Lady Allison Croft has vowed never to wed. An heiress in her own right, she is determined not to let any man have power over herself or her money. She's convinced herself she can be happy living a quiet life doing charitable works. But when Polly, a former prostitute she's trying to help, is brutally murdered, her entire world is turned upside down.
Inspector Quinn O'Brien has long been fascinated by the beautiful heiress he rescued. For years, he's managed to put his attraction for her aside and focus on his career, but when he starts to investigate Polly's murder, fate throws him and Lady Allison together time and again.
As they explore London's seedy underbelly together, the desire between them flares high. But how can a lady and a police inspector ever build a life together?
I am the award-winning traditional and indie published author of Western Historical Romance and Victorian Historical Romance. My books are deeply emotional and a bit on the dark side.
This is one of those books where I think it would benefit if I had read the previous stories before this one but I saw this one for free on Amazon and just went for it.
Allison and Quinn have a shared history. He brought her back from the continent when her brother had absconded with her many years ago. Since then he has always kept an eye on her. With him being a police inspector and her being a daughter of nobility - they have no chance of being together but he does what he can to keep her safe. When a murder occurs in the house Allison is patron of, Quinn and Allison are thrown together to try and find the culprit before anyone else can be killed.
There were things I loved about this story and some I really didn’t. The worst part of the book was the lack of ending. It feels like a stop gap between the previous instalment and the next with nothing really being resolved. It was horribly frustrating. But one thing which didn’t frustrate was the sexual tension between Quinn and Allison. Oh my! There are some incredibly spicy scenes and they really do have amazing chemistry. But the pacing felt a little quick considering their positions and Quinn’s apparent hesitance upon acting on his desire. Yeah- he doesn’t need much convincing let me tell you! Also the character of Allison read rather young. Yes I know she is all innocent and naive and all that. But I prefer my young heiresses not to feel like they’re straight out of the school room. Especially when they’re trying to prove to their families that they can stand upon their own two feet and be a responsible adult.
If you want a hot romp - pick this book up.
But if you want a complete story perhaps look somewhere else.
I loved this story and its keeping with the theme of the Prometheus books. I read it in a day unusual for me. I could not put it down though I tried occasionally. Luke. Adrian and Morgan's sister finds love with a most interesting man even though she thinks marriage is not het cup of tea. The story also includes a mystery solved but unable to see justice. Funny how nobility was beyond the law.
First, the author owes her readers an explicit declaration in the blurb that there is no solution at the end of this book. Period. I don't appreciate coming to an end and discovering that I need to purchase another book (or two) to find the solution. I won't buy anything from this author for this cheap trick.
The story opens with a fascinating death of a former prostitute, Polly. Lady Allison Croft has saved several former prostitutes. She founded a residence for former prostitutes trying to start a new life in London. But, unfortunately, death comes to Polly's room, similar to Jack the Ripper (slit throat and abdominal cuts aplenty). The author even used the name of the first victim of Jack the Ripper (Polly).
After a couple of chapters covering the hunt for the murderer, the story changes to provide innumerable sex scenes between the main two characters. Then, in the last couple of chapters, the murderer strikes again, and the police are on the trail. I wish the blurb had been more honest. There was no solution to the mystery, and most of the book was an exploration of sexual positions by characters in Victorian England.
Allison, the sister of an earl, and Quinn, a police inspector, met under unusual circumstances. Five years later, a gruesome murder brings them together. This is a steamy story in which an independent young lady pushes the bounds of propriety and finds that the man of her dreams has been dreaming of her too. Allison’s curious nature leads to some very matter-of-fact and rather risque conversations with Quinn. There is something very endearing about Quinn’s ability to mentally set aside his criminal investigation in order to educate and protect Allison. The author does a wonderful job of using the ancillary characters to add conflict and color; and even though the love story takes precident, an undercurrent of horror is ever present. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the next book in the series.

Excellent mystery romance but it is not over yet! What a family she has three brothers who face their demons in a most remarkable way and another brother who was so evil it almost takes your breath away and the lady of tale has set out on a path few would follow but just as remarkable has her other brothers. A lady by birth should not find a Inspector so attractive but she does. Their journey was twisty and full of danger but it does come to a good ending there is just one thing there are murders to solve with no murder captured. Quinn and Allison story was so good and what they did together at the end was awesome. Now let us see if Sebastian will solve the murders I am looking forward to the next book! I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it
I got this book for free, and perhaps it would have been better to have read the prior books to understand more about the current situation. But, while I liked Allison in the sense that she had a good heart, I didn’t like that she was made to seem independent but then portrayed as a spoiled idiot. There was too much tension between her and Quinn dealing with their class difference, and I felt much of that was unresolved or swept under the rug. I didn’t like that no killer was caught, but again I feel like this being book 4 that I missed some parts at the other books and being a series that we have to keep reading to find out if the murderer gets caught or punished. Honestly though, I wasn’t a fan of the writing so I have no desire to go back and read about her brothers, or read into the future to see if my theory of who the murderer is correct.
4.5 stars I really like the plot and how Quinn is all soft on Allison. The mystery was real good too and it portrays what it is really like with class difference in the old times. The fact that the lady is in a higher status makes it rare (maybe for me, but I rarely see this kind of character setting). The only thing that makes me reduce half a star is that I really want to see more of the other character's life after their stories. I understand that Allison lives with Lucien, but I really want to see more of the life of other brothers as well. Overall, it was a really good story and I really enjoyed it !!
This was a good read with an interesting mystery and romance. I enjoyed the author's writing style and attention to historical details. It was interesting to read about old London and compare it to the places of modern London, but maybe that's just my history-nerd talking! Unfortunately, I didn't feel much of a connection to the main characters and I also think their relationship progressed quite quickly - their connection seemingly appeared overnight. Still, an entertaining read with a good style of writing.
It's a quick, light read with a skeleton of a story that moves from one spicy part to another. It could be picked apart for the recycling of the plot of a Regency era woman who is frustrated by her life being dictated by others because she is female, meets someone who is an inappropriate love match, etc., but this is hardly the book you pick up if you're looking for something deeply intellectual or original. If you want a mildly spicy love story, then it's worth the reas.
The fourth book in the Unmasking Prometheus series, this series is just getting more intense with each new book. Lady Allison Croft and Inspector Quinn O'Brien do not meet under the best of circumstance. These two belonged together, but he will have to find a way to accept that she has money. I enjoyed seeing them get their happy ending. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book left me hanging, but I think it's because it's part of a series with an overarching storyline that keeps it from having a real ending. I liked the characters, especially the police inspector, Quinn. Well written. The storyline was pretty good with the mysterious deaths and the rules of society being outraged by the heroine and hero on the Q.T. And then they were seen, of course. Recommended
A lot of compromising has to happen to make relationships work, and it's pretty evident in this story line that Allison and Quinn have to do just that, as the financial issues are in Allison's favour. That is difficult for men to accept. This is another enjoyable read. As I have mentioned before, there is quite a lot of modern language . With all the rolling that goes on you can understand why engagements are so very short.
Characters are believable, some are people you'd really like to know, or have live next door. The Good Deeds are something that I would have thrown my heart into, and a bit of steamy romance without all that 'Tab A into Slot B' graphics! Mrs read this one, ignore what Amazon says! Totally not WFH's style, but I do share bits I love! Barbara
This is the 4th book in prometheus series, Allison and Quinn,s story, it too will steal your heart Allison and Quinn are far apart in society, but their love can't be denied. Thank you♥️
I loved this book! Allison and Quinn are wonderful characters that you can't help but root for. I can't wait for the next one in the series to find out more about the intriguing subplot that's set up in this one.
Not a trope I have tried before but I loved:) It was so refreshing that Quinn and Allison actually told each other how they felt throughout. The spice was fantastic. I just wish it was longer. It would have been great to see have read more how they were once they were married

The murder mystery and the romance were too conflicting to work together. It felt incomplete and clunky. Will still continue with the series, but this one isn't my favorite.
The story was good with realistic characters, but the ending wasn’t. Very little resolved and no final scene. Left me disappointed rather than wanting more,
This is a compelling story with strong characters and a plot that kept me riveted. A good installment of the series. Looking forward to the next book. Recommended for fans of the genre and the series.
Mystery and romance intertwine to make an entertaining story. I enjoyed the dynamic between Quinn and Allison. An attraction, different class, danger and a satisfying love story.
