Who knew when my dead best friend came back as a ghost, I'd encounter witches, demons, angel's and my true love?
Ray is happy writing eulogies and speeches for other people, but the day comes when he has to write one for his best friend, Duncan.
What Ray isn't expecting is the fallout from the reading of the eulogy. He suddenly finds himself being pulled into a world full of witches, demons and angels. But with the help of his new spirit guide—Duncan, he has a way to navigate these troubling times.
If that's not enough Ray has just met the man of his dreams. Now all he has to do is stay alive to have his happily ever after. Easy right?
This story was cute and engaging but the lack of effective editing put a damper on my enjoyment. There were also some formatting issues that made following dialogue difficult at times. If you can move past those issues, I found the story to be upbeat and endearing.
A formidable family is formed here because Ray wrote a Eulogy for his best friends Duncan who died in his care. Don't despair Duncan isn't going anywhere and why would he when he can just stalk and annoy his best friend. Both find their dream men and fall in love. Duncan finds Wyn and with Wyn comes his magical abilities and an extremely large powerful and perfect family. Ray is an amazing friend and helps Wyn make his dream come true and expanding is magical shop. Ray meets Phil who is an amazing baker and they meet at the local coffee shop. Phil comes with heartbreak and confusion over his new path he's on. Ray comes alone and make sure his dreams of owning a pastry shop come true. Ray has space in his building for Phil's pastry chop, so why combine the two shops? It works out great. But there is a down side to all this happiness, Duncan's father! He wants to kill Ray. He has a hand in Black magic and aligned himself to a demon. Duncan also finds out he has a half brother who has been living by himself since his Mother died at 15, Graham. Everyone in everyone's family adopt him and will make sure he is never alone again. Evil Creepy father will not end his quest to kill and destroy Ray and anyone in his way. So a thousand protection necklaces are made for Ray, Duncan, Graham and Phil, at the end the of the book they all look like Mr.T.... A very good story that just keeps moving and not filled with sex as a filler for a real story. You can feel their love without the details that go on behind closed doors.
Ray and Duncan are BFF'S, not even death can tear them apart. At Duncan's funeral, Ray has the vicar read a quite revealing eulogy to the attendees. Unbeknownst to Ray, this would change his life forever. Duncan decided to stick around and haunt his favorite person. When they go to seek some answers from a local witch, they learn that there is an evil person that wants to harm Ray. And from there this amazing story takes off. We meet some more witches, more ghosts, a few angels, a baker, and a family member we didn't know existed. This was so much fun to read that I couldn't put it down. It has a little bit of everything: the banter, the sweetness, the heart, and a brewing battle.
I really thoroughly enjoyed this book a good read and a slightly different take from this authors normal roadmap which I personally enjoyed it was lighthearted but also I found an intriguing storyline and the hours just slipped by whilst I read this book which is a sure sign it captivated me I would recommend it and I hope this author can turn this into a series there are certainly possibilities there
What a fun read this is. I loved the dynamics between the characters and the witty banter kept me laughing. This is an original take on good vs evil that flowed along seamlessly with a great cast of main and secondary characters, wonderful world building and an engaging plot. Don’t expect much in the way of heat as any such scenes are fade to black but don’t let that deter you from a great read.
The storyline is unusual and was a bit of fun, providing you can manage the multiple grammatical errors which are scattered throughout the book. (Nobody edits, nobody cares anymore) Decent character development and good supporting cast. Ends on a positive note.
Taking a chance on a new author to read is always a little hard. This book was so much fun to read. Heartbreaking yet beautiful. Hopeful and loving. It will make you laugh and cry and sometimes at the same time. Ray, Duncan, Wyn and Phil are people that will live in my heart for a very long time. Brilliant book.
This was such a great story. I absolutely loved the characters and the plot was super interesting. It had a really good flow to it and I found it nearly impossible to out down. This is definitely going to be a one click author for me now. I can't wait to see what's next for this authur!
This is the story I didn't know I wanted to read. Witches, ghosts, angels, a demon, adopted family and love. Lots and lots of love. 5 very enthusiastic stars.
If I had one wish, my dirty mind might have wanted a few more naughty details. But, I do have a good imagination, so it wasn't a deal breaker.
Of all of E. Brooms books, this is now my new favourite. The way it's written, the humour, the suspense, the characters are all fantastic. It's a totally feel good book. Perfect for a lazy Sunday. Read this book, you'll not be disappointed.
This is the first book I've read from this author. But it definitely want be the last. Such a great book. If your looking for a story heavy book this is the book for you.
This is my 2nd read from E. Broom and I love both. If you have not read The Vampire and the Librarian you should, now. This one was serious and funny at the same time. Duncan is too fun. I hope there will be more to this story.
The end was charming, sweet and cliche. If they had been het couples I would say this was something written in the fifties. Nothing wrong with that. It was entertaining and fun, low heat and charming HEA.
This was a heart-warming story filled with laugh, love and magic. Honestly, I'm a little jealous its not my life. And all that lovely cake ! <3 Do yourself a favour and give it a read, you won't be disappointed.
This book was a different take on the theme of people who can see and hear ghosts. And you know what I loved it ,it was funny And heart warming and a very enjoyable.Highly recommended.
Lots of typos but the story was good. Needed a good editor to cut out repetitive bits. I wouldn’t mind if these characters became a series. So many options with so many secondary characters.
(FYI, the book “The Haunting of Hatfield Manor” is a sequel of sorts in that one of the MCs is a major player in this book.)
First off, I think this was a draft. The title page says, “My Book” and is attributed to someone else (probably a pen name she intended to use since the copyright is the name on the cover). In two places headers say, “Untitled.” And then there are the gobs of typos and incorrect tense like the author wrote in present tense and converted it to past tense and missed a bunch. The very first sentence is, “I am sitting in the back of the church hoping nobody would notice me.” Yet I got this off of Kindle Unlimited. So if you’re buying it off Amazon or using KU, be forewarned.
While I love the characters and like the world building, although isn’t very original, there are huge problem with almost everything else. An exception is how the author knew that to become a commercial baker, your kitchen has to be certified. The author also tried to meld witchcraft with Christianity, especially in rituals and it was different, and although it didn’t work for me, it was something new. I could have done without the archangels though—not just angels but archangels. They weren’t powerful enough for one thing but getting involved with average mortals/witches/psychics? No.
On to more bad. First of all, it’s sexist. The most powerful mages are men. The women are strong, true, but it’s mostly just in talking to ghosts and being mysterious about people’s futures. When it comes to doing magic, it’s the men.
Then there’s the redundant writing. For example, in the space of five sentences, the phrase “make for dinner tonight” appeared three times.
Things come too easily. Things keep working out. And when someone asks a really good question that would explain how something supernatural happened, the reply would be, “I don’t know, it just was.”
All problems except the main antagonist and their actions is solved immediately and easily. Money is never an issue. Good things they’re doing happen overnight, sometimes even in the space of a few minutes. There just really isn’t any conflict. The antagonist‘s actions are few and far between. That makes it totally boring.
Everyone is wonderful and perfect and nice and gets along. They all laugh at the same things and agree with everything everyone else says. Everyone is always laughing at something someone says and they either shoot something back, which everyone laughs at, or they pretend to be hurt and then laugh. Stop explaining! And the things weren’t even very funny.
I’d die if boredom if that was my world.
A huge group of people, who have enough money to buy houses, are able to come and move to their city and immediately help with everything. They are all volunteering to be hired on in various capacities. Don’t any of them work somewhere else? How do they have money? Are they also rich like most of the rest? (Absolutely no one is poor.)
The climax was way too fast and easy. The way they brought down the baddie was absolutely ridiculous. Then there were about five lines of someone being hurt and there being worry and then it was on to something else.
But the book didn’t stop there. It went in and on and on. And the professional speechwriter couldn’t come up with a speech off the fly.
Oh so awful. Why did I finish it? There wasn’t even any sex to make up for the rest. Everything was off page. Argh!
I loved this book. This is a new to me author and I’m so pleased I discovered this book. It was fun, the MCs and side characters were fab. The story moved at a great pace, I didn’t want it to end. I highly recommend this book
