2.5 years later and I've finally finished the last of the monogatari books I bought when I was in Japan. I remember when I started I didn't really have any goals and reading a page of manga seemed impossible. About a year in I thought about goals to set myself in the future, no deadlines no nothing, just a goal and some motivation to keep going. Back then I decided on reading the big 3 manga (one piece, bleach and Naruto) and in the far far future reading this series. I can't believe I've got this far quite honestly. But I have plenty easy gains still to get and much more improvement to go. Reaching this has filled me with renewed determination and I wonder what goals I will set from now on🤔
The first half wasn’t what I expected, and I ended up enjoying the second half more than anything else. But what is the second half, really—other than a continuation of the first? That very contrast makes them opposites, like two sides of this novel.
If you're not into the classic "Nisio Isin structure"—half the story dedicated to fun and games, followed by a final burst of dense, dialogue-driven resolution—then this probably won’t be your kind of Tale.
But if you’ve been keeping up with the series, then you already know the deal. This isn’t the first time we’ve been GET GOT by the brilliant insanity of Nisio Isin’s mind.
There are words here that resonate with me—not just as a reader, but on a deeply human level. Maybe the way they’re packaged won’t land the same for everyone, but the impact is undeniable.
