My rules for survival: Never trust a demon or make a deal with one. But trapped in the demon realm, I have no choice but to break both rules if I want to escape.
What’s waiting for me on the other side? A bloodthirsty god who wants to kill me—did I mention it’s my mother? An unforgiving fae who doesn’t care that we’re related and wants me gone, at any cost. And I have a debt to repay to the city’s most notorious vampire, who I gave the finger to—literally—during our last encounter. But I’m sure all is forgiven. Right?
McKenzie Hunter is the author of urban fantasy, dark fantasy, and paranormal romance books. She discovered early that new adventures were just a page-turn away; all she had to do was read a book. She’s had her share of escapades from hanging out with vamps, joining the chaos of shifter packs, creating spells with witches, and avoiding deals with the fae.
When she isn't working on her next book, she’s reading, binge-watching TV, or disappearing into her own world during nature walks (probably on the lookout for magical beings—or maybe not).

The couple got together and now I realise I don’t give a shit about the plot. What am I here for then? The slowburn has burnt out and I am out of interest lol
Ah WOW this was an emotional one. I love Erin so much but like with all Mckenzie’s books there is never just the MC!! Every single character in some way steals more of my heart with every book… or I hate a little more as the case may be.. got to love a baddy’s lol. Another fast pasted, action packed, tastefully sexy, amazingly written story that drew me in from the first page and literally spat my out at the end.. I NEED MORE!!! With Erin and the gang I ALWAYS need more. A must read series.
This book held me spellbound. Action packed. Mephisto and Erin’s love is so personal and surreal it defies all logic. Asher has his hands full with Evelyn. Fabian needs muzzling and if he thinks Erin won’t get her revenge he has another thing coming. His days are now numbered. Nolan…not sure if he knew what the cost would be or which side of the fence he is now on. I love this series and cannot wait for the next book. Erin well on her way to dealing misery and I’m getting popcorn and ready to watch the show!! Wave bye bye Elizabeth snd Fabian! A must read book and series!
Fantastic read, another cliffhanger end. Love our heroine Erin who has the most complicated life ever. Can't wait for No.6 in this series. Highly recommend
I don’t know why I put off reading this, but I definitely need to know what happens next. One problem is solved and a new one crops up. I can’t wait to read the next book.
This was so good, I couldn't stop reading. There was so much going on in this book and it all worked together to create a great read. I love how Erin had so much on her plate and she had to keep forging ahead and making important decisions. The author did a great job of handling how these decisions influenced Erin's relationships with the people around her, and how she had to make some personal sacrifices to be able to keep going and making the choices she made.
Being dragged kicking and screaming to the demon realm can really change a person’s perspective on life
This is the fifth installment of McKenzie Hunter’s Raven Cursed series. It’s an Urban Fantasy set in modern day USA with some crossover into the demon realm. There is some romance but it’s not the main focus of the story. There are some mild scenes of a sexual nature between contenting adults.
This series is my favourite of all the work McKenzie Hunter has published so far. The character development is outstanding. The world building and magic systems are well thought through. These are long, action-packed books with believable relationships and complex story arcs.
Being dragged kicking and screaming to the demon realm and then being forced into a blood-oath with an untrustworthy demon can really change a person’s perspective on life. Erin is no slouch but this experience really lights a fire under her. There are too many people either trying to kill her or make her life a misery and it’s time they all went. If she wants to live a peaceful life, she needs to improve her already impressive magical repertoire and in order to do that, she has to find out how her elven magic works. No mean feat when the elves are nowhere to be found.
This book started out with a bang and ended on a much bigger one. There were unexpected twists and there may also have been an audible gasp and mutterings of ‘oh my god!’ from me when I got to the end. Every book is better than the last so far and now, because I raced through this one so quickly, I have to attempt to wait patiently for the next one.
The reading order for this series so far is:
Book 1 Fireborne Book 2 Silverfall Book 3 Nightsoul Book 4 Shadowmark Book 5 Hellcrossed
As always, the story arc gets ever more complex and challenging. So much to contend with. Yikes!! I love this series - great characters and story arc. Excellent writing!!
Up until this point, the characters seem a little flat to me. And I don't get why everyone's hating on Erin. She never forced anyone to make any decision. They act like they're not consenting adults. Why tf would any of it be her fault? I think the story focuses more on the characters that hate her (for NO good reason), instead of the people who actually like her, and it's bothersome :C
As usual, McKenzie Hunter has left me missing Erin, Mephisto, Asher, Miss Harp, and all the other characters I love so much even though I just finished Hellcrossed. I look forward to book 6!
It’s getting a little old seeing how helpless and weak Erin is compared to everyone else. She never finds a fix herself, always having to rely on others coming to the rescue. In this book it’s Wendy, Nolan showing up, then Fabian. All she can be is reactive and every situation seems to leave her in another bad situation or worse off. She’s supposedly an elf demi-goddess who can fight, but we rarely see that. I will keep reading because I do want to know how this ends, but it’s not an especially enjoyable world to spend time in.
When I read about female heroes, I want them to win. I want them to struggle but be doing better. With this series, I am at a point where I would be with the Walking Dead or Breaking Bad. There is no hope and everything is just getting worse. I don't know if I can read the next one at this point with the angst.
It's 3 stars because the writing is compelling, and the characters are very alive. It's easy to get invested and that's the sign of a great writer. But yeah, at some point a glimmer of hope has to appear.
This series is so great!!! The character development is great! I swear I feel like I know them irl 😂I’m hooked!!! Wish it were a show! I can’t wait until June!
Overall: I LOVED this series and couldn’t put it down. The story arc is complex in a way that kept me engaged and appreciating the author’s writing. The story is nonstop and the action keeps coming at you . The sub plots in-between the main story arc are well thought out and detailed. The banter is witty, funny, and entertaining. There are some spicy moments but it’s not over done. I love a super steamy romantic fantasy these books didn’t get steamy until the end. That being said while having some steam these books were not a super smutty romantic fantasy BUT…the story and writing were so good that it didn’t matter and was well worth the read. It still has all the things I want in a romance while not sacrificing the story to give it to me. The world has a mix of so many of the magical beings you want in a fantasy book. I couldn’t put it down and wanted to cry when I got to the end of book 5 and couldn’t go on to book 6. But I did pre-order it and I did pick another series by Mckenzie Hunter to read next because I liked this series and the way it was written so much.
Likes: - I liked the characters. The Characters are steeped in mystery for a lot of the story. Yet I was still drawn to a lot of the characters by actions without the mystery being revealed. I found the characters were complex and the personalities were well built. -The author challenged my vocabulary and I left each book feeling smarter because of it ! But what can I say I’m a word nerd. Lol -Once the steamy tension gets started it’s pulled so tight you can feel it. -I always love a strong female lead which you get from this book. However our lead while strong is still very flawed which makes her feel more real to me. -The complexity of the story! Sometimes I need an easy read sometimes a complicated one. This book manages to be complex while being easy to read. That’s not an easy thing to do. The authors writing in my opinion is very fluid and easy to navigate while keeping the complexity of the story the entire time. -Plot within a plot. Sometimes big book series’s can get dragged out and cause me to lose interest. While the main story arc is dragged out and I was wanting that big reveal the author managed to keep all the sub plots so entertaining that I enjoyed the ride while the drag of the main story was happening . This is another thing that I don’t personally find often in a-lot of books.
Dislikes: (Not really dislikes in this case) -Not a dis like but more something that I thought I should point out to potential readers. The main story arc does seem to take a long time to get through HOWEVER…. Between the witty banter and well written sub plots the author kept me entertained so much I found myself not minding it. -Also NOT A Dislike but more of a personal preference. I like a little more steam in my books but that does not at all take away from this series for me. *** SO not really true dislikes just some things to point out and personal preferences.
Oh. My. Gosh. At this moment, I have no words. That ending.....
The problem, I've discovered, with reading so many books is that it is easy for a good or even great series to get lost in the shuffle as you are awaiting the next book to be released. When you are in the middle of a series and reading each book one after the other, you are invested and immersed in that world. Then, you leave that world and go off and invariably, get invested in another world. I have had that happen so many times and I try, I really do, to keep track of the series that I want to get back to, but it doesn't always happen.
It wasn't until someone liked a review that I wrote about the series and I went back to see it that I realized that I never finished the series and that there was a new book out. The problem was that it had been a long time since being in that particular world and it took me a fairly long time to remember the specifics - but that's a me problem. Little by little things began coming back and I started remembering who was who and what was going on. I even reread the ending of the prior book to understand exactly "how" Erin ended up being stranded in a hell dimension.
But....once I got started ......things got interesting right away and I immediately began to remember why I fell in love with this series. This series is full of rich characters and a very unique world. We have the normal Supes - Shifters, Vampires, Mages and then we have the not so normal....Elves, The Huntsman, Demigoddesses, and much more.
The other thing that brought me back is that this series is narrated by Khristine Hvam - who also narrates the Jane Yellowrock series - and she is a pretty fantastic narrator. It is EASY to slip right back into the world and just become immersed in the events that are happening.
I was just getting back to the whole Mephisto / Erin thing when..... what do you know? Things get blown up AGAIN!! (figuratively, not literally). This book ends with a MASSIVE cliffhanger that makes me grit my teeth because now it is back to the waiting game.
This time, I actually looked it up and there are going to be 7 books in this series. This is the 5th, the 6th comes out in November 2022 (it is now August 2022) and then I have no idea about the series finale.
All I can say now is that I HATE waiting...but as a reader...what else is new? This time though, I'm going to put a reminder in my calendar for November.
This latest installment in the Raven Cursed series was absolutely amazing! It's full of action, betrayal, twists and turns, of romance, magic and heart breaking emotion! This is definitely one of my favourites series and every book just gets better and better!
This one starts off with our MC Erin in the demon realm, tricked by her aunt, or more like punished. There's no escape, but Erin has to find a way out. Her magic won't do it for her, so what else can she do, but make a deal with a demon! Not something she ever wanted to do, but needs must!
Once back home, her list of situations and people to deal with seems to be increasing and Erin is constantly pulled here, there and everywhere! She has a vampire on her back trying to get her to fulfill an earlier deal; her mother wants her dead, as does her aunt; her father is nowhere to be found and Erin needs to find him to help her out with something that may be the key to solving at least one of her problems. The Huntsmen, all except Mephisto anyway, still blame her for their imprisonment on Earth. She needs to find an elf to help her with her magic, so she can understand and use it better in this constant war raging around her! Asher was the least of her worries for once - I have always had a soft spot for him and really felt for him when he wasn't the one she chose to be with!
At times, luck was on her side and she managed to solve at least one problem, but as soon as that was over, yet another presented itself! Erin is a strong, feisty woman and those around her will soon realise she's not one to be easily pushed around. She is getting close to her limit now and only time will tell what she will do next!
The ending was completely heart wrenching! Like Cory, I knew something was off about Fabian, but I didn't expect the choice he gave her at the end!
I highly recommend this series and cannot wait for the next installment to come out later on this year!
Of all the books in the series so far, this one most definitively shows Erin at her most vulnerable, at her weakest--in that she's up to her eyeballs in debts owed, desperate in ways she hasn't been before now, and with very limited options in how to fix things. I'll admit, I kind of liked seeing her at her lowest, and weaker than she's previously been even though she has her magic unlocked. Seeing her like that, gives the reader a chance to see her without her mask, without her bravado, and instead a more real version of her shown. I also liked that we're introduced to more characters that appear benevolent, but whose motives aren't in brilliant shades of black and white, but rather they reside in the subtler shades of gray. And I'm not going to lie, Mephisto's response at the end, surprised me more than maybe it should've. I've shipped Erin and Mephisto from the beginning, and his actions throughout the series does show how much he cares for, and his willing to fight for her, but I figured given the choice, he'd go without a fight... But his words at the end suggest their relationship was more than even I gave it credit for. That ending though, all I'm going to say is truly being on Erin's bad side isn't good for anyone's health. I'm definitely curious how the next book is going to play out now!
It seems everyone is dictating Erin's life now. Especially Landon with his absurd way he expects her to repay her debt. I knew his fascination with Erin was going to come back to bite her. Plus she should have made Landon tell her what he wanted from her before agreeing to anything. Asher flexes his overprotective muscle again after Erin is hurt. Erin gets her wish when Nolan takes her to the elves he has been staying with. She is taught a lot. However, it stops when it is revealed that they know of a way to cut off Malific's magic & imprison her. Fabian her instructor sticks up a bargain to get Malific imprisoned. There is a catch though. Erin has to get Malific to follow her inside and she will lose her magic too. Only if Erin is able to kill her will her magic return. In exchange Fabian will get Erin out of the demon contract. You won't believe how! Plus Erin has to agree not to kill Elizabeth or get revenge on her. And lastly Erin wants the Leas so the Huntsmen can go back to the Veil. You notice I mentioned a betrayal in the title. You won't see it till the end of the book. All I can say is I can't wait for the next book!
Dang!!!! Wowza I have a book hangover!!!! I NEED MORE!!!
Litterally don't know where to start the tension and high stakes light the pages on fire 🔥.
I could feel the heat as I devoured this amazing book. Friends and allies at each others throats. Those who appear to be allies knife those they pretend to help in the back and Erin and Mephisto mmmmmmm perfection!
This book has it all. The love, the hate, the tension and through it all Erin tries to navigate through it as every turn brings new challenges and despair. Will Elizabeth pay for the things she has done? Will Fabian get what he deserves. Will Nolen finally pick a side???
Hellcrossed spikes the adrenaline with the multiple challenges Erin faces with her magic. Everyone wants a piece of her and Mephisto is first in line and what a first he is!! Now she's targeted to be a baby-mama for the vampires?!! A demon has her by her ladyballs and she's an elf-attractant ... Lol! What they all seem to have in common is a love for the Raven even if some are a bit misplaced. She doesn't just let anyone park in her lady garage! Bring on Ironclad, because I think we're all going to see Erin's claws come out to save her family, right the wrongs, and get her man.
I am really enjoying this series. Erin was without her magic for all of her life. She was an addict for magic and sometimes lost control when trying to steal magic from others. The problem is she left the "donor" close to death when she stole it. If she didn't return it in time, the victim died. She had no idea what she was or why she didn't have magic. Finding out was almost as bad as not having it. She learned her mother was a god, a violent, malicious, murderous god. She hated Erin and wanted her dead. I don't want to give too much away because it was fun going from book to book and learning more about Erin in each book.
Picking up immediately from the end of the last book, Erin finds herself trapped and the only way she can get out of it is to make a deal with the devil. Well, technically a demon. That seems to be a bit of a theme in this non stop page turner, with several unfavourable deals made out of necessity. The plot flows brilliantly and made it very difficult to put it down. And the author has delivered her most diabolical cliffhanger yet, just to drive us all to the brink of madness. 😂 Highly recommend you start this series if you haven't already.
So much has happened to get Erin to where she is now. I love her growth but sometimes I wish she didn’t think she was a team of #1 but I guess that’s what you do when you worry about your friends and know who you’re up against. I am really loving the added level of spice that McKenzie dared to take on. I love that I’m finally getting the sense that Mephisto is more in than Erin thinks…and I’m here for it. Before, I was probably where Erin still is and still pondering what he would do but now it seems like his direction is clearer and more intense. #TeamMephisto
This book is the best of the series so far which has been slow to build up some intensity, but this book has breathed some life into the storyline. Erin never had an easy life there are always complications a Mother who wants her dead, owing a debt to a Master Vampire who wishes to have children by her, a deal with a demon and an aunt who hates her. Finally meeting with Elves a leader that seems to wish to help but in the end betrays her what is next for her we will have to wait for the next book to find out.
I love this series and this installment certainly does not disappoint. There's plenty of family drama and worries. Erin was left on the demon plane and struggles to return home. She has plenty of pay back to dish out and must keep her family safe from her many enemies. Erin also has difficulty trusting and allowing people into her life in less than a superficial way. I admit I have always thought Asher would be a good match for her but Mephisto gets and accepts her. The ending left me gasping and yet cheering for vengeance.
Nothing passes me off more than saying there X number of books in a series when there aren't. A possible book arriving next year is not part of the series, it doesn't exist. Not only will I not know what happens in that non existent book, I will very likely avoid this author in future. By next week I will have read 30 other books and completely forgotten I ever read the series up to this point.
If you are extraordinarily slow in your reading and waiting until a possible release date of next February, it's a mostly enjoyable series.
The series started off great, but with each book Erin becomes a bigger bleeding heart. I get characters have arcs, but you don’t go from sociopath to caring about EVERYONE. You could argue she had sociopath tendencies when she was blocked from her magic, and I’d go with it, but then I don’t really care for the character she is now. And she wants to be equals in her relationship with Mephisto? What exactly do you bring besides problems, arguments, and sex? Nothing, the answer to that is nothing.
WOW!! I love this series so far, twists and turns everywhere. I love Erin, she has been through so much! And come so far, her magic 🪄 and how quick she is mastering what she needs to, to get what she needs done! Some shady characters which I personally have not made my mind up about, but looking forward to getting to know more about them along the way! Another fantastic book in this series…. Looking forward to the next!!!
From start to finish the action never stops! I love how much I get pulled into Erin and can feel everything she's going through . Seeing the love between them blossom and all that's thrown her way , she's such a strong character yet we get to feel so much of her vulnerable side . An amazing read and I can't wait to see how her story ends , even if I don't want it to 😊
