Ivy Whitaker writes paranormal romance and contemporary sapphic love stories designed to make your heart ache in the best way. She’s obsessed with crafting believable characters and throwing them into unbelievable situations—because love is messy, healing is hard, and happily-ever-afters are always worth the fight.

A multi-series, multi-genre author (who has it on good authority from her partners that she’s doing a good job), Ivy lives in Western New York with her partners, her human child, and four demanding fur children. When she’s not writing, she’s probably wrangling chaos, designing something witchy, or drinking a cup of coffee she (almost) forgot she made.

I had the privilege of reading "Night Terror" before it was published, as a part of the ARC Team.

You follow Shea as she learns more and more about Verbank and the secrets it keeps. And Nathaniel's. The classic tall, dark and handsome stranger comes into the picture, creating waves in an already rather topsy-turvy relationship.

What I love most about this series is the story developing alongside the romance. You really are learning about the world and all its supernatural wonders alongside Shea. The world is SO cool. It allows relationships to develop at what feels like a natural pace. In other words, it's a slow burn, so if instant gratification romance is your thing, this might not be the series for you. I side-eyed Nathan, developed a crush on Tyr
... and also side-eyed him. But above all else, I remained rooted to my seat.

Ivy has an amazing ability to write in such a way you're incapable of putting the book down. I devoured this entire book and I'm so excited to read the rest of the series!

I am HOOKED.

OK so, book 2 was even better than book 1! The ending, my goodness!

This book opened us up to more supernatural beings/ forces in Shea's world, as well as introducing us to a couple more VERY intriguing characters.

The whole book had me questioning loyalties and mysteries the whole way through, and even by the end I'm not entirely sure where they all lie!

I don't want to give spoilers, it's really just something you have to discover on your own! I'm left with more questions and theories and now must impatiently wait for the third installation! I can't wait!

* This book was gifted to me by the author in return for an honest review.

Right from the first line we are pulled immediately into chaos! Taken for a trip through a nightmarish scene. The writing is so beautifully written you are instantly transported into the spooky and mysterious town of Verbank. There are many new and terrifyingly exciting experiences that leaves you on the edge of your seat. We learn so much more about Shea and her family history that honestly left me speechless and wanting more! This series is one I highly recommend to anyone looking for a drama filled romance mixed with petrifying encounters and adventure as we explore the small town of Verbank!

This book was incredible, even better than book 1!
I literally read it one sitting, I couldn’t put it down.
So much happens! Book 1 left me with so many questions, book 2 answered them for me and then opened the door to so many more. I can’t wait for book 3 to find out what’s in store, so many things I need to know.. 👀

Incredible book, *thank you so much to Ivy for gifting me a copy to review*, it was an absolute pleasure. Such an intense and enjoyable read, really had me on the edge of my seat!

Night Terror is the second book in Ivy Whitaker’s Dark Paths series. I read her first book, Home Sweet Hell, and was hooked immediately. So when her second instalment was announced… well, I think it was pretty clear what I had to do.

The second book picks up where the first left us and we are once again treated to Ivy’s beautiful character development and storytelling talent. She has a way of drawing the reader in with whispers of what's to come, leaving enough of a mystery it will leave you begging for more. There is no shortage of romance as we jump back in to Shea and Nathaniel’s love story but Verbank had not been stripped of its dark undertones.

Shea may have escaped Somerset but those ghosts don’t seem content to lay at rest and it becomes clear that there are other creatures hiding in the night.

And far more magic than a bit of burning sage.

We see two new characters emerge in this book, both are far more forthcoming in what they know of the mysteries in the world. Highlighting Nathaniel’s stern, tight lipped grip on what he knows. Tyr, her savior and a potential competitor for her heart. And Declan an earnest man from a wealthy background who has spent his life studying and hunting the unknown.

Together they don’t quite make the Mystery, Inc. gang, but they manage to unravel just a little more of what Verbank has to offer. And it still seems to only scratch the surface.

Ivy has once again provided me with a book that kept me hooked, on the edge of my seat, and begging for more. With more characters to love and more scenes so frightening I found myself checking corners before I went to sleep.

If you’ve already read Home Sweet Hell and you felt the same spark that I did then Night Terror is a must. If you’re looking for a romance with a mix of horror and supernatural then I highly suggest you pick up the first book and start this ride.

Because you’ll be screaming for more.

WHAT A JOURNEY.

When you thought everything was over, and it had just begun. I thought the first book was insane, the second book had me screaming in more ways than one. Night Terror is the second book in the Dark Path Series, and man, it’s a rollercoaster ride. In this book, we found some super intersting things about some of the characters, and got to meet some incredible new ones. The author has a way of making your trust run thin, and although most of the new characters I loved, I still just have odd feelings about them. I was obsessed with Tyr, the guy who found her in the hospital after she almost died. From the moment his character was introduced, I FELL IN LOVE. Like, everything he said made me a pile of goo, and he was so perfect for Shea. But at that time of meeting him, she was dealing with secretive ass Nate. It frustrated me for her because everyone literally hit her with the….”I can’t tell you” or “it’s not my business to tell” kind of thing.

In the second book, you get more insight into Shea’s life, and we got to kind of see her mom. Even though it wasn’t in the bestest state in the beginning haha. There’s a few bomb drops in this book that had me push my kindle away, breath, and talk myself into reading again. Chloe made me love her even MORE in this book. I stopped like Nate in this book.

Declan was something I didn’t know I needed, but now I’m obsessed. His character was and will be ONE of my favorites, but I’m kind of skeptical still. He came out of nowhere at the right time and built this amazing friendship with Shea and Chloe.

The author really knows how to keep you on your toes with the endings. I literally dread when I’m finishing up the book because I know something is coming. I have to mentally prepare myself. I love this book, and I recommend it to anyone. Once again, the writer never fails with the incredible writing style, and incredible story telling skills. The character development is CRAZYYYYY! (In the best way possible)

The Bleeding Man is gone. The house went up in flames. Everything is okay. So you thought.

This is the second book in the Dark Paths series. This book takes place shortly after the first one. I cannot wait for the next one!! The cliffhanger had my mouth dropped to the floor for about a good ten minutes.

Am I okay? I don’t even know.

In this book, we meet new characters and I love them more than some of the originals. We have new twists and turns. I loved it!! We get more knowledge about Shea and her mother. We get interesting facts about the world around everyone.

Shea is my girl. She gets so much crap from her best friend and her boyfriend. She ends up realizing what she’s worth. When she finally puts her foot down, I internally yell “you go girl, you a bad bitty”. I just love her.

Nathan, you’re still letting me down I see. I don’t know what the future holds but I can’t wait for you to finally reveal your secrets. No good words for you yet.

Chloe, ehhh, still a pain. I love her when she’s not being selfish.

Tyr, I like you but I’m still unsure. The revelation made me like you more. I just hope you don’t screw over anyone.

Declan oh Declan. I asked the author if I could have you. I mentally loved you. I wanted things to go a different route but that ending got me messed up.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The start was a slow burn but once again the author gave us snippets in the first half to keep me interested. Then the book went full force and I am so upset it ended the way it did. I just really need the next one. Ugh. Thank you to Ivy for keeping me entertained for the past week with these books. I highly recommend this series if you like suspense/thriller, hometown vibes, and a little bit of spice.

So I must say Book 2 was even better than Book 1! Book 2 dived more into the depth. The Book had me questioning things like who is Loyal who is not. The way it dive deeper into for Shea to find out what she is, who she is, and everything. I absolutely loved we get to see more creatures like Vampires, Werewolves and Witches in it.
Shea's mother history definitely blew me up! Like woah!!
Overall i absolutely loved this one more than Book 2! I am HOOKED! I have questions and i cant wait to find them out!

Also not to mention the book is written very beautifully! The terrifying and chill vibes it gives!

Thank you so much Ivy Whitaker and Hawthorn & Aster for the Arc Copy!

Night terror is book 2 in the Dark path series. The story picks up right after Home Sweet Hell and I have to say, while some questions were answered, so many more are brought up and left open.

It took me a while to get into the story. I loved the haunting feelings of book 1, and it took a while for book 2 to get there. The first few chapters were really hard for me to get through, and i'm sad to say I contemplated a DNF.

But then things got interesting, and so much happened! There are twists and turns at every page, ant you never know what is going to happen, or where the story is leading.

I liked seeing new characters getting into the story, and the evolution of Shea and Chloe relationship.

Since this is a 5 part series, there are still a lot of things that need an explanation, so prepare yourself for a lot of wondering!

Night Terror is book 2 in the Dark Paths series. Honestly, I enjoyed this one more than the first.
Shea is finding out so much about her family and herself. But also, the people around her. I'm sad about the direction things are heading in with her and Nathaniel. If he's doing it to protect her, he's going about it all the wrong way. Shea has god reason to feel the way she is feeling about him. However, the new guy in her life just seems a little sketchy to me. This book, while sticking with the romance, had way more of a paranormal aspect to it, which I loved! That's what I wanted! I felt the first book was too focused on the relationship. So far, we've encountered, witches, vampires, and werewolves! Can't wait to see where this is heading to next.

I highly recommend this series by Ivy Whitaker!

The first book gives you the back story and what these characters are starting to face, the second book delves deeper into The Who what where and why it how Shea became to be involved with the paranormal happening in her town and the love triangle that starts happening between her Nathan and Tyr just species it up a little more.

Shea struggles to come to terms with what and who she is and try’s to figure out how to stop whatever is coming for her. As her and her friends delve deeper into her mothers past she begins to piece together the steps she needs to take.

Such a good read! These types of books are my guilty pleasures!

Thanks you for the earc for an honest review.

Trying to figure out who wants you, whilst trying to figure out who you really are and what you want. Everything you thought you knew about your home, knowing there is a darker secret. Ooooh it's so intriguing and enticing. Throw in men trying to fight for your heart. That's just a whole lot complicated. It was definitely less horror, thankfully but still gave me goosebumps kind of vibes.

Looking into your mother's past what can go wrong.

Do we have a new mystery gang ( taking over from scooby doo) it was an interesting dynamic and I can't wait to read the next one.

Loved this one! It's still creepy AF, but it didn't freak me out as much as the first book in this series. I like the new characters and Shea is really becoming a badass!
Picked up the pace a lot compared to Night Terror.

I love the use of sounds in speech, such as "ehn" combined with the "so, so" hand gesture! It just makes the scene come so much more alive!

I read this whole series and I could not put it down, well I had to because I had class work and homework to do, but you get the idea. I love Shea’s story and seeing her heal but also go through everything else, damn it felt slightly like a rollercoaster.

The second instalment of the Dark Paths series; Night Terror picks up where the first book left off.

Continuing on the story told from Shea’s P.O.V. - the narrative flows on nicely as there is a brief recap on events from the first book.😃

New characters are introduced, that fit in well with changing/ evolving storyline. All in all, Night Terror is an enjoyable read with surprises & twists readers don’t see coming. 💗☺️

The second book in the Dark Paths series, Night Terror brings us back into Shea’s life as it continues on after the events at Somerset in book one. While still processing the unanswered questions and unresolved feelings she had, Shea and Nathan’s relationship has an interesting…. speed-bump? That’s the best way for me to describe it without ruining it. Nathan’s possessive side starts to come to the forefront despite the fact that he the master secret keeper. At first, I thought he was being protective but, the more I thought about it as the story progressed, definitely not.

I really felt for Shea through a lot of this book, she struggled with her own mind and at some points was unsure of even those closest to her. Those moments where she seemed to be in the darker places were like those in a movie where you just get that uneasy, sad combination of feelings for a character. Or, is that just me that happens to? 🧐 I think that speaks to how well this book was written and how deeply you can get immersed into this story.
And, just when I thought I had the answers to all of the questions…. THERE WERE MORE QUESTIONS! My heart and my brain were on alert for this one!

I feel like this quote sums up how it’s going in Verbank in this book:

“Her return to Verbank was fraught with complications. Unnamed entities who seemed hellbent to tear the world apart at the seams. It made sense that people would respond strangely. Because their lives were now strange. Marred by the touch of sinister creatures who blackened everything they caressed with their venomous fingertips.”
