Caitlin does it again

This book has Attina's journey continuing. She's been bitten by the solais but doesn't turn. The bite us a mystery on how it impacts her newly discovered powers.

The relationship of her childhood bestfriend and herself sours as his possesiveness takes hold of him and he's trying to tie Attina to himself by any means.

She merts a confidant in this new world when her father is no longer there.

Ned picks up the training her father left at. Helping her reach her potential.

You then have her attraction to her enemy, who is a full Fae, Allister heats up. She's left bewildered but decides to trust him and allow him to help.

Ned, Raven now her Fae horse, Allister and herself go on their first mission to bring back supplies for the compound.

On their journey they are met w. Test which Attina uses her powers to defend them all.

This was another amazing story and I cant wait for book 3 next year!

This was good!

Attina becomes more of a badass as she's now able to seriously fight and the more she comes into her newfound powers she's able to hold her own even better! She's still dealing with stuff from the first book since she has trauma from it and the way it's done doesn't make me feel as though she's weak, she's feels more real having the trauma she does.

Her and Raven are serious best friends in this one and I love Raven so much! I seriously hope nothing ever happens to her because I love their gossiping and how much they care for each other.

Ned definitely steps in a father figure and also deserves nothing bad happening to him, which I feel like won't continue because of James (whose seriously getting on my nerves and needs to feel all of Attina's wrath the second she gets all her powers under control!).

Speaking of James he does get something of an ass kicking but I still want him to feel more of her wrath, if you couldn't tell. This boy has serious problems and needs to be taken down a peg or two. I feel like there's also something in his backstory that's missing that would possibly explain his seriously insane behavior. That I just kinda wanna know more about the tribe he was in since they are still a big mystery

Now Allister. I love him. I wasn't sure what to think of him at first but he grew on me and him and Attina are *chef's kiss*. They work so well together and the reason it thought they'd be together was that reason. His fighting abilities are really cool too and I just love their connection they develop.

Now I just have to wait, sadly, for the next one to see when the hell James gets his deserved ass kicking!!

I received this ARC from the author and Books of Match Media in exchange for an honest review. I’m really digging this book world and the main characters.... But those side characters can honestly just go away.... They are annoying and bring nothing to the table. Raven’s back and forth with Attinna is truly exhausting and I want nothing to do it.

I really love the book world and I want to know more about it, but I feel like this sequel was almost a repeat of the first book. There was so much time spent on Attina’s training like in the first book and I was just glazing over it sometimes. Sorry not sorry.... I just felt there was not enough progression of the pot for me to make it feel like a true sequel.

However, Allistair and his banter was the book’s true guiding light and it gave me the light I needed to continue the series. I would love to see where this story is going as well, but please no more training....

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

The book begins right where the first one ended. Attina is waking up in a new place called The Sanctuary. After walking and riding for days AND being bitten by a Solis she is finally getting a little bit better until she is face to face with James.

The 2nd book has been way more amazing than the 1st one. We’re getting 3 POVs, more action, even more world-building, and also character building because Attina is finally growing and shows that she can be a queen.

This time I really enjoyed her, she stood her ground and even tho she still had panic attacks she fought through them and fought back including James. And she is becoming a true queen. It's indeed a slow character development but a really good one.

Allister & James are such complete characters, one is good but shows as bad, and one is bad but looks as being good. Such deceiving characters and they take you by surprise when you read them – they’re definitely not what they seem to be.

This time the book has been faster and more action and adventure focused. If the first one was slower and more focused on the development of the characters and the world-building, the 2nd one will deliver lots of plot twists, gasping moments, and also very sweet moments. I love the feelings that are developing between Attina and Allister and I’m so excited about reading more about them.

There might be a small trigger warning – when comes to James, he is way more controlling and more abusive. It didn’t trigger me but some people might get triggered by it.

Overall the book is really great, I will definitely follow through with the next ones in the series because I want to know what happens next.

Most of the times I hear people say that first book of the series is always good compared to other ones but here second book is so much more enjoyable than the first book. I admire the way this book is written, it is easy to read and surprisingly gives warmth. ‘She Rises’ has so much action, drama and emotions to it. Many secrets are revealed, true colours of the characters are uncovered and our psycho here JAMES becomes more irritating day by day.

The story takes interesting twists and turns which kept me hooked. Attina gains so much knowledge and explores her energy. Seeing her develop so strongly makes me smile every now and then. She’s one strong female character I know and l admire her for so.

Allister is the fae which seemed very promising in the first book and he didn’t disappoint me at all. As I said in the review of the first book that he could be an ally and in the second book that came true, the reasons behind it are so amazing and it adds spice to the character and the story.

Raven here is Fae horse and damm she’s so intriguing, gives perfect advice and doesn’t stop herself from speaking her mind. Ned is the side character which grows on me eventually and gives a warm feeling to read. King Henrik is a tyrant and need to be ended, how these characters are going to accomplish it will definitely have a lot of action packed drama. I will be waiting for the third book for it.

I am sad to say I couldn’t finish this book. It put me in a place of finding anything else to do but read.

The relationship between Attina and James gave me the “ick.” I know it is supposed to, but her inner monologue about their relationship just didn’t evolve. Once in the second book, I would have liked to see her become stronger, at least in her thinking. It is possible it did later in the book but I couldn’t get past chapter 10 (25%).

Raven the fae talking horse is too much for me. I grew up on the beach in the Southern California and I never had a horse so I maybe I don’t understand the bond a girl can have with her horse. If you love horses, then this is a story for you but for me the relationship felt exaggerated and didn’t add to the story.

Once Attina met Ned, it just seemed like him being half fae and immediately wanting to train her was too easy. I would have enjoyed there being more buildup on this part of the story compared to her constantly thinking about James.

The writing overall seemed more frazzled though I don’t recall coming across any spelling or grammatical errors.

If anyone sees this and understands where I am coming from but thinks these issues get better within the book/series, please let me know! I want to know how Attina’s journey ends, but not at the cost of being in a reading slump that could last days or weeks.

She Rises by Caitlin
4/5

She Rises is the sequel to She Awakens by Caitlin Denman. The She Awakens series is a unique blend of zombie apocalypse meets fae. Book 2 was packed with action, magic, fae, emotional upheval, and a smidge of spice.

Attina really comes into herself in this book. Although her powers are still manifesting and more controlling her than she is them. Her powers manage to keep her safe but also serve to alert any fae in the area of her budding strength.

The reader learns more about Allister and where his true motives lie. I love the developing relationship between Attina and Allister. They are not quite an enemies-to-lovers situation, but there is certainly tension of ALL types brewing between them.

My favorite character is Raven. Although Raven is a fae horse, that doesn’t stop her from showing affection, kicking ass, and telling it how it is. She is there for Attina in a way that is supportive and motivational. Raven also is so sarcastic and snarky, she makes me cackle.

I look forward to reading book three when it is released next year. If you like fae, dystopian/apocalyptic, and a quick-paced book, She Awakens is for you!

This is book 2 in the She Awakens Series and is the Sophmore Debut for Author Caitlin Denman. I found Caitlin through bookstagram and I am so glad that I did.

This is the second book in the series and I found so much improvement from the first. The story continues following Attina as she finds her way in Sanctuary. She is determined to find owt who she really is and grows so much in the book. Attina has to work on her magic, deal with James...who by the way is still very creepy to me, figure out how to take down the evil Fae king and save humans and Fae alike. There are new characters introduced and I am loving Ned as a father figure to Attina. Raven is still in the mix and we get to see so much more of Allister in this book. I am really loving his character and his sexy banter with Attina is the best. In She Awakens, I found some Pacing issues but this one was really smooth and fun to read. I loved all of the action scenes as they were very well written. This book is really enjoyable and I can't wait to read the next in the series! i give this book 5 stars

She Rises starts up right where we left off at in She Awakens. I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment, especially the moments when Allister is around more.

I will say, James' chapters were a little unsettling, mainly because he's such a possessive and egotistical character. I don't particular like characters that are so "manly" and "I'm the best thing for them" but Denman makes James have a little more depth, which is great!

I need more of Allister and Attina. I can't get enough of them and want more than just a few snippets of their romance. Like, I need MORE. But's it's okay, I can learn to wait!

I especially liked that more of the world they live in is discovered more thoroughly. We're led to believe that there are so few towns and cities, but the further this story develops the more we get to learn about the world Attina lives in. It's vast and unforgiven. I like that Attina is coming into her own now, and learning how to use her powers.

Overall, this read was four stars. It would be five, but James sours it for me xD

In the second book of the She Awakens series, Attina and Raven have reached Sanctuary - an underground human settlement established to protect humans from the Fae. Attina found out that she is the rightful heir and can save lives by taking over the throne. She finds a new confidant Ned
and together they set out to train to defeat the Fae King, Henrik. But when Allister shows himself again her world is turned upside down as the lines between friend and enemy are blurred.

I loved reading this book! The relationship dynamic is my absolute favorite. Attina and Raven's friendship is beautiful to watch. Ned was an amazing addition to the team. I loved watching them protect Attina especially from James, who successfully kept getting creepier.

The existence of Allister is a balm to my soul. He is the energy we need in our lives. I loved every moment of his banter with the gang. It was fun watching their relationship evolve. I can't wait to read the sequel.

3.5 stars.

So far, I’m liking this series. I love the concept of the spirit animals and Attina and Alister getting together. I’m also ready enjoying the build up of her powers and the solis twist.

James is a POS and seriously just needs to die. He gave me creepy vibes from chapter one book one so I’m not about him living. I’m still trying to understand this obsession though. Like is just an OCD thing or what? We know he had no friends as a kid and latched onto attina so I guess I’m needing more backstory.

The reason why I couldn’t give this a 4 was mostly because of grammar. As another author I know it’s incredibly hard to catch them all but this book had more than book one. It also had a lot of repetitiveness which threw me out of the storyline a lot.

Don’t let that stop you from reading this book though, the plot is great, the characters are good and the romance is strong. If an author can make you hate a character (James) then they’ve done a great job!

Attina has been thrown for twist after twist in just a few weeks. Her life went from predictable and boring, to half her family being killed, to fighting to learn about magical powers. Her temper is always simmering, ready to get the best of her, and she gets new help with training beyond what her father was able to give her.

Something is going on with James, like he has been possessed. His need for dominance and to wholly possess and isolate Attina is frightening and ugly for someone who had been her best friend since early childhood. Allister provides delightful banter and blunt Raven is always honest. Attina makes some new friends, and enemies, and continues to not give up on her quest. She is learning the Fae aren’t all evil and learning to trust in others besides her Fae horse, Raven. She’s even learning to trust in herself. Like a phoenix, she rises from the ashes.

Content warning for domestic violence.

She Rises begins just where She Awakens left off. There are some things I would like explained, but since they didn't come up in this book, I don't think they will.

Denman does a fantastic job of weaving this tale. The settings were described perfectly. The characters have shown growth, and the plot is well-developed.

This book was more action-packed than the first one. A lot of the world building was done in book 1, so it moves along quickly.

All the original cast came back, and some new characters were introduced. Attina is becoming stronger. James is becoming more psychotic. Allister is still my favorite. I would love to see more from his POV. Ned was introduced in this book. He's a well-rounded character that was easy to like. I liked Raven more in the first book than in this one, but it would still be amazing to have a talking horse.

I can't wait to read this next one.

Caitlin Denman does it again in the She Awakens series, it had what I enjoyed from the first book. I had enjoyed getting to know Attina and Raven again, it was what I was hoping for in this type of book. Caitlin Denman does a great job in continuing the story and had a great writing style for this.

"He simply stands there staring at me like he can stare a hole right through me, into my very heart. I bring my hand up, slightly struggling against James’s grip on my arm long enough for me to cup his face. “James, what’s going on? This isn’t you. You would never hurt me, but right now, you are hurting me.” The words slip off of my tongue like silk. I see when what I’ve said registers because his features shift. His brown eyes turn soft, I see my James return to them."

I liked this one better than the first! It’s longer and gives all of the characters a lot more depth. The story is quite fast-paced, making for a pretty easy read. I loved seeing Attina finally coming into her powers and self. The romance with Allister is mostly well done, although it certainly falls into a very predictable plot.

James chapters are very uncomfortable, and I’m not sure altogether necessary. I would rather see him through Attina’s eyes, as it helps to understand why she struggles to see how bad he is. I also struggled with some of the writing – there is a lot of modern slang in a more medival fantasy setting, which I personally find a bit jarring, though that may just be my own preference. Still, overall it is an enjoyable read.

Sum up of the book:

This book is the second installment and leaves off right where She awakens left off.
Raven and Attina find themselves trying to navigate this new place known as the sanctuary.

Review :
I feel like Attina faced a lot in this book and really matured.
Raven is still my favorite character but Allistair is a close second. I can’t wait for the third book to see what happens. After reading the first book I was really hoping Attina would do some buttkicking and I wasnt disappointed. I have a feeling she’s going to become even more of a badass. Of course I'm also hoping raven kicks some butt too in the third book.

Book 2, the story resumes after book 1. The YA story is slow-paced as the story follows Attina finding more characters to follow through her arc, while there is a relationship strain between Attina and James. The book is written in the present tense, so readers read the narrative in real-time. A personal pleasant way to read since nothing in the future can be foreseen and readers learn what happens at the same time as the characters.

It was impossible to put this book down! I had to know what would happen next.

I genuinely enjoyed getting to learn more about the Fae especially reading Allister's pov when he was in shadow Mountain.

Reading about Attina's combat and magic training was fascinating and useful in learning more about the magic system. It was also enjoyable reading about Attina form a new bond to someone who is like her and is able to guide her through this confusing time. However, her "relationship" with James had me create more of an emotional attatchment because this is the one aspect in this fantasy world that any reader can relate to and may or may not have experienced. So this made me root for Attina in a completely different way than before.

She rises picks up where we left off in She Awakens. This one is a slow burner during the first half as we see Attina enter her proper training at Sanctuary. We meet a new character, mentor Ned, and watch Attina grow in power, confidence and courage. James is still an arse (an even bigger one than before) and Allister is still gorgeously intriguing 💜. I’m enjoying the whole story so far and I’m intrigued to see where the story goes!

Growing powers. Elemental powers. Protective powers.

The storyline picks back up as the characters continue in the battle toward peace and finding rightful place while searching for answers to the past and finding new allies.

Strong character development. Detailed world building.

"I wish you would let me in. I'm not the enemy here."

She Rises picks up right where the first book left off, and I enjoyed the growth of Attina’s character as she learns more about her heritage and abilities. This book has some great tropes and moments (training montage, “who did this to you,” found family), and I enjoyed the different conflicts that are introduced as Attina starts to discover more about herself and her role in this world of human vs. fae.

Fun action and entertaining world! Enjoy the magical aspects and the character banter. Plus, a bit of sweet romance!Attina is still trying to learn about her magic, and she’s learning how to protect herself better. There’s bad people that need to be taken down some pegs; hopefully Attina and her friends are up to the task! Interesting adventure! Looking forward to more!
