A spontaneous adventure north, a catastrophic attack, and a surprising realization, culminate into the perfect storm, bringing Claire and Talon together under unexpected circumstances. When they attend the long-awaited Tournament's Ball, the changes between them grow too numerous to count. Meanwhile, things spiral out of control across Dragonwall. The Sprites secretly rally under a new and mysterious leader. The Dwargs show themselves for the first time. And help often comes from unexpected places. The path of the world is becoming more certain with each day. Claire must navigate it, learning more about herself and what she’s capable of, if she is to confront a fate that seems so certain.
Melissa Mitchell is a fantasy romance author best known for her seven-book Dragonwall series.
She fell in love with fantasy at a young age after discovering The Dragonriders of Pern, and she’s been chasing dragons, magic, and epic love stories ever since. Her books often feature beloved tropes like hidden royalty, slow-burn romance, and the undeniable tension of only one bed.
When she’s not writing, Melissa holds a PhD in physics and works as an optical engineer. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, a husky, and four very spoiled bunnies. She also enjoys baking cookies, bullet journaling, and figure skating—usually while thinking about her next book.
I'm honestly kind of disappointed. I felt that certain reveals could have been more impactful. I find this Talon/Claire thing dragging out to be a bit much. I'm over them. I no longer like either of them, and I'm far more interested in the side characters. There were also several small errors in the book which should have been caught in editing. I'll probably continue with the series, but I'm not excited for the next one. Meh.
Verath the Red by Melissa Mitchell ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐⭐⭐/5 YA/ 🌶5
📑SYNOPSIS: A spontaneous adventure north, a catastrophic attack, and a surprising realization, culminate into the perfect storm, bringing Claire and Talon together under unexpected circumstances.
✏️MY THOUGHTS: Oh, my goodness! This book took me for a ride!!!! The freaking reveal towards the end of the book made me scream from happiness, then literally a page later made me almost throw the book across the room and scream from frustration (do not worry I am a book dragon, I will never actually throw a book, but I did imagine it flying across the room), and then few pages later I was able to sigh in relief.... My gosh these were some stress filled minutes of my life. I am fairly sure I lost some hair and gained some gray ones lol
The battle scenes, drama, and my sweet baby drengr getting hurt and being unalived tore my poor heart open. I am so nervous about the next book!
I love that we get more insight now with the other shields as they are funny, sassy, and super protective! I want all of them to get their happy ending! I am sending all my prayers to the bookish gods that my sweet Cyrus will be able to find his mate in the afterlife somehow, because that male deserves the world!
Also, I am on fire from the slow burn with some characters. These two need to get officially together and announce it to the world and get down to business here! The world is on fire, you do not have time to waste!
Also, I am officially in Talon's Fanclub now, I forgive him for his naughtiness, and we can be best friends now :)
I may have missed my chance (for now) to own a copy, but when I realized the full story was on Wattpad, I couldn't deprive myself of reading this--the third installment--in the Dragonwall Series.
I never tire of the lush descriptions, the atmospheric scenes, or the complexities of the main and supporting characters. While Claire oftentimes annoys me, she is undeniably human in her errors and flaws, and more importantly, she grows and becomes the person she's meant to be--and thus, the champion Dragonwall needs.
And as always, I appreciate how the supporting characters and their lives are every bit as important, that the whole world doesn't revolve around Claire and Talon, and that they play as integral a role as either of those two. I also appreciate that we don't have to wait until the end of the series to find out certain major info, but I'm also glad that there's so much left to learn (or to see the impact of).
I like the fact that although this is a continuous story, Melissa Mitchell does not leave us in a cliffhanger.
I can't wait for more...
A few spelling mistakes, which usually annoy me, but in this case I was so enthralled by the story that it did not take more than a few seconds of my time to backtrack and make a note of them.
Packed with action and revelations. Some of them predictable, some of them hidden gems.
Although I dread the wait for the next book, I love the pace Mellissa Mitchell is taking with this series. Not overstretching the story and at the same time, giving enough detail and telling enough background stories that I am sure will come together in the books to come, just like some of them already came together in this book.
It is the perfect pace for this story. Nothing is rushed. Everything takes the time it has to take and that adds a depth to the story that would be impossible to achieve if rushed. Please do not change a thing.
I know this is a series that I will read a lot in the years to come (unless it goes bad... Melissa, if you are reading this, please do not make it go bad) and I confess that I read Talon's and Reyr's book again before reading Verath's just so I could get inside Dragonwall's world once more.
We get to see a bit more of the shields and how funny they can be. I fell in love with them all over again.
For me, this is the best book in the series so far. It is amazing to me that every book in this series surpasses the previous one. I hope the next book beats this one, just as this book beat Reyr's and Reyr's book beat Talon's.
Although I am anxious to read the next book, I do not mind waiting if the final product is anywhere near this one. That's how much I love this series.
I know I read a good book when I am so wrapped around in the story that I cannot pick up anything for a couple of days after. It's very rare for this to happen to me, and I am surprised that it did with an indie author, but Melissa Mitchell, you did it. And for that, I thank you.
Finishing this book in the Dragonwall series, has left me with all sorts of emotions from heartbreak, anger and happiness in all different ways. I was eagerly anticipating when a few different dragons FINALLY admitted their feelings or completed the mating bond or just admitting truths, so everyone knew what the heck was going on. I was honestly jumping up and joy for everyone. Throughout the story, the bond growing more prevalent for Claire & Talon was just incredible and then when they got to the point of knowing without doubt that they were true mates melted my heart. My heart did break for Reyr in all that he dealt with but knowing that every shield, the king and every friend they encountered still had each other's back. We are definitely seeing more of how the dynamics of the war raging on will come to fruition but eager to see how Claire will enact on the promise she made to defeat Cain who is wreaking havoc everyone and for everyone. Gosh dang that dude has a serious problem. My heart did break for Saffra as well but I am glad my suspicions about Bedelth weren't wrong even if I still feel bad for Saffra all together.
My favorite quotes from Claire & Talon in the book: -The greatest prison a person can build is one of fear over what others might think. You could spend an entire lifetime fortifying the bars. I choose not to.
-Tonight, you are far too stunning to quarrel with. Why? Because I'll win every argument we start? Precisely. I cannot think straight around you, especially now
-I don't want to lose you. Not when I've only just found you.
-I will miss you more than a dragon misses the sky. More than the sun misses the horizon. More than the moon misses the stars. Hurry back to me, mate. Please....hurry back to me.
I seriously cried more with this book than anything and it was well appreciated knowing that Claire & Talon finally were able to realize that they were both mated and are absolutely perfect for each other. I am glad though that the author has continues the series so now.....off to book 4!
It has a past, present, and future. It has secrets, war, and a slow burn that tugs at your heart strings!
By far Verath the Red is my favorite book in this series so far. But don’t get me wrong Ryer is still my favorite Dragon 😍.
I loved this soo much it’s hard to write without spoilers but here we go…
This book continues to follow Claire and her adventure in this new world of Dragonwall. What seems like a simple task of returning stones turns into a whole new journey and twisted fates.
With other characters journeys intertwined, they all lead to the same goal- defeating the most feared and twisted villain. Everyone has a role in the fate of the new world.
Claire- is fierce, a force to be reckoned with and such a strong sense of self.
Talon- what a king! Giving and just but a temper to match. His development in this book melts your heart.
The shields- Verath, Beldeth, Koldis, Jovaris and Cyrus (still present in magic) are all fun to follow in these books.
All the other characters are all so well done it’s easy to connect to each one.
I’m enamored by this tale that im thankful it’s a long series!
Melissa Mitchell what a talent and what an honor it is to read this work. Cannot wait for all the rest of the books to be released!
God I love this series so much, this book was so good!!! It made me feel all of the emotions and then some!! This one is def my favorite in the series so far!! This was part of my first re-read of the series after being officially published (OG fan from Wattpad over here!!) But I only ever got as far as Verath the Red on Wattpad and that was in 2019 I think, so I honestly have no idea what to expect with the future books but I’m so excited I literally cannot wait!!! This book series is honestly my favorite series of all time, nothing comes close to it! I was so sad finishing this book because I didn’t want it to end but then I was like wait there’s still 4 more books after this! So while I’m excited there’s still so much more waiting for me in Dragonwall, I’m still heartbroken I have to wait a few months before Koldis the Green comes out 😢 But the wait will be 10000% worth it!!! Can’t wait!!
I’ve said this enough already but once you’ve read about Dragonwall, you don’t want to stop!
This is the 3rd instalment in the series. Each book is a different POV and lets us more into the story of the characters. What I like most in this series is that none of the characters is neglected in the story. Each have an important part to play and they move the story forward. This contribution of every person makes the plot so rich and interesting, and although there is length in the series, reading them is not boring but an immersive experience.
This book also has secrets, a very interesting twist and a pivotal war moment. All I can ask for and more!
♥️VtR adds more of Verath's story and dialogue to the overall story. Plus some added characters. 🔻I'm currently reading the 4th book (yes it's out on Wattpad!). And am loving the chapters the author is putting out so far. 🔻Not only are the chapters intriguing, but the comments as well that follow! I must say, the comments make the book all the more endearing for me for some reason.
Love all of the dragonwall series I can’t wait to have all the hard cover copies! I found these originally on Wattpad and just found Verath the Red was released on there as well but I would love to have all the books as hard back I even have my family in search of Verath the Red in hardback since it’s been saying sold out everywhere. These books have my heart and I will never get tired of reading them!!!
Book three more characters come to the front, more secrets reviled and Claire takes more dangerous adventures. This series has a fabulous made up world to explore with dragons, shifter dragons, sprites ( a fae type of being) and mages are the key players in this series along with a few humans. No vampires or werewolves it's fresh and new. No pages of sex or lust. We have mate bonds that comes with sadness it's a interesting world
i absolutely live for this series and i just know i’ll never get bored of it… literally cannot wait for this series to finish EEK. it’s like i want it to finish because i want the books but i also never want this world to be over!! also i still love Unka - he’s just too cute… even for a smelly gobelin !
I hate long series with two MCs that get boring after 2 or 3 books. But this story is more than one man and woman. There are other stories woven in that converge at different points or will and you can see it coming, just not know how. This makes it intriguing and want-to-stay-with-it elements. So, I’m heading for book 4. I hope the author doesn’t disappoint…
I loved this book! It's fast paced with a lot of new developments. The suspense of the war is building rapidly. I really appreciate how each relationship is built so differently and each set of characters have their own difficulties to overcome. I also enjoy how it follows different groups that I'm sure will band together when the war comes!
This book seemed more cohesive than the second. Her characterizations are great and her people believable, flawed, and real while still being likeable. Less side plots though I still have no idea why we care about mikken the random village guy. I assume Jeanine will play a part in the main quest line next time?
Re-read ✨ The series really gets better and better with each book. I love this one specifically as this was where Talon & Claire finally got together 😭 that Fort Squall fight scene broke me but what came after that was so goood
I'm pleasantly surprised with each new book. I'm thoroughly enjoying talon and Claire's relationship growing. Finally! For the most part I am enjoying learning more about other "side" characters. I enjoy some more than others. But I'm already jumping out the next book.
I am really enjoying this series! The characters, the different POVs, the storyline, all grabs & holds my attention and has me not wanting to put the book down & eagerly downloading the next one so I can see what happens next! Definitely recommend
I love this series! Each book, so far, has intriguing plots, delightful characters and eloquently written love scenes. The story grows stronger with each character's view.
