He thought he knew how to save the world. What he doesn't know could change everything.
As the newly-crowned King of the Winter Court, Florian's responsibilities have only grown since he first arrived in the Veil. Still, saving the world seems more appealing than ruling a dying kingdom, so together he and Kade find a reprieve from his new station far to the north with the wolf clan. Meeting Kade's family is a little awkward, with how new their relationship is—and a little bittersweet, as Florian learns what life in the Veil is like outside the Winter Court. But nothing good can last, and duty still calls. The next Golden Arrow is only a day's journey away.
But retrieving it raises more questions than answers, so Florian and Kade seek out the one who set everything in motion in the first place: the mysterious hag who first told Florian's father the prophecy that he would save the world. After hearing what she has to say, though, Florian almost wishes he hadn't known after all...
THE DRAWN ARROW, book two of the Chronicles of the Veil, is a steamy MM paranormal romance featuring fae, shifters, and a trans MC. This 18+ novel contains adult situations.
⚠Content Warnings: Descriptions of grief and trauma-related memory loss. Some violence. Steamy scenes between a trans man and a cis man with a range of gendered terms used for body parts.
Florian and Kade continue their adventure in book two of the Chronicles of the Veil. Florian continues to learn about his powers and I was happy to see him using his shape-changing powers in some fun ways! It was hinted at in book one, so I was glad it actually happened in book 2. Having a trans character that can use magic to make their body look any way they want is such a wonderful idea. Imagine being able to grow certain body parts and make others go away at will. I would have so much fun with that ability. SO MUCH FUN! I would actually love to see Florian use this power even more in book 3.
Real talk: I still feel like I’m not getting enough character development of the main characters. Kade and Florian are just not quite interesting enough to really carry a fantasy series. I feel like Florian in particular needs to be more likable. I just feel like I want him to be more clever or snarky or just … something. Kade is so quiet you don’t get much from him at all. Having it all be from Florian’s POV makes me feel like I have no idea what is going on with Kade. Luckily he does tend to be really open and honest about his feelings with Florian. The magic system is also kind of uninteresting compared to the magic systems in other paranormal fantasy books like Wormwood Summer by Kai Butler, The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, even Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I also feel like everything that happens is just a series of challenges to overcome, not a cohesive story arc. I really loved this author’s Claimed by the Orc Prince trilogy so this series has been a bit disappointing.
I didn’t love the first book, but I wanted to give this one a try. I had the same issues as the first - namely that the characters still don’t feel well developed and the pacing is awkward (although it was a little better in this book). I also felt like not a lot happened in this book and I was hoping for more.
I’m a super picky fantasy reader; I wanted to give this series a try because I really like the author. Not quite my thing, but I do recommend trying it out!
I loved The Drawn Arrow by Lionel Hart. It's the second book in the Chronicles of the Veil series. This book does end in a cliffhanger. So much happened in this book. Some of the questions I had from the first book were answered, and now I have more questions. I love how Florian and Kade's relationship is progressing. I can't wait to read the next book and see if they go after the keys in the dragon territory or Kraken territory next.

This is a good paranormal read, just not as good or interesting or compelling as the author's Orc Prince series. The characters aren't as fleshed out and developed, and they just aren't as exciting and captivating. This my opinion, YMMV.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
