Catharina Maura is a USA Today and Amazon #1 bestselling author. She writes angsty, fast-paced contemporary romance novels that break your heart before they lead you to a hard-won happily ever after.
Cat lives in Hong Kong with her husband and a dozen houseplants that all have names. When she isn't daydreaming about future characters, she's exploring the world and seeking out new adventures.
Professor Astor is a cheesy novella. I said novella because it is short. Not much on character development nor the plot. It os very straight forward story.
Despite that, I enjoyed this very much. I really do. Miss Maura dome a good job bringing the sexiness into the central attention. The narrators also done a good job bringing the story alive.
DNF @ 2% - what’s the point of a “professor” book or a “nanny” book if the h is 30 years old?? 👀🙄🙄🙄 Nothing taboo or “forbidden” about that. Not for me.

it was boring, the characters were 2D and i didn't particularly like the writing style or felt any connection to the characters or bought their romance. overall just meh.
Okay as an Indian who lived outside India for most of her life, reading this book made me so happy. Yes, it was relatable in so many instances and I couldn't stop mentally giggling when Leia didn't want to answer the phone and talk to relatives she barely remembered! 😂 I'll be honest, I was pissed when the author wrote Indian names in the book because there's something annoying about non Indians trying to write about Indians. But my "skimming behaviour" brought me to the authors note at the very end and I got to know the author is Indian herself! That got me reading like a proper human being way too fast! And yes, I loved everything about the story.
Although the title suggests this is a student-teacher romance and that's exactly what dragged me in to read Professor Astor, I will not be shelving it as such.
Primarily because I feel like the trope was used as a bait since the fact that Leia is a PhD student and Adrian is her new supervisor bears no significance to the actual story, considering that she is also his nanny, his cousin's best friend, his teaching assistant, his never-forgotten ONS... It's very insta-lovish and cringey at times, especially when Adrian calls Leia his "wifey" in the first chapter (as a joke, but later on; still too soon; its not even a joke anymore). They're madly in love, the resisting each other period lasted a whole chapter and a half lol, and everything was just too perfect.
The plot twist, if there ever was one, made no difference since Adrian is conveniently a member of Astor College founding family. Alice was also conveniently placed at the 60% mark, suddenly wanting to spend time with her children and trying to win her ex-husband back, the one she left, not the other way around.
However, I really liked how the author included her (Indian) culture in the book, it was refreshing and I liked that FMC was traditional (and a Minecraft player haha).
It's a cute book, but something was missing. I might check out other books by this author.
The only reason I picked this up was because I heard it was a teacher/student romance and I needed a good one but the trope didn’t gave what it needed to give. The fact also Adrian’s name was also THOR???? BFFR. These two literally gave me the ick. The two stars is because of the desi representation and the way the way various factors of desi culture was presented, I.e the strict parents.
4.5🌟 One thing about me I am going to eat up a forbidden trope. But the fact Adrian was also a single dad and this was was a professor x student trope made reading this story. Anyways I adore Leia being able to read about a FMC who is passionate about her education and seeing her fall in love when she thought it wasn’t in the card for her was beautiful. I adore Colt and Lucy their twin energy was so cute and love their own interactions with Leia. Can’t wait to read more for Catharina.
Catharina Maura is my queen and this one was really cute but I’m taking a whole star off my rating because the nickname Thor is a criminal offence and I hate it
PROFESSOR ASTOR!!! I am obsessed with Adrian. He’s the sweetest. He doesn’t leave room for miscommunication. He doesn’t play games. He’s secure, loyal, and the best dad. Absolutely deserving of the title Thor. Top 5 for book boyfriends.
Ley, she’s strong, independent, intelligent, and confident. I LOVE a strong female. One who doesn’t play into the miscommunication and run away when things get hard. She’s a ride or die type. She’s not jumping ship and making anyone chase her. I absolutely love it. Even tho she’s been through hell that life has thrown her she’s come out so strong and secure.
Ley and Thor are my favorite couple in this series so far.
The spice is spicy, the banter is great, the story isn’t repetitive. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Professor Astor is part of Catharina Maura’s Off-Limits series which I’ve been binging lately. All the books in this series are forbidden/off-limits. In this one the heroine and hero share a one-night stand, then years pass and they meet again…when he’s her professor and PhD supervisor and she’s also his new nanny for his two kids! 👀
Leia and Adrian meet at a bar and end up sharing a night together. They give nicknames but don’t share any other details about themselves. Both feel a strong connection even though it’s only one night together. But after he leaves the next morning, she realizes he gave her a wrong number and she should probably just move on. We then cut to 2 years later! Adrian is divorced and has custody of his two kids, but he never forgot about the woman he shared that one-night stand with 2 years prior. When Leia walks back into his life, he definitely sees it as fate.
“That day in my office when I told you that you’re mine, I failed to make it clear that in return, I’m yours too. I’ve been yours from the moment you proclaimed yourself my wife on our very first date.”
I loved Leia’s relationship with his kids, it was so fun and sweet seeing her close connection with them both when she’s their nanny! She’s so protective and caring for them immediately. There is some complications with Leia having children of her own in the future since she did have cancer in the past. Adrian is a possessive hero and I loved seeing his relationship with Leia progress! Leia’s family is showcased a lot in the story, she’s Indian and I liked the way her culture and family life was portrayed. It definitely added depth to her character and some more barriers for her and Adrian to overcome. This was definitely my fav in the series so far, really enjoyed the audio too!
1.5 stars. I skimmed parts of this book because it was so incredibly boring. I usually don’t mind insta love, but this book took it way too far - during their first meeting they were already calling each other “hubby” and “wifey” and he was ready to marry her. When they met again two years later he’s her professor and she is also his children’s nanny so she tries to stay away, but it doesn’t last long and again he’s taking any marrying her and professing his love. One good thing about the book was that there was no third act break-up and that it was “them against the world,” but I just felt like their love was way over the top and cringey.
The writing didn’t help either. Everyone spoke extremely directly and had long monologues. Words were repeated frequently like here:
“I hold her up, my hands on her ass as she deepens our kiss, her tongue stroking mine. The way she moves her body against mine tells me she wants me just as badly, and there’s something so magical about this moment, here in one of my favorite places. Ley pulls away for a moment, her forehead resting against mine as we both catch our breath, the two of us lost in this moment.”
I love that he calls her wifey on their first date. I love how obsessed he is with her, even if his priorities are his twin kids.
Adrian (cousin to her best friend) is newly divorced when he meets Leila. She and and pretend to be husband and wife with kids (cause she can't have any) when they first meet... and he, after an amazing Night, he gives her the wrong number on purpose.
They meet again... 2 yrs later. He's her professor and by magic.. she's his nanny. I loved this book. I loved how sweet Adrian was, how supportive through every obstacle. ❤️ I loved the Indian culture, too.
This book was beyond my expectations. I was giggling and feeling butterflies while reading it. I felt all kinds of emotions. And the forbidden part—the issues one can face being in a relationship with a professor—felt so real. Catharina Maura showed a very true and realistic view of Indian society, not some prejudiced kinds of stuff which one can see in Western films and series. And I was quite sceptical that she might not be able to show it properly or it might be able to show the culture but she wrote those parts very well. As an Indian I loved it. And I can't agree more.
