When Ruth travels to Dunscaith to investigate an ancient serial killer and accidentally steps though a door that thrusts her back in time to ancient Scotland, she must not only face her budding feelings for Liam MacLeod but also survive the very killer she was researching…
Successful mystery writer Ruth Roseworth is obsessed with one of the oldest serial murders in history, who happened to operate near Dunscaith Castle. To search her new book, she travels there, to the Isle of Skye, but accidentally ends up in ancient Scotland during the killing spree.
Veteran member of the castle guard Liam MacLeod has a reputation as a local monster hunter, and the rash of deaths among his guardsmen leads him to believe an evil sidhe is responsible. When Ruth appears from the future and informs him the serial killer is very human, he’s less than impressed with the time-displaced writer trying to tell him how to do his job.
But when Liam himself becomes a target for the killer they hunt, he’s forced to acknowledge that Ruth is just as big of a distraction as his ego. The two must work together to protect the residents of Dunscaith while also grappling with the growing feelings they have for each other. If they can’t find the murdered soon, they may end up as one of his many historical victims.

American writer, Ruth Roseworth, goes to Scotland, in Great Britain to research and get information for her latest novel. It centers around a medieval serial killer in ancient Scotland, on the Isle of Skye near Dunscaith castle. Dunscaith castle is the home for clan MacLeod, as this serial killer was rumored to have killed five people in the village near The Dunscaith castle. The research that Ruth obtained is not much and now she is seeking more detailed information on this ancient serial killer. Even though she is at this castle, she is still getting frustrated with the not very helpful tour guide. He is telling a bizarre unbelievable story, about a warrior woman named Scathach who supposedly built this castle, which Ruth does not believe added with a few ghost spottings in to his story too. It is fine for entertaining children, but not grown adults, yet this tour guide seemed obsessed with this Scathach warrior woman and then he started talking complete nonsense about time travel as that was Ruth’s absolute limit. Now enough was enough she thought and went off to explore on her own!
Ruth finds the ruined areas of the castle and discovers a staircase that is roped off. She decides to be a bit of a rebel, so she enters where she obviously shouldn’t be. She soon finds warning signs that caution her to be with an authorized tour group only which she completely ignores. However she does discover this small door and of course she wants to see what’s on the other side of door! Well it was not what she expected as she ends up time traveling into Scotland in the sixteenth century! This is where she first meets highland hottie Liam MacLeod! At first Ruth is in complete denial until she meets other American women who had a purpose for being here and meets their soulmate. So soon Ruth realized solving this serial killer murdered hopefully before he does any real damage. Also it obvious Liam fancies Ruth so their adventure together soon begins but their are definitely some road blocks for Ruth. Like no showers, modern conveniences, no technology and she would have to hand write a book. Plus it’s the sixteenth century, women had a long way to go to show they’ve come a long way baby! Will Ruth survive having to depend on men for so many things, plus she has to be careful and not speak of her future home or what was about to happen or they could be labeled as witcheś.
Liam is a long time member of the castle guard and due to the many deaths of his guardsman he believes an evil fairie/Sidhe is the killer. Ruth explains it’s a human which Liam does not like at all! Especially a woman from the future lwho is telling him how to do his job! Now Liam becomes the serial killers next victim! So both Liam and Rose must work together to protect their clan and people of Dunscaith.
Shall Ruth ever come face to face with the medieval serial killer? If she does will she even survive or be his next victim? Will Liam be the one person that makes Ruth want to remain in the past? Will they create a love connection or will it be too late once the serial killer realizes Ruth knows his scheme? Read and and find out about Ruth’s amazing journey into the past.

Rebecca Preston’s “Order A Highlander: A Scottish Time Travel Romance” is Book 5 in the “A Highlander Across Time” series. I have enjoyed many books in this series and while I don’t particularly like shorter stories this story in is another great addition to the series.
As a mystery writer, Ruth Roseworth is on the Isle of Skye in Scotland at Dunscaith Castle to investigate an ancient serial killer and accidentally steps though a door that thrusts her back in time to ancient Scotland.
Liam MacLeod is a veteran member of the castle guard with a reputation as a local monster hunter. Considering the mini death among his guardsmen he’s convinced it’s the work of an evil sidhe. When Ruth arrives from the future she’s trying to convince him that it’s the work of a serial killer, a very human serial killer. He resents her telling him how to do his job until he becomes the target himself. Are used to agree to work together to stop this madman while also coming face-to-face with their mutual attraction of one another.
I enjoyed the story and Rebecca‘s writing is always done so well. She has a wonderful way of transporting you through time. Her descriptive language and imagery are amazing, dropping you right into the story from the start. I would however have much more preferred the story were longer and we had a better opportunity to get to know more about the characters in the life story itself. I did like the characters I felt like they worked well together but that their story could’ve been far more enhanced. I do look forward to reading the next in the series.
Thank you so much Ms. Preston for this wonderful trip through time.
When Ruth went to Scotland to research a Medieval serial killer for the new book she planned to write, she did not expect to go back in time and actually meet him. Once again we have a thrilling tale about a modern women, a little door, and a handsome MacLeod. When Ruth finds herself in sixteenth century scotland, with no chance of returning home, she lapses into illness and despair. Eventually she rallies and joins Liam on his search for a murderer. Liam is just adorable. It’s almost like he secretly wanted a time-traveler woman of his own…and lo and behold, Ruth appears. I love the way he admires and respects Ruth, while at the same time wanting to protect her. Even though this story focuses a little bit more on Ruth than on the actual mission, it will capture your interest, emotions and imagination. This series is just so much fun!

American mystery writer, Ruth Roseworth travels to Scotland to do research for her latest novel. Her new book is focused on a medieval serial killer in ancient Scotland near Dunscaith castle, where the Clan MacLeod lives. While investigating, she finds herself thrown back in time to sixteenth century Scotland and into the arms of highlander Liam MacLeod. Since Ruth is the fifth time traveler women to come to the castle, Liam introduces her to a world she has a hard time believing is real. Surprised that her appearance in the past had put her on the path of the mystery she was investigating, Ruth realized that this was possibly her chance to help unravel it. But Liam MacLeod was not making things easy for her, the attraction between them was disturbing her and suspicions were being raised about her. I liked the character of Ruth. Given to the detail and analysis of the situation at hand, but also with a fertile imagination that stimulated the subtle romance in which she was involved with Liam. Liam's wariness proved justified, and I liked his control over the danger looming over Ruth. Interesting and intriguing story with Ruth and Liam’s investigative work, suspense, mystery, deception, dark emotions, danger, romance and passion.
This 5th book in A Highlander Across Time Book Series is a well-written and unique highlander time travel romance story with wonderful characters who interesting personalities and histories. Rebecca Preston is absolutely fabulous and she never disappoints me. This was one of my favorite books in this series yet. The main characters were definitely made for each other and complimented each other perfectly. This book had me from the get go. I did take my time reading it as I'm always so sad when the book is finished. The Ms. Preston writes makes it very easy for me to visualize what I'm reading and for me that is a big thing. Once again Ms. Preston I thank you for taking me away from my daily pain of healing after breaking my hip and having surgery. This book was like a ray of sunshine in my life just when I needed it most.
A murder mystery blended with time travel to 1500’s Scotland posed so may engaging elements. I was curious how a writer like Ruth would fare in the past. I liked watching Ruth and Liam work together to sort out the mystery as well as explore their personal connection. It is always interesting to see the impact of “expected roles” for both men and women within the past. I couldn’t put the book down, reading until the crime was solved and beyond right to the HEA ending!

Ruth is an author who goes to Scotland to do research for a new book. While in an old castle she crawls through a small door and finds herself in the 16th century in the very same castle – only now the castle is not in ruins. When she arrives she meets Liam MacLeod. Order A Highlander is another great installment of the A Highlander Across Time series. It is one of my favorite Scottish time travel romance series and once again Rebecca Preston does not disappoint. Although the last few books have been shorter than the first two, they do not lack substance. The characters and story are well written. The story grabs you right from the start, there is mystery, suspense, danger and of course romance. I always enjoy getting lost in Rebecca Preston's world and finishing a book always has me looking forward to what is next.
Wonderful and entertaining Highland time-travel romance. Ruth is a writer and working on another book about Highland story’s and research. She definitely learns more of what happened that history books never covered. Liam is the first person she meets but he’s not surprised to see her. They set off on a story of suspense, intrigue and murder. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Preston.
Modern Ruth finds herself in Scotland of the distant past. She's on the trail of a serial killer and changing time and place isn't going to stop her, but Liam isn't going to make it easy. Two people that are right together but have to butt heads for a while to find a comfortable dynamic. Fast paced adventure with likable characters that you'll want to solve the mystery and get together.

I really loved this book of time travel involving a modern mystery writer, a murder mystery and a Laird and his entire kingdom - village and all. It was really hard to put down. If you have not found A Highlander Across Time series you are missing some great reads.

I appreciated the whole author going back in time ending up in the year she was researching for her latest novel. Intelligently constructed with a lighthearted vibe, and great research and attention to detail, this is an enjoyable read.
Liam and Ruth have discovered a passion that they can't deny. When Ruth becomes trapped in the past, she find out it is because of a witch that decided she was needed in the past. A good who done it.
Arc review For honest Review this time travel story has Ruth roseworthy a writer who stumbled upon a cryptic reference of a ancient murders which she desides to write her story on goes to Scotland for research and finds her stepping back in time . Awesome story.
I absolutely loved this book and was honored to have been able to read and review. It was such a phenomenal read and had amazing characters as well as an amazing story line. I just could not get enough of it and once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I recommend that you read it.
Although I love this series, this one went by much too quickly. A good story, though more of a novella than a full length novel. Not enough character development, and over way too fast.
Emotionally thrilling, edge of your seat roller coaster ride from beginning to end. Highly entertaining, sexy, fun and action packed adventure through time that is filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and thrilling passion.
