I received this book as a gift. I think it was a nice quick read. Some of the information was a little obvious, but sometimes it's good to be reminded of "simple" mantras and ideas, things we might forget as we go through life. That being said, there were also some new ideas and metaphors I had never considered, different ways of thinking about a situation. Everything was presented in an easy to read/comprehend fashion. I would pass this book on to any friends/family thinking about starting a new project and/or endeavor.

You know a book is a gem when you can apply the wisdom across multiple domains of your life. Jillian Johnsrud pulls together concepts and techniques for setting healthy boundaries online and offline. This information is targeted towards content creators, but there is something between the pages for everyone.

I appreciate the author’s straightforward style and her willingness to be vulnerable by sharing some of the pitfalls she has faced in her years creating online. Jillian is the older sister who has already “been there, done that” and is willing to teach you the ropes.

This book will be invaluable to content creators through all stages of their journey. If you are considering creating online, this book helps set clear expectations for what challenges you will face when your content collides with “The Dumbasses, Trolls, and Apple Cart People'' of teh interwebs (I see them there, side-eying “teh”). The author gives clear advice on how to fortify and set yourself up for success.

For those who are in the middle of the journey, you have probably already faced one or many of the perils outlined in this book. Jillian assures you are not alone and gives you ideas on how to handle these situations with more grace when they inevitably happen again. And those of you who are seasoned creators, this book will undoubtedly be a touchstone to ground you when it feels like the whole internet has turned against you.

Get your highlighter ready; this book is jam packed with everything you need to know and things you didn’t know you needed to know on how to forge ahead as a creative online. On a side-note, I ordered the soft binding and was delighted that it is a soft touch cover. Bibliophiles rejoice!

After years of working as a personal finance blogger and coach, Jillian Johnsrud knows both the joys of creating content online and the dark side: trolls and critics. In Fire the Haters, Johnsrud helps creatives learn to set boundaries, silence their inner critic, and know how to handle online criticism.

First let me say, that having blogged for years, I can tell you that the advice in Fire the Haters is spot on. Unfortunately, Johnsrud under-utilized the power of stories to illustrate how her advice can be applied in real life, which would have fully rounded out this very short read (under 200 pages).

As it is, Fire the Haters would be an excellent book to hand someone in the midst of such an online crisis. Nothing can truly prepare you for the pain and anger you feel the first time you are attacked online, but advice like this can help you know how to appropriately react, for it does get easier with practice.
