First Year Hermione Grander couldn't wait to send her beloved fairytale collection to her anonymous book exchange partner, complete with a lovingly written note. In return she's given a very rare potions journal and a note written on expensive stationery: I like this book because potions are interesting. Don't feel too bad if I'm top of our class.
4.5 ⭐ A sweet short story following Draco and Hermione from First Year to Eighth Year after the war. They're pen-pals and they don't know it.
Words: 5,699 | Chapters: 1
Summary:
At the start of their First Year at Hogwarts, Hermione and Draco become anonymous book exchange partners and continue their school years. Hermione gifts her pen pal her beloved fairytale collection along with a lovely note. In exchange, she receives a rare potions journal with a note written on expensive stationery that says, "I like this book because potions are interesting. Don't feel too bad if I'm top of our class."
By Third Year, Hermione discovers she is corresponding with Draco Malfoy and, instead of ending their book exchange, decides to take this opportunity to try to change his blood purity ideologies.

My Thoughts:
This was such a great canon divergent story following a secret pen pal relationship between Draco and Hermione. I like that it doesn't interfere with the original Harry Potter storyline.
I love swotty Hermione. Because she's brilliant, Hermione learns Draco is her secret pen pal and decides it's the perfect time to educate him. So she starts sending him muggle-related books. Totally something Hermione would do.
Poor Draco. He transforms throughout the years, and by the time he discovers Hermione is his pen pal, he doesn't actually believe in blood purity rubbish anymore. But unfortunately, he still has no choice but to join dark forces. I felt bad for him. He's really a softy but is forced to do things he doesn't want to do. At one moment, Hermione touches his hand to comfort him, and she thinks, "It made her wonder just how starved he was for any bit of affection. Did anyone in his life care?" This broke my heart because I thought the same thing in the canon Harry Potter series. At least in this story, Hermione offers him some care and affection.
Also, how Draco tells Hermione he can't have her in his mind because Voldemort will see. 😭 Ugh, this gave me Silencio vibes. I'm just glad they got to share a tender moment before the Death Eaters were let into Hogwarts.
Not a lot of spice, but that's okay. This story spans a couple of years, so they're children for most of it. There's only one sweet moment during their Six Year and a spicy scene during their Eight Year. But that's it. However, because of this one spicy scene, I'd say this is 18+.
Overall, a super cute story that definitely is worth the read!

absolutely not enough buildup for the sexual attraction to make sense (and other attraction, the trust etc were not rlly developed/shown well enough), which is whats preventing me from giving this a 3, but it was actually still pretty good. best part is that hand holding knuckle brushing part coz ew thats exactly what i want, not make out scenes that sprang out of nowhere. 2.8✨
Ever since I read Saffron A. Kent’s My Darling Arrow, I’ve been a big fan letter writing between the love interests in stories and if I come across one, it’s a good chance I’ll want to read it. So when I saw Between Pages, I saw the “secret pen pals” and “Book Exchange” tags and I knew immediately that I was going to read it before I even read the synopsis. There’s not a lot of the letters Draco and Hermione exchange that we get to read, but I didn’t mind that. It was enough knowing that they communicated that way even after they both knew and I loved that Hermione figured it out first and was trying to get Draco to change his views.
I loved watching the progression between Draco and Hermione throughout the school years and how it was similar to the story we already know, but also with DarkoftheMoon’s spin on it. Between Pages made my heart ache a little, but mostly it was just a cool, lowkey Dramione story and I really enjoyed that and just enjoyed reading it in general. It was a nice way to pass the time and I’m happy I found it!
4.5⭐️ One of my all-time favs! It's such a cute and well-written short story. One of my favorite things about this fic is actually the last words. I love how the ending connects with the title. It's so perfect.
