When things go wrong in the Old West, you can neither run nor hide.
Ninovan has only one desire: to survive. Her loved ones are dead and her home is in ashes. But she must live in order to carry on the stories of those who have fallen at the hands of the frontier solders.
And Ninovan learns that in order to survive, she must make a terrifying choice: become an Indian mail order bride.
A pregnant Indian mail order bride, to be exact.
Todd, a blacksmith residing in the small mountain town in Colorado, lost his wife in childbirth and though he wants to remarry, he never wants to have children.
When Todd takes Ninovan in as his mail order bride, Ninovan is unsure if she can live with him, or if she can live without him. And Todd is crushed when he realizes Ninovan is pregnant with her late husband’s child.
In a world that threatens to pull them apart, Ninovan and Todd must either learn to open their hearts to one another, or risk losing what they have now.
Note: Each book in the Frontier Women series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.
Florence Linnington stumbled upon writing historical romance at a young age, and has never looked back. What drives her to keep going at her writings are simple: joy and peace.
Florence's novels strive to bring characters to life, be they having a strong personality or an unassuming nature — it is this mix of disposition that makes novels a pleasant read.
New to discovering my mail order bride books?
You can start reading any of my books in any series — that's right, any one of them as each story is a standalone read even if they are in a series. You will not get lost; you can still immerse yourself in the story 'universe'!
Ninovan is an indian woman who had been living with her peaceful tribe when soldiers attacked, killing everyone they could: men, women, children, & infants. They claimed that the tribe had been raiding in the nearby town of Red Canyon, but Ninovan knew that there were no raids. It was simply an excuse for the soldiers to kill everyone in the tribe. But somehow, she had escaped & found help from a kind woman.
Knowing that Ninovan dare not remain in Red Canyon, and that she will not be safe anywhere else she goes without the protection of a legal marriage to a settler, Ninovan is eventually convinced that her only option is to be married to Todd, the blacksmith in the nearby town of Stillwater.
Everything seems to be going well enough until Ninovan realizes that she is pregnant with her first husband's child, and it has by then become obvious to her that Todd does not wish to be a father or even to be around children. And that is where things truly get problematic for the two of them.
I feel this was one of Ms. Linnington's more interesting books. Not only does it encompass two stranger's agreeing to marry, sight unseen, but it deals with the racial hatred that Ninovan must face on a daily basis, and that Todd must come face to face for the first time with her. And that is just where the story begins, for there is far more to this tale than we see in most mail order bride books.
I enjoyed reading this story and seeing how the characters come to terms with and deal with the variety of issues they had to face. If you enjoy a good mail order bride story that has a bit more to it than most do, and if you've enjoyed any of Ms. Linnington's other books, then you should give this one a try. I don't think you'll regret it.
Ninovan’s entire tribe was decimated by soldiers for no reason. She is traveling in a snowstorm to get away from them as the sole survivor. A woman helps her and takes her to Stillwater to marry a stranger. Todd is the town’s blacksmith and has agreed to marry Ninovan. He finds her attractive, honest and wonderful. She runs afoul of a couple of judgmental people in town. She decides to run away when she discovers she is pregnant. Sarah and her make it to Red Canyon and she is arrested on false charges. Todd goes to rescue her and ends up in there himself. Now, the people of Stillwater will try to pull a coup of their own to help rescue Todd. Will they be successful? This story gives the reader a taste of how things really were back in the day for Indians.
I have read a few books by Florence Linnington but this is a Favorite.
A Lonesome man agrees to marry an Indian. She is the soul survivor of the army killing her tribe, including, women, children and her husband. The only way to protect her from the soldiers is marriage. But, when he looks on this stranger, his bride he feels something, she is Beautiful. She is unsure of this man, but he is kind and thoughtful. They both have secrets and this situation is very difficult in a town that is prejudice toward Indians, and that's not the only problem.
The Pregnant Indian Bride was historically accurate without revealing the actual massacre that happened along The Trail of Tears and death. The reference to Colorado and the weather seemed accurate. All else in the book was written with such grit and determination. A must read for those who love historical classics with historical romance on the frontier of young and old traveled west for a better life.
I loved this poignant tale of an young Indian maid who has all her family and clansmen by a horrendous attack by the cavalry. She find a woman who helps find a way to Stillwater and a life as a mail-order bride. I couldn't put it down until the last page was turned. I hope to find more of these stories by this new-to-me author Florence Linnington.
The bride Ninovan has been rescued from Solders try to kill all the Native Americans in her tribe. To keep her safe the preacher and his wife had her meet the town Blacksmith with a view to marriage. Todd when told her story decided to marry her to keep her safe. Read and enjoy this story. I did!!!!!’n😄
You never know who will come into your world, kindness from others. The strength we pull from our core to get us to where we need to be. Beautiful and well written story of great determination to protect loved ones.
This was a very well written story! And I really enjoyed reading it,your use of your characters was very interesting given everything this couple had to face!
Loved the historical pull of telling the correct stories of REALLY happened to so many Native Americans. And loved the way prejudice and compassion wove in and out throughout the entire story, with love winning out!
This was a very intriguing story! It was very well written written. The love between Todd and and his bride had many troubling aspects but true love prevailed.
