Who likes twists?💁‍♀️ Well…here’s the mother-lode!

There’s been a multitude of ‘twin’ books published in the past year or so. And yes, I’ve read many of them. But there was something unique about this one that truly drew me in.

WOW! This unassuming debut thriller turned out to be one fabulously twisty read! I had more than one moment where I needed to stop and retrieve my jaw from the floor! Thoroughly gob-smacked!

Megan and Leah are identical twins. When they were younger no one could tell them apart. But years later, is that still the case?

The twins have long been estranged. Megan, trapped in a loveless and abusive marriage. While Leah reaps the profits from pushing her sister aside and publishing a best-selling book about their lives as twins. Not nice!

Eventually, the two sisters agree to meet in a remote cabin. At the end of their little get-together, only one will walk away. But which one?

But as Covid hits and lockdown strikes, (don’t worry it’s a brief backdrop) will the surviving twin get away with cold-blooded murder?

⚠️ Be careful reading the publisher’s blurb. Going in as blind as possible will give you the best experience.

This was a debut for a very talented new author. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!

To describe Megan’s husband Chris’s standards as exacting is an understatement and he’s most certainly messing with her head. Megan has plenty of baggage as her delightful husband never ceases to remind her. It’s fair to describe her life growing up as dysfunctional and as for her relationship with her twin Leah, it’s very twisted sister. Megan has had enough and decides to confront Leah and it sure is one heck of a confrontation and Megan needs a perfect plan for her perfect twin.

‘Perfect’ is being used with frequency in titles some of which are imperfect, NOT this one! This is just a bit different, it’s a clever psychological thriller that is well written and keeps you constantly in your toes. It’s certainly an exercise in dysfunction, the deliciously dark and devious kind with dastardly discoveries and deepening despair but with devilish developments! I especially like the dark humour which pops up greatly adding to the entertainment value. There are some jaw dropping plot turns that are far from predictable which actually blow your mind keeping you transfixed on the pages. You have no idea who is messing with who but trust me it’s a very juicy game on! Payback really is a (insert as appropriate) bit of a thing! There’s suspense and tension by the truckload. Lockdown of March 2020 is used very cleverly but I hasten to add this is not a Covid story - definitely not. It’s woven into the fabric of the story with its chaos and uncertainty perfectly matching the chaos of ?? whose ?? world, I’m not saying!!! The characterisation is excellent, they’re far from likeable but that’s what makes this such a tasty book! Am I convinced the plot is possible? Do I care? I’m far too engrossed to be remotely bothered!

Overall, what a debut! If you like a jump on a rollercoaster read with as many loop the loops as possible then climb on board this one!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hodder and Stoughton for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

A twisty thriller full of jealousy, revenge and hate

Identical twin sisters,
A cheating husband,
A murder,
Lockdown

Can they get away with it?

Any book with perfect in the title means the subjects are anything but that, and the characters in Her Perfect Twin are no exception!

Sarah Bonner's debut was good, and well paced. I enjoyed the start, which really hooked me in, and there certainly were some jaw dropping twists! It was an intense, rollercoaster of a book filled with drama and conflict. The author did well at ramping up my anxiety, and also depicted those early days of Covid19 well.

Although I enjoyed this psychological thriller, I am in the minority though, it didn't blow me away, and I didn't completely love it. This was due to a few reasons:
• I didn't actually like ANY of the characters.
• I hated the change of POV in the second part of the book. It really jarred me, and although I'm aware it was probably meant to stir up feelings of anger and disgust, I detested the abuse, gaslighting and hateful, toxic relationships.
• I thought I was ready for another book set in the times of Covid and lockdown, but I really wasn't!
• The story was pretty implausible and unbelievable at times, with a few plot holes.

The ending did make me say wait whaaat?! And some of the twists shocked me!

It was a solid debut, and I would recommend if you are looking for a dark, twisted, yet easy read. Just don't look or think too hard about the plot! Many others have really enjoyed it!

Many thanks to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley UK for the private invitation to read this ARC, in exchange for an honest review, I really do appreciate it!

Oh gosh I’m sorry to give a 1 star. Please do note that I am definitely in the minority and a lot of other people did enjoy this one!!

~ Quick Summary ~

Megan murders her twin sister where she then lives a double life as a socialite Instagram influencer and wife. What could go wrong?

~ Pick this up if you enjoy/don’t mind ~

🩹Trigger warning: gaslighting and mentions of COVID

🤼 Unlikeable characters

🥨 Twists

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Domestic thriller/drama

~ What I enjoyed ~

I love the premise, I’m always on the hunt for something crazy so this really piqued my curiosity!

The pace was not bad and I love it when there are small reveals or twists throughout the book.

~ What I didn’t enjoy ~

The first half where Megan tried to lead a double life felt more like a soapy, superficial drama and it was uneventful. There was no suspense or excitement, I never felt like she was at any risk of being exposed or had much trouble taking on a different persona. She really carried on like she didn’t just kill her sister.

After the lockdown happened, the next section of the book was so frustrating to read because it was nothing but gas-lighting, it was quite horrible. Although the twists were actually ok, it was overshadowed because the characters were so unlikeable and I wasn’t enjoying this book at all. Then during the last quarter we were in the POV of some new characters investigating the case, by which point I was just skimming through to get to the end.

I don’t know why this part stood out like a sore thumb to me: “He slapped me hard across the face” but then there was no mention of her shock or the pain, she actually answered him back and continued the conversation like she didn’t get slapped.

Thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book started with a bang until it exploded with the first, second and third twist. I read this whenever I had time, not wanting to miss a single second. The book was clever and original, and I enjoyed every page. Brilliant move to let us see the story unfold from different POVS, right up my alley. If the author publishes more books, I’ll be the first to order them.

Bait and switch

4.5 stars rounded up.

Despite temporarily swearing off books with the word “perfect” in the title this one managed to find its way onto my arc shelf. And I’m so glad it did, it was an impressive story.

Megan Hardcastle has been married to Christopher for around four years. Initially charming and sweet, Chris seems to be becoming more controlling and harsh. Both of them travel extensively with their jobs so at least they are not constantly together but Megan is starting to feel uncomfortable around Chris and he is constantly gaslighting her. Then she finds a photo of herself on the marital bed in electric blue lingerie. But Megan doesn’t have any blue lingerie, nevertheless she still checks. But no. So obviously its her twin sister Leah.

Megan and Leah might look identical but they are very different people. Leah uses and discards others like tissues. She has taken pretty much everything that Megan ever valued. She has made a fortune by selling THEIR story that Megan did most of the writing of. There is no love lost between them. She goes to Leah’s place to confront her and an argument ends in murder. One bang on the head was all it took for Megan to accidentally kill her sister. Not a spoiler, it’s in the blurb and happens early in the book. But what to do? Megan stuffs Leah into a freezer until she can work things out.

But then the realisation dawns - what if she could make out that she, Megan, was dead and she picked up Leah’s life with all that lovely money and no husband? This is when it starts to get interesting. With echoes of Gone Girl, part 2 of the story is told from Chris’s POV and he knows much more about what Megan has been doing than she thinks. Chris is a thoroughly nasty, scheming piece of work but he is also very clever and crafty.

It’s very cat and mouse from then on and you are never sure which one is going to win the battle of wits. Every time you think it’s a slam dunk another twist stops you in your tracks. None of the characters are very likeable but, bloody h*ll it’s a great story. This deliciously dark and twisted tale kept me thoroughly entertained from the first page to the last. Many thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner

Holy crap this was seriously messed up and an absolute cracking debut.

This psychological domestic thriller had me quickly turning the pages and not wanting to put it down. From the first few pages you know you’re in for a fast and thrilling ride.

I love a story plot with twins, don’t ask why and this didn’t disappoint. Megan and Leah are identical twins but they’re nothing alike in character or close.

The plot is clever and twisty and involves murder, an Instagram Influencer, abuse, toxic relationships and deception. Part of the story is also set in lockdown but it’s definitely not a COVID story.

I’m not going to give much else away but it also features one of the most devious, cheating and evil characters that I truly despised!

This is a book not to miss! I can’t wait for the next story we see from Sarah Bonner!

Brilliant!

I heard about this book and knew that I had to read it. Big thank you to my friend Debbie for sending me this for my birthday. I dove straight in and read it in less than a day. Completely hooked from the very start, I had to know where it was going.

And wow.. the twists and turns in this story will give you whiplash 😅 Everytime I thought I knew what was happening it would surprise me again. Sarah Bonner, fantastic job.

Identical twins, an abusive husband, an Instagram influencer, a murder and a Covid lockdown. That is all you need to know, you have to read this for yourself. Trust me, you will not be sorry.

Easily 5 stars and a favourite for the year so far.

Great attention grabber!

Megan is a married woman in her twenties. Her husband is abusive. She is estranged from her sister who is her twin. Her sister Leah has taken everything from her for as long as Megan can remember.

Then Megan discovers Leah's latest betrayal and she loses it. Taking Leah's place may not be the easiest thing, especially during a pandemic lockdown, and if someone knows what she did!

From the very beginning, I was engrossed with this novel. I am one of those readers who enjoys thrillers where twins are the main characters. This one didn't disappoint me. There were multiple times I was shocked by the twists although, I guessed the last one. Several narrators brought to life these interesting characters of a solid debut novel.

My first thoughts after receiving this book for review was another book about twins...I mean how different can it be? I opened the book, started reading and a few hours later finished the book because Holy Cow there's no way to stop the free fall once you head down this rabbit hole! Her Perfect Twin is . . . perfect. Don't hesitate to grab this book and dive in. I promise you it's original, cleverly written and guaranteed to keep readers guessing until the last phenomenal shocker on the final page.

Megan and Chris Hardcastle have been married about four years when she discovers pictures on his phone of someone who's the mirror image of her, lying across their bed wearing scanty, sexy lingerie. But wait a minute . . . she doesn't own said lingerie, and she certainly didn't pose for this semi-naked, come hither photograph. There's only one possibility . . . the photo is of her identical twin sister Leah. The thought of her estranged twin sleeping with her husband in their marital bed enrages Megan. She hasn't spoken to Leah since she sold a book they started writing together as her own, cheating Megan out of any of the accolades and proceeds. The sale of the book made Leah independently wealthy and an Instagram Superstar. Since birth, Leah has taken glee in torturing Megan by stealing anything or anyone Megan showed an interest in so she's not surprised Leah would betray her this way. To Megan's knowledge, Chris has never met her sister and yet her gut's telling her he's deceived her in the worse possible way. Truth be known, Megan fears Chris's violent mood swings so rather than confront him, she decides it's time to have a heart-to-heart with her estranged sister. The aftershocks of their meeting forever changes their lives and is the catalyst that drives the rest of this crazy, twisted, no bathroom breaks thriller.

While Her Perfect Twin relies heavily on the identical twin factor, it's done so in a completely atypical manner. The story follows anti-hero Megan as she attempts to find a solution to the chaos she finds herself in by juggling two lives - hers and her dead sister's. If she plays her cards right, she just might come out of this without being charged with murder and free of her lying, cheating, manipulative husband. The answer is pretty obvious - one of the twins has to disappear permanently, and she'll play the role of the surviving twin until death do her part. Which sister should she claim to be? Just when Megan thinks she has it figured out, the covid pandemic hits and she's locked down with Chris. Let the games begin!

Her Perfect Twin unfolds through multiple narrators albeit primarily Megan's point of view in the first half. Later, readers are also privy to Leah and Chris's version of this sordid tale right up to the final part where an attorney's view point brings the story home. It's extremely difficult to relay how twisted this story is without spoilers and that's why I won't reference any more of the plot line. Go into this one blind, and I think you'll find yourself surprised and highly entertained.

Sarah Bonner has killed it with her debut novel, showcasing her fantastic skill at characterizations and voice. These characters are seriously flawed with questionable motives and yet as a reader, I couldn't get enough. The dialogue is sharp and on point, the plot line insane, and yet this author not only makes it work, she blows it out of the water. Time and time again, I found myself gasping at this or that jaw-dropping disclosure. While Her Perfect Twin is character driven, the brilliant manner in which Bonner drives the plot line with unforeseeable twists and turns kept the entire reading experience off-kilter just enough to keep me guessing. And then there's the ending. I love ambiguous endings where the author seemingly leaves readers with a piece of the puzzle missing and charges them to come play . . . figure it out. I will say, if you think the ending abruptly comes out of left field, do as I did and go back and reread the earliest part of this story. You'll find a trail of story crumbs with foreshadowing that leads readers right to this stellar ending.

Her Perfect Twin is an intense psychological thriller that's highly original and atmospheric. It addresses issues such as toxic relationships, sibling rivalries, mental and physical abuse, manipulation and deception. It's the second book I've read set during the pandemic, and I'm happy to say the author uses it as a tool to manipulate the plot and characters but never allows it to overwhelm the story. Congratulations, Sarah Bonner! You deserve a standing ovation. Her Perfect Twin is a stunning, rare gem in the pool of debut novels. A 2022 Favorite. Highly recommended to fans of suspense and psychological thrillers and readers who love a good twist. You don't want to miss this one!

Thank you to Hatchette for sending me this book for review.

Congratulations on a fantastic debut book. I hope you write many more books ! This book is based upon the twins relationship which involves alot of jealousy. The author took me on a journey from the first page and it didnt let up the whole way through. I connected with all the characters even wanted to slap and yell at some of them. So many topics involved in this book such as jealousy, revenge, cheating, love... . The pace was intense and didnt slow down at all. The main character is Megan but we do see chapters narrated by her twin Leah and her husband Chris. Sarah throws some curveballs towards the end which have you gasping. I love it when an author leaves you on a cliff hanger at the end of each chapter so you cant stop reading. You are a great storyteller Sarah.

I find a lot of psychological thrillers to be a bit samey samey, which when it comes to basic premise isn't a problem. After all there are only so many ways to do this. Execution is key to rising above the crowd and thats where Sarah Bonner has come into her own here in my opinion.

Yes its Twins. Yes its a husband who isn't terribly lovely. But the characterisation here is beautifully done and the story is as twisty and compelling as you would want from this genre. It isn't at all obvious where everyone will end up and the twin element, often now a cliche, is handled refreshingly with more than surface level depth to it. I was hook line and sinkered and enjoyed it very much.

A kind of twisted Freaky Friday. Recommended.

Really good all the way up until the end, I assumed this would be a five star read for me but the very end was a little weak for me. Overall I still recommend though as a popcorn, brain candy kind of thriller. Don’t question the plausibility too much though and just go along for the wild ride.

If Sarah Bonner’s debut, Her Perfect Twin, is an indication of how 2022 is gonna go debuts wise, I can say without fear of being wrong that it’s gonna be awesome.

Megan and Leah are twins, stranged twins after Leah published a book airing all their family’s dirty laundry. When Megan finds a photo of her sister in her husband’s phone she goes to confront her but…oops, she ends up killing her! (just a sisterly little fight!). Can she get away with murder posing as her dead twin? It looks like she will until lockdown hits (yeah, COVID f*cking everyone’s plans once again!).

I was absolutely mesmerized with this story. Could it be cause I’m a twin myself? A not murderous twin, by the way. Yeah, Megan might have killed her sister but I found her character really sympathetic. I just wanted things to go her way. When you think you know what direction the story is going lockdown comes and all her carefully laid plans go to sh*t and that’s when the real fun began (well, not for her! Poor Megan!).

Her Perfect Twin had one of the most despicable characters I’ve read lately that awoke my killing instincts so bad!

The tension kept ratcheting up with several OMG!, WHAAATT??!!, HOLY SH*T! moments that led to a really satisfying scene during which I actually clapped my hands.

The last thirds made my anxiety go through the roof in a final battle of wits that wasn’t solved until the last page.

Her Perfect Twin is a fantastic psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story. After this amazing debut, I am truly excited to find out what the author has in store for us next. It may be only January, but Her Perfect Twin is already a strong contender to enter my 2022 top ten list.

WOOOOO! Firstly I need to ask is this really a DEBUT novel? Because it is SUPERB.

Last month Her Perfect Twin was reduced to 99p on Amazon Kindle so I picked it to read with my online bookclub TBC for the month of April to buddy read and discuss online. At last, I’ve picked a real winner (the last few books have been rather disappointing) and I started the book two nights ago and by the end of thre first chapter I was punching the air with joy because this little hidden gem hits every single one of my personal 5 star requirements.

Twins ✔
Unreliable Narrators ✔
Multiple Points of View ✔
OMG moments where you literally shout WTF ✔
Murder ✔
Red Herrings and Surprises ✔
Batshit Crazy Characters ✔
Plot twists you do not see coming ✔

So now I need to tell you more about the book. Her Perfect Twin is the story of identical twins Megan and Leah. Megan is married to Chris, a handsome, successful man who is also a coercive, controlling and gaslighting bully. Leah is single, wealthy, a best selling author and an instagram influencer with millions of followers. The twins have always had a fractured relationship, falling out over Leah’s book and haven’t spoken in years so when Leah finds a semi-naked photograph of her twin on her husband’s phone Megan decides to confront her.

The story is divided into parts, each narrated by Megan, Leah and Chris and at the end of each part I was left gasping in disbelief at the shocking revelations and couldn’t put the book down, taking the opportunity to read it whenever I had a spare moment.

All I can say is this is a brilliant debut which is skillfully plotted and cleverly constructed and guaranteed to keep the reader totally engrossed and gripped from the opening chapter to the final page.

I personally absolutely LOVED this book and have absolutely no hesitation in giving it 5 HUGE stars.

A book that made fellow psychological thriller author Samantha Downing’s jaw drop, Her Perfect Twin is the first novel from accountant turned writer Sarah Bonner. This new novelist has produced a story that is bingeworthy, twisty, convoluted and current. I was drawn into Her Perfect Twin from the very beginning, right through to the final moments of this addictive tale.

This is the story of twin sisters Megan and Leah. These identical twins have been estranged, but the shock discovery of Leah’s photo on Megan’s husband’s phone raises more questions than answers. Megan knows the Leah has the world on her plate, she has achieved great success, notoriety, wealth and status. When Megan faces off against her twin over the photograph, the consequences are deadly. Megan knows she has to kill off her sister in order to protect herself and she hatches a plan to carry the identity of herself and her sister. However, acting as herself and her twin sister isn’t as easy as she first thought. When Megan is confronted with the daily complications of a stressful COVID-19 lockdown life, she knows she will be discovered. In this twisty tale of redemption, vengeance and integrity will Megan be exposed?

Her Perfect Twin has been doing the rounds on Instagram, a platform that I regularly use to direct my reading choices. I purchased this one based on the popularity and highly rated reviews Her Perfect Twin has been receiving since it was released at the start of 2022. I’m glad I listened to the Instagram community as I very much enjoyed Sarah Bonner’s debut.

Twin stories continue to fascinate me and I always gravitate towards books, films and television series that feature an identical twin dynamic. In fact, one of my favourite television shows was a series released back in 2011 called Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role as two sisters. Her Perfect Twin reminded me of this great series, it is a shame that it was cancelled after just one season. Television memories aside, Her Perfect Twin was a book that captured the relationship between identical twin sisters well. An extremely estranged and mixed-up sisterly connection directs this novel from the beginning and this is carried through right to the closing moments of this warped tale. A book that is quite slow to start with plenty of foreshadowing happening in the initial sequences of the novel, Her Perfect Twin eventually deviates off into falsehoods, deception, underhanded deeds, secrets, betrayals, tricks, traps and murderous intentions. With many unexpected twists, tangled moments and hooked turns, the scene is set for a tension filled tale. With the added layer of an early Covid-19 lockdown backdrop, Her Perfect Twin really turns on the psychological aspects of this dysfunctional twin relationship.

Forgive me if my review for Her Perfect Twin lacks the depth of examination that I usually devote to the books I share with you. However, I fear that if I divulge too much more, I may spoil the story for any potential readers out there. I was impressed by this debut and I’m very keen to see what Sarah Bonner comes up with next.

Her Perfect Twin by Sarah Bonner is one of the most fast paced and compulsively readable books that I have read in quite some time, and I am very impressed that it is a debut novel! I love a good twin story, and there were some excellent jaw-dropping twists to this one. I actually did figure out the end, but Bonner still had me doubting myself up until the very final reveal. Usually guessing twists brings a book's rating down for me but in this case, there was no way that was going to happen. The writing and plotline were gripping, and it was REALLY had to put this down so I could go to bed. The story is broken into parts and has 3 different viewpoints, and honestly, that just made it even more bingeworthy.

I bought a copy of the book, but of course, I still waited for an age so I could get the audiobook from the library, and it was totally worth it. Daphne Kouma, David Morley Hale & George Weightman narrate, and I just don’t believe I would have had the same experience with the characters if I had read it instead. They were excellent for the story and the people in it, and I loved every single minute I spent listening to them. Despite guessing one of the twists there was still so much along the way that I didn’t see coming, and Her Perfect Twin had a wonderful quality that I loved but can’t name because of spoilers. I highly recommend going into this as BLIND AS POSSIBLE, so you don’t have any of the twists given away before you even read it. This was a truly devious and delicious read that you will not regret picking up!

A book that will leave you thinking, I am not sure if what I have just read is genius, or not, and am still not 100% sure I have the ending right, the rather abrupt ending it has to be said but I have read the last paragraph a few times and think I have 🤗
A tale of twins, one heinous and one as wet as a monsoon ( although more likeable than the other one) and Chris who not only is a psychopath but leery and pompous with it, there is not one redeming feature about him, not one chink of humanity, I detested him and felt angry at his character, so the author did a great job with writing him
Its a tale of deception, twin rivalry, hatred and being wrong footed, that includes the reader as it does get a bit complicated and you have to stand back at times and just think who is who and who has done what to who
It has some fast paced shocks and suddenly you are in Part 2 and onto the next bit
Imo an unneeded ending part about the solicitor, we had already had enough nasty characters without another being introduced so late on
Quite like the way the narration would speak to you ie ‘well what did you think I would do’, I found myself answering
There is a lot to talk about re this book and would be ideal for a book club read and I daresay a Netflix series would be superb too
Even after writing this I am still not sure if it was genius or not but it certainly has me thinking even though am still uncertain the whole thing didn’t go beyond reasonable doubt of feasibility for a story
I would recommend trying it

I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next in this fabulous page-turner from Sarah Bonner.

Just when I thought I had it all sussed, I found that I’d been led straight up another wrong garden path; littered with a multitude of twists, turns and red herrings.

Well-written, with realistic dialogue and well-drawn characters. This is the first book I’ve read which mentions the Covid-19 pandemic; although it’s not something I particularly want to read about, it does fit perfectly in the story and really heightens the claustrophobic atmosphere.

A wonderful debut novel!

All twin books are not created equal.

And this masterfully orchestrated rollercoaster tale of twin revenge and rivalry is NOT your "typical" twin book.

What happens when a twin discovers photographs of her estranged identical twin sister on her husband’s phone?

The story unfolds from multiple points of view and the first portion of the book was very, very slow-burn and borderline repetitive.

Quite frankly, the book did not start to "move" until the twin's husband's POV was revealed midway through the storyline.

I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the twin's husband's attorney's POV.

The book's ending was jaw-dropping and gasp-worthy.

The audiobook was full-cast(my favorite!) and all of the narrators did a superb job.

This was an over-the-top debut by author Sarah Bonner and I look forward to reading future titles by this talented author.

4.5 stars rounded up.

I can't get on with this one I'm afraid - everyone is just too awful that it's too painful for me to endure.

Audible won't refund me as I bought this through a kindle deal so will just suck it up and say no thank you!

I think this one has good ratings so please give it a try if you don't mind hateful human beings hiding behind their social media facade and being so awful you want to scream into a pillow and ask what the hell is the world coming to?!
No rating from me as I don't rate books I haven't read fully.

Much better reviews are available 😉

A few trigger warnings to start. Gaslighting, domestic abuse, violence, covid used for plot. You get a first person POV of a psychopath, and the things he says and does are menacing.

The story is almost Machiavellian in its cleverness. Megan confronts her twin sister after finding photos of her on her husband’s phone, but the confrontation soon turns to murder. The only way Megan can get away with killing her twin is by becoming her. Except then lockdown hits and leading two lives becomes a little dangerous. The first half is told from Megan's point of view, and much of the second from her husband's, and throughout we have no idea who will win, while rooting for Megan when all seems a lost cause.

Pacey, compelling, disturbing and sinister.

3.5 stars.

"Her Perfect Twin" is a debut novel by Sarah Bonner and it's devious! We have two identical twins Meghan and Leigh who are not on speaking terms and we soon find out why. Poor Meghan got screwed over by Leigh in the past and it has led to Leigh having fame and fortune while Meghan drawing the short straw and having a asswipe of a husband. Who apparantly is cheating on her with her sister as she finds photos of a woman on his phone in a compromising position which looks exactly like her. Except she has no clue of taking that picture. It has to be her sister?

So when she confronts her sister they start to argue and.... She accidently kills her. Whoops! Anarchy and Chaos soon show up as she has to become her sister to get away with murder.

Good: Twists galore and hateful characters. Mr. Rodgers does not make a appearance in this one as mostly everyone is on the naughty list. Especially Chris: Meghan's dooshbag husband. It was fun having Meghan become Leight and having to blend in inside a new environment.

Bad: The obvious comparison when reading the book it is a slight ripoff of "Gone Girl" in it's format. The first half is told of the POV of Meghan and it suddenly switches to Chris towards the middle and we soon find out things aren't the way they seem. Also the dialouge is somewhat clunky.... It doesn't flow organically in places and the characters just don't sound like they suppose to. Ackward?

Overall its above average and if the synopsis grabs your attention it's worth the read.

Well, that was a whirlwind of a book! Each part is in a different POV and the reader is given insight into different perspectives. Everything you think you know is probably wrong with this one. Toward the end, I really didn’t know where the author would go with the story. I thoroughly enjoyed the theme of a twin living a double life and then all the manipulation and deception. It made for a very interesting book! The audio was excellent, and the three narrators gave an excellent performance! I’m giving this one 4.5 out of 5 stars, rounding up to 5 on goodreads.

A huge thank you to Hachette Audio for providing me with this gifted audio in exchange for my honest review.

Holy cow! At first I’m thinking oh another twin trope, but omg this one is so fresh & unexpected! Megan (Patterson) Hardcastle thinks she’s losing her mind when she comes across naughty photos of her twin sister, Leah, on her husband’s phone! Identical twins Leah and Megan are each other’s worse enemy, so when Megan confronts Leah they fight and one dies! Her Perfect Twin is a wonderful debut, it’s twisty, a page turner, and suspenseful! Thank you to NetGalley, author, and publisher for a gifted copy!

Where oh where has Sarah Bonner the author been hiding? I just read her latest twisty thriller and wow, what a book!!! This is her debut novel and let me just say, it was fabulous!!!! Twist after twist - each chapter left me gasping what the heck??! This is about identical twin sisters Megan and Leah and it is written during the lockdown of Covid that we all experienced. Jealousy, greed, abuse, deception, and murder! You don’t know what’s coming next — it’s just so good!! Looking forward to Sarah’s next book!! This will be in my Top 10 this year for sure!!

Most definitely a crazy, twisty path filled with deception and gaslighting. The story kept doing a 180 on me. I was glued the whole time. A few things I either thought were hard to believe and a couple dark moments I don’t care for but overall a captivating deranged read.

Release date 20th January 2022 Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and Sarah Bonner for the digital advanced copy of her perfect win in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

The perfect twin follows Megan after she finds herself in a predicament she has just killed her identical twin, the only way she thinks she will getaway with murder is if she becomes Leah as well as Megan. With the marriage she’s in not a happy one and with her commuting to work each week it’s easier then she originally thanks. The question is will she getaway with imitating her twin or more importantly can getaway with murder?

I absolutely loved this book! I didn’t have a clue what it was about when I picked it up so was utterly surprised when Megan kills Leah, now I only include that in the review because it is on the blurb for the book so technically no spoilers! What I find so compelling about this book as I really had no idea where it was going any which way I started to question whether Megan even was a twin at one point because I know that was a saucy twist of another twin book I had read last year.

Megan is our lead protagonist and what I really enjoy about this book it’s told to us in first person but it’s also told to us as if someone is talking directly to you. I absolutely love it when author really brings me into the story an I feel like I’m a part of a little secret conversation. The writing in general was done so well and very distinctive between characters, but I won’t say more about that. Megan is a woman in a bad situation espically regarding her relationship with her sister and husband . It is absolutely no wonder why Megan sees Leah’s life as an escape and the answer to her problems, or is it!

The book is set in four parts and this really adds to the drama of the book, again without saying any spoilers all I will say is be prepared be very prepared to have a WTF moment because believe me I literally read one paragraph like five times in complete disbelief. So yeah if you find that the book is a bit of a slow burner which at times it can be power through coz I promise you it’s worth it.

In general as a psychological thriller I think that her perfect twin is bang on the money! It is well written coma has you thinking so many different theories at once, I find myself on edge throughout the entire book and in general it was a blew my mind!

Would I recommend her perfect twin? Yes I would I find it to be so enjoyable and honestly with all the twists and turns I truly didn’t know what I thought anymore when it came to the book outcome but I loved it either way. I happily rate this five stars, her perfect twin is a fantastic debut novel by Sarah Bonner and i highly recommend can’t wait for the books to follow.
