Missed Me (Mabel Davison #2) by Trevor Wiltzen
Mabel, mom, owner of a small diner and motel, waitress, maid, teller of ribald jokes, and amateur private investigator. What kind of trouble can she get into this time? After her previous dangerous and deadly dealings with Karl Larson, leader of lowlife skinheads, and his gang, she doesn't want to put her kids in danger again. But she can't ignore the heartbreak of a needy mother, who can't get the law to listen to her when she says that skinheads kidnapped her daughter. With some digging, Mabel is sure that Larson and his group may have kidnapped at least eight missing girls.
So off she goes, not very undercover, at all, to one of Larson's recruitment raves. Things get dangerous, again, and she's on Larson's hit list, again. Thank goodness for Mabel's loyal customers who have her back. But so does Sheriff Dan Gibson, who can't say no to her cookies, milk, pie and sweet face. Dan knows better than to mess with Larson, who has too many law enforcement officers in his pocket, but he's not going to let Mabel take Larson on alone.
But what about the kids, Mabel?! I admit, she really did think long and hard about her kids and niece before she realized she couldn't let Larson's bad deeds go. She couldn't let the missing girls be forgotten. It's as if she is running straight into a brick wall of evil and that evil won't go away unless someone does something and she's going to do it. Once again, Mabel has her customers on her side even as she runs the threat of becoming a pariah in her own town. Larson is bad, the scum of the earth, but most of the folks in town depend on his employment and business. Watch David (Mabel) take on Goliath (Larson) and see who falls this time.

Blue River: Home of “the largest drug operation in Washington State”, as well as Mabel’s famous cherry pie. When Mabel isn’t baking delicious treats or working at the diner/motel that she owns (or telling dirty jokes to her patrons), she’s doing her best to be there for her children and niece. Time is not always on her side.
The story picks up right away as Mabel is asked to assist a mother whose daughter went missing. Nobody takes the girl’s disappearance seriously since she recently fell in with a bad, drug addicted crowd. Mabel, however, can’t turn down someone in need. Despite her reservations, she decides to do all that she can to find the girl and make sure she’s safe.
The investigation quickly brings danger to Mabel’s door once again as she suspects the missing girl may be in the possession of Karl Larson and his skinhead groupies. Larson rules Blue River with his drug trade, and nobody messes with him or his people.
The local sheriff is scared of Larson, and would prefer not to be involved, but he might not have a choice after Mabel finds her niece in harm’s way...because Mabel won’t back down, and she’ll do anything to protect the ones she loves.

This is the second installment in the Mabel Davison series, and I loved seeing her back in action. I’ve said this before, but Mabel has a heart of gold. She cares deeper than most, and will fight for justice every time. This book is a bit darker than its predecessor, as it really delves into some of the terrible and vile things Larson and his men do.
Mabel is the star of this show. Her presence is undeniable, so I felt the difference when she wasn’t on the page. Parts of the story focus on her niece, Kerry, whose naivety ultimately puts her in grave danger. Thankfully, I can see Kerry turning into a strong young woman...especially under Mabel’s wing.
The writing is gripping, the storyline is fresh, the 80’s timeline is rich in atmosphere, and I can’t get enough of Mabel! This is a welcome return to her life, and I truly enjoyed getting to know her even better. Of course, the ending hints at what’s to come...and now I can’t wait to get my hands on book #3!
I recommend this series if you’re looking for a strong and loveable lead, depth, and compelling storylines that never feel too heavy, despite tackling some tough topics.

First and foremost, a large thank you to Trevor WIltzen for providing me with a copy of this novel, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
After I enjoyed his debut novel so much, it was a pleasure to hear from Trevor Wiltzen, asking that I read and review the second in the Mabel Davison series. Wiltzen brings his unique private investigator back for another case, using the plot of the previous novel to build on another chilling crime. Mabel Davison has her hands full with work, though she cannot deny loving the sleuthing she’s been able to do. It seems to come together nicely, as Wiltzen crafts another sensational story around her work and the small community of Blue River, Washington. Mabel is pushed to the brink in this piece, taking the reader on a harrowing journey to keep her family away from a cruel individual. There will be repercussions, perhaps permanent ones!
Mabel Davison has made a home in Blue River, Washington, where she raises her two sons and niece. It’s 1987 and the community is tight-knit, relying on Mabel’s diner to spread local gossip. However, after inadvertently getting into the private investigator business a while back, Mabel is back at it, helping a down and out single mom with her drug-addicted teenage daughter. Some say the girl ran off to live amongst her drug dealer and his white supremacist soldiers, but Mabel’s being asked to look into what could be an abduction.
Juggling work and this sleuthing on the side, Mabel seeks to penetrate deeper into the criminal underbelly of the region, where raves are thrown and young girls are lured into a life of illicit activity. What Mabel discovers shocks her, though she is not able to keep it on the down-low and is warned to stay away. As the investigation gets more intense, Mabel’s niece, Kerry, tries to take matters into her own hands. This could prove dire, as Mabel’s greatest weakness is revealed, her family!
While I cannot precisely put my finger on it, there’s something about Trevor Wiltzen’s writing that has me wanting to keep reading. It could be the ease with which he writes a gripping crime thriller in ‘pre-tech’ days, forcing the story to rely on grit, rather than apps and text messages. It might also be that he has a wonderful way of developing characters that complement the plot so well, or even the bucolic depiction of rural Washington that makes the story all the more relatable to the reader who prefers life away from traffic chaos. Whatever it might be, Wiltzen pours it all into his work and develops something well worth the reader’s time.
I often find myself trying to picture characters in my mind as I read, seeing how the author portrays them in the narrative. Wiltzen does a fabulous job with Mabel, leaving me to see the sweat on her brow and the glow of her smile. There is also an easy means of visualizing the less than noble men who make up the criminal element throughout the story. Wiltzen presents a handful of supporting characters who add depth and intrigue to the piece, some of whom are back from the debut novel, while others are new faces with personalities to match. Wiltzen makes them easily likeable or despised depending on the reader’s inclination.
While I do enjoy novels that take me deep into a case, there are times when something a little easier to digest is also wonderful. Wiltzen’s writing is easy to follow and his storytelling makes it a quick read. The flow is such that there’s no issue with devouring the novel in a sitting or two, depending on how much time the reader has to dedicate. The narrative flows well, with a plot that keeps things moving until the climactic ending, which the reader will not want to gloss over. Wiltzen tends not to focus on too much frivolous storytelling, keeping the thriller on a single plot track. I cannot wait to see what’s next for Mabel and how the fallout of this novel will tie into the next. I’ll need to use my patience, something I find difficult when I discover an author that I thoroughly enjoy.
Kudos, Mr. Wiltzen, for showcasing your abilities yet again. Nice to know that there are some who write with passion and yet remain humble.

My Indie author support continues with the highly anticipated sequel to Heart Of A Runaway Girl by Trevor Wiltzen, Missed Me.
Heart Of A Runaway Girl was my first ever indie author read, and I'm so thankful I stumbled upon it on Netgalley. In Missed Me, one of my favorite main characters, Mabel, is back. She is no nonsense, has strong values and is highly principled. I really feel like I know her. In the book, the local sheriff calls her "one in a million" and I couldn't have said it better. She really is.
It's the 1980s, my favorite decade, so of course I Iove all of the pop culture references. Mabel is a single mom to 2 boys and is also the guardian of her niece. She is a hard worker and owns both a diner and a motel (I'm tired just thinking about it, I can barely handle my 8 to 5 banking job) and boy can she bake. I swear I dreamt of her pies every night.
Mabel sounds like your average hardworking middle class mama, but she is far from average. She gets pulled into finding missing girls who seem to have ties to the local drug kingpin. She's is fearless, and sometimes recklessly so, but she won't rest until she finds answers for those poor parents with missing daughters
I was so happy to be back with Mabel again. I enjoyed watching her relationship blossom with her niece even more in this book. This book had a pretty intense action sequence that had my blood pressure and heart rate elevated.
I can't wait to see what Mabel is up to next!

Mabel Davison is living as a single mother estranged from her husband. She wears many hats...innkeeper, diner owner, waitress mother, aunt... and amateur private investigator. A teen has gone missing, and Mabel is enlisted at the request of the lawyer who is representing the girl's mother, in a criminal case, to help find her. She takes on the case and finds that the disappearance of Angela is just the tip of the iceberg and cannot turn a blind eye to what is going on in her hometown. Her investigation brings her face to face with Larson and his group of skinhead henchmen. Is Mabel in over her head? Has she placed her friends and family at risk?
This read came hard on the heels of Highway of Tears, and as I read it, all I could think about was all those missing girls and women. I've also been listening to a podcast about a millionaire and the girls he used and then sex trafficked among his rich "friends". In a similar fashion, the girls who were targeted in this book, were ones who would NOT be missed. Runaways, estranged from family, no close friends...no one who would be looking for them. I read from the about 40% mark to the end of the book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down.
This is second in a series...I have not read the first book, but did not feel that I missed out on enough to regret not reading it first. There were mentions of events from the first with some explanation of what occurred that could be considered spoilers, if you choose to read Missed Me before Heart of a Runaway Girl (also on my TBR). I will be going back and reading that one, as well as any future books in the series.

This book follows more of Mabel Davison who is a waitress, part-time investigator and a Mom. She is quickly attached to a case that a single mother is desperately searching for her missing daughter. While searching Mabel comes yet again across Karl Larson the Blue Rivers notorious racist drug lord. When Mabel's niece goes missing it's up to Mabel to find her and make things right. Will Dan help Mabel? the stakes for Mabel rise terrifyingly higher.
My review:
Trevor Wiltzen does it again! I love his writing and his stories just flow so well They are just so easy to read. I totally enjoyed this book. I absolutely love Mabel, She is soo badass!. The book kept me on the edge of my seat with all the stuff going on. I was so scared for Mabel but she did amazing. I still can't believe that ending it was just wow so good. I recommend this book to everyone you won't regret it. I really hope Mabel picks up more cases. ;)

Trevor Wiltzen does it again! I love his writing and his stories just flow so well They are just so easy to read. I totally enjoyed this book. I absolutely love Mabel, She is soo badass!. A worthy sequel to an amazing debut novel, Missed Me brings back private investigator-slash-waitress and diner owner, Mabel Davison in yet another crime-fighting adventure.
After the success of her first investigation, Mabel gets pulled into the case of Candy Johnson, a single mother whose 16-year old daughter, Angela has fallen prey to drugs and is now missing. When she finds out that more girls have gone missing from surrounding areas, Mabel's sleuthing leads her back to Karl Larson whose drug trade plagues and controls Blue River. And when her own family comes under Larson's crosshairs, Mabel holds no bars in ridding her beloved community from his clutches.
Unlike your regular P.Is, Mabel stands out as she's all heart - shedding tears and doling out hugs when emotions run high, and fighting for all she's worth when her loved ones are threatened. It was heartening to note Kerry's character growth from the previous book and it would be interesting to see her follow her aunt's footsteps. Since most of the characters have been carried over from Book 1, I would recommend reading it first to get a better hang of the plot.
Overall, an exciting read. Thanks to the author for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike your regular P.Is, Mabel stands out as she's all heart - shedding tears and doling out hugs when emotions run high, and fighting for all she's worth when her loved ones are threatened. It was heartening to note Kerry's character growth from the previous book and it would be interesting to see her follow her aunt's footsteps. Since most of the characters have been carried over from Book 1, I would recommend reading it first to get a better hang of the plot.
Overall, an exciting read. Thanks to the author for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Mabel Davison Mystery series. While it can be read as a standalone, I also highly recommend the first book, Heart of a Runaway Girl.
In Missed Me, diner owner/waitress and amateur private investigator Mabel is back, tough and tender as ever, this time enlisted by attorney Lavi in helping one of his clients find her missing teenage daughter. Mabel's deep compassion shows in her interactions with Candy, the struggling single mother, as well as the other families she meets as she tries to figure out the connections between a number of recent missing persons cases.
The mid-1980s setting is authentic and easily visualized, down to the Duran Duran posters on Mabel's niece's bedroom wall (and the landline Kerry hogs while chatting to her friend Lisa). I was a teenager in the mid to late 1980s and this was a very nostalgic setting for me!
The pace of this sequel was very fast and brought Mabel even closer to danger than her first accidental foray into private investigation. I liked how the characters of Sheriff Dan and Mabel's teenage niece Kerry were brought more into the spotlight. I honestly believe this book should be turned into a movie! It's practically everything. I need you all to read it, you won't regret it. I can't believe that in a long while, I could shed a tear reading a book.
Missed me is the sequel to Heart Of A Runaway Girl. I would advise you to read that before reading this one. You will understand more easily and can be able to flow with the story.
Missed me drew me by the heartstrings. I'm immensely proud of Mabel, she is one hell of a tough cookie. Her complete dedication to finding those missing girls should be drilled to every law enforcement agent. Most times, these people don't take some certain issues seriously. Which is bad, but, not unheard of.
Mabel ticked the powerhouse of the people who mattered. She wanted things to work for the good of her community. Though, she was halted at some point from taking action, but, she still pushed through with restraint and boldness.
I can't imagine how that must feel like or the fear that ate through her when Kelly, her niece turned missing. Yet, she wouldn't cower. She went all out instead not afraid-no, most likely spurred on by that fear. It's a pity that the community did not help her in the fight. Which is not a surprise for most people remain ungrateful, no matter the help and wouldn't do anything to make things better.

Not your typical private investigator or even detective but a diner waitress, motel owner and mother of adolescents with a heart of gold and wealth of compassion and determination.
A never give up attitude goes a long way for this protagonist that saves the day and solves the case.
She makes mistakes as she is human but her resolve is unquestionable which makes this novel an excellent read.

Mabel has a new case that involves missing girls. Young girls, seduced by drugs, missing after being courted by caucasian men with ‘power tattoos’. Her heart tells her she is not occupied enough with her own life, so she agrees to help search for the girls, giving their parents hope at reconnecting with them. (Yay Mabel!)
OBVIOUSLY things will not be simple… Mabel has been warned before to stay away from Larson - the most likely suspect -, his farms and his druggie activities (with a few bullets to her window). Thankfully ex-enemies offer perspective and there will be some support for her efforts… when things begin to get dangerous though, what can Mabel do?
Serve pie, sass AND COMPETENCE! Really! What is law enforcement even DOING in this book?!
With the DEA under-resourced, a terrified and easy-going sheriff and wild men on the loose… Mabel will have to create EVEN MORE TIME to find the girls while they are still alive.

Mabel was a wonder throughout the book . This is one of the reads that takes you on a journey that you don't want to end. The twists and turns were so unexpected and that added to the suspense the plot had promised.
I went through all emotions, felt like I was part of the story.

Missed Me is about Mabel who is a single parent to two boys. Mabel is the main character and Wiltzen does a great job of ensuring the reader quickly becomes invested in her well being by drawing you into an unsolved mystery. Mabel presents as a caring, thoughtful woman with a strong sense of justice.
When Mabel is approached to locate a missing child, she finds she cant resist the challenge even when she learns that a sinister drug lord named Larson is likely to be involved. Mabel bravely stands up to Larson who is renowned for bringing drugs and violence to the town. This is a page turner full of intrigue, suspense and action. While this book can be read without reading Wiltzen's first book, I do recommend readers also read his first novel- Heart of a Runaway Girl, to better understand the dynamics between Mabel and Larson. Overall an entertaining read.

I was frustrated at times when Mabel was going off on her own to investigate the missing girls. You knew it could not end well once she involved her niece in it. I was glad some of her customers helped her stand up to the bad guys.
The part that had the bigger impact on me was some of the people in the community turning on her because the bad guys being arrested affected their businesses bottom line. I could easily see that happening.

Mabel has stirred up quiet a commotion in town going up again the dangerous drug lord Larson who has taken over the town with drugs and violence.
When Lavi asks for Mabel's help with one of his clients missing child she's reluctant at first but ends up taking on the case. Upon further investigation she realizes not only is it one girl but several all leading back to Larson. As Mabel digs deeper not only has she stirred up a hornets nest she has put the ones she trusts and loves in danger by starting a war.
Action packed drama, mystery and suspense that will keep you so intrigued till the very end!!

I would love to give this book more than 5 stars as Mabel is one of my favourite people. Just a mother who runs a diner/motel but when she turns private investigator she lays her life on the line. In this story, while looking for missing teenage girls, she takes on Larson, the drug baron of the county and only one of them can win.

The promise shown by author TREVOR WILTZEN in his first book, HEART OF A RUNAWAY GIRL, has been bettered in his second book, MISSED ME.
Both books feature Mabel Davison, an almost single mom, in the late1980s in rural Washington State. I say an almost single mom because she and her husband Bill are estranged and Mabel is raising their two pre-teenage sons and their 18-year-old niece whose parents are deceased.
Mabel owns a diner and a motel in Blue River, a town in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain range. The town has a failing lumber mill and a startup mining company. Because of the mining operation, Mabel’s businesses are thriving. She is also a part-time private investigator for Lavi Arronson, a public defender attorney in Tacoma.
Drug lord Karl Larson, with whom Mabel crossed swords in book one, controls the whole area. Except for the mining company and that is important for Mabel’s wellbeing. Larson is one nasty piece of work. He runs “parties” at one of his many “farms” where he gives away free alcohol and drugs to attendees most of whom are under 25 years old. Teenage girls are a big part of his enterprise.
In this story, Arronson again approaches Mabel, with whom she worked in book one. He has a client, Candy, a single mother, whose teenage daughter, Angela, has gone missing. Candy is charged with assaulting a police officer. Arronson suspects human trafficking and drugs are involved with the daughter’s disappearance. At his insistence, Mabel reluctantly agrees to look into the case.
The local Sheriff, Dan, is helpless against the power of Larson but he is a good friend of Mabel and a good man. Kerry, Mabel’s niece who is about to graduate high school and attend college, wants to help Mabel and gets into serious trouble. Mabel has to contact a DEA Agent she knew from her first case in order to save Kerry.
Tyrone Jackson is the DEA Agent with whom Mabel worked in book one. He had started an investigation into Larson’s empire and wants Mabel’s help, again. Larson’s influence extends into the Washington State Police so Mabel and Dan cannot trust them.
Mabel is very emotional and those emotions affected this reader. A good sign for a good read. If you are a fan of mysteries, this series is for you. If you interested in how drug lords operate, this is a book for you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Using her skills as a private investigator, she links eight missing girls to the drug lord, Larson. Collaborating with the DEA to rid Larson and his crew from the town, she ends up becoming a target. Will she be able to find the girls and provide the evidence needed to bring Larson down or will he destroy her and everything she loves?
Once again, the town of Blue River is brought to life in Trevor Wiltzen’s Missed Me. Bursting with immense imagery, the reader is absorbed within the second book of the Mabel Davison Series. Captivated to continuing “watching” the story unfold, the pages keep turning.

Don’t you love it when the series just gets better with each book?
In this amazing sequel of Mabel Davison series, the author brings back budding private investigator Mabel with yet another mind-blowing mystery thriller.
I enjoyed this one thoroughly. Plot, pace, narration and characters were spot on as in the first book. The book is broken to short chapters which I really liked, and each chapter holds ample suspense and the right amount of mystery, which keeps us hooked into the next chapter.
When a book is written rightly, you will never realize how you just flew through it till the end, just like this one, a gripping thrilling read!
Strong and absolutely lovable Mabel drives the plot through and through. Mabel’s aura is irrefutable, but we get more of Kerry in this one, another naïve yet strong character whom I came to dearly adore, though I mentally screamed at her a lot while I was at it.
All the characters are portrayed beautifully – realistic and genuine and I could nothing but marvel at the authors craftsmanship. He is definitely one of my favorite Indie authors.
Waiting eagerly for the rest in the series. It’s always an absolute pleasure to ride in with Mabel. She is the best in town. I strongly recommend this one, if you are looking for a captivating thriller, with strong and deep characters 😊

this novel is the 2nd in a series of 3. It can be read as a stand-alone but, trust me, once you get to know Mabel, you’ll definitely want to read them all.
The story begins with diner waitress and part-time PI, Mabel Davison, taking on the case of a single mother, Candy, who is desperate to find her missing, drug-addicted daughter.
The author’s descriptions are vivid, but yet don’t slow the fast-paced plot. Candy’s run- down apartment is easy to visualize. The same can be said of Kerry’s (Mabel’s niece) bedroom- complete with Duran Duran posters and a landline perpetually attached to her ear to chat with bestie, Lisa. As someone who grew up in the 1980s, she could easily have been one of my own babysitters.
Wiltzen also does a tremendous job at humanizing some difficult situations. For instance, the novel may be #histfic but, sadly, society still judges the “Candy’s” of the world as well as their addict children.
Addiction is a disease and this book treats it as such. We not only see Candy struggle but we also see her inner beauty. This is due, mostly in part, to the love and mutual respect that Mabel shows her (and everyone). Mabel’s big heart gets her into trouble, but one thing is clear- she’ll do anything to protect the people she cares about.

This is basically an ok story about a “hotel & cafe owner” turned PI. I find her character to be a bit too “Mumsy” and far to emotional. She cries constantly and I felt it was too much. The story line itself is not bad and it all flowed well. There were some bits that were just totally unbelievable ie the part where the ambulance holding Kerry (who had a serious injury) is diverted through rough terrain to collect more patients - there is no way that would happen.
Also I couldn’t believe how Mabel was portrayed as so incredibly stupid at times - attending a skinhead rave etc a bit too far fetched for me. Dan is a nice character and I like the bit where he reveals about his “friend”, this was done in a sensitive way - but seriously a law Enforcement officer who bends the rules to accommodate a drug lord and one who forgets to take the safety off in a stand off!!! Just felt like he was not credible and could have been portrayed a lot better.
Disappointed as the previous book in this series by the authors of book had such good reviews.

I thought that the author did a good job with the tension and pace of this gripping mystery novel. The protagonist, Mabel, is a reluctant private investigator asked to investigate a case of a missing girl. The cops aren’t interested because they figure that the girl is a drug fuelled runaway and not worth their time.
The author treatment of Mabel gives me the sense that she was drawn from his life. She is a single mother with very little time on her hands as she’s spread thin being a mother, waitress, running a diner and a motel as well as being a part time, if not reluctant, private investigator. She is a powerful, independent woman who wears her heart on her sleeve which makes her a little too vulnerable for the PI part of her world.
Set in the 1980’s, I imagine he chose this time as there was no cell phones or closed camera coverage unlike today. It’s in a small town with a sleepy sheriff who has to walk a fine line with enforcing the law and not being killed by the local drug/crime lord. Mabel pushes things too far and is physically threatened as is her livelihood and her children.
Mr Wiltzen does a fine job of building tension and fear as the plot is driven down a rather predictable road but that takes little away from the story or the characters that he has created. In all, this was an enjoyable read and I look forward to Trevor Wiltzen’s next story.

This book was quite lovely - I really enjoyed Mabel as a character (she reminded me a bit of Miss Marple) and her interactions with her customers and children. I wish I had known it was the second book in a series as I found myself wondering more about Mabel and what happened in the first book as some things in the book would probably make more sense -- what happened with her husband? What about her niece's parents? Parts of the book felt a bit far-fetched such as the standoff in the diner, the kidnapping...etc. I wanted to know more about the abducted girls, especially since I imagine the next book in the series will pick up where this one left off. Who are the still missing two girls? I find myself intrigued by another installment, but will have to go read the first one before I even attempt the next one! Additionally, I wanted to know more about Kyle (how did he fall so far) and Dan (why is he so lenient, who is his boyfriend). Finally, I liked that the story was set before cell phones were so prevalent -- I feel like, in modern books, so much could be solved if people contacted someone or they conveniently don't have cell phone service. A writer that was unknown to me but I definitely want to read more.
The structure of the story was well done. There is a book for this one where many of the characters were introduced, which is noticeable throughout this story. But this was a book that you can read without the previous one and the characters come to life.
A strong female role is described in the 40-something hotel restaurateur, waitress and mother. The town where she lives is oppressed by drug lord Larson but he also makes them money by hiring many men. When Mabel learns that young girls are disappearing, she makes the connection to Larson and tries to uncover the truth. Not everyone in the town is behind her, even working against her and she doesn't know what to do with the sheriff. When her 17-year-old niece disappears, it's a race against time.
Interesting story that is realistic. Police who do not take the disappearances seriously, fellow citizens who do not want to lose their job and a bold woman who will not let herself be stopped.
Highly recommended!

Missed me by Trevor Wiltzen

Based in the late 80's with a tasteful time centric plot Mabel is basically a diner owner turned amateur private investigator. The story itself had so much potential. And I enjoyed the local to me feel, since I live near where this story takes place. It was like opening a time capsule. Regardless of regional accuracy. It was a pretty cool veiw into the past.
That being said. There was so much with this story I had a problem with . The plot was semi unbelievable. On the search for her loved one there is just so much I read that I felt was unbelievable. I didn't love Mabel either , as a character I felt she needed to toughen up and stop crying .
Overall this book was OK . I cant wait to read heart of a runaway girl in order to maybe have a closer understanding of Mabel, as shes a huge role in that one as well ( its the "1st" book but the Author has said missed me is a standalone)

Absolutely excellent!
Picking up after where the last novel ended, Mabel is on the case once again. This time, however, she takes on the challenge of finding Angela, a young girl who has gone missing. She tries to convince herself she is only 'taking a look', but Mabel soon becomes determined to solve the case. One question leads to another and soon, the small town PI is battling enemies she thought she'd left behind, and facing dangers she'd never expected.
So I freakin' love Mabel. I fell in love with her in Heart of a Runaway Girl and I'm so happy that she continues to be a strong, intelligent, and wonderfully written main. Her earnestness to help and her genuine personality makes her one of my favorite PI's. She has limited resources, can get emotional, and often dives into situations without really thinking about it, but she cares like no other, and it just makes me want to follow her on all her cases! Overall, an fantastic read and very much recommended!

What a wonderful sequel to the debut mystery novel, Heart of a Runaway Girl.
I adore Mabel. I want to eat at her diner, have a taste of her best pie, laugh at her dirty jokes, and see exactly how she looks at every lost soul that walks in.
More than that, I wish I could offer her a day off. Mabel is more than a hard working diner owner. She’s Blue River’s P.I. And she’s darn good at it.
Turns out, the biggest thing you need to solve a case is a big heart. Mabel has that in spades. Not surprisingly, so does her niece, Kerry. What was surprising was how this young woman decided to insert herself right into a case only to learn how evil evil really is.
I love Trevor’s endearing characters. Reading his books, I feel like I’m really in the small town. I can hear the sounds of trucks pulling off the highway. I feel like I know what the trailer park parties feel like. And everyone knows a sherif like Dan. He means well, but doesn’t love to ruffle feathers if he doesn’t need to.
Another great book for a series that is surely to continue to impress!
