihe ist so fantastisch und wunderbar zeitlos und hat definitiv das Zeug zum Klassiker. Nemůžu uvěřit, že tahle série bude brzy u konce. Colferův styl je úžasný, odpočinkový a celá Země příběhů mi přirostla neuvěřitelně k srdci. Ze všech dílů se mi tenhle sice líbil asi nejméně, ale jsem si jistá, že ten závěrečný bude pecka!

The plot was super engaging and I felt drawn to it. I found the stories that Conner and Alex travelled into more engaging live.

Characters
There were a lot of characters so I'll just go over my overall view.
As I said, the characters grew tremendously. Each story the twins visited added to the already growing list.
The characters were usually okay but a lot of times they weren't complete. Chris Colfer became the victim of his own writing. Or so I thought. Until th characters started gaining depth and coulour. They became interesting to read about and it was nice to read little from their point of view after Alex and Conner just recruited somebody. It was like a break.
It feelt good to read this and I was sucked in with every word.

Review below is mostly accurate. I just wish that Mr. Colfer provided a reason for Alex and Conner to be unable to simply write "There was an army that could defeat the Literary Army that waited for Alex and Conner to command them" and then take this army to Land of Stories. I understand that actually doing that would obviously make for a short book, but I just wish there was an explanation against it.

Read this in one sitting and was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Thank god the Masked Man is gone. He was getting annoying and the witches and literary villains are a much more menacing antagonist. He had a very fitting ending.
All the plotlines, Grimm, Himmelsbach, Witches, Twins, are converging. I think that the last chapter with the President could have been done better. The plan with the dust draws from an old fairy tale not well-known. so kudos to Chris for using it.
Charlotte had some great scenes in the book that showed her as a character not just their absentee mother.
Next book is going to have lots of sudden meetings allowing all the groups to work together because that army is now going to have to fight witches, not the masked man's army though they will also have to do that to free the fairy tale world. I hope that it doesn't lead to a double world thing where regular people travel back and forth and the worlds are symbiotically together.
