The Wild River series by Jennifer Snow is one that can be read in any order. Each book features a different main couple and their stories, but there will be some recurring characters in the books. This is only the third book in the series I have read and I enjoyed it very much. Ellie Mitchell had plans to become a teacher, but when her parents die, she gets a job at the local bookstore and ten years later, she is still there. She is concerned about attending her highschool reunion, especially showing up alone and facing her highschool boyfriend who is bringing a gorgeous model. Callum McKendrick is in love with Ellie but just sees him as a friend. When he offers to go with Ellie to her reunion and being her fake boyfriend, Ellie is not sure but accepts. This is Callum's chance to prove that he could be more than a friend and that he and Ellie would make a great couple.
This was a fun fake boyfriend story. Ellie was so blinded by her memories of her ex, that she couldn't see what was right in front of her. This story isn't just a romance. There are themes of following your dreams, family relationships, mental health and moving forward. Ellie is rather shy and did not have a lot of friends. It was hard watching her change and become something she wasn't to try to fit in with her old highschool mates. Callum was such a great character. Not only was he a long suffering admirer, but he also supported his brother who dealt with a lot of anxiety and put up with his bullying father. He supported Ellie, even when he knew she was making the wrong decision. I enjoyed this story and loved watching Ellie change, mature and realize what she really wanted. There are a few graphic scenes (a couple only dreams, but steamy) however they were easily skimmed over without disrupting the story. I did a read/listen of this book, with the audiobook narrated by Melissa Moran. She has a wonderful voice that is easy to listen to. She gives a voice to Ellie that fits well. Her expression and inflection is right on. Once again my issue with male voices is here with this one. I always prefer a male narrator to do their voices, but that is not the narrator’s issue. Overall, the narration was well done and added to my enjoyment of the story. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
Jennifer Snow can do no wrong in this series! It’s adorable and fun with just the right amount of steam. I also like that the series can be read as stand alone stories, but the characters are all interwoven in each one. Ellie had dreams of being a teacher, but when her parents pass away, she finds she can’t afford college so she takes a job in the local bookstore and, 10 years later, she’s still working there. Now it’s time for her high school reunion, and Ellie hopes that revisiting her first love will bring him back to her life, as she’s never gotten over him even after all this time. Her co-worker and good friend volunteers to be her plus one for the reunion so that she doesn’t look as pathetic as she feels and they come up with a plan to make her ex jealous, but in the process, they look differently at their friendship. The fake boyfriend trope can be cheesy sometimes, but thankfully that’s not the case with this book. He characters have personalities that get the reader invested in and it’s just an overall great escape read! Thanks to HQN Books and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.
Quite possibly the worst book I’ve ever read. I truly disliked everything about it…every decision the characters made and every stupid thought expressed made each chapter worse than the last. I’m not normally so negative but this book was a new low for me. It barely included any information about other characters/setting in the series so if you’re interested in the series, you could skip this one and live a happier life because of it.

A Wild River Novel
Book 1: An Alaskan Christmas Book 2: Under an Alaskan Sky Book 3: A Sweet Alaskan Fall Book 4: Stars Over Alaska Book 5: Alaska Reunion
Review: I had a completely different summary in my head when I started this so it took my brain a moment to wrap around what was happening. I knew it was a school reunion but I must have been thinking of another one like this on my TBR. I love Callum, definitely not his name but all of the rest of him. I think I'll give this book 4.5 stars it was a good read and I'm a little obsessed with their fake romance and how much Callum likes Ellie. I am trying to avoid giving it 5 stars just because it is lightyears better than my last read. It was a little forgettable but once your reading it you remember how sweet it is. I also will definitely be back tracking and reading the first four books in the series because of how sweet this one has been. I want to smack Brent 90% because he reminds me of my toxic ex and 10% because he is a grade A jerk. I've wanted to smack him throughout this whole book. Such a great, quick read.
this was tough to get through, I wasn’t a fan of the writing- the main character was insufferable at best, not a single page of this book would pass the bechdel test. obviously I was lookin for something light and fun but I expected some level of development here other than the main relationship. there was nothing else to really break that up. ellie (main character) has so little care for herself it’s not even funny & there’s so little background given. her parents had an “illness” it’s barely mentioned, they died months apart right after she was outta high school I feel like that would impact her more?? she ignores every single red flag with her ex, she has no friends after 10 yrs in the same place? could’ve had more development with the gal who owns the bookshop to maybe fill that gap. Callum was great and all but at times the writing of his chivalry felt a little forced, he’s also applauded for doing very basic decent things. the one thing i can appreciate is the book being a stand alone despite begin part of a series- love that. man idk reading this book drove me crazy & not in a silly fun way. if i never here the name “Brent” again it’ll be too soon
4,5 Sterne
Good book this is the fifth book in Jennifer Snow’s Wild River series. For some parts of this book I was a little annoyed with Ellie and how she couldn’t decide between Callum and Brent. It felt too much like she was trying to have her life the way it was in high school before her relationship with Brent ended.
Unanswered Prayers. This is another solid continuation of this loosely-coupled series where the couples in each book may show up in the others, but the focus of each story is its leading couple. Here, we get a great and fun forced proximity / fake relationship romance... that of course (because it *is* a romance novel) becomes a real one. Solid fun in the Alaskan setting, including getting out on the multitudinous waterways of the region and even some climbing and other more adventuresome activities. For the clean/ sweet crowd... ummm... maybe sit this one out. ;) For those that like intense sex scenes (nothing particularly kinky, just enough steam to drive a dang electric generator), I think you'll like this one. :) Snow knows her genre very well, and this is a perfect example of that. Very much recommended.
I'm rating this book highly because of all the fun outdoor activities at an Alaska adventure centre, and how they are worked into the story. Abseiling builds character and couples yoga makes the people think more about their partner.
Some issues that did not work well for me, were that a young man works in the town bookstore yet his boss is unaware, for years, that he volunteers with search and rescue. This is a small town. How would she not know? Does he not have to let her know he may need to take off to help, or have days for training? Do people not talk to her? And he wants to be an author. Of course he does. That's why he works in a bookstore despite having a family job in hospitality available. How did she not know? What did these two ever talk about in this quiet bookstore in a quiet town?
The guy has quite lengthy daydreams about getting his boss into bed. Too long, and too many. I am blaming an editor for this because they clearly do not fit with the story and come across as padding. Plus they are in italics; I don't read italics. The trope of a fake boyfriend also seems contrived and needy, but everyone has learned a lesson by the end of the class reunion.
I read an e-ARC from Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.
Besides my visceral reaction to starting off with an invitation to the reunion for the class of 2011 (too soon!), this was a cute story that I was able to read in one sitting. It's perfect to pick up even if you haven't read the rest of the Wild River series as there wasn't a lot of crossover and the MCs are new to us characters.
Thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for my copy to review.

Synopsis: Ellie has been working at Flipping Pages since she graduated high school and when her high school reunion comes around she’s embarrassed she hasn’t accomplished her dreams like she thought she would have. Compounding issues, her ex-high school sweetheart did everything he set out to do and is going to be attending the reunion with a supermodel. When Callum, Ellie’s Clark-Kent look alike coworker offers to be her fake date so she doesn’t have to go alone, Ellie goes, little does she know fake relationships are about to complicate everything.
What I liked: -I loved Callum. He was a really enjoyable character to read about. I love how passionate, but private he was about his writing dreams, how he supports his brother tirelessly, how he defies his abusive father, and how he loves Ellie. He was an absolute highlight of this book. -As always I love reading about Alaska and seeing our favorite characters from wild river pop up in the story.
What I didn’t like: -I really dislike how the fake dating was done in this story. Brett is a jerk and it’s pretty obvious that he is a jerk from the second we meet him to everyone but Ellie. I had a hard time understanding why Ellie was still trying to make him jealous and get him back so late in the story. I thought the fake dating was going to lead her naturally to realize she wanted to be with Callum and she would forget about/realize that Brett is a jerk. This does ultimately happen, but way too late in my opinion. I ended up really disliking Ellie because of how she treats Callum and how she lets herself be treated by Brett.
Final Thoughts: I still love reading about wild river, but unfortunately this book had some major issues for me. I did love Callum so he helped save the novel a bit, but I had some major problems with Ellie which really detracted from the story for me. Regardless, as with the other books the writing is compelling and easy to read.

Theres nothing better then a class reunion to get people to question their life choices. Ellie has been working in a bookstore for a while and now kinda feeling stuck. She should've been a teacher and with her ex Brett who might also attend the reunion. Callum has a thing for Ellie offers to be her fake boyfriend. Maybe while pretending to be her boyfriend he can show her how he really feels but things start to get a bit more complicate as the lie goes on and its clear she wants her ex back.
This was a pretty eventful book I really enjoyed it. Its a fake boyfriend scenario to clearly mishaps and confusion are bound to take place. Then theres Callum who has seen Ellie for a while and crushing on her knowing who she was and seeing how she was around her school mates was tough on him. He didn't like seeing her turn into some people pleaser for these people who were once the popular crowd in school. He was so supportive and was trying hard to get Ellie to fall for him and he just watched over and over as Ellie bended over backwards trying to get her ex and these people. Then there's the whole backstories to these two characters that can't help but make you want to hug them and hope for the best and root for a better future for these two because they are working hard towards it. When it came to the romance I did like what I was seeing and enjoyed it. Overall this was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.
Callum comes from money, yet works at a bookstore instead of 5ge family resort, donating his salary to charitable causes. He's also a pt volunteer member for local search and rescue.
Ellie cones from humble beginnings and dreamed of being a teacher but after losing her parents after high school, she was forced to go to work in the local bookstore. Don't get ne wrong, she loves her job but as her 10 year HS reunion approaches , she's questioning her life choices.
Somehow Callum and Ellie end up attending not only her reunion but agree to 5 days at a wilderness resort with her former boyfriend and their group of HS friends. To top it off their friends think they're engaged, but she wants to investigate rekindling the romance with her ex: and the fun ensues.
A fun read with family angst, friendship drama, and an awakening of sorts that proves reality is stranger than anything we can imagine.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
Another in the Wild River series, in which Ellie Mitchell is certain that if she had the chance, she would get back together with her high school boyfriend, Brent. And wonder of wonders! He shows up in town to attend their 10-year high school reunion.
Callum McKendrick's first love is writing, but he does it in secret because his father insists that he and his younger brother run the hospitality empire he's created. Trouble is, the younger brother isn't up to the nastiness his father dishes out and Callum simply isn't interested in doing anything in the hospitality industry. He's much happier helped Ellie out in her bookstore.
What Ellie doesn't know is that Callum has been in love with her for years. When he agrees to be her fake date (and turns it into a fake engagement) for the reunion, Ellie is caught. What's she to do now? And what if she finds that Brent isn't the man she remembered but Callum is growing on her? Who's she going to choose? Or will she hide back in the bookstore, unable to make a decision?
I really disliked this book which is disappointing since I have rated all the others in this series 4 stars. Let me start with the fact that the main character Ellie's obsession with her old high school ex boyfriend for 10 years really got on my nerves. This lasts for 200 pages of this 300 page book. During their high school reunion, her friend Callum (the only part of this book I enjoyed)who was sweet, kind and had liked Ellie for a few years since they worked together at the local book store tells everyone they are together so she can save face for the loser ex Brent. The problem is that I could not understand what he saw in her for most of the book and thought he was too good for her. The ending just wasn't enough to make me like her. I almost DNF'd this a few times but knew I had to finish it in order to give it a low star rating. Apparently I am in the minority since most people seemed to like it.
Ellie Mitchell recieves an invite to her 10th class reunion, and is reluctant to go. Feeling as if life is passing her by, and all she does is manage the local bookstore, she finds out that her high school crush is going. And to her rescue is Callum McKendrick, who works at the bookstore, and is heir to the McKendrick Resort fortune. Whose father is nagging at him to work in the family business, which to Callum is akin to having your soul sucked out of you. And, he's been in love with Ellie forever. So, he offers to be her plus one for the reunion. But things get tricky, when the plans for the reunion aren't just for the party, but for a week long couples retreat at a local lodge. So now, Ellie has to work on her feelings for the high school crush, and Callum, while he has his father on his back.
ALASKA REUNION by Jennifer Snow is the fifth book of the Wild River series, and it’s a heartwarming and romantic tale about an unlikely couple finding love.
Callum McKendrick has been in love with Ellie Mitchell. Problem is that she hasn’t forgotten about her high school ex-boyfriend, and on the other hand, Ellie cannot ignore the chemistry with Callum. Which man does she prefer? ALASKA REUNION has delightful characters involving in a small-town romance.
Also included is WILD ALASKA HEARTS as a bonus story involving one of the characters from ALASKA REUNION who seems unable to forget an ex-boyfriend from her past when he literately drops back into her life.
Another great story in this series. Ellie has a high school reunion to go to. She keeps debating on whether to go. Once she sees her old flame is going she agrees to go. Than she sees he is bringing a plus one. That is where Callum comes in. He has been in love from afar with Ellie for years. So he offers to go as her plus one hoping he can get her to see him as the one she can trust. They bond and get closer but when at the reunion she and Brent keep talking. He was a sleaze from the get go to me. I didn't like him at all. This was a great book! You just have to read to see how everything works out. You will not be disappointed.
I decided to read this book because at the end of my last book by this author, she included the first chapter of this book. It was a typical love story. Very predictable but I liked it anyway. Ellie works at her hometown bookstore hoping to reconnect with her high school sweetheart at their upcoming high school reunion. In order to make him jealous, she hatches a plan with her handsome and single co-worker. Trouble arises when her co-worker is no longer playing the fake boyfriend. Like I said, very predictable but an easy read.
I loved this book from start to finish! There were a few times I wanted to smack the leading lady... (LOL) and say wake up girl... look what's in front of you! HAHAH
Callum is amazing. Wonderful employee, sad in his life and smitten over Ellie.
Trust me, if you like sweet friends to lovers kind of story-- this is your cuppa tea!!!
Thank you Harlequin and Harper Audio for our gifted review copies.
I LOVE this series so much. I did really enjoy this one as well despite the fact I don't care anything about HS reunions. Loved the hero's backstory and was honestly rooting for him way more than the heroine. Jen Snow continues to bring the heat and love all the Search and Rescue components of this series.
Having read two books in this series so far, I think I'm starting to like this series. From the setting to the characters and the different arcs each character is going through.
It helps that it has a bookstore in it so of course I'll read it too. Overall this one did get emotional at times and a little frustrating but still a good installment in the series so far.
I had no emotional connection to the characters. It felt like this story could have been dropped almost anywhere and would have been the same story. The unique and beautiful backdrop setting of Alaska wasn’t implemented well. The plot was a little too formulaic and predictable with stakes and conflict too low.
I loved everything about this story, Ellie and Callum were amazing together. Callum is definitely one of my top favorite book boyfriends, he's so sweet and thoughtful. Can't wait to read the next in the series!!!
