Between Dawn and Dusk #4

The Fae Warrior's Princess

Rate this book
I was only five months old the first time I looked into my mate’s eyes, but it took less than a second for my soul to recognize Torius as my other half. Then, without a word, he walked away from me and never came back. The sharp sting of rejection left me inconsolable for days, and in the years following, I sensed his absence like my own heart was missing.

At first, I didn’t understand Torius’ reasons for avoiding me. I didn’t know he’d been my father’s best friend since they were kids or that revealing our connection too soon could have consequences.

Just to make sure we never crossed paths again, Torius’ brilliant solution was to run off to the human realm. He thought he could hide from me until I’m old enough, until he’s ready to face our fate and my father.

I’ve always known he’d come back to me someday.

But not if I find him first.

My plan is playing out perfectly until we’re called back to Valora, where our relationship is still a secret. Where our world is changed, ridden with curses and darkness, and Torius is our only hope. It’s up to him to save our home.

Well, it’s up to us.

RATING 4.5 STARS

The Fae Warrior’s Princess is book four in the Between Dawn and Dusk series by Jamie Schlosser. This is Princess Danyetta’s (Dani’s) book, the oldest child of King Kirian and Queen Quinn from book one!

Dani has known since she was six months old that Torius was her fated mate. It’s unheard of that a fae meets their mate at such an early age. But as soon as their eyes met, they both knew. Dani has held on to that single memory her entire life. Her mate left immediately. It is against their law for the mating bond to be allowed before the age of twenty one. Dani is nearly nineteen and she’s done waiting. Torius has gone to the human realm and she is determined to find him.

Torius and King Kirian have been best friends, more like brothers, since they were children. Torius never told anyone that Dani was his mate. He knew he had no other choice but to stay away from her until she turned twenty one. In the human realm, he’s counting the days until he can go to her. But instead, she shows up first and claims what she wants, him! Now they will have to return home and face her parents but first, they are summoned home. In their absence, their world has suffered a curse. Nothing is as it was. And the only person that can save them is her mate.

“She might’ve been raised a princess, but she has the heart of a warrior.”

It’s painful for mates to be separated and Dani is determined to stay with her man. They embark on an epic journey and adventure. Dani proves herself to be brave, to actually be helpful on their trip, to be everything her husband could ever dream of in a mate. They face one dangerous situation after another, together.

“My purpose for existing is fulfilled. It’s not to fight, kill, and defend. Today and every day after, I’ll live only to make my mate happy.”

This book was full of swoons, of sexy, sweet times, and so much suspense as this group embarks on their journey. I was so proud of Dani. The only reason I dropped the rating by one half is that during one part in the last quarter when they were in one particular place, I got a bit confused with how much time was passing. I had a little trouble making sense of it. But, I loved Dani and Torius together and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This is another fantastic addition to this series.

“In any world, in any time, I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine.”

I SO loved the first two books in this series! The Fae King's Curse and The Fae King's Dream are among my favorite fantasy books. They are earnest and sweet love stories with likeable characters. The third book, The Fae King's Prize, was just okay for me. It was less sweet, more angsty, and I found the MMC less likeable.

Sadly, I really struggled with this last book. Both characters were mostly likeable, and their relationship angst resolved fairly quickly. However, magic was used and not used illogically, and I found some elements downright disturbing.

When I choose to read dark or taboo books, that's a decision I make with open eyes. I don't like these themes sprung on me unexpectedly, in genres they don't belong.

Shades of Renesmee. This one I expected, but I still didn't like how it was handled. Dani is the daughter of the MMC from book #1. Torius is his best friend. When they lock eyes, they know they're fated mates. This would be fine except she's a BABY 😬. He stays away from her, but after a few years he moves to the human realm. Now, every year in Faeville is a single day on Earth. So he's only apart from her a few years, plus a couple weeks. Boo hoo. Whereas the MMC from the first book waited thousands of years pining for his love, and improving his kingdom for her. Kinda makes Torius look weak & lazy in comparison.
She's "underage". The age of consent in their world is 21, but she sneaks off to see him when she's 18. Even though she's an adult by our standards, they were both raised in a culture where she's still considered a child. This was just unnecessary here. Wasn't it enough that they met when she was a baby, and that he's best friends with her father? Did we really need more taboo here?
She self-harms. Dani is an empath, and sometimes absorbs negative emotions. When this happens, she can only release those negative feelings by cutting herself or feeling physical pain. At one point, she asks for and receives (spoiler) WTAF. None of it is written with the kind of sensitivity and nuance that a triggering topic like this deserves.

Finally, we find out early on, that the whole realm is starving because of a curse. Except her brother can churn out portals faster than In-N-Out makes burgers. Portals to places like Earth. Where something like, say, a bag of gold - could be exchanged for goods, such as - I don't know - food. 🤯

I feel bad if I made this book sound terrible, there's a lot of good stuff, but the bad just overwhelmed me here, unfortunately.

LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

Dani and Torius. I could not wait for this story. Dani and Torius are meant to be but Dani is done waiting around. She takes matters into her own hands to claim her man.
As soon as they make it back to their realm they have a task to complete. Dani is determined to be with her man no matter what. This trip takes them through seas, sirens, dragons and danger. Will they make it through? Will they be able to help everyone?

There is so much going on in this story! It kept me wanting more and more. I can't wait for the next book. I need to know what happens with the others.

Jamie has gone and done it again. She blew my mind and rocked my world in the best way possible.

I would love to be able to see into her creative brain. To find out how she can create a world like this. How she can give us lovable, well-developed, and complex characters like this. And how she’s able to pull me in and WOW TF out of me like this.

This book has been put onto my “books I never wanted to stop reading but never wanted it to end” list. It was so hard to put down once I started!

Torius… what a sexy AF warrior. Someone who is loyal, who follows the rules, who always does the right thing. And he’s mated to his best friend’s daughter…oopsie. After reading the other books, I could. not. wait. to get my hands on this story.

Dani… She’d had enough…of being ignored, of waiting, of not being with her mate. So she took matters into her own hands. Since Torius was avoiding her, she went searching for him. I loved her sass, her determination, her fierceness. Ms. Schlosser is so good at giving us strong heroines with huge hearts who you’d just love to be besties with. Dani is exactly that.

When these two were together? The chemistry and their bond? Strong and sizzling and explosive! Wowza. Some scenes were HOT AF. I absolutely loved how they fought for each other, protected each other, lived for each other. I felt their connection, their love.

Some scenes were so well-written, so vividly penned, I swear I was RIGHT THERE with the characters. Once again I am in complete awe of this author’s talent and ability to pull me into a story, to make me SEE everything, HEAR everything, FEEL everything. This was more than a story, it was an experience. One that I thought about for days after I finished.

I knew this was going to be good. And it totally was. I knew it would give me everything I wanted and needed. It 100%, thoroughly did. Another fantastical addition to this amazing series!!

To say I’m excited for the next book would be an understatement.

P.S. I loved the dragon so much!!!!

Torius and Dani were fated mates and they both knew early on - like REALLY EARLY. Torius distanced himself from Dani for many years for her own sake (of course, don't they always?) Until she has had enough and goes after him. Their reunion is short lived because he's (they've) got to go save their world from possible extinction. In the meantime they find out some interesting secrets about Torius and face telling all their loved ones about their coupling. 4 stars

I honestly think this book just wasn't for me. The couple gets together at like 10% of the book, and the rest of it is them completing some quest. I unfortunately just thought this was boring :(

I really enjoyed the OG trilogy so I was super excited, but unfortunately this felt super flat. The romance wasn’t pretty developed, and I feel that even though that was one of the major points of the story we didn’t see a lot of yearning and the relationship was pretty quick and fast.

The plot was a bit of a let down and didn’t add much to the story nor the characters. Everything solved pretty quickly towards the end, and there were a lot of moments when I was so disconnected with the story.

I was happy to see the OG characters here and see how they were doing, and I liked Torius and Dani, but because it was such a short book none of the things that happened had much depth.

I'm so excited that this book is finally out because it means I finally get to rave about it. I've been quite in a book slump lately, but I read this in only a couple sitting, including a too short plane ride where I tried not to make it too obious to my seat-mates how hot my reading material was... because holy moley was this book hot!

Out of all the books in this series, I think this might be my favorite, because I loved both the characters and the plot. I fell for Torius immediately, even though in previous installments I had been more excited about other characters. So the way I completely melted for this big and possessive warrior surprised me. Even more, I was surprised by how much I loved Dani as a main character. Sometimes when the h is super assertive and volitive, I find it hard to relate, but she was an absolute joy to read, and I thought that they were a perfect pairing.

I also really liked the plot, and how it tied within the previous books. It kept me on my toes and wanting to know what would happen next. The only thing that didn't work for me was one of the 'side plot-twist' which I guessed even before the first clue, so the reveal wasn't much of a shock.

Overall, this was a wonderful addition to the series and my favorite. I might reread it in the future because of how entertaining their voyage was and just how much of a cute and sexy couple these two are. Also, an honorable mention to Dani's powers, which I think were a stroke of genius. I was in stitches when everyone started professing their love for Tor thanks to Dani's feelings radiating off her. And don't even get me started about the opening scene in the inn.

So yeah, nothing more to say, it was entertaining, sexy, filled with adventure and a lot of heart. So I was one happy reader!

Think fated mates, pirate-esque adventures, a sexy as sin warrior, father's best friend trope, need to save the world plot, but... with a dragon.

I read a lot of books as a reader, and there are just some books/series that you never want to end and this series is one of them. Each time one has ended o get so sad because the world that author has written is not only beautiful but the adventures that these characters go on is a wild ride that keeps me hooked.

I loved the characters in this book. The way they give into adventure, the banter between them, the pull and love they have for each other. It’s all very beautiful and the author does an amazing job showcasing that.

Out of the 4 books in this series, this one has been my favorite. I loved the adventure that we got. There were parts that had me laughing hard, parts that made me tear but, but in the end, these characters were perfect for each other and this story. You can tell the author really puts a lot into time and work into this story. I really hope that this isn’t the end and we get a lot more books on this series. 5 stars #2OCCJD

Bizarre fixation on pain

Likes
HEA (no cliffhanger)
Kindness to animals

Dislikes
-Weird scenario where pain during intimacy is demanded.
-The heroine orders the hero through the back door so she will hurt, on purpose. He isn’t super wild about it and it brings up consent issues that they never communicate about.

Pain and violence during romance isn’t very appealing.

Being violent during that particular form of intimacy is really unsafe and there is zero warning.

Refusing to communicate and ignoring consent isn’t fun.

Why can’t the heroine and hero be nice to each other? I can’t recommend the book because of the fixation on romantic violence and lack of communication that brings up consent issues.

Princess Dani of the Night Realm knows why her father’s best warrior, Torius, left to go on an assignment in the human world. As fated mates, he feared what his king and best friend would think if he told him he was fated to be with his only daughter, the future queen. While the Fae aren’t considered old enough to wed until they’re 21, Dani decides 19 years is long enough, and hunts Torius down in the human world, looking to cement their bond once and for all.

Torius is overjoyed to see his mate and complete their bond…until he learns she’s not yet 21, making their joining a punishable offense. He reluctantly agrees to stay in the human world longer with her until everyone in the Night Realm forgets the pesky law that Dani calls antiquated. But a day in the human world is a year in the Fae one, and it doesn’t take long until someone comes to find them. But it isn’t to punish them, it’s to bring a warning.

The plague that once killed most of the young female Fae is back with a vengeance. Highly contagious and deadly, it also brought darkness with it that killed the crops. The curse is hard to break, nearly impossible, but the Night Realm king knows Torius can help end it. Now it’s more important than ever to keep the meeting bond a secret.

Torius has the ever popular “I’ll kill anyone who touches her” vibe I enjoy in my romances. I like when the male lead is completely and utterly devoted to his partner…and has many killed a few people, but you know how that is! I was also initially worried how the fated mate at birth scenario was going to shake out. If it was anything as terrible and awkward as the whole Jacob and Reconciliation mate thing in Twilight, I was going to cry. But lucky for me, Schlosser gave the pair literal worlds between them until Dani was old enough.

This book hits the ground running in a way the others before it haven’t. Not to say the others in the series weren’t fantastic. But we dive right into the heat, and the drama swiftly follows, giving us a lot to keep us hooked until the very end. Seriously, I read it in one sitting.

Overall, I call this another win for the fantasy romance lovers. Snag your copy of The Fae Warrior’s Princess asap so you don’t miss out on the fun.

So….we get to go on a mate hunt. Kirian and Quinn’s baby girl, Dani, is all grown up….and she goes on a mate hunt to find her fated mate Torius, because she is done waiting for him to return. When she was months old she saw her mate Torius, knew he was her fated mate…and still remembers that first meeting. He knew too, and went on a few missions for the King, the last of which took him to the human realm, so the mating fever would not drive him crazy. Dani sets off with a little help, to go to the human realm and hunt down her mate. She finds him, but everything doesn’t quite go as planned, because they never do. Once they are mated, they have 17 days of newly mated bliss in the human realm when they are found and have to return home so Torius can start a new journey to save the kingdom. And what a journey it is, all kinds of suspense, action and wtf’s. Please remember that 17 days in the human realm is 17 years in their world, basically a lot has happened since they’ve been gone. One thing we learn quickly is that Dani is a ray of sunshine, but do not, and I repeat do not mess with her, she is a very powerful empath, and can do things that most cannot, she’s the sweet and powerful princess that you want on your side. I loved reading such a sweet girl wielding that kind of power, very refreshing. So basically her and Torius together are quite the power couple, literally.

This was a fantastic storyline, and it took so many twists and turns you won’t be able to put it down. I am desperate, yes I said desperate, to get more of this series. I flove it so much, it is one of my favorite series, it’s so beautifully adventurous, and I always want more. Safe read, with fated mates that cannot keep their hands off each other, absolutely insatiable, a possessive naughty warrior, and his sweet empath mate that wears her heart for everyone to feel…literally. We get to see all of our favorites from the previous books, their children all grown up, of course our favorite witch, and some new favorites as well. An epilogue, that will definitely have you just as desperate as me, and an hea.

This is book four in an interconnected series. Although it is a standalone with a HEA, it is recommended that the books be read in order. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
Dani is a princess, daughter of the Fae King of the Night realm, Kirian, and Queen Quinn. She is an empath with strong powers that were evident far earlier than normal. She is fierce, brave, intelligent, kind, and determined to be with her fated soul mate. Torius is the valiant warrior that readers met in the other books of the series. He is Kirian’s best friend. He is strong, brave, loyal, and one of the best warriors in Valora. When he recognizes Dani as his soul mate when she is still an infant, he also recognizes that it could be harmful to her if he is around her too much before she comes of age. To prevent harm, he removes himself from her by taking distant missions and counts the years till they can be together.
I adore Torius and I was so looking forward to his HEA. I was excited to learn more about him in this book. He and Dani are perfect for each other. Aside from the mate bond, they also form a deep friendship with respect for each other. This may be the steamiest book of the series so far. It is melt- your-Kindle hot. There is action, adventure, danger, passion, humor, and romance. The author does a fantastic job creating the different worlds and the intricacies of time within them. I could not put this down and I read it in one sitting. Though Torius and Dani have a HEA at the end of this book, there is drama with side characters that remains unresolved. I am excited because this sets up the next books in the series. To say I am anxiously waiting for more would be an understatement. I have absolutely in reading this series and I cannot recommend it enough.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

This one started off with a sexual bang, quite literally!...it was definitely the raciest one of the bunch so far i think. I really like Torius and Dani, my only wish is that there could have been more time showing them apart, before they got together....it could have added some good angst which was virtually non existent in this book, except for the first chapter when Dani thinks he doesn't want to be with her but they pretty much give in to the bond almost immediately which makes sense i guess since they're both fae... there was no fighting what they know fate has gifted them. Regardless, i really enjoyed it and i'm looking forward to books for everyone else we've met!

I’m kinda disappointed by this books, I absolutely smash some of the book on the series but this one seems kinda lacking. The story went on too fast and so many things happen with little to no importance. The situation regarding their relationship was never actually mentioned or discussed with her parents. But nonetheless the books was good, like the spice but is kinda lacking regarding some situation.

This was one amazing ride. I loved Dani and Torius and loved the different take on them finding out they were mates. She was a baby and it just gave her this purpose from the very beginning. I loved how she takes matters into her own hands and is exactly what Torius needed. The adventure, danger, and action was just an added bonus to their mating and connection.

This story was an action packed adventure, with constant twists and turns, that kept me completely consumed the entire time I was reading it. The main couples journey was everything I expect from this author, and she definitely didn’t disappoint. And those side characters! I truly hope for more books in this series!

Advertencia de contenido⚠️:
-Age gap (+100 años & 18 añitos tiene la criatura)
-El mejor amigo de mi padre
-No drama OM (otro hombre)

Man oh man and I happy to delve back in to Valora!! I have missed this world. Torius and Dani are simply amazing together. Ms Schlosser’s Fae series is like none other that I’ve read. Her imagination has created an amazing fantasyland that I wish I could visit frequently. Her heroes are fiercely protective and her heroines are not wilting flowers. I sincerely hope there is more to come in this series!

This series was my first time reading fantasy and the only reason I read it was because I am obsessed with her good guys series. Between dawn and dusk is one of my fav series I’ve ever read so naturally I was sooooo excited for this book when I first heard about it coming out. I didn’t think there was going to be more to this series and I love the forbidden aspect of the story. However, I feel like I was completely let down. I have loved every single one of Jamie’s books and the connection between the two MCs and I did not feel that way about this one at all. I think the main thing for me was there was no build up. You know one of best parts about a forbidden romance is the build up to when they finally get together, this book had none. The MCs literally had sex the first time they saw each other again, only 20% into the book. Now don’t get me wrong I love a good sex scene early on in books but I feel like that didn’t fit here. It was weird how there was sex, sex and more sex added to this book. I didn’t feel the chemistry between them at all, it wasn’t romantic it was based on lust which surprised me because this is not the case is any of her other books. I read on the author’s Facebook page that she wasn’t sure about continuing this series because this book tanked hard. It was blamed on some Amazon glitches but I truly believe if you’re a huge fan of this author you can see how this book doesn’t seem like it was her at all. I absolutely would love for her to continue this series. I really want to see what happens to the other supporting characters and also it was kind of left hanging so please please continue the series and make the books the like first three.

A great addition to the Between Dawn&Dusk series!

I was so excited by this concept and love how it played out.

There were a couple times i thought maybe it was too easy such as torius learning she was 18 and kirian accepting them. I would have preferred those to have a little more conflict, but thats minor and just personal preference.

I will say i recommend reading all 3 books before this one. I had only read book 1 and half of book 2 before starting this and there were quite a few things i was lost and had questions about, but really it wasn't too bad so if you didnt want to read the first three you wouldnt be too terribly lost.

Also love Andolyn. I love animal friends and she stole my heart as soon as she was introduced!

Definitely looking forward to more of this series.

Safety: ow drama=not really it was a misunderstanding. h thought H had a gf but he didnt. H loved h only since he met her and wasnt w/anyone else. No om drama.

It was wonderful to dive back into the world of Valora again!

If far romances are your jam, then this series is absolutely for you! There’s adventure, there’s action, there’s romance, there are strong-willed women and the lucky men who get to love them.

This addition to Ms. Schlosser’s Fae King’s series is NOT a slow burn and since fated mates are a thing in this world, it's insta-love. This romance deals more with the adventure aspects of the story, and how this couple learns and grows together.

We get to reunite with the other couples of the series and a return of a villain. And... One of my favorite mythological creatures makes an appearance! (& I hope will become more of a player throughout the series!)

As per usual, Ms. Schlosser’s words pulled me right into the story. The world is expanded even further on this go-round, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the ride!

Okay before I even get into how much I HATED the relationship: lemme just say this book was mind numbingly boring. Seriously. Like it felt like nothing happened aside from the main couple fucking. I genuinely could not tell you anything interesting that happened.

Now onto my fucking RANT.

This book was creepy from chapter one, but fuck me if I don't respect Torius for noping the fuck out of that situation. God fate fucked him good. Like this doesn't make it any less creepy (quote: "It’s supposed to be impossible for infants to recognize their mates. Even children as old as twelve often can’t acknowledge the bond. They’re too young. Too immature.") Like congrats you just defied your own lore in order to write creepy semi-pedo book? Every line in the intro just kept making it creepier (quote: "I shake my head, unable to tell her we’ll be together someday. That I’ll wait for her, that my soul will yearn for hers every second until it’s time. That I’m not rejecting her. I’m doing what’s best for us both. Her expression is so filled with pain and betrayal, I think I might be sick. Yes, she’s wise beyond her years, but she’s too young to understand why we need distance, and I hate myself for hurting her in this moment.") I mean maybe you should reject her? She's five months old? And your best friend's kid? AND IT'S CREEPY AS FUCK? Anytime someone says a child is mature or wiser than their age it's an IMMEDIATE goddamn red flag. SHE IS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD SHE CANNOT BE MATURE YOU CREEP. C R E E P Y SHE WAS A BABY (quote: "I’m already spoken for. My heart, my soul, everything I am belongs to someone else. My princess. Danyetta owns me, and she has since the second our eyes connected.") Also, hard core agree to disagree on this shit my dude. It's gross as fuck (“No. Fate doesn’t care about what anyone thinks, and you know it isn’t like that—there’s nothing perverse about our connection.") Someone read Twilight and went "oh yeah that shit slaps but what if no love triangle" and it's so much worse somehow.

And the fact that they've been making these points this ENTIRE series about the age of majority being 21 (even having this quote in this book: "He might feel weird about my age. It’s so ridiculous that fae females aren’t considered to be fully mature until they’re twenty-one, but there’s a strict law against copulating with a girl who’s still considered a minor. It’s one of the worst crimes someone can commit.") And then tossing that out the window for this fucked up little pairing is so goddamn infuriating I don't even have words. Also Dani's obsession with Torius is just so fucking unhealthy it's unreal (quotes: "Within a second, my entire identity has crumbled. Torius is weaved into everything I am, every memory I have. My life is built on him and our future. Even as a little girl, my motivation to follow the rules and do well in school revolved around his imaginary approval." "Once we complete the bond, we’ll share everything. Our emotions, ambitions, and interests. They’ll be one in the same.") Like she's not even her own goddamn person. It's so fucking horrifically dependent and unhealthy. This ain't just how mate bonds work. And even Torius shares the mentality (quote: "I barely know her, but she’s already the light of my life."). This is toxic codependency. Like the first three couples were their own people outside of their mate bond, so this ain't normal.

Also her suddenly having "an adults body" after just being on earth overnight was so fucking weird and gross. Like the author is trying to find SO MANY work arounds for the fact that, by her own lore, Dani is a minor. And it's creepy as fuck. I just feel bad for Torius for being deceived, but his reaction when he finds out was just ridiculous. He *defiled* her? Seriously? Also his inability to see another view on the situation, as gross as the work around to the being a minor thing was, was so gross (quote: “You’re making points I’ve never considered, and it’s making me uncomfortable,” Torius deadpans.") Like who cares if you're comfortable. You shouldn't be comfortable facing your own prejudices.

I knew from the moment Zaylee was introduced that they were gonna push for her and Pippin to either be into each other or mates and I still find the thought icky. At the very least Pippin doesn't seem openly interested but can't we stop pushing whole ass adults with people they've watched grow up. It's so gross.

I have come to love Kirian even more now, knowing he downright refuses to let Mated Warriors go into battle, and wouldn't eat to make sure his people were. like why is he so good, seriously.

All in all this book was just a massive disappointment to a world I genuinely liked, even if, albeit, I found most of the couples lacking. This book just ruined the entire series and this author as a whole for me.

I consider myself to be an occasional paranormal romance reader as they’re something I only read when the mood for a palate cleanser strikes, and fantasy/Fae books are still new to me. The Between Dawn and Dusk books have been my first Fae romance reads and they're ones I’ve really enjoyed to the point of flying through this series in the last few days.

In summary this series features couples with obvious and explosive chemistry. They have a willingness to fight for, protect, and live for one another and the kingdoms they rule over. Whilst all the romances are that of fated mates the relationship development doesn’t feel rushed and each relationship in the series feels unique. There is plenty of story outside of the romance plot which involved adventure, danger, and action that tested the main characters in different ways. Largely featured as a whole series arc, these elements continually added to the series as it developed and resulted in strong world building that in addition to the romance captured your attention.

Tropes featured in this series include:

Triggers in this series include: Whilst present I do not feel that any of these triggers were presented in an overly graphic way or in a graphic way at all (some were mere mentions) and the ones which were more prominent were handled well.

I have written more about this specific book below.

Danyetta (Dani) and Torius’ story starts the story of the next generation of Valora royalty whilst still developing and furthering some storyline from the previous three books. Dani was a force to be reckoned with, headstrong and sure of what she wanted, she was the kind of person who you cannot say no to and if you do then she will do what she wants anyway. She was a standout character due to her determination, fierceness, and willingness to make sacrifices and had a matching capacity to care. Torius in this series so far had been headstrong, loyal, and exhibited a strong moral compass. Through his relationship with Dani and his own perspective we learnt more about him and his history which added new elements to this series. He was a likeable hero who perfectly matched Dani and their joint adventurous natures made for an exciting book.

Rather than spending the majority of the book within the established kingdoms, Dani and Torius spent much of the book travelling between worlds, realms, and locations as they battled with the events of the wider plot. It was both interesting and enjoyable in a way that made this book hard to put down as we got to experience another unique feeling fated mate's romance, learnt more about them as individuals, and explored more of the world that Schlosser has created. It involved plenty of adventure, danger, and action which added to the world building elements present in this series in both familiar and new ways. It also included some potential triggers . The secondary characters also continued to be interesting in their own ways, we learnt more about characters who so far we’ve known little about and had enjoyable appearances from the three couples whose books were prior to this one (The Fae King's Curse, The Fae King's Dream, The Fae King's Prize).

This series continued to be one with likeable characters and a romance story set within a well-established world and wider plot. I have enjoyed the four books in this series so far and look forward to finding out what happens in book 5.

Valora has moved on to the next generation of royals, starting with Kirian and Quinn’s daughter, Dani. And the distant past in invoked as well, via the introduction of several dangerous elements nearly forgotten, thought to be long gone, or even thought to be purely myth. As usual, my first and last thoughts about a book set in Jamie Schlosser’s Between Dawn and Dusk series is: I FLOVE this series!
Dani and Torius’s story is every bit as fascinating and enchanting as the previous installments of the Between Dawn and Dusk series. Unlike the other pairings, there’s no question whatsoever who the fated mate of Dani is. It was bond at first sight, when she was 5 months old, unheard of in all of Valora. And a disaster for Torius, who’s best friends with Kirian, was raised alongside the King and thinks of him as a brother. Unable to explain to his friend that he’s bonded to the man’s infant daughter, Torius flees, first to the Day realm, and then to the human world. Only, Dani isn’t going to wait forever. At nearly 19, she follows him to the human world to claim him.
A decision that turns disastrous. Not only because her parents are still unaware that Dani and Torius are fated, or even because of how even a day in the human world is a very long passage of time in Valora, but because Valora has been afflicted again. And Damon’s seer claims that only Torius can save their world.
But Dani’s been separated from her mate for 18 years, and she’s not about to let him leave her again.
Dani is spunky, even fierce in pursuit of her mate and in service to her people. And Torius is devoted to his realm and his King, steadfast. But he finds he cannot deny his mate anything, not that she gives him much choice in the matter. This new set of problems for Valora, and the new enemies, add a new, rich layer to this fantastical world Jamie Schlosser has created. Plenty of steam and romance, and definitely adventure, which combine beautifully for a fabulous read. just the kind of fantasy read that’s perfect to binge in one sitting. Readers both familiar with Jamie and new to her work will find it easy to become immersed and absorbed in both this story and the world. This series isn’t to be missed, both for fantasy/paranormal romance lovers who enjoy reading about Fae, and for fans of Jamie’s contemporary writing.
I fully recommend to both. And this series is perfect for fans of Karen Lynch, Jennifer Armentrout (especially her Wicked or Dark Elements series), Nikki Jefford (especially her Royal Conquest series), and Melissa/M.J. Haag (her Mantirum readers under Melissa and Resurrection Chronicles readers under M.J. will more than likely love these Fae)!

Really wanted to like this one because I LOVED the first three, and I really hate to give this one such a bad review - but there was just too much unnecessary taboo in it. Why is Dani underage? Felt gross reading it when she seemingly tricks Torius into consummating the bond by not mentioning her underage status. (She is 18 and a half in the book but it’s gone over multiple times that she’s not of legal age, that it’s wrong, and she even debates changing the laws when she gets home! What!!) Having her “age up” as soon as she hit the human world was gross. Dani comes off as “I’m mature for my age”. Blech.

The self harm behaviors were also handled poorly, as Dani needs to feel pain to “release emotions she takes from others onto herself”, which is an INCREDIBLY dangerous thought to place in someone’s head that I cannot believe was included.

MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS: the entire book feels invalidated in the last 15 or so pages (estimating because I read it on my phone). It’s revealed that the journey taken was for nothing, and it completely invalidates the endings of previous books. Bad guys pardoned, it feels crappy, even with the kingly “we need to stop the cycle of hatred” explanation from Kirian.

I want to try to include some positives with my review, so here goes nothing. Loved Torius’ portrayal - he’s very noble, and his intentions were always pure/protective. Genuinely enjoyed the twist about his backstory, that had me going “wow!” because it was the perfect addition. Love the dragon and her backstory, and Dany’s connection to it (even if it feels a little GoT-y for a Dany to have a dragon at her beck and call). Loved the interactions with all the previous characters / mated pairs. I could honestly read about all of them watching paint dry and be happy, I’m invested in every detail of their happily ever afters (even if sometimes they aren’t always happy, there are struggles, etc).

Overall though, I honestly wish that I had left the series at book 3, as this one tainted my viewpoints of the others :( I look forward to further books from this author as I really did adore the first three, but I’d recommend skipping this one.

Dani and Torius’ story is pulse pounding, sexy, swoony perfection.

This is one of those books that grabs you by the throat, pummels you with all the feels, and does not let you go until the last syllable. This is the fourth book in the Between Dawn and Dusk series, a fantasy novel. It has been almost two decades since the blind curse was lifted from the princes of the three fae realms. They are happily mated and the world is happy place. Dani is the princess of the Night Realm and the heir apparent. Some fae have fated mates and Dani recognized Torius, her father’s best friend when she was 5 months old. This is unheard of. To save Dani from mate sickness, Torius keeps away from her until she reaches the age of majority. But Dani is impatient and seeks him out early. While they’re in the human realm where time is different a dark fae curse descends on the fae realm and Torius must return to help. The book includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. The book also includes what you’d expect from a romance - sweet moments, steamy scenes, swoons, and all the heart squeezing love. Expect to feel all the feels - you’ll laugh, swoon, cringe, bite your nails, and cry. I love that Torius and Dani’s characters, despite their unique strong powers are still sweet, a bit naive, and modest which makes them very likeable heroes. All the characters are like that. We would definitely be friends. I will definitely keep reading this series.

I'm really liking this series and while I didn't like this book as much as the first three, it's still a solid read that sets up an expansion to this colorful and imaginative world.

This book follows Torius and Dani's story. They knew they were soulmates since Dani was 5 months old. (Given Torius was about 2000 years old, that brings a new level to the age gap romance, ha). No seriously, it wasn't that big of a deal because these fae live thousands of years. The bigger issue is that Torius is best friends with Dani's father, who is the king of the Night Realm. In the past few books, we've been aware that Torius is running away from something and now we know that it was from the mating bond, until Dani comes of age.

Dani's a strong character, an empath, which is likely how she knew so early on that Torius is her soul mate. Torius is the strong and generally quiet warrior so there is a good amount of opposite's attracts but I love how Torius realizes he needs to let Dani live the way she wants to live and that she's strong and smart enough to succeed. A lot of challenges are in their way to happily ever after and many new developments occur to introduce quite a few new characters into this world (good and bad).

The reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the story felt incomplete what with all these new characters. It felt rushed and perhaps, future books will answer a lot of the unanswered questions but I found myself a bit confused about some of the aspects of this book. That said, the romance was fantastic, the world is fascinating and I look forward to learning more about what will happen next.
