Fall for You

Rate this book
A fall wedding and the maid of honor determined to save the bride from making the biggest mistake of her life.
If the sexy-as-sin best man would quit being such a tempting distraction.

When it comes to marriage, my motto has always been, just say no. And for good reason. Plenty of them, in fact.

So how the hell did I wind up as the bride’s style consultant—and maid of honor, by the way—in Silicon Valley's biggest wedding of the season?

Underneath my Grumpy Gus mask, I’m just a sucker for a friend in need. But it doesn’t mean I’m going soft. I’m definitely not about to fall for the best man’s tousled, beachy hotness...or those ocean-blue eyes that look right past my prickly exterior to my marshmallow center.

With the bride refusing to see the signs of the groom’s all too familiar shady behavior, it’s up to me to save my friend from making the same mistake I nearly did. Even if it takes some of my trademark tough love.

That means a hard pass on sexy times with the best man. Right?

**Note: Fall for You is Book 2 in the series, A Season’s Detour. It can be read as a standalone, but you might love these 6 ladies so much, you'll want to know each of their stories...and make them your best friends too.

Amazon bestselling author, Hayleigh Sol, believes love conquers all...

Eh, not so much.

In fact, I’ve always been a reluctant lover of romantic-comedies. The overly sappy ones just make my eyes roll; seriously, it’s like a reflex.

So, when I wrote my first book, what else would spill onto the page but a romantic-comedy with a lovably sassy female protagonist who was reluctant to give up her happy single life in exchange for a relationship?

I still write strong (even if they might not know it yet), independent heroines who don’t need a romantic relationship to be complete, and the sexy, sweet book boyfriends they find impossible to resist.

When I’m not writing or reading (my first true love), I’m hanging out with my own irresistible—I definitely tried to resist, let me tell you—book boyfriend turned hubby, who’s a big fan of “sweetie couch time”.

I know, cue the eye roll, right?

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fall For You is a story about a girl who doesn't like commitment and ends up being the maid of honor for one of her close friends. Though she had severe negative thoughts about marriage, she supported her friend, until she starting noting the sketchy behavior of the groom. While Bailey tries to investigate the groom's true nature, she keeps getting distracted by the best man, who may be the one person she might commit to.

I didn't hate this story. It was interesting, and I was looking forward to seeing how Miss I-Hate-Men-Except-For-In-The-Bedroom might change. However, bits and pieces kept throwing me off course and distracting me from the rest of the story.

My first issue was the nicknames. This was one of the scenarios where I don't think the author actually has any siblings. (spoiler alert: I was right) I have yet to see a sibling relationship - mine included - in which the siblings are all, "hey bro", "hey sis", "B, can you do this", "Sure, Dus, I'll be right over," etc. Not only did the nicknames get really cringey (does anybody actually call somebody by their first initial? And calling Dustin [was his name Dustin] by "Dus/Dust" makes it sound like they need to sweep the floors a little bit) but it felt highly unrealistic, and they weren't the only siblings who had that sort of relationship, either.

Sure, I'll occasionally do nice things for my brother, and when he needs help I'm there, but I don't have any nicknames for him. Most of the time, I just yell until he responds. The same goes for my friend and her sisters. I've seen one of them call my friend insults just to get her to bring them some water.

I guess it's... not entirely impossible to have a sibling relationship like the one portrayed in the story, but I can guarantee there is a very, very small percentage to find that sort of relationship. And to have at least two pairs of completely different families with the same dynamic? Slim to nil, I must say. So whenever Bailey talks about/to her brother, I found myself cringing the entire conversation.

Bailey's father left when she was little, right? So why does she still call him "Dad"? You'd think that after spending years and years without him after he walked out and started another family she'd stop calling him "Dad" and use his first name or his last name. Like, call him "Mike" or "Mr. Goldman" or whatever, because Bailey made it very clear she hated him and wanted nothing to do with him. Therefore, her character still willingly acknowledging their familial ties seems strange. Honestly, it would make more sense if she called him "sperm donor" or something. It was mentioned that she used to call him "Daddy", but I still don't think it's a step up.

My second issue was the random scenes meant to send messages to the readers. There was a moment that sent the Bailey against another female to gain the Male lead's attention, but that entire set up of scenes was just to have the "talk" and say that women shouldn't fight each other for some guy who barely pays attention to them, yadda, yadda. It was like that point in the movie Isn't It Romantic with Rebel Wilson where the MC mentions the cliche where two females can't work together without being enemies in the office.

But almost immediately, the issue is resolved, thanks to MC's nice little speech meant to empower, but it comes across as just a filler and I was hoping for... more, if that scene had to be included. It felt like the author was trying to send a message to the readers, but instead of doing it slowly and subtly, thrust a large, flashy, neon sign with the message for a page, page-and-a-half, and then fully removed it from everyone's minds.

Don't include "hidden" messages for only a small amount of the book! It's not worth it and it only comes across as annoying and cliche.

The characters were mostly consistent, although I'd like to note that Bailey's language originally goes along the lines of, "oh, darn" and then becomes full-fledged cursing later on, which made no sense to me. If she's more reserved with her language, then keep that the whole way through. If she's not, then change the beginning.

OH. THE BEGINNING. I was so very confused. The prologue introduces our main character (though we go several pages without even getting her name) and then suddenly jumps into years later where we begin the actual story. However, it was never clear who was speaking and when. I believed the prologue to be in the Main Female's POV, the one who, according to the blurb, was unmarried and planning to stay that way. And the end of the prologue led to the sentence, "... I was pretty sure I was going to marry Aaron Daley." I wasn't sure if he was going to be the male MC or what, but sure, alright, I went with it. The very next page apparently was a weird time-skip, but nobody bothered to warn me. I was confused and lost and I didn't know who was talking until 5 pages into the first chapter. (ebook edition)

The thing is, the blurb never mentioned the Female Lead's name. Therefore, I never knew if the Bailey in the prologue was meant to be the bride or the maid of honor. I didn't know if the Bailey in Chapter 1 was the main character or not.

The longer I think about the book, the angrier I get and the less I like it, which means I should probably read something else before I drop it to 2 stars. Fall For You had an interesting plot and strange characters, but it wasn't that well-written, in my opinion.

Witty and fun summarizes this modern day Romance set in California between 30-somethings Bailey and Garrett. Strong independent and grumpy, Bailey doesn’t need a man to be happy and won’t allow herself to trust or open herself up to heartbreak...again. She’s seen the worst that love has to offer and carries that cynicism. Every male she or her friends meet she considers infidelity suspects with ill intentions. And therein lies the humor, relationship and eventual growth born of incorrect assumptions. Protagonist and antagonist all in one, Bailey is her own worst enemy.
I love the way Hayleigh Sol writes easy to read, fast paced yet not corny or typical romance formulas. Her characters and the way they fall for each other are relatable no matter your age. To quote the author this romance is not a carbon copy of every other cliché trope currently dominating the best sellers list. This book is an original just like the author.
For those who like to read the Amazon sample be prepared, the author likes to do a bit of bait-and-switch starting you off on a prologue where you think this is going to be this couple's journey and then whammo- that didn't work and the reader is with the character many years later down the road wondering what the heck happened there. I'd recommend this book to those who love romance cynics, humor in their love stories and aren't offended by some well-placed expletives.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

I’m already a huge fan of Ms Hayleigh, so I was really looking forward to reading the second book of the series.

It is about Bailey, the talented stylist, who loves to help people look their best for different occasions. She is focused on her career and not looking for love, not even for a short-term relationship because she has solid reasons for such behavior. But, as it usually happens, love finds her itself.

The story of Bailey and Garret starts out in kind of a funny way, and as Bailey mistakes him for a different person it leads to some amusing consequences. I love Bailey’s character: she is tough on the outside, sarcastic, and suspicious of people, however, kind and caring to the people she loves. She is willing to go all the way to protect her friends when she thinks they need it. And I admire her for that.

There are a lot of things I liked about this book (the plot, the characters, writing style). With every new book, the author comes up with gripping stories that spark my interest and keep me intrigued about how it will all play out. And I must say that I greatly enjoyed them all, as well as this book, and didn’t want this new story to end. I kept putting the book off until the desire to know what happens in the end outweighed the desire to keep reading it a bit longer. Bailey and Garret’s love story is truly inspiring and gives us all hope that a broken heart can indeed be mended with time and love.

Thank you for the beautiful love story and looking forward to reading the next one for sure!

This is the 2nd installment in the Season's Detour I've read, and it was just as good as the first! The story revolves around Bailey, who has been chosen as bridesmaid and assistant in organizing her friend's wedding. A curveball is thrown when she falls for a hunk who happens to be the brother of the groom. The problem is, Bailey has been hurt and betrayed by the men in her life. Getting over her trust issues is where the heart of the story lies.
The writing was great, Hayleigh Sol's easy style and fast pace always keep the pages turning quickly. There is never a dull moment. The dialogue is great, although sometimes Bailey's internal dialogue breaks up the flow of the conversations, her witty mental remarks were hilarious.
The characters were well-created, you can tell the author has really fleshed out everyone's life and personalities, which gives an extra layer of depth to the story.
As with the first book, the obstacle for the main character is an internal one. For Maya in Summer Flame, it was her passivity. For Bailey, it is her trust issue. How these characters grow throughout the novels in order to overcome their obstacles in order to find love makes these stories a cut above your average romance.
Summer Flame was, like summertime, more of a fun, holiday outing. Fall for You takes place after the summer fun ends. The holidays are over and the temperature has dropped. How the themes of these books match the season is brilliant. I can't wait to see how the winter novel captures the love and spirit of the season!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

How do you overcome heartache? Especially when it was traumatizing and even life-changing?

In Fall for You by Hayleigh Sol, Bailey has built a fortress made of steel around her heart. While kind and loyal to her friends, she follows her rulebook on dating to a T and distances herself from any guy after a few dates.

When one of her clients and close friend Tracie decides to tie the knot and asks her to be her maid of honor, Bailey's dedication to remain single forever might be in jeopardy.

The culprit set on stealing her heart is Tracie's brother Garrett. After a funny case of mistaken identity, he and Bailey start to become close, but will he ever get closer than arm's length?

This book is great. It is wholesome, and the characters are adorable. I sometimes found Bailey's lack of trust in relationships to be frustrating, but there is a point to it. Garrett is incredibly sweet and charming. How can you resist a good-looking guy who can cook and puts his family first? I love their banter and how efficiently they become at ease with each other.

If you're looking for light, enjoyable read, I would definitely recommend this one as a good addition to your TBR.

My first reverse grump and it did not disappoint!

This is the second book in Hayleigh Sol’s A Season’s Detour series and it did not disappoint. I loved the first book, Summer Flame (rated 5 stars by me) and the premise of 5 lifelong girlfriends, so naturally I was thrilled to read the next one in the series! In this story the characters are authentic with genuine life circumstances and multidimensional. The writing style of the author is top notch, so easy to read but written with such originality.

Bailey is a fashion consultant, and anti-marriage grump whose personality is somewhat over analytical and judgmental at times. Her cynical view on marriage and relationships make her an unlikely candidate as maid of honor, but when a good friend asks you, naturally you can’t say no. Until she finds herself in unusual territory when she meets a guy that she can actually stand longer than three dates. Though she’s extremely guarded, the reader sees sprouts of personal growth along the way but for some reason or another Bailey always slides back down the hill of progress.

The story line is clever and I had several moments of ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming.’ Which is always refreshing in a book, especially since I find most story lines predictable. The end leaves you satisfied but wanting more, which is so Hayleigh Sol.

This is the second book in the series and second I have read so far, but I wasn't as enamored by it as the first. Being married with kids myself, I found Bailey's hardcore philosophy of not wanting to tie herself down and those who do are bowing down to social norms a little off-putting. It was nice to see her start to grow from it when she realized a lot of what she thought and her actions were in the wrong. Everyone is entitled to how they want to control their lives, but I found her's to be very over the top from unfortunate past experiences that had jaded her views so. I felt bad for Garrett who had to deal with her snarky remarks and cold behavior more often than he should have and thought it was strong of him to stick by her even when she was being her worst. The ending I was a little shocked to find that it didn't take much to forgive her transgressions and outrageous accusations that she cast without a sliver of evidence. I'm all for a happy ending though and was glad that things had a way of righting themselves and for many people to move forward. I'm really hoping that Bailey will continue to see the good in people and not just the potential bad. I would totally continue to read the series and find out how her and her friends continue throughout the series. The book was overall written well, with a good amount of detail and fine as a stand-alone read.

A sweet and spicy must read—right in time for Fall!

Honestly, this novel is the best installment in the Seasons Detour series yet (although it could be read as a standalone). From the jump, I was hooked. As the story continues, not only did I love Bailey more and more (trying to protect her friend and her own heart, while running her own successful company—you go girl!) but I found myself laughing out loud, shaking my fist in anger over her past, and all the while simultaneously swooning over sweet and spicy Garrett. Speaking of which, the first couple chapters threw me through a loop—in the best way! Fall For You not only draws you in, but keeps you invested and interested. For any reader wanting to read a book with all the feels, and a strong woman protagonist, please do yourself a favor and grab Fall For You. I can’t wait for the next in the series, as I’m sure I won’t be able to put it down either.

received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.

It was good. Bailey does not trust men. Her father cheated on her mother and then ghosted from the family. Bailey was a daddy’s girl and when he left he left a big whole. Bailey’s high school and college sweetheart, Aaron, cheated on her. They had an on and off relationship. This all made her mistrustful of men. Then she meets Garrett and they start to flirt but when Garrett greets Bailey’s friend, Tracie and she calls him Noah (which is Tracie’s fiancée name) – Bailey thinks Noah is cheating on Tracie. Tracie eventually lets Bailey know that Garrett is her brother. Garrett has a huge mountain of mistrust and hurt to climb if he wants a relationship with Bailey. It is hard for Bailey to let go of the walls she has built around her heart.

You will like Bailey even with her faults. You will like Garrett. He is an easy-going guy. He is very patient with her.

This is book 2 in Sol's Seasons Detour series. In this read we have Bailey and Garrett 's story. Bailey has built some inpenitatable walls to guard her heart and believes that all men are cheaters. But when a close friend who never believed in marriage decides to tie the knot, Bailey finds her life turned topsy turvy and with new information that comes to light, and the support of life long friends Bailey re evaluates all she thinks she believes.

Sol delivers a well written love scrooge romance. With amazing characters, both main and secondary and a fun storyline that flows smoothly and is both thought provoking and lol fun. This read should not be missed. A story of self improvement. friendship and love, this is a beautiful read.

This is the second book in the A Season's Detour Series and can be read as a standalone but I think you will benefit from reading the first book as they have interconnecting characters. Bailey is her best friends bridesmaid and falls for Garrett the brother of the groom. Bailey is protective of her friend and has concerns about the groom being a shady characters. The book is overflowing with drama and suspense. The characters are well developed and the story is entertaining. I read an advance copy compliments of Book Sirens and also purchased a copy. It was a long read, I had to take breaks in between, it didn't convince me enough to continue reading in one sitting. I was a bit confused in the beginning when it came to introducing the plot- I haven't read book 1, but you can read it as standalone, but it's nice to know the characters.

Story was delivered as promised- sweet and steamy. Overall the plot was good, I like grumpy/sunshine story and it made me laugh and smile most of the book.
I liked romance aspect between characters, it was feel good romance, perfect for cozy autumn nights.

Now the second volume of this series has already been published. I must confess that unfortunately I somehow missed the first volume. I still dared to jump right into the second one, since I saw it "hot off the press" on KU. I didn't regret it: there's no problem reading this one as a standalone. Once again, I found what I love so much about Hayleigh's writing style: she writes funny, fluid, and very current. You feel like you have your finger on the pulse with her stories. I like the intelligent wit in the story and the likable Bailey. A must-read for all lovers of romantic feel-good stories!

Such a good story! Bailey has been through so much but it really clouded her vision. All the sabotage was heart wrenching but that just made Garret even better for sticking it out and pushing through her hard walls. Their ending was sweet (though maybe a little incomplete since they just got back together and we don't see any epilogue of them a few months or more down the road- but in this case, I didn't feel like that was needed, it was obvious the love is there and they're two great people).

The description of a sweet, steamy romantic comedy is spot on! This story delivers it all. As a married woman the main character's adamant attitude that marriage is a terrible trap often is a turn off for me, but the story and depth of all of the characters made it all worth it. I loved all the twists and comedic misunderstandings as Bailey learns that not all men are cheaters and women are not all perfect either. Fun romantic comedy. Bailey was crushed years ago by an ex, can she ever get over the pain and heartbreak that makes her scorn relationships and marriage?? Then her friend asks her to be maid of honor, with a hot best man to boot. Bailey’s past gets in the way of trust and causes her to make crazy accusations. Her friends are great and true to life! Love the interactions, human feelings and inner growth as the story progresses. Super quick read, ready for the next one!!

Learning to Trust

A sweet romance story focused on teaching the main character, Bailey, how to trust men again after multiple heartbreaks turned her bitter, constantly expecting the worst of the men around her. As she helps her friend prepare for her wedding she develops a "relationship" with the brother of the bride but her distrust of men and fear of being hurt ends up hurting those around her. Is she too far gone to change? Will she be able to save her relationships with her friends? Will she ever be able to open her heart to allow herself to be loved?

I'm not sure I loved the main character of this book. I struggled a little bit with engaging with her, though I can appreciate the intent of the author to show the evolution of the character. Garrett's character almost made up for that though.

An interesting look into how our early experiences can shape our lives as adults.

The book was well written and for the most part, well edited. Thank you for the opportunity to review this ARC.

Super cute story

Totally solid writing. I was pulled into the story from the start. I liked the themes that were tackled by the FMC in regards to trust. The MMC was a total CRH and I really liked Garett. He was a total keeper.

The friends intervention was sweet.

But for me it fell flat cause it lacked the steam. I like reading the spicy parts.

This book is a clean steam story if you’re into that. I really enjoyed it overall.

I've opted to DNF this book, due to the fact that I don't think the writing is for me, and I'd rather DNF than continue when it's not my style and give it a poor rating.

I had difficulty following along with the writing pretty consistently, which kept me from sinking into the text and really envisioning the story. Just because the writing was distracting for me shouldn't keep someone else from trying this author out, however! One never knows who they'll resonate with! 😃

Grumpy FMC Bailey has been burned in past relationships, so when her best friend announces her wedding, she struggles to be happy for her.

Upon meeting Garret, the bride’s brother, Bailey is challenged with her past. Can she warm up to this “too good to be true” guy? Will she ever be happy like her best friend?

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others
