This book is very wide-ranging, and probably could have done with more focus. There are sections on trying to pursue a flexible work schedule (not helpful if you’re already in that situation), sections on managing a flexible work FORCE as a manager, and sections on very specific topics like giving a presentation with a part remote and part in-office audience. A few of the articles had some interesting points, but I’d say half the book is probably useless for any given person’s situation at any time.
I don't think this should be in the HBR category. Most of the articles are not from HBR and the quality was pretty low :( A lot of it is pretty obvious (some people like to work from home, some from the office. it's easier to collaborate in person, it's easier to do some focus work from home). I was hoping for something better, I think if you read some random articles online you got most of the content of this book.
Some useful advice can be picked up from this. But it is a collection of essays that lacks structure and coherence. Not that the essays are not good. It is just a tough read. Perhaps better to browse though it and get some inspiration here and there?
