There are times when sitting on the couch in front of the TV seems infinitely preferable to rolling the motorbike out of the garage for a ride or putting the boots on to go for a hike, yet it’s rare that one regrets the effort. In this collection of motorcycling road trips, garage misadventures, bike reviews and reminiscences, I try to convey my joy of riding, even when things don’t always work out perfectly. Although long distance travel has been severely curtailed by the Covid epidemic, I still managed to squeeze in a few short trips, encountering some interesting roads (some might argue ‘unsuitable’ for the bikes I was riding) and intriguing situations along the way. As baby-boomers like myself get older and the median age of motorcyclists climbs ever higher, it’s easy to find the couch more appealing than the bike seat. But don’t let those aching joints and wasted muscles hold you back. Life is short. The time is now.Do it while you still can.
British-born Canadian motorcyclist and archaeologist.
There is more than one author named Nick Adams on Goodreads. The science fiction author is here, and the Australian-born conservative commentator on American politics here.
Being a English transplant in the USA since 95 and a keen motorcyclist enjoyed his British CAnadian terminology. Having broken down on the side of the road with a 86 Goldwing wondering what direction to follow. My old bike days maybe not over, but I like the feeling the bikes going to keep going. His journey s on the logging roads are interesting, seems to be a Canadian thing. Van lovers on YouTube are all about that. I must have enjoyed the book, read it in less than a week, my kindle is full of books i have not finished. Do not think I have seen a Panther motorcycle, need to check that out.
Enjoyed this. Probably my favorite part was the authors views on that particular make of motorcycle and its riders. Not all riders, but probably a great deal of them. Sums up perfectly why I’ve never been compelled to buy one and probably never will. I don’t fit in with that crowd, at all. I’m more like the author.
Enjoyable read. Not sure what Nick likes the most. Riding the gravel back roads & trails or using his mechanical experience to solve annoying problems with his aging bikes. Keep on writing. Sadly you are part of a vanishing breed
As a new retiree I too enjoy my older bikes and working on them. I 'm currently putting a 1948 H-D S-125 together (3 hp output) not sure how far I'll go with that. Your stories were great, I'm going to checkout your other books.
This book has a good combination of technical knowledge of older motorcycles as well as very well written descriptions of rides that I may do in the future. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this tale from Nick Adam’s. Been riding since ‘64 and have travelled some of these same roads. Looking for to others in the series. Enjoy his YouTube experiences too.
