Avery North has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Amber and Jake. You need to read the prequel to this book so that you can get the back story on Amber and Jake. Amber has lived with who she believes to be her aunt Corrine since she was twelve years old when her parents went away on an adventure. The reason they said she could not go with them as it was too dangerous. Now Amber has just been laid off from her job due to cutbacks. She goes out with her friend Patty and she meets Jake. Jake seems to think he knows her and he wants to talk to her more. Just before he leaves, he gives Amber his card and asks her to call him so they can go out for coffee and talk. She never calls him. Corrine has gone out and Amber doesn't want to stay in alone, so she goes to a gallery opening. She meets Jake again and they talk some more. He talks her into going out to dinner with him. He finds out she is out of work and he offers her a job since his assistant just went on leave to have her baby. Amber takes the job and things seem to go well with them working together. The chemistry between them is off the charts and they give into it. They start seeing each other. Jake takes Amber with him to Italy and they have a working holiday. A few days after they get back, Jake gets a call while him and Amber or going over some things and he tells her he has to go and take care of something and doesn't know long he will be. He doesn't tell her what it is. Later in the afternoon, she still hasn't heard from Jake and she gets a message from Corrine telling her to come to the apartment, it's an emergency. Corrine doesn't tell her what it is. When Amber gets there, Corrine introduced her to Mr. Corbin. He tells her that he was her parent's lawyer and they were in an accident and are dead. He tells her that they left her some of their estate and the family cabin at Lake Logan. He also tells her that she was left $500,000.00 dollars. When Corrine hears this, she gets mad since she was not left anything. When Amber leaves, she forgets her copy of the will. Corrine reads it and finds out that if anything happened to Amber, everything went to her. Amber tells her that she would give her something but not what. Amber has signed the paperwork and is told that Corrine would get everything if something happened to her. After leaving the lawyer's office, Amber wants to see Jake and goes over to his house. When the door unlocked and opened, Amber’s smile soon faded when she saw a woman dressed in a bathrobe, her hair dripping wet, standing on the other side of the door. “Can I help you?” the woman said, sound a bit annoyed that she had been interrupted. “I’m looking for Jake?” Amber said, checking the door number to make sure she had the right place. “He’s in the shower. Who are you?” “I’m a friend. Who are you?” “I’m his girlfriend,” the woman snapped, looking even more irritated. “Actually, his fiancée." “I’m sorry,” Amber said, looking confused. “His fiancée? I didn’t know he had a fiancée.” “Yeah, he does. We split up for a bit, but we’ve recently got back together, and nothing will ever break us apart again,” the woman said. “How do you know Jake.” Too stunned to answer, Amber just looked at her. “It really doesn’t matter.” “Well, can I at least tell him why you wanted to see him?” the woman asked, curious as to who this stranger was. “No, that’s fine,” Amber said, trying to hide her disappointment and her anger. “It’s nothing important.” “Well, if you are one of those floozies he hangs out with, you can just forget about him cause he’s taken,” the woman said, slamming the door shut. Amber has gotten the check for Corrine and taken it to her. Amber is not too happy with Corrine and doesn't want to be there with her. Corrine tries to get Amber to drink some wine and talk to her. Something that Corrine said makes her think twice and she sets the wine on the table and tells Corrine that she doesn't want any wine. Corrine asks "Have you went to the cabin yet?" Amber tells her no, that she going up that weekend to do some thinking." Corrine tells her to be careful. Jake has tried to call and text Amber but she doesn't answer either one. She deletes all the messages without reading them. That weekend, Amber drives up to the cabin and before getting there, she stops for supplies at the grocery store in town. Amber is having a glass of wine and her phone keeps buzzing. It is Jake and she finally gets tired of him calling so she answers and said: "What do you want?" she said angrily into the phone. “What is happening here? I don’t understand why you won’t talk to me,” Jake said from the other end of the phone. “What have I done wrong?” “Why don’t you go and ask your fiancée?” Amber snapped before hanging up and turning off her phone. She was done with men and their lies. From now on, she would live her life the way she wanted to. If love happened, it would be on her terms, no one else's. After dinner, Amber starts a fire since there was a chill in the air. As she is sitting drinking her wine, there is a knock on the door. “Amber! Open the door,” Jake's voice called from behind the side door. “We need to talk.” Jumping up, Amber looked around in panic. What was he doing here? "Jake, there is nothing to talk about,” Amber yelled. “Please, Amber. Hear me out. It’s not what you think,” Jake begged. “Please let me talk to you. I don’t want to lose you over a misunderstanding.” Amber shook her head. “A misunderstanding? I find out you have a fiancée that you never told me about and that you are back together with her. You call that a misunderstanding? Was that the situation that you had to deal with, Jake? Making up with your fiancée?” “No, no, she isn’t! Well, she was my girlfriend, but she isn’t now. Oh, please let me in so I can talk to you, Amber. I love you!” closure. Opening the door, she looked at him grimly. “You have twenty minutes.” “Thank you,” Jake said, walking through the door. “I had a hard time finding you.” “How did you find me?” she asked, closing the door and looking at him. “I harassed Patty,” Jake confessed. “She finally gave in when she saw how desperate I was.” She tells him that he has twenty minutes and then he has to leave. Jake explains about Germaine. He said that when he found out what she had said to Amber, he kicked her out and told her he never wanted to see or hear from her again. After hearing this, will Amber give Jake another chance? What plans does Corrine have for Amber so that she can get Amber's money? This book will leave you with a cliffhanger but was well worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone.

Flame is the first book in the Fight for love series. Be warned that this series is a continuing story-line about one couple until they get their HEA in the last book. So each book will end with a cliffhanger. In Flame we are introduced to Amber Paige and Jake McCarthy. Amber is twenty-two years old and is a sweet young woman who is putting herself though school. She lives at home Aunt Corrine in a rundown house. She has lived with Corrine since she was twelve years old, when parents dropped her off and continued traveling the world, not sure what they were doing. At first it was okay being with Corrine but then things got worse as the furniture and things which were given to Corrine at the time were sold off. It seems that Corrine was spending the allowance she was given each month on everything but Amber. Jake is thirty-two years old and has just opened a new art gallery, The Charles McCarthy Gallery. Art is his passion and he knows a lot about it. Jake is also a self made man who is now one of the top ten richest men in the country. This means he is also one of the most powerful and chased bachelors. But Jake is very humble since he grew up not poor but not rich either. It is another night when Aunt Corrine is going out and Amber is staying home. But she decides she does need a night out, so she texts her best friend Patty. They decide to meet for a drink and it is the same bar that Jake decided to go to with some friends also. Jake saw Amber the minute she walked in and ends up going over to where she is sitting. He gives her his card and asks her to call him, which she has no intention of doing. That all changes on Monday morning when Amber gets into work at the local newspaper and is promptly downsized out of a job. Needing a pick-me-up Amber decides to go to the MaCarthy Gallery. She spends the rest of the day with Jake discussing art while at the gallery, with a nice dinner afterwards. I wonder if this will develop into a romance or will they become friends? There is something about Aunt Corrine that is just off also? Amber also gets a big surprise which will change her entire world.
I liked this first book in the story. I loved Amber as she is just trying to get by, not expecting much out of her life. But when she decides to perk up and take some steps to having a life she ends up with something so much bigger than she ever expected. Jake is a great guy that you would want as a friend, whether he was rich or not. He also has an interesting "relationship" with his mother. Together they are a sweet and loving couple who are supportive of each other. They also have some steamy sexy romps. I am looking forward to reading the next book to find out exactly what happens next.
This new series starts out very quickly, with Jake opening his gallery, using the funds he earned from his father and his mentor's inheritances, and good investing - making him a very wealth man (billionaire), by the time he is only 32. Amber is still stuck living with her unhappy aunt Corrine, working a low-level job at a local paper, and still also not loving life, at 22 (10 years with the aunt, and rarely hearing from her travelling parents). This is some info that is alluded to in the prequel sent out in Avery North's recent newsletters ("Fight For Love").
The pair meet out at a pub with their friends one evening, and hit it off immediately. They get to talking and she ends up at his new gallery one day a few days later, after the newspaper lays her off. Things move very fast from there, friendship, relationship, work, home life-wise, etc.! Then something very unexpected happens and Amber comes into a windfall. Aunt Corrine makes some threats, someone from Jake's past shows up a stirs up a lot of trouble, and it all ends with a literal bang - an always expected Avery North cliffhanger! Since these novellas are usually 6 parts to a whole story, that is always something that needs to be anticipated!
A fantastic start to the new series - quick paced, great storyline, great new characters. I'm really looking forward to seeing where it all goes. It's quite a bit darker than the other series of hers I read, and I am totally here for it!

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the Fight For Love series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Let me start off with I hate cliffhangers (but I knew it was going to be one …still hate them 😊)! Amber is intelligent, just fired from her job and still living with her aunt after her parents dropped her off years ago and she just wants to find her place. Jake sexy as all get out wealthy art gallery owner, wanting something more sees Amber and her best friend uses a cheesy pickup line asking, “where he’s seen her before?” and of course giving her his number. She doesn’t call him but on the day, they fired her she walks to his gallery needing a distraction and Jake sees her giving her a tour and of course not allowing the opportunity to pass ask her to dinner. While getting to know each other she tells him about her job she just lost, and Jake offers her a temp. position as his assistant. The chemistry is instant and intense, the magnetic pull can’t be ignored but where doesn’t it lead ….waiting for what these two get into next will it all lead to happiness ?
*Spoilers* Amber was a home body. She got this job paying well and her first thought was to move out of her aunt’s house. She called her friend Patty to meet her at the bar. While at the bar a man was staring at her. He was handsome and rich. While her friend went to the bathroom he came over and handed her his business card. Amber’s world started falling apart. The job she has had budget cuts and she was let go. She went to the gallery to look around when she ran into Jake. He took her out. They got to talking and he offered her a job. They started spending time together. Amber got a call from her aunt that she needed to she her immediately. When Amber arrived a man she never saw before was there. He was her family lawyer and informed her that her parents had died and left her an inheritance. Corrine was upset they left her nothing Amber went to talk to Jake and when she got to the door a woman claimed to be Jake’s fiancée. She slammed the door in Amber’s face. Amber can’t believe it , she ignores his calls and goes to her family cabin. Jake comes to the cabin begging for Amber to listen. Amber is torn

Well-written absorbing start to a series. 4* This is the 1st book in a new series and is the story of Jake and Amber. She is a lonely girl, abandoned by her globetrotting parents living with her aunt. Jake is a wealthy art gallery owner. They meet and Jake learns that not all his pick-up lines work. However, newly unemployed Amber visits his gallery and Jake sees his 2nd chance and offers her a job. They get closer and end up in a steamy, passionate relationship. However, Jake is harbouring secrets and the reader is aware that dramatic events and tension points will follow that may even be dangerous. We’ll have to wait for the subsequent episodes to find out how the storyline will develop and what will be the fate of the protagonists. This is a well-written story with good penmanship with a storyline that contains a gamut of emotions, passionate love, secrets and mystery. I am very much looking forward to the following episodes. I have read 2 other works by this author, I like her writing style and I happily recommend this book.

Jake is a wealthy self made man who is opening an art gallery. Amber is living with her Aunt after her parents had left to go travelling years ago. Amber is out with her BFF when Jake asks her where he's seen her before? ... great pick up line. He leaves her his card and asks her to call and they'll have coffee together and figure out how he knows her ... smooth! She doesn't phone but on the day she's let go from her job Amber visits the gallery to cheer herself up, Jake spots her, gives her a tour and asks her out to dinner. While talking it comes up that Amber is now unemployed, Jake offers her a job to stand in for his pregnant PA's maternity leave. The more they work together the closer they get until they end up in a passionate relationship, but things are going to get very rocky and dangerous. This ends on a cliff hanger and is part of a trilogy.

This is the 1st in a new series and is Jake and Amber’s story. Amber is lonely and seeking direction in her life after being abandoned by her globetrotting parents when they leave her with an aunt. When Amber and the wealthy Jake cross paths, he hands her his business card, and when she is fired from her job she wanders into his art gallery, and he offers her a job. These two are drawn to each other with the chemistry between them intense, and Amber believes that she has met his soulmate, however, Jake is harbouring secrets. This is a well writer story which is fun, and with emotions, surprises, mystery, secrets, passion, and love, as well as having unresolved issues which need answers. I look forward to reading the next book in this amazing series, and I highly recommend this talented authors’ work.
4.5/5 Stars - This book has crazy chickens, mad hens and greedy birds flying all over the place!!! It's drama on steroids and poor Amber and Jake are caught in the middle of all of it. Reading the prequel explained a few things, but the beginning of this book got confusing when they changed from one age to the next without any type of noted transition. One of the angry birds can't let go of Jake and another is plotting on Amber. A note to the too friendly man at the corner store...STOP GIVING OUT DIRECTIONS TO EVERYBODY THAT ASKS!!! On to Book 2 to find out how these two love birds will get out of this!!

Avery North’s first book in her new series, ‘Fight For Love’, is setting the charts aflame. There’s mystery, suspense, sorrow, happiness and romance in most every chapter. Jake and Amber, the main characters, has the old romantic beginning. Boy sees girl across a crowded room and goes over and says, “Haven’t I met you somewhere before?” Really?!? That is such an old pick up line. But Jake had a good memory for faces and thought he had seen her before. Jake an Amber have a lot in common. Unfortunately, one of the sad things is that both their mothers don’t have much to do with them. You wouldn’t want to miss reading this story, so amazing you can’t put it down. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
Avery North knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and with this first book of the series will keep you guessing. Amber has been left with her Aunt, after her parents decided to travel. Now an adult she is wanting to make it on her own. Jake might have money, but it has not always been that way. With a streak of good fortune and hard work, Jake has made his way, but did not forget his past.
A chance meeting, a hint of familiarity, good conversation and fate brings Amber and Jake together, but when tragedy strikes secrets and lie come out as well as greed.
This book will pull you in and leave you wanting more.

Amber and Jake start off this new series of six books with the meeting at the bar. The next day she loses her job at the paper due to downsizing and goes to the art gallery to cheer herself up. Finding Jake there, they start to talk, have dinner and he offers her the job of his assistant. It is a really good start to their relationship and it gets a little steamy, too. The characters have great backstories, like her aunt and parents. The storyline is simple for now but I am sure it will be quite the roller coaster before it is all done in book six. Can not wait to see what is in the stars for these two.

First of all if you have not read the prequel to this book you should take the time to read it. There should be a link in the beginning of Flame for the prequel. Flame is the exciting start to Avery North's new series. In this book we meet Amber who still lives at home with her "aunt". But a change of fortune is about to happen for her and she meets James a bachelor millionaire. I enjoyed both the prequel and this book. I cannot wait to read the next book and if the end of this one is anything to go on I am going to want to read them all as soon as possible.

Jake is the owner of The Charles McCarthy Gallery. Thirty-two years old, top ten richest man and powerful bachelor. He hasn't met a woman he wants to settle down with but really wants to. His assistant is going on maternity leave and he needs to find her replacement pronto.
Amber was twelve when her parents gave her to her aunt to raise so they could continue to travel the world. Her boyfriend broke up with her through email and she lost her job. Now she needs to find another job so she can move out of her aunt's place.
This has surprise secrets, threats, unexpected events and a cliffhanger that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Oh my goodness!!! I really enjoyed reading, Flame : Fight For Love Series Book 1 by Avery North because it got me hook, line and sinker. Jake and Amber are off the charts with their steam and passion and relationship. But there are others factors that are in the works to destroy their relationship. Wow! I am anticipating to see how the next part of this story will go. I am waiting with baited breath. I would highly recommend reading this story. It is so good and intense and there are so many questions as to what will happen next.

Flame is the first book in the Fight For Love Series which features Amber Paige, a newly unemployed college student living with her aunt Corrine, and Jake McCarthy, a wealthy gallery owner and businessman who employs Amber at his gallery. They have steamy chemistry for each other. Amber finds she is to inherit a major sum of money and if something happens to her aunt Corrine will inherit everything. This book has well developed characters and a storyline with misunderstandings, secrets, family jealousy with possible lethal intentions, and a cliffhanger. The next book in the series is Unbound.

I read the prequel before reading Flame - Book 1 of Fight For Love, and would recommend that for all readers. This is my first read by this author. While I enjoyed the suspenseful nature of the book, I would have preferred more depth to the characters, including the development of their relationship. As it ended on a cliffhanger, I would definitely be interested in reading the next in the series, but overall would prefer the entire story in one book, rather than split up into 6 books (plus prequel).

Ok so I didn't get the prequel but I am going to look for it...has for Jake and Amber's story...I am a little ambiguous right now and confused, I must read the Prequel and book 2 at least before I form a definitive opinion. Has always with Avery North the story is very well written and the characters plus the world building are just awesome...so for now I am enjoying it let's just see if I start to love it.

Jake and Amber both have the same issues with their parents, but Ambers parents left her with someone else as they went to travel the world. Ambers story is how she dealt with this. Jake lost his dad young and was left with a mother that didn’t really care for him, his story is how his challenges set him up for life.
Their lives mix in a chance meeting in a cafe and the story commences and what a cliff hanger to finish on

I love every new and exciting series by Avery North which I call "Goldilocks Stories": not too long, not too short, they are just the right content of everything! In this first book in the Fight or Love Series, we get the story of Amber and Jake who meet and find instant attraction with each other and quickly move from a "chance encounter" to a working relationship into a love connection. There are many surprises and twists along the way that will keep you invested in this instant love story.

Jake opened an art gallery and needed help. Amber was down on her luck, just been fired and went to the art gallery as a distraction meeting Jake. This was sweet, romantic and dramatic. The story starts off slowly but certainly picks up pace as the drama and intrigue unfolds leading to a spell binding cliff hanger. Can't wait for the next in series to see what unfolds.
