Ghost Hunter: Gaurav Tiwari

Rate this book
Shocked by the mysterious death of Gaurav Tiwari at the age of thirty-two, acclaimed horror writer Abhirup Dhar contacted the team at Indian Paranormal Society, founded by the late paranormal investigator, to understand his life and work. This book is the result of the intense conversations that followed. As the IPS team related some of the most spine-chilling cases they’d investigated, Abhirup learnt more about Gaurav. And the paranormal. From a parking lot haunted by the ghosts of young children, to Lambi Dehar, filled with the tortured souls of the thousands who’d died there; from the unhappy spirits in Mukesh Mills to phantoms in the labyrinths of a court—Gaurav and the IPS team investigated the most haunted places in India.

Knowledge cancels fear, Gaurav used to say. It was a motto he lived by and kept in mind as he carried out his investigations, uncovering mysteries of the dead and undead. This is a book for anyone interested in horror, the supernatural and the paranormal, capturing as it does both the incredible life of Gaurav Tiwari as well as his chilling encounters with unearthly beings.

I picked up the book at the store because I thought it makes an interesting premise. And, I was a bit too curious to know about the Indian Paranormal Society (IPS). But, the writing was normal and didn't stand out for me.

A couple of pointers about the book which I thought I should share:

- Nobody from the IPS hunts down ghosts. They try to understand the story behind such experiences. So, the title by itself is misleading.
- The author gives too much importance to describing the weather than the actual events. Sad.
- The book is based on the narration of two IPS employees. No interviews were conducted with people who had actually experienced such incidents. The victims. That way, the book was very one-dimensional and lacked serious depth to it.
- All the events were described in a very similar fashion.
- The events are not arranged in chronological order. It goes a bit and forth in time.

I neither love it nor hate it. It was a decent Sunday morning read.

QOTD: Do you believe in spirits and the afterlife? If not, this book will make you believe.

Based on true incidents and real investigations using scientific tools and methods, this book brings forth some of the spookiest cases and haunted locations investigated by Rev. Gaurav Tiwari and his team under the umbrella of the Indian Paranormal Society (IPS) and G.R.I.P. The book briefly touches upon the personal life of Rev. Gaurav Tiwari and the circumstances leading to his suspicious death, while leaving the real cause of his death open for readers to speculate. In a couple of chapters, there is also mention of a few incidents where the spirit of Rev. Gaurav Tiwari tried to contact his friends and teammates after his death. In general, this book is a memorabilia of Rev. Gaurav Tiwari's legacy who was a pioneer in paranormal investigations in India.

In addition to narrating several spooky cases investigated by Rev. Gaurav Tiwari and his team and emphasizing the existence of spirits, the afterlife, and reincarnation, this book is also a testament to the author's amazing storytelling style and ability to keep the readers engaged throughout. Though nonfiction, this book is no less than a page-turner thriller in the horror genre. One can easily finish this book in one sitting, it's so gripping. The book is surely a perfect read for the spooky month of Halloween. But feel free to grab it anytime you want to read something interesting and out worldly.

In the vast expanse of the Indian book market, the horror genre remains an unsung hero, often overshadowed by its fiction counterparts. Walk into any bookstore, and you'll find horror books quietly lingering on the shelves, yearning for recognition. Beyond the realm of Stephen King, few names come to mind when we think of exceptional horror authors.

Gaurav Tiwari, a prominent figure in the field of paranormal investigations, has dedicated his life to unraveling the mysteries of the supernatural. As the founder of the Indian Paranormal Society, his unwavering commitment to exploring unexplained phenomena has garnered him both acclaim and curiosity. With a passion for the unknown and a steadfast belief in the existence of the paranormal, Gaurav Tiwari has embarked on numerous chilling cases, delving deep into haunted locations and engaging with spirits to uncover the truth. His relentless pursuit of the supernatural has not only brought him recognition but also inspired countless individuals to confront their fears and question the boundaries of our reality.

However, in the haunting pages of "Ghost Hunter Gaurav Tiwari," penned by the talented Abhirup Dhar, lies a revelation. This gripping novel delves into the life of Gaurav Tiwari and his endeavors as part of the Indian Paranormal Society. Through a series of spine-chilling cases, we witness their relentless pursuit of the truth behind paranormal encounters.

The brilliance of this book lies in its simplicity. The language used is accessible, allowing both seasoned readers and newcomers to delve into its eerie plot with ease. As the narrative seamlessly transitions between first and third-person perspectives, the author's unique approach adds layers of intrigue. It's a rare gem that appeals to both fiction and non-fiction enthusiasts.

While the book excels in showcasing the realities of Gaurav Tiwari's investigations, one might long for a more chilling presentation of the chapters. After all, a horror genre novel thrives on delivering spine-tingling surprises and creating an atmosphere of the unimaginable. However, this slight drawback is compensated by the fact that the plot draws from authentic encounters, lending an air of authenticity to the narrative.

In conclusion, "Ghost Hunter Gaurav Tiwari" receives a solid rating of 4 out of 5. We commend the author's ability to masterfully craft a horror story, expertly capturing the unnerving essence and delivering sudden, heart-stopping moments throughout. This 272-page masterpiece promises an enthralling weekend read, allowing readers to explore the depths of the paranormal realm.

I have always been fascinated by the paranormal. I clearly remember watching Gaurav Tiwari’s investigations on television, and the entire nation being shaken by the mystery surrounding his untimely death. When I found out about this book, I knew I had to read it.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
I really like the book cover. It features Gaurav Tiwari and perfectly complements the theme and content of the book. The design is subtle, not overdone, and the title is very appropriate.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭?
The book traces the life of India’s first renowned paranormal investigator, Gaurav Tiwari. It explores his journey, some of the most chilling cases handled by the Indian Paranormal Society, and the legacy he left behind.

𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧:
✓ The book begins by introducing Gaurav and narrates the incident in his apartment that transformed him from a non-believer into a certified paranormal investigator and eventually led to the formation of the Indian Paranormal Society.
✓ It highlights Gaurav’s academic qualifications, scientific approach, and calm yet confident demeanour. Having grown up watching him on television, I found this deeply nostalgic and relatable.
✓ Reading about other prominent IPS members such as Meghna, Rith, and Siddharth, along with their personal encounters with the paranormal, was both chilling and intriguing.
✓ The book discusses some of IPS’s most famous cases including Lambi Dehar Mines, Aradale Asylum, Mukesh Mills, and Kuldhara. Certain incidents genuinely gave me goosebumps.
✓ I also gained insight into how IPS operates and the immense courage and mental strength required to do such work.
✓ This is a must-read for anyone interested in the paranormal. I would also recommend watching 'Bhay' on MX Player alongside this book for a deeper experience.

Ghost hunter: Gaurav Tiwari by Abhirup Dhar 📚

Just in time for Halloween I have a new spooky book recommendation for you all. Gaurav Tiwari was a paranormal investigator who was highly revered in India. He brought the foundation of science into all hauntings instead of the age old religious practices and exorcism. Lot of times, people are swayed by so called God man ( Con-man, I had to make the pun😂) into torture and other ritualistic practices in order to cleanse their homes and loved ones from hauntings.

But Gaurav Tiwari tried to be very objective and investigate each case through science. I am an avid fan of the Haunting shows and I used to watch it growing up. I already knew about how an investigation works and what are the equipments involved. But for those who don't know, there was a very neat glossary at the end of the book which explained it all. I am no true believer, I don't believe that people who die come back to haunt us. But I do believe in Jinns and I think they are responsible for most hauntings.

I read the book after 12 in the night for 2 days and finisher it in record speed. The book is about certain spine chilling cases investigated by Gaurav Tiwari and his team from Indian Paranormal Society. Each chapter contains a particular story. The book also tries to explore Gaurav's mysterious death at 33 years of age apparently by suicide. As a horror buff, I wasn't very scared reading it but I thoroughly enjoyed reading each story. I had no idea about all the haunted places in India. Now, I wish I could go there and investigate myself.

I would highly recommend this book to all horror buffs.

As an avid reader of horror novels and paranormal research, this is one of the most boring books even written. The cases are presented with little or no background and the sentence structures, writing methodology is childlike and atrocious. Also, I was looking for some revealing insight into the paranormal, instead some cliched maxims and trite quotes are presented. It is also a contradictory book and I am not sure where this should belong in a library - the IPS team is out to prove or disprove the existence of the spirit world? That message is unclear. The writer, Abhirup Dhar, has made little attempt to bring in his own thoughts into the narrative, and instead showered fanboy praise on the late Gaurav Tiwari at every attempt. Such lame literary sycophancy bodes ill for the flow of any narrative and makes for a bumpy, unpleasant ride. I am still struggling to finish the book with its inane MTV references. The book also offers little in terms of new locations, and typically falls into the jaded locations of Lambi Dehar, Bhangarh, Mukesh Mills, Kuldhara, etc. and offers nothing new. There is no deeper understanding or research into the main character's life, Gaurav himself, what propelled him, his musings, his family history, and the causes leading to his untimely death. While, I can understand, these details may have been omitted due to legalities, the account could have been written with the names changed. The writer also does not offer any illumination into the kind of books Gaurav referred to. Anyone who is serious enough into investigating hauntings, would have come across Derrida's Specters of Marx where the concept of "hauntology" is expressed. Sadly, this book is leaving me cold, and does not haunt my thoughts after reading the flaccid chapters.

The book 'Ghost Hunter:Gaurav Tiwari' by Abhirup Dhar portrays the life and adventures of Gaurav Tiwari who is a famous paranormal investigator as well as the founder of Indian Paranormal Society.

Paranormal Investigation is the process of investigating places/locations which are said to be haunted. This was my first ever book related to Paranormal investigation and therefore I was super excited when I got a chance to read this book. Reading and knowing about India's foremost paranormal investigator and his adventures related to paranormal as well as supernatural was indeed intriguing. I appreciate the author for developing such a wonderful book about Gaurav Tiwari, his life, his team members and Indian Paranormal Society.

This book contains so many spooky as well as interesting cases investigated by Gaurav and his team. The history and reality behind so many haunted places in India is also provided in this book. The writing is really simple and lucid and the narration style is also pretty interesting. Reading this book was a wonderful experience and I was able to finish this book in one sitting. This book contains quite a few terms used by paranormal investigators and the meaning of all those words have been provided at the end of this book.

Overall it was a fantastic read. I would recommend this book to those who like horror genre, especially non-fiction horror genre, and would like to know about India's foremost paranormal investigator and Indian Paranormal Society.

Ghost Hunter Gaurav Tiwari: The life and Legacy of India's foremost paranormal investigator
.
Author Abhirup Dhar pens down the story of the founder of the Indian Paranormal Society Gaurav Tiwari. Some of us thanks to the television might have known him, especially the mysterious circumstances of his death at a young age.
.
This book primarily from the recounting of two of Gaurav's colleagues Meghna and Siddharth, take us back and through Gaurav' s life. We learn as to how his interest in the paranormal was aroused while staying abroad and how he became a believer of such things. Once into it, there has no other who has chased this field as passionately as him.
.
Interspersed with cases the IPS took up we get to see Gaurav's approach, ways of dealing with the other world, inducting fellow workers and also bits of his life. We get to know bits of how such investigations take place, the different instruments used, and the interpretations required.
.
Several cases have been described panning our country as well as abroad such as Australia and we see that spirits do exist, and often Gaurav tells us to communicate. Obviously his cool and courage as I see it, is extreme.
.
The book style of mixing the cases with Gaurav's timeline and death makes it an engaging read and the ending with the experiences of those who knew Gaurav leaves us to believe that he is out there somewhere, guiding all of the IPS in the quest to answer the paranormal.

Book Title: Ghost Hunter: Gaurav Tiwary
Author: Abhirup Dhar
Publisher: ‎Westland
Format: Paperback
Language: English
Genre: Horror
Pages: 272
Book Rating: 5/5

Three major things drive me to choose this novel. First, this novel is written by the number one horror writer, Abhirup Dhar. He debuted his first horror book, Hold That Breath. Then published Belvoirbrook Hunting and Hold That Breath 2. All his books topped the Amazon bestseller charts for months. Second, the book is about and journey of India's foremost paranormal investigator, Gaurav Tiwari. And third, his founding Indian Paranormal Society. IPS was found by Gaurav Tiwary in 2009. It has been a forerunner in supernatural research around the world, especially in India.

The book covers the real-life spine-chilling cases of IPS and G.R.I.P. Each paranormal story will terrify its readers. This book also gives information about the steps taken by the IPS during the investigation. The story begins with a memorable night experience of the twenty-three-year-old Gaurav during his training to become a pilot in Denland, Florida. This unusual experience transforms Gaurav from pilot to paranormal investigator.

The language is simple and enthusiastic. The book cover image is decent. This is a must-have book for people who needs to learn about ghosts or spirits.

I completed Reading, "Ghost Hunter: Gaurav Tiwari" by Abhirup Dhar! A book on India's Best known Paranormal Investigators who was 1st of its kind in the country... How he became a Paranormal Investigator from a non-believer, his journey till his death, the team's contribution to this field, the investigations with Haunting Australia Team, everything is well placed in this book by the author.. But,
This book has two sides. Atleast for me, in my opinion. In simple words, the book can be looked upon with two different views. First one is of Paranormal Science. A life story of Gaurav Tiwari, a Paranormal Investigator and second is of Horror genre in particular, i.e., a good horror story.
People who are interested in Paranormal Science, may find that the author has added some spices to the stories to make the book more appealing to the horror readers. As in my case! I am interested in this field of Paranormal Science, and did notice the extra spices added in some portions. If you are the same, you may notice it as well. I should not give spoilers!
But, am also a horror reader, love reading ghost stories for which, I would say, this book is a Very Good Horror Book, enough to fall in love with the Man- Gaurav Tiwari, the Book & the Author! Go for it if you are interested in Paranormal Investigation and know about Gaurav Tiwari, one of the best paranormal investigators, the founder of Indian Paranormal Society, the 1st of its kind!!

A disappointment!
I was really intrigued by the summary on the back of the book and picked it up at the airport, hoping it would give me goosebumps. There was so much potential in the plot, but alas!
The book leaves you hanging in most of the stories, there are repetitions all over the book saying the same thing about the IPS and about the protagonist as if the author had to make a minimum word count.
The author tries to hint at a back story but never really gets around to telling it much like each chapter/investigation where they declare that the investigation was successfully completed while the reader is left wondering "When?" and "How?".

Ghost Hunterby Abhirup Dhar is a book on the life and legacy of Gaurav Tiwari who was a paranormal investigator and the founder of Indian Paranormal Society. He died mysteriously at the age of 32.

In this book there are multiple real life paranormal cases of Gaurav Tiwari that he investigated. Not only you get to read some ghost stories but know many things about spirits, possession etc.

More than this book being a collection of horror story I loved the highlighting of Gaurav Tiwari as a hard working passionate person who was so upto doing the thing he wanted to. Specifically in an area where there is gray area of belief and non-belief hrme dedicated his life to the job.

What a great book this is!
Being a ghost stories lover, i was looking for some books to read and I knew about Gaurav Tiwari and IPS thanks to television. When I saw this book in the search list, it was natural for me to pick it up for reading and I must say it is really wonderful book.
Got some great insights regarding ghosts,
afterlife and the way we must respect the boundaries between us and them and try to help remove their pains (with proper training from IPS or credible person) if they're ready to cooperate.
Finally, I have now huge respect for Gaurav Tiwari and his work! \m/

I thought that this book would go more into the actual details surrounding the death of Gaurav Tiwari, yet it did not deliver. The lead up and the initial parts of the stories were good, but then in the end none of the stories were satisfying. There are hints at exploring the scientific method that Gaurav and his team used to prove the existence of the supernatural, yet again it did not deliver. The man himself, Gaurav is a mystery and there is something about him that makes him famous and a worth topic for a book. I just am not impressed by the writing and the stories told in this book.

It's a decent read if you want to get to know the process of investigating a paranormal experience. The cases themselves seemed like a rehash of every ghost story I ever heard or watched and aren't scary barring one or two. If that's what you're expecting then you'll be disappointed, I guess.IPS's approach to ghosts was a novel perspective for me although it's something I don't completely understand.
