I thought that this book was very good. It is about a girl who goes off to camp for a long time and thinks that she will hate it. When she gets there, nobody is friendly and she has to work very hard each day to complete the trail. There is a girl who's name is Amanda and she is very mean to Skye. Then Skye finds out that something is bothering Amanda. The trails keep getting harder and harder and Skye doesn't know if she will be able to make it. This book is very interesting.
This was better than I thought it would be. I like Skye's character, I thought the others were good as well. I really liked that the story is based around an activity that I haven't read in a book. It's unique and that's what gave it its charm.
1. Genre Young Adult 2. Award none that I’m aware of 3. Star Rating 4 4. Grade level (s) 5th-7th 5. Evaluation: This book is a very cute tale about an 11 year old girl name Skye who is going away for three weeks to an Adventure camp where they will spend their time bicycling around an huge island. Though homesick, Skye find two new friends, her first crush, and her first enemy who torments her relentlessly during this trip, however, by the end endurance of the trip has also helped them mature in character. This is a great book for silent reading, or it can be assigned as class reading to give the students inspiration to do something worthwhile during their summers. For a read aloud I would probably used page 120-122, where one of camp counselors is inspiring Skye to continue biking up this really long hill after a hard day of riding by visually a place she truly loves. By the time she is done, they have reached the top and she has persevered. 6. Description of the ending: This is a semi-closed ending. While most issues are resolved by the end, the boy she has a crush on, Mason, puts a note in her backpack that she doesn’t find until she already home. The note basically says she’s the coolest girl he’s ever known, so it leaves us wonder if they ever write or meet up again.
