This two-book collection begins the Shadows Landing series by Kathleen Brooks. Romance, danger, and a bit of comedy fill each book set in the small town of Shadows Landing.
Saving Shadows Gavin Faulkner was the only doctor in the small South Carolina inner coastal town of Shadows Landing. He was used to patching up everything from fishing lures stuck in skin to gator bites. Nothing could surprise him anymore—except when he found an unconscious woman partially submerged near his dock after a fierce thunderstorm.
Ellery St. John’s last memory was of a bat swinging toward her head. The next thing she knew, she was cold, wet, and a sexy man was pressing his lips to hers. Too bad it turned out to be CPR instead of a passionate kiss.
Gavin thought Ellery would be safe in the small town where BBQ wars were the biggest danger, but he was wrong. Now it was up to him to help Ellery put the pieces together in order to discover who had tried to kill her and why before they both ended up at the bottom of the ocean.
Sunken Shadows As a rescue swimmer for the Coast Guard, Wade Faulkner was used to unpredictable situations. But an emergency call late one night turns his life upside down. After finding a boat on fire, he discovers a dead body and a visibly shaken woman in need of rescue. Now he finds himself entangled in a murder mystery between two teams of treasure hunters out for the discovery of a lifetime . . . and he’s falling for the main suspect.
Darcy Delmar survived an explosion on her boat while racing to be the first to find a sunken treasure she believes to be worth more than most people can possibly imagine. Now she is the lead suspect in the murder of a fellow treasure hunter. Or is she simply the next victim?
As Wade and Darcy lose themselves to the passion of the hunt and a new love, one thing becomes clear: this is a treasure worth killing for.

The mysteries in both books kept me reading. The instant love was too instant in both books. Both books got so mushy and unreal that some pages were skipped. Both books talked about the Faulkner family and neither Heroine had families. It just seems so odd that only the mental so many relatives.

Beautifully written, wonderful characters, hot romance, weaved into an adventure tale!
Shadows Landing is a box set containing books one and two of Kathleen Brooks series. The series features a small harbor town near Charleston. Kathleen Brooks has created some wonderfully quirky Southern characters for her series. For instance, in book one, Saving Shadows is the story of a small-town doctor who rescues a beautiful art gallery manager from drowning in the ocean in the middle of a hurricane! Their love story is off to a rocky start as it is, but their getting acquainted time is interupted by i an emergency involving a runaway gator and the local gator wrestler, named ,of course, Gator, and surgery to remove a snapping turtle from a very sensitive part of a man named Turtle's anatomy! Not to mention the police barging in to charge one of them with murder! Throw in some wild matchmaking octogenarians (are they really talking about apple pie?), the local plantation owners who named their children after guns, and not to be outdone, two old restaurant owners who settle their BBQ wars every Sunday at church during communion, Kathleen Brooks' Shadow Landing is as much fun as Jana Deleon's Mudbug and Sinful, Louisiana! I have never had so much fun reading a romance in a long time.
The world of Shadow Landing is as quirky as its residents! Kathleen Brooks wordcraft brings Shadow Landing to life. Like a painting by the Masters, you can picture Shadow Landing and its rich history, including pirates, ghost tours, and weapons hidden in the Church sanctuary!
Shadow Landing is my kind of place! There is history, romance, and even adventure! I couldn't put these books down! Housework can wait! But Shadow Landing can't wait! I can hardly wait to pick up the rest of the series! I never want to leave this delightful area of South Carolina!
This is a 2 in 1 that is also the first 2 books in what I’ve discovered is a 10 book with an off shoot of 6 books (so far) series.
Book 1 Is my fav. It has everything: romance, suspense, danger, funny moments and larger than print characters. I loved how Gavin and Ell each had things to overcome before their happily ever after and that while there was insta attraction, it wasn’t insta love. And I laughed to tears at the church scenes and Sunday rituals. This captures a small southern town soooooo well. Bubba is epic, as well and each supporting member is a delight. Well well done and highly recommended.
Book 2 All the same as book 1, except this is definitely insta love. But it works for this couple, and the story flows so well, I got over my pet peeve. And who can resist a mani uniform? The treasure hunt and clues, not to mention the supporting town is utterly enchanting and so hard to put down. And Bubba is back! Good Bubba, good. Darcy is, btw, my soul sister for no filter and babbling when nervous. Also recommended and well done. Loving this town and the cousins.
I wish I had mega money to buy all the rest of the books, so I will be treating myself to a new one as I can. And asking for these as presents!
This review is for Book 1, Saving Shadows: Insta-lust when kind, handsome doctor rescues beautiful damsel in distress who has amnesia. I always wonder about relationships built on this sandy foundation. What happens when Damsel regains her memory, reassumes her Strong Capable Woman persona, and no longer requires recuing?
No matter. Besides the wobbly premise, this book suffered most from lack of editing. Example:
And this: , as well as a scattering of wrong-word usages. Each time I was pulled out of the story by things like this, I found it harder to dive back in.
Based on this experience, I didn't read the second book in this two-book set.
I enjoyed this fast paced romantic suspense. It kept me turning pages, I enjoyed watching the relationship develop (albeit very quickly) between Wade and Darcy, and the quirkiness of the small town, while at first seems unrealistic, is growing on me on this return visit. I’m ready for book 3.
I can’t believe I haven’t read this series until now. The first two books are great and I’ve proceeded to buy the rest of the series available to date. It’s binge worthy with characters that make you laugh and fall in love with them. Fun storylines in a town full of surprises. Cannot wait to dive into the rest of the stories.
I know while reading the first book about Gavin and. ellery’s HEA- that I would love this series. It is wholesome, fun and enjoyable. Interesting and exciting. It really balances well the characters and the intrigue of the plot. The character from book to book really feel connected and genuine. Looking forward to the third book.
I enjoyed these 2 books so much ... loved the quirkiness of the citizens of Shadow Landing. The intrigue keeps you hooked from paragraph 1 until the very end interspersed with humor and romance. Can't wait to read book 3.
Didn't think I'd like Shadows Landing as much as I love the Keen wagon books, but I was wrong! Great storylines and wonderful characters make for sweet, Exciting reads! Loved them!
I'm from the South, and too many Southern sayings were overdone and used incorrectly. Also mixed Southern white and black stereotypes??? Not sure if trying to be humorous, but it became painful and I skimmed last half of first book, didn't read 2nd.
What an excellent find. The first two books in her spinoff of Keeneston KY series. I enjoyed the adventure and laughter in both of these books. I’m looking forward to reading the 3rd book in this series of Shadows Landing.
This book is a romantic suspense novel about Dr. Gavin Faulkner and Ellery St. John (book 1) & Wade Faulkner and Darcy Delmar (book 2) getting together with each other. This book is a great story. HEA
These are two "women in peril meet hot small town hotties" books and they're so generic I'm not sure if I've actually read one or both of them before and forgot about them or if it just felt like I did.
