The Lord Jesus Christ is the central figure in the doctrine and practice of the Latter-day Saints. We boldly and unashamedly bear witness that Jesu of Nazareth is the Savior of all mankind. In essays written especially for this volume, eight respected Latter-day Saint teachers and scholars celebrate the beginning of the third millennium after the birth of Jesus Christ by revisiting what we know about him.
Hit and miss, as sometimes happens when an anthology casts a wide net. While some of these articles bordered on the edge of doctrine, it's always worthwhile to ponder more on Christ and Dr. Holzapfel remains my hero in this kind of scholarship.
It took me a month of Sunday's to read this book. It's not a light, easy, fluffy read. It's deep and thought provoking. It's one of those books that you could read 20 times and get something different out of it every time.
An excellent book. The subject matter clearly deserves five stars, but I only gave it four because the readability of the some of the essays was a little tough. Not too hard to understand, but not an easy read either. Overall, a fantastic collection of essays about our Redeemer.
