McKinley's Obsession Duet #2

Ruining Him: McKinley Ranch Duet

Rate this book
Josh

Emily came crashing back into my life, bringing with her everything I was missing.
But she’s not the same girl I knew years ago. Gone is the girl who was always happy and eager to please everyone. The one who didn’t let life get her down.
She’s conquered her demons but they still haunt her whenever she closes her eyes. Her screams tear through the darkness night after night.
She thinks she needs to get away, to keep running. To leave me behind.
But I won’t lose her again; I will slay anything, anyone, who thinks they can get in the way of my keeping her.

Emily

I wasn’t meant to let myself get attached to Josh again. I wasn’t meant to stay this long.
Now he knows my biggest secret; he knows I’m not the sweet girl he thinks I am.
I’m being chased, hunted down like prey. But I won’t let my past mistakes hurt Josh. I need to leave before he finds me.
Leaving Josh behind is not going to be as easy as I thought it would be, but it’s my only option. I’ll do whatever it is I have to do to protect him, even if that means I have to Ruin Him.

Segunda parte y final de esta historia.

Josh y Emily 😍
No sé confundan, también están locos. 🥴 jajaja
No explicaré mucho por que #spoilers...

Solo diré que la obsesión del detective me quedó en duda todavía, fue como muy random...
Y la falta de justicia criminal jajajaja se vio ausente todavía en este.

Aún así es una historia rápida y entretenida. 😊

“You have nothing to be sorry for, Emmy. What happened is not your fault. I’m sorry I didn’t know. I’m fucking sorry I can’t torture the fucking asshole and make him feel even a tenth of the pain you’ve felt.”

“I love you more than I’ve ever loved anything in my entire life. I know that I’m a lot to take at times. I know I’m far from being even remotely deserving of your love. But I promise I will try every day to be a better man, a man worthy of your time. I will do whatever I have to do to ensure that you know just how loved you are. I will cherish you. I will honour you. I will fucking worship you every day for the rest of my life.”

Damn.....
Picking up right where 'Ruining Her' left off we continue on with Josh and Emily's story.

Emily and her shattered soul are struggling. Not only is she drowning in guilt and fear, but her dark past has just caught up with her. Will she leave to protect Josh from her past? Or will she stand by his side and fight for the life they both finally deserve?
And....
Josh. How do you even put a man like this into words? I mean he openly admits to having killed someone everyday that ends in Y while also learning to braid hair just for Emily. I freakin love him! How could you not? He is the ultimate alpha anti-hero. He's unapologetically dark, twisted, possessive, obsessive, but has a hidden sweet side that he only gives to Emily.

The connection and co-dependency these two share is unbreakable, fierce, soul deep, possibly a little twisted, but damn it is pure FIRE!
And they will go to any bad-assery lengths to finally get their HEA. And oh boy that HEA, that Epilogue was pure I think I got something in my eye perfection.
I absolutely devoured this story which had me hooked from start to end. It's twisted, suspenseful, steamy, and has a few moments that you won't see coming.
And that ending has me desperate for more of this world.

After the cliffhanger we were left with, I was dying to get my hands on this story, and Kent does not disappoint!. It picks up right where Ruining Her left off and man is it messy. Josh gets the full story of what Emmy is running from, as he asked, but he was in no way ready to hear the absolute devastation she had been living with. You think he was possessive before? Well, this just puts him right over the edge. It's hell on him trying to assure her that she will be safe when they aren't even for sure who is after her. There are a whole bunch of twists and turns you never see coming or that Emily ever thought she would be a part of. One of the best parts though was seeing Emily come out of her shell. There were a few times that she had me gritting my teeth but after being with an abusive a-hole for years, I had to cut her some slack. She had to come to terms with the fact that she was okay and could face life as it comes and man, does she do that! This was the perfect conclusion for Josh and Emmy but it looks like it won't be all hunky-dory for long!

The conclusion to Emmy and Josh's story proves to be worth the wait. With Detective Jones looking for Emmy, Josh will go to any lengths to keep her safe and with him. Emmy will go to the same lengths to protect him from her past. But the detective is more than he seems, and plans on being a problem for the couple who just want to be together.

Josh and Emmy are one of my favorite couples. They're both crazy and willing to go to extreme lengths for each other, yet done feel like they deserve the other. Their chemistry is off the charts and the steam in this book is pretty high. Emmy's character goes from someone who is afraid of her own shadow at times, to being able to be her old self with Josh. Josh is crazy, but his love for Emmy is what you wish you could have for yourself.

When I got to the epilogue, I didn't think the book could get any better. But oh it did, and it's an absolute must read before finishing this book. I've never seen an author go that far into the future and I am so glad she did!

I really loved Ruining Her, the first part of this duet, and was looking forward to the completion of the duet.

Though the second installment of Emmy and Josh's story was not a homerun for me, there were still parts of the story that I loved. Josh's unwavering love - near obsession, really - for Emmy was intense and dark. We also got to see Emmy come out of her shell more and more - slowly shedding the fear and trauma of her horror with Trent. Her twisted protectiveness of Josh comes out as she threatens anyone who might be looking at him funny - and I love it.

The thing that probably bothered me a bit was that they both reveal these darker sides to their nature but then are both "what if they hate me now that they've seen this?" - and it was constantly. I get it if at first you're uncertain if they can handle what they've just witnessed but I would imagine - maybe - that the worry would lessen after the 100th time you've murdered someone for them and their response is pure, raw lust lol.

This was a good read and I loved seeing the end of their twisted love story.

An absolutely outstanding read! I've been dying to finish Josh and Emily's story since finishing ruining her and it did not disappoint!

Ruining her left us on a cliffhanger... Emily had been found and what was going to come next and let me tell you I didn't expect what came for her!

Josh is the epitome of possessive and loving in all the best ways and he bought out a side of Emily I didn't expect to see. We see her breach the shell that she's surrounded herself in since returning to Josh and all that she's been through coming to light but her confidence grew as the book went on and we saw her go toe to toe with her demons thanks to Joshs unwavering support!

Happiness doesn't come easy or cheap for these two despite Joshs Bank account and seeing them overcome everything standing in their way was the best way to end this duet! An absolute pleasure to read ❤

Ruining Him is the second book in the McKinley Ranch Duet. I absolutely love this darker side of Kylie's writing and since the first time we met Josh I was very interested in his story. I am so happy Kylie wrote it!!

This story is more from Emmy (Emily's) POV and her story and after the cliffhanger we were left with in book one, Ruining Her, this was a perfect ending to the duet. Then she went and tossed a sneak peak at us which left me hanging once again..... but for her next book! This book is going to give you the dark vibes, the secrets from the past will be told, the love is there and stronger, and so much more.

If you have not read this duet yet then it is a MUST! This will be a duet that you will want to read together and right in a row!

Wow what an ending to this duet.

After the cliffhanger we were left with at the end of ruining her I've been dying to get more from Josh and Emmy. my god did we get it!!

I totally didn't expect what was coming for Emmy nor the turn her story takes. Josh is the best kind of JP Alpha. Strong, possessive and willing to burn the world for his girl but not afraid to help her splash around a little of the gas first.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to this author and can't wait to see what she comes out with next,

This one was much better than the first book! Are they unhinged…yes, do they do really bad stuff…yes, are they overly possessive…yes! But I still loved them together and I loved seeing Emmy grow in there. Overall I really liked their story

Kylie Kent you have created two of my favourite MCs I love their story, their pain, their co depdancy and the unique and intense love.

Emmy is a shattered soul, beaten and broken from years of oppressive physical and mental abuse that she thought she'd escaped but that past just keeps coming back refusing to relinquish its hold. Emmys love for Josh goes beyond the now it is eternal and soul deep. She is plagued by guilt of what her past has Brough upon Josh and you watch her war with herself whether she will run and save Josh and stand and fight at his side.

Josh is ther perfect psycho alpha male antihero, he has killed someone everyday ending in a y but he has the purest obsessive love for Emmy it is a thing of beauty. How many men will willing learn how to plait their girlfriends hair to help keep her calm by watching YouTube videos. He will go to any length to protect the one thing he loves in this world even if he has to pay the ultimate price, he willingly goes into the lions den.

Their love and strength as the ultimate power couple is cemented when Emmy has to step beyond the boundaries of their relationship and embrace her own crazy, reckless side. I honestly believe Emmy is far more deadly than Josh, she just weilds her abilities as a secret weapon.

This is the perfect conclusion to Josh and Emmy's story filled with intense soul shattering love, an obsessively possessive alpha male, role reversals and a hard earned HEA.

The book leaves off right where Ruining her leaves off when we finally found out Emily’s secret. I love the alpha male possessiveness that Josh has around her. I love the chemistry they have together and I’m glad how the story turns out. One I don’t recall if was fully answered and I know Emily questioned it too, I get why the distance but why for so long? Why couldn’t it’d have happened sooner? Just my thoughts.

This book is the conclusion to Ruining Her, which must be read first. So, if you have not read the first book, stop reading this review and go back to book one.

This book picks up right where the cliffhanger left us. Josh still doesn't know all the details, but he knows Emily is in trouble and will do anything, and I do mean anything, to keep her safe. Keeping her safe means keeping her at the ranch with his brother and his brothers wife. Emily is not use to the freedom to make her own choices and she scrares easily when she does something that she thinks will upset someone. Josh does everything he can to help her overcome those fears, which is hard for him because seeing her scared and knowing why she is that way, makes him angry, but he holds back so he doesn't scare her even more. Josh is intense, the kind of man who doesn't care about showing his anger, so for him to be so patient and caring with Emily was really sweet. As the search for answers continue, Emily is growing more confident. And it's her confidence and love for Josh that eventually leads to the happily ever after that they deserve.

This was a fast paced story with a lot of suspense and a second chance romance that grows hotter by the minute. It's a quick, easy read with a "did not see that coming" end. If you enjoyed Ruining Her, you will love this book even more.

Captivating, gripping, pull you in from that very first page book 2 starts right where book 1 left off...

In true KK style the book reels you in and is an easy page turner...

You like (quite possibly love) the characters and want everything to work out by the end of book 1 BUT by the end of book 2 these characters take up a special place in your heart you cannot remove them easily nor do you want to ...

Josh and Emmys connection is one of a kind, their relationship is unique and their intimacy beautiful albeit codependent and perhaps to the outsiders a little bit (looks around to make sure Emmy isnt nearby) ... Crazy...

Furthermore who doesn't love a bad ass female, that yes she has issues, but are understandable and an alpha male who just adores the ground she walks on.

The villain is wrote with precision and downright frustrating evil. Meanwhile we meet again previous favourites in Dean and Ella, Bray and Zac. Also add in Josh's friend Sam who is an equal new favourite. With all these character you just know this book is going to have some hilarious one liners, action, heat and fabulous twists.

This book made me laugh, made me well up and made me sooo frustrated at times. A story which keeps you on your toes and wanting more. Roll on the next book

Omg Kylie you really did it I was blow away. Congratulations on this book two. It was well written and the love that Josh and Emily had for each other wow.

So if you may know Kylie left us with a cliffhanger on Ruining Her book 1 . Emily wanted to get out of the car and run away from her pass and leave Josh with any trouble. But their one problem Josh will not give up Emily for nothing know what he just hear from Emily mouth that she was married.

Josh was so puss off, Finding out Emily was married. Detective Jones was at his family home waiting for him. All In sudden Josh realize he will do anything to protect Emily from that Detective Jonas . The story was fantastic who Emily little bit she try’s to explain what had happen to her. Josh had to control his anger and be their for his women. I’m so glad Zac ,Bray and Dean from her previous oils are together in this story. And the ending wow love it. What not telling you more have to read this book it was amazing .
It was a honor reading this book. And being the team of Arc as well. ThNk you Kylie for this adventure of Josh and Emily story. 🥰❤️

Wow what a finish! Ruining Him picks up right where Ruining Her left off and we finally get the whole picture as to what Emily has been though. Josh was great here. He never gave up on her and stood beside her while she flipped around in what she wanted to do. She was a bit wishy-washy with her feelings and that got a little tedious after a bit but I guess with what she's had to endure I'll let it go. There was plenty of action and suspense. It also had a few twists that were very unexpected and lots of heat. Emily and Josh were good together. There were times Josh got a little too overprotective and it was a bit repetitive how he was never going to let her go and he shouldn't have let her go in the first place. You do need to have read the first book to understand what's going on here but otherwise it's a great second chance love story. I loved the setting in Australia and I enjoyed the authors writing. She thought of an exciting plot and executed it well. If you love suspenseful romances and second chances then you will enjoy this duet. I would recommend both Ruining Her and Ruining Him.

“We don’t always get to say how life ends up.”

Book 2 picks right up from the cliffhanger in book 1, it involves more action than the first and goes into other darker topics which I enjoyed. I loved how unhinged BOTH Josh and Emily can be - it was really fun to read. I loved when Emily started to feel more confident and her badass self started to come out. I wish we got a bit more suspense with the detective side of things, and it also felt a little anticlimactic with how things resolved HOWEVER I did love how this book ended. I felt like it was a perfect way to wrap up these characters stories, while also building up for Kylie Kent’s next book. I love how each of her books connects in some way or the other. Overall, this duet was a fun read and Kylie Kent approached the topics within with care and respect while painting a realistic picture of the results of such trauma. She also reveals how the survivor can grow and overcome the trauma which was honestly so good to read! I’m honestly really happy with the ending my loveable psychopaths received in this duet.

Well i have well and truly enjoyed this series so far it has defiantly had me gripped. From the very first turn of the page I was hooked and really didn’t want to put the book down when I finished Ruining her I couldn’t wait to be sent Ruining Him and it hasn’t disappointed me. To the point I literally didn’t put it down and had a late night reading it. This book touches on sexual abuse, physical and mental abuse and throughout there are a number of murders so if you have any triggers please take note.

This book follows on from Ruining Her where it ended in a cliffhanger... We see Josh and Emily become even closer in this book and Emily slowly starts to allow herself to trust Josh completely and he is most defiantly her safety net. But all doesn’t stay tranquil because she is found and a Josh goes above and beyond to try and track down the person behind her abuse.

Overall i throughly enjoyed reading this book and really look for award to reading more kylie Writes and she should feel extremely proud of these books as they are extremly well written. Well done kylie .

The amazing conclusion of Josh and Emily’s story!

Ruining Him takes places right where Ruining Her left off. The shocking news that Emily delivered to Josh right as book one ended makes Josh upset. He wants explanations and Emily gives them to him. To say Josh is angry is a complete understatement! The emotional and physical trauma she’s endured for years is absolutely horrible. It proves how trauma can affect you in all ways for days, weeks, months and even years later. Josh is determined to help Emily through it, so that she sees herself as the Queen she is and not to bow down to anyone or let them get the best of her.

Their chemistry is off the charts hot in this book and their love grows even stronger. You see a lot of character development from Emily in this book and how strong she is and how much stronger she becomes. She’s very protective of Josh and shocked me towards the end when she did what she had to do for him.

I absolutely LOVED Josh and Emily and I thought their story ended perfectly! This duet is one of my top favorites reads of 2021!

I have no words to explain how much I loved these two psychos. Josh and Emily are a soulmate match and it takes all of Ruining Her and Ruining Him to get their HEA. You really have to read both books to get these two and their crazy journey.

Ruining Him is the perfect conclusion to their love story. Emily overcomes so much to get to a place of acceptance and Josh is just himself. Their codependency is strangely grounding and romantic in the context of their messed up lives. The casualness of the violence throughout the book amused me. It was so fitting to Josh's mental state and his raging desire to protect and love his queen.

The underlying mystery element of the story is gripping and satisfying. But for me this really was all about the perfection of the leads. Both are unusual and slightly deranged. But their actions make so much sense as you really get to know them. This was fun, amusing, somewhat dark and just a fabulous and quirky love story.

Fantastic! Kylie Kent has completely blown me away with this conclusion to Josh and Emmy’s duet!

The fierce protectiveness, devotion and love that Josh and Emmy feel for one another is what romance stories are made of. The lengths they would go to to protect one another makes me feel all giddy and swoony inside. This story was action-packed, full of suspense, super sexy-times and full of swoon-worthy moments. Not to mention the transformation Emmy goes through, slowly shedding her trauma and fear as Josh and Emmy navigate the craziness that is life. Seeing Emmy slowly breakdown her walls was a sight to behold.

The chemistry between Josh and Emmy was unlike anything else I have read. It was beautiful, passionate, intense. They are undoubtedly one of my favorite couples to date! This story was a wild whirlwind that had me sitting at the edge of my seat waiting for what would happen next. Love love loved it!

What a ride! Life isn’t fair: when you’re soul mate runs you out of town and tells you not to come back. When you run to him for help, he now wants to burn the world down because he wasn’t your one and only.

Emily is all torn up inside after her past with her abuser, things trigger her, and her PTSD will stop her cold. A look, burned food, a tone will turn her into a screaming mess. She doesn’t feel worthy of Josh, and she keeps waiting for him to run.

They are relearning each other after years of being apart. Add in a small stalker situation, and life’s a party.

Ruining him is the second book in a duet. Triggers : scenes and discussions of non-consensual sexual acts, profanity, sexual content and violence.

There is a HEA and they definitely work for it. I loved this duet!

Ruining Him is another captivating read by the awesome Kylie Kent.
This is darker than Ruining Her, the first in the series, although that was somewhat expected, as Emmy’s past is unveiled. Emmy’s past comes back to haunt them, with some neat twists and turns. Josh has his own darkness, but would do anything to protect Emily, and you desperately want them to get their happy ever after. I love that these two flawed characters get their second chance, find each other, and do anything to protect their relationship. I love a duet, and this one is up there with the best.
Warning – there are some triggers, so avoid if violent domestic situations are difficult for you. Whilst difficult to read, they are contextual, and add the necessary backstory.
I LOVE the ending, especially the epilogues. These wrap this series up beautifully. Get onto it – now.

This was a very satisfying conclusion to the duet. It had more action than the first book and all of our questions were answered.

I really like seeing the growth within the female main character, Emmy. I think the author did a great job showing her reactions and emotions to her past trauma and not just brushing it under the table. She painted a sad and realistic picture but she also painted a picture of strength and being able to grow and overcome what she had gone through.

Watching her and Josh grow as a couple was super sweet. I adored the epilogue and I love that the author’s next books are going to focus on the next generation in this family. Looking forward to continuing to see how this world and its characters grow.

Reading  through this book, I am left with more questions. I need more information about Trent and the Detective. Why 4 years? How did this get to be a thing at all? I don't understand any of it.

I'm surprised that Josh didn't look into the detective earlier when he found out that he was the one that signed both the death certificates. That seems like a loose end he wouldn't have left out there.

I am glad they got their HEA, but the overlying premise turned weird. It went from abusive husband to... whatever that was. Something convoluted and just strange. This was a great story, I just would have liked a little more information for it to make more sense.

I will be moving on to the next books, now.

Definitely not a book for the faint hearted with a lot of controversial topics.

I loved this intense story. A second chance on love full of suspense with a twisted storyline. With love and trust you can overcome heartbreak and abuse. With love and trust you can learn to forgive yourself.

It is a unusual dark romance with a love that has no boundaries The hot and steamy scenes are off the charts. The hurt and sadness the characters went through reaches deep inside your heart.

A great read from a top author.

Ruining Her...cliffhanger resolved!!!
Kylie Kent's Ruining Him: McKinley Ranch Duet is a great way to continue Josh and Emmy's story. Throughout this book you see both characters evolve into the man an woman that each could be proud of. To see Emmy's transformation from this broken woman come out of her shell and become a bad ass who doesn't play games when it comes to Josh. This is a beautifully written story filled with equal parts true love and hot sex. I highly recommend reading the McKinley Ranch Duet, so grab your copy today.

Ruining Him by Kylie Kent - this is the next book after Ruining Her - must read it first before reading this one. This book picks up right where book 1 finishes.
This is another absolute winner from Kylie, she know how to write and get you hooked from the first page.
This story is about Emmy and Josh. How Emmy's past comes back to haunt them. There is a lot of heat, thrills, twists and turns that will not disappoint.
Looking forward to where Kylie will take us next!! Hope you enjoy reading Kylie's books as much as I do.
